Gabhricha Paus gets Arthouse release in the US
Anurag Kashyap | Exclusive, My Diary | August 22, 2009 at 2:53 pm
Gabhricha Paus(The Damned Rain) gets its US release at Facets in Chicago. First Marathi film to get a arthouse US release. Probably the first Indian film to be shown at Facets. I don’t know if they showed the The Terrorist there. Nevertheless a moment of pride for India and Indians and Desi’s. An achievement that i envy and i wish some day i will be able to make a film that shows at Facets.
Spread the word and make this a success.Following is the schedule.
US Premiere at Facets Cinematheque, Chicago

Jai Ho!!!
Yeah, it is coming back to LA! Was so sad I couldn’t see it when it played here last April…
Anurag, where did you get the rest of the schedule? I don’t see it on the website. Would love to see this movie!
Does anyone know if it is out on DVD or any screening happening around in Delhi. Badly, badly, very badly want to watch it and even may be write about it. Just saw the promo!Intriguing.
I doubt that they will release it with subtitles.
Neeraj,
before that i’d like u to watch shwas & tingya (both marathi), because going with the script, i dont think it has any element which is standing apart, movies with such plots are already released in india thats why the idea has not appealed me so much. may be the treatment will create some difference. and with all due respect to sudhir mishra & kashyap guy, i dont think whatever they like will always be outstanding.
great news…i absolutely loved the movie…it is the Best Movie for Indian cinema for me this year…may be it is my marathi bias but i loved it more than devd, gulaal or kaminey…
Ganapati Bappa Morya!!!
Hey Anurag, Thanks for posting this…this will help a long way in getting the audience to the theatres in the US.
@Neeraj, There is a show in Delhi on the 19th Sept at IIC at 10am. Also trying to release it in theatres in Delhi for a week or two atleast.
Thanks everyone for your wishes…and hoping to revive it in Maharashtra as well, after the swine flu thing calms down
The US schedule will be fine tuned and posted here for the venues and times as it becomes more clear.

I am definitely watching it! If it moves me I am reviewing it as well!
Prashant,
I’ve only seen the trailer so far, and can’t wait to view the film. Am working for a non-profit here in the U.S., and one of issues we’re advocating for is greater awareness about the plight of farmers around the world, esp. in Asia.
Basically, it would be brilliant if we could show Gabhricha Paus at universities here in the U.S. I firmly believe it will lead to (at least) some good things. We have an existing network of unis and non-profits who work with us, who will help with this.
Sending you an email with more details, just thought I’d try and communicate with you here as well.
All the very best to you and the people associated with this film.
Priyanka.
@PFC wala…Do ckeck out our website..the rest of the schedule in US is there and will be updated regularly for times and venues
Thanks, Prashant. I wanted to meet you at the CALAA screening in bay area, unfortunately had a conflict. Anyway, won’t miss it this time!
Wow! This is nice. Would try to go to Chicago and catch this one.
great, let me know … it would be good to meet a PFC person …
Are you from Chicago or some place nearby? I study at Champaign, so will come from there. I would let you know for sure!
workin in chicago.. lets meet up… ll be fun for both of us as movie fans to maybe see the original feel that we have as soon as we are done watching the movie, before our thoughts happen and we create a review for the movie…
I’m also from Chicago…planning to go see this on Saturday…I hope there’s more people in the audience than us!
awesome… lets all gang up … you never know how many people may turn up for the show after ours if they at least get to see that there are takers for this movie… we cant pull them in, but we can definately grab some of their attention towards this one …
@ Negi…It is of course with english subtitles…
Thanks Prashant for coming personally and clearing all doubts. I will be definately atching it at IIC at Delhi. Thanks.
Saw the film at Plaza, Dadar…liked it!
Anurag…no matter how much i hate ur love for complexity = confusion…i cant deny ur honesty and innocence…
@ Prashant : I watched it at IFFLA this year and must thank u 4 backing such project…Is the music available online to buy?…
FACETS !!!
This is simply great man, MY DREAM !!!

I love the way you are using this blog as a medium of lobbying sir.
Yes, this is playing in my city!
more and more marathi directors should be given a chance to make movies like these. so this is a simple request to all producers to finance for movies like gabricha paus.
anurag ,
why don t you shock me by sending a hi to my e mail id

Hi Anurag Sir,
I’m a big fan of yours and your cinema. I have been following this blog for quite some time. I have a question for you….Is there any possibility of you working with Ajay Devgan in near future and would you like to work with him? He is my fav. actor. and i would also like to know what do you think about him as an actor?
http://www.mid-day.com/entertainment/2009/aug/310809-Bollywood-Anurag-Kashyap-Danny-Boyle-Slumdog-Dev-D-Bombay-Velvet.htm
True?!?!?!
Anurag, or any of the other PFC authors, I just read that Aamir Khan and Anurag are getting together on Bombay Velvet. How true is this?
Mid-day as a source is not dependable , but I would love for this to happen…… any one???????
I read Katrina’s name somewhere with John on Anurag Kashyap film.
What is the world coming to! “I wanna chiggy wiggy with you boy”
superhit song.
Oh absolutely, Akki steals the show.
@Prashant : Any plan to release this in Bangalore?
Link to the short video of the Venice Film Festival opening. Sorry, it’s in Italian. Anyway, the Italian actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta introduces the members of the jury. Please, enjoy an ‘EMOZIONATISSIMO’ Kashyap!!!!!

Not a single vote on imdb page? what are we doing guys?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1483762/?c=1
Vote now!!!!
Anurag sir… just read somewhere that Bombay Velvet is going to have Aamir, possibly SRK, Danny Boyle backing it… 3 parts… sirjee it all sounds kickass big time… lekin somewhere a fan of all 3 folks hopes this doesn’t happen… because all 3 of you guys have a different treatment and temperment of doing things, and its excellant to see any of the 3 of you … hopefully it will be a great great blend, but again skeptical kahin kisi ke treatment mei compromise na ho jaaye… however… all the best if the news is true… hoping for the best… and hopefully all will be under check …
Can someone tell me the details about the bay area screening?
Anurag mentioned 25th Sep in San Jose.
Even I am trying to find the details about Bay area screening…..It will be awesome if someone can pass on the relevent information
@Pranav and @Sahil,
There was a postponment of the San Hose schedule. We will now open in LA on 9th October and in San Hose on the 15th October. There is also a screening in Seattle at the Tasveer independent film festival, hence the change in schedule due to shuffling of the print. I will post the times and venues here in the coming week.
