GUT Feeling about Laga Chunari Mein Daag
GUT Feeling about Laga Chunari Mein Daag -
WARNING - THIS IS A COMPLETELY PERSONAL POST AND DOES NOT REPRESENT PFC OR ANY OTHER AUTHOR !!! ALSO THIS IS NOT A MOVIE REVIEW .. BUT A GUT FEELING POST
A Friend of mine saw the preview of the film and this is what he said
“is aweful n very regressive”
“its fuckall n exactly like that mumtaz film aaina”
For thos who were not born before 1977, here’s an imdb on Aaina
Thanks to the anonymous commentor on imdb here’s what someone has to say about Aaina
“Mumtaz is the eldest of 8 children and her father AK Hangal is without a job. They are beset by extreme poverty( one would not say so looking at a juicy healthy beauty Mumtaz) and one day Mumtaz discovers her mother mixing poison for the chidren as they had nothing to feed them. Mumtaz decides to take responsibility and go for a job. Even while going for a job mumtaz does not have a decent dress to wear and is forced to wear torn clothes at work much to the pleasure of her lecherous colleagues who look hungrily at her bare flesh. Bowing to pressure from family to get her brother admission to a medical college she runs from pillar to post trying for this until she comes across a lusty doctor who lures her to his clinic and proceeds to help her secure admission and then blackmails her on this pretext to submit to his carnal desires. After being raped by the doctor Mumtaz is stunned when she hears that he is a fraud. Her brother then succeeds in getting admission and the requirement of money forces her to approach her manager. The manager too was hungry for her flesh and invites her to his house to collect the salary advance. At the place the lusty manager threatens to throw her out of the job if she doesnt give up to him. Mumtaz desperate for the money is forced to disrobe in front of the manager who feasts upon her body with uninhibited pleasure. Torn by the regular demands of money from her family Mumtaz is forced to become a prostitute selling her gorgeous body to whoever has money. This way life goes on until her parents start to suspect and her sisters fiance turns out to be one of the customers who had enjoyed her flesh for a fee. She is shunned by her family who give no consideration to the fact that she had done it all for them. They disown her and she ultimately has no one and finds solace in the arms of her long time lover Rajesh Khanna who accepts her knowing her past. Mumtaz’s acting is good but is overshadowed as usual by her sexuality which is irresistible. Mumtaz looks delicious and one is forced to empathise with the villains who desire her and get her ,for she is really one sexy item. just sensational. Men may watch the movie only at the risk of spending a sleepless night sighing that they do not have her for company Enjoy”
AHEM AHEM …
Having said that … Here’s what my GUT Feeling of Laaga Chunri Mein Daag would be like ….
(By the way ..i would happily take my words back and apologise if im proved wrong)
Seems like message oriented - i can totally imagine the lines “kaun randi hai jo ayyashi key liye bazaar main utarti hai ??” (is there any whore who gets down in market for money?)
or something like Anupam kher crying - “Tumney humare khaandan ki naak kaat di” (You cut our family nose)
shit .. anupam kher disowns her (Rani)
Jaya sympathises but says “Main apney Pati key khilaaf nahi ja sakti” (I cant go against my husband)….
Konkona (the only good thing in the movie) might cry and say “Didi …. chahe kuch bhi ho jaye …. tumney apne daaman/chunri sey mere aanso ponch diya hain” (U wiped my tears with ur clothes)
Abhishek might say “Tu kya hua agar tum ek bazaro aurat ho …. Aurat toh aurat hi hoti hai …” (so what if ur a marketplace woman …once a Woman always a Woman)
Kunal Kapoor will say “Main aisi filmein kyun karta hoon ??” (Why do i act in such films ??)
Some lusty guys will say “Rate kya hai tera ..” (Whats ur market price ??)
A rapist will say “Tu itni khoobsurat hai .. tujhey bhagwaan key liye kaise chod doon …” (ur so HOT .. how can i leave u for GOD ???)
Rani will say “Yeh samaaj mein ma, behen, beti, saheli ki izzat hai… par aurat ki nahi” (This society ….. respects all women but doesnt respect any woman)
Pradeep Sarkar will not say “CUT” when Rani is crying ….
All the family audience will say “Ek ticket aur do” (Give us one more ticket)
National Award Committee will say “Move over Tabu in Chandni Bar.. the next national award goes to Rani mukherjee”)
Yashraj will say YES to 10 more such regressive films ….
Again - i reiterate.. this is just a GUT Feeling … not a review … I will go and watch the film for sadistic pleasure anyway …

KK…spot on!! ha ha ha ha. cant agree more!!! btw, correct urself…the name of the film is Laga Chunari Me Daag - Journey Of A Woman…hufff!! will the yrf guys sing now…laga chunari me daag, mitaaon kaise, logon ko film dikhaoon kaise??!!:d
but on a serious note, want to watch d film n only because of pradeep sarkar.parineeta was damn good except that tod beta tod sequence.
THAT EXACTLY IS MY QUESTION PHONIX .. A normal guy in his senses would not attempt such a story …. why would Pradip Sarkar with his eye for beautful cinematography ??? Was he forced into this ???? Was he held at gunpoint ?? Was there no money left to burn the kitchen fire ???
Was there a contract signed ??
Is it LCMD a journey of a woman or is it LCMD - a journey of a DIRECTOR ????
Why ?? WHY ?? WHY ??? WHY ???
Yeh bataoon kaisey ??? moonh chupaon kaisey ???
n somewhere in bewteen Rani will come n say that now so famous dialogue n my fav one these days…Hi.I am Natasha!!
its strange but cud not control myself…in johnny gaddar promo the line that i love is kya naam hai tera ? kya naam hai. And then Laga will come…Hi.I am Natasha!!:d
PHONIX - ROFL !!!! =))
Wonder if Konkona will do an encore Omkara …
“Mard key dil ka raasta uskey pet sey nahi … thoda neechey sey phoottha hai”
And then Rani will say…haan chutki. tune sahi bola. pet ke thoda neeche hi gayee,to haramkhoroon ki bhari bhari si jeb bhi mili!!
hahaha.. 2 harami ek jaisa sochte hain.. angrezi me bolun to “great minds think alike”.
Waise I share the same opinion.
hey, what abt Abhishek being heartbroken by his Paro after the dialogue “Itni dosti nahi hai” (shown in trailers) and start looking for his Chandramukhi and ends up being a customer of same Paro. (hey, she is Natasha in this case)
Abhishek : Itni dosti nahi ki bata sakon ?
Rani : Nahi, itne bhi dosti nahi ki bata sakoon. Itne paise hai kya, to bus kapde utar doon.
(background music…hum to aise hain bhaiyya…)
@ fanatic: amazing line…LOL
KK, i guess you have hit the bullseye…the movie seems regressive…I also feel that this will be another flop in rani’s reportoire…Perhaps this is what you call a role created and aimed at the awards…especially helps when Adi Chopra has the purse strings and rani has adi around her fingers….adi might still fund her next film…god knows…
I also dont think that family audiences will buy a first ticket ( forget the second one) for this film..they would rather see akshay doing comedy in bhool bhualiyya…
Kartik what a regressive story here, maybe Yash Raj & Co should watch Aakhir Kyon, a movie starring Smita Patil and Rajesh Khanna made way back in the 80’s, yeah the same 80’s which is taken as a benchmark for crappy movie, the same 80’s to which we snobbishly assign a tag by describing a crap movie as “It belongs to 80’s”.
Smita Patil is abandoned by her husband Rakesh Roshan, who is taken over by her sister Tina Munim’s manipulations. Alone in the world, she faces humiliation and even has men trying to make passes at her, but she stands up resolutely, and slowly manages to establish herself.
She finds a friend and confidante in Rajesh Khanna, but mind you, both of them remain friends till the end of the movie. No forced love story there at all. Now the producer-director of this movie J.Om Prakash is certainly no Guru Dutt, nor is this movie an art house classic, it is as commercial as it gets. When a J.Om Prakash could come up with a totally sensible story in a totally commercial set up, and that too in a period which is said to be the worst period in terms of quality, what the hell prevents Yash Raj & Co,from comming up with a sensible story.
Suparn, now what are u going to say, that we should still sing praises of Yash Raj, inspite of the fact that they keep thrusting these kind of stories down our throats.
I mean is there no other avenue other than being a hooker for a 10th class passed out girl from a small town. Have not these people heard of something called the garment export industry, where many girls who are like Rani’s character in this movie, work. And yes that is quite an exploitative industry in another way, but thats another matter. I guess it would not be as attractive as showing the heroine becomming a hooker.
In today’s India there are many avenues for women to work, and not just those who are convent educated. I have known personally many such girls working as receptionists or office assistants or some other job, to support their families. Cant Yash Raj& Co for a change look at the real world, and think beyond hookers?
Or are they too lazy to even do that?
Also Kartik many have a tendency to diss movies of the 70’s and 80’s. Yeah technically they may suck, but storywise many of those movies, can beat the current crop of movies hollow.
I have a question, forget about a Bhumika or a Subah or Ankur, can these guys come up with an Aakhir Kyon? at least.
Or do they want us audience to keep asking “Aakhir Kyon?” after watching their classics.
Laga Chunari Se Bhaag!!!!…ok, not me this time. but its raja rediff sen. here’s d link…

@Phoneix: When Taran Adarsh slams a Yash Raj movie, you can be sure of doing a Bhagam Bhag.
well… i have decided given a choice i would not go far YRF movies, on the day of release… have taken this decision after watching some great YRF classics “ta ra rum pum”, “jhoom barabar jhoom”, “neal n nikky”, to name a few.
can’t think of a good film from YRF in recent times excet “chak de”,
@Ratnakar: No offense but the Trash-an Adrash point is not always true. Remeber Chak De India? It got 2/5. LCMD got 1.5/5.
The only relief for YRF is that it’s not entirely a Yash Raj film. It’s produced by YRF and Pradeep Sarkar. So the spat for them goes in a 50:50 ratio. :)):)):))
I saw PS saying that the story was conceptualised around “11-13″ years back! ?!
BTW, I’ll watch AAJA NACHLE for sure. For two reasons: Madhuri and Jaideep Sahni.
Taran adarsh has actually written a “readable” review of a movie. Thats reason enough to celebrate.
Now this has to be interesting .. the director of that masterpiece ‘Sarfarosh’ is working with Himesh in his next.

Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai
Mujhse Dosti Karoge!
Neal ‘N’ Nikki
Kabul Express
Ta Ra Rum Pum
Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
Laaga Chunari Mein Daag
Dil To Pagal Hai
Hum Tum
Dhoom
Dhoom2
Veer-Zaara
Bunty Aur Babli
Salaam Namaste
Fanaa
Chak De! India
7 flops and 9 hits…Not a bad track record for YRF…But tell me…Out of all the movies, which was atleast a good movie except Dil Toh Pagal Hain and Chak De (I still have my reservations about Chak De though…)
Well macchar,Hum Tum,Salaam Namaste,Bunty aur Babli and Dhoom were not bad. While they can’t exactly be classified as ground breaking cinema, they were pretty watchable. The rest, yeah.Intolerable to say the least (though Veer Zaara was good in parts).
really pathetic film which preaches parents to accept and support your daughter if she opts a career in prostitution during financial crises. it preaches girls to go for this comfortable career instead of learning some other skills.
though beautifully shot film.
Vikram: Hum Tum was OK. Salaam Namaste was boring. Bunty aur Babli was idiotic. Don’t classify them as movies, in fact they should be categorized as gimmick movies.
Coming to Dhoom, it was a poor and stupid copy of the French movie Taxi! Watch the original and you will see what real thrill is!
YRF is very clear. They want to make money. They have the formula to attract the middle class family in Bannerghatta in Bangalore, in Musheerabad of Hyderabad, in Borivali of Mumbai, in Vikas Puri of Delhi, in Indira Nagar of Lucknow etc…
Multiplex collections taken for granted, they know that their movies cater to B & C audience too, who just want a three hour mega star filled roller coaster ride…
Do a case study…Run Tara rum pum and Manorama in adjacent theatres in Hyderabad NOW for a week. Tara rumpum, one of the worse movies from the YRF stable will have better collections than the other movie.
Do you remember the bully in your school? He used to have people under control, girls vying for his attention and YOU, the nice guy, used to be shown the middle finger in everything, just like the wonder years…
So, YRF the bully will have super stars under their control, have better collections, have greater visibility than the guys coming out with better cinema.
Well macchar,i have to agree with u on the manorama/ta ra rum pum question.I had to bunk college to watch manorama coz those %%$%#$#$@# at adlabs cancelled the prime time 4:30 show of Manorama and substituted Hey Baby in its place X-(
And yeah,I’ve seen the french version of Taxi. But actually dhoom was a copy of this Keanu Reeves/Patrick Swayze starrer called Point Break
@Vikram
Dhoom is supposed to be based on fast and furious, now im confused here
Yaar Ratnakar, the chase scenes were inspired from Torque, fast’n'furious and taxi. The part where Uday Chopra goes undercover and mixes in with the gang is from Point Break. The relationship between Abhishek and John is right out of Heat.I can’t remember the rest
BTW ratnakar, just went thru your blog.Loved it
Yaar yeh to mother of all remakes lagta hai, reminds me of a Telugu movie called Bobilli Raja.
The first half was copied from Romancing the Stone and The Gods Must be Crazy, in the middle we had a scene lifted from Jewel of the Nile
And the climax scenes were lifted from Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade.
And yes there was this Telugu movie called Nirnayam by Priyadarshan, the plot was lifted from Stakeout, and the climax was a total lift from 9 minute warning, and the final scene, where the hero meets the heroine was ripped off from Crocodile Dundee.
=))
Sounds like a movie that should be watched with a large pizza and bottle of coke.Who’s in the movie :))
Oh,both are Nagarjuna movies.Not bad.
Nah Vikram Bobilli Raja was Venkatesh movie, and also Divya Bharati’s first movie, i wan in college then and all of us guys had a big time crush on Ms. Bharati, she was just too hot n sexy, and that too in the first half of the movie she appears only in a shirt, and nothing else.
Yeah, she was better in Telugu movies because i remember,in all the hindi movies that i’ve seen of her,she had like a ton of makeup splattered on her face which really didn’t suit her.Pity we lost her so early though
Well, The French Taxi comes closer to Dhoom. Taxi had a bumbling cop and a Taxi driver. Dhoom had a oversmart cop(Afterall bachchan) and a bumbling Biker.
In Taxi, the taxi driver is forced to cooperate with the cop or have his license revoked.
In Dhoom, The biker is forced to help the cop or have him arrested for selling stolen bikes.
In Taxi, the Mercedes gang steals all the banks but escapes. No one knows where they vanish.
In Dhoom, the bike gang steals from the banks and vanish. No one knows where they disappear.
In Taxi, the Mercedes cars get into a moving truck and get a paint job.
In Dhoom, the bikes also get into huge trucks and escape in them.
In Taxi, the taxi driver is a friend of the cop’s mother…
In Dhoom, the biker is a friend of the cop’s wife.
In Taxi, the Taxi driver has a girl friend but the cop desperately needs a girl and constantly tries to woo his colleague.
In Dhoom, the cop has a wife but the biker desperately dreams about a girl and chases Esha.
All they did was reverse a few roles and add our Indian MTR Masala into the movie.
So, who disagrees now that Dhoom is not French Taxi?
Thanx for that biting humour KK,
It is astonishing to say the least that in this day this age we think a literate girl [ 10th pass was it? even if not-first-class-first ] has no options in terms of employment in a city like Mumbai.
She can teach can’t she? One profession we conveniently forget, because it does not give us an excuse to rape or molest the pretty heroine? How else to provide entertainement but through schadenfreude.
She can cook, clean, iron, sew, wash, sweep if no white collar ‘job’ is being offered to a gaon-ki-ladki [ though Benares is not a gaon in any sense ] can’t she?
She could steal or beg too you know, or kill.
And frankly if she has to be a prostitute I’d rather that she was enjoying her sexuality and not having to hide behind tears, guilt and moral nonsense. [ Oh! but if she actually LIKES SEX how can Abhishek marry her, tauba tauba ]
This division of ‘Good’ vs ‘Bad’ women is getting very irksome as the years go by.What kind of example does one set to the young women of India? esp in the rural areas, where there are no strong role models apart from , maybe, their mothers/grandmothers??
I also blame the heroines for continuing to perpetuate such stereotypes by accepting to be a part of such senseless ventures.
A wonderful book on Psychology called ” Goddesses in Every Woman ” talks of the various facets of a woman , she could be an Artemis, an Aphrodite a Hera all at the same time, which would mean , she can be Virginal AND very Amorous at the SAME TIME.
I feel like mailing a bunch of books on Women and Sexuality to all the biggies in Bollywood!
Machchar….
Dil to pagal hai was a good movie for u???!!!!:o
“The season of biggies has commenced! BHOOL BHULAIYAA, which teams Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar for the fourth time, opened to a fantastic 90% + response across the nation. The tremendous publicity campaign undertaken by its producers, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, has yielded rich dividends.
Meanwhile, Yash Raj
DPac, Dhak Dhak Madhuri! I loved the movie. Maybe I am too obsessed with Madhuri that I love all her movies unconditionally! But seriously…I felt the Yash Chopra feel in that movie which is not being seen in any recent movies now. That pure love…that heart break…vintage shahrukh…
Madhuri is my angel! She is my heart beat! She is my everything!
promotion of OM SHANTI OM:
During the last one month, promotion of OSO has been going on in various channels. Being an SRK/Farha movie, it is natural for the cine goers to be inquisitive about the movie.
One word of caution to SRK/Farha “Keep the suspense element alive for the cine goers, too much of promotion and the audieances expectations are high and they feel let down”.
It has happened in the past.
P.S.: Also look out for the fourth generation Kapoor boy who’s sneeking from the corner.
Guys could not help laughing mann…after reading the responses…=))=))=))
Saw the movie what utter rubbish, the thread of the story was a tangled mess…. the evening and the money spent was truly wasted…..Dont waste your time with this one
Machchar
The only film from your list that i loved most was BUNTY AUR BUBLY.
Hum Tum was ok. Saif was good in it.
*******
I just read Pradeep Da’s interview on rediff. Its as regressive as his film.
http://ia.rediff.com/movies/2007/oct/12pradeep.htm
——-
Q:If Aditya was nursing the idea for 11 years, why didn’t he direct it himself?
PS:I don’t know. But when he told me the story, I started crying. I guess that’s what made him think I could do justice to the story.
——–
Q: Was Chopra upset with you for leaving him?
PS: Yes, initially, he was. But recently I heard that he liked the promos of my film. So I messaged him for his blessings and he said my blessing are always with you. He loves me too much to hate me.
——–
How ridicilous will things get? I mean PS started crying ?
Come ON!!!!!
Funny:) But I suspect it’ll be much worse. LCMD could very easily stand for Least Common Multiple Drama. Maybe Ram Gopal Varma will do a redux version titled ‘Laaga Chunri Mein Dog’ about urban street menaces!
Just saw in Mumbai Mirror that more than 60% readers have given both LCMD and Bhool Bhulaiya a
Dont go by that poll
Its always stupid actually. i have even seen them manipulating the results by playing with colors on the pie chart
Also please check if the movie is promoted by INDIATIMES..iam not sure on that
I have seem them passing adverisements as news..Only to find out later that the TIMESGROUP had something or the other to do with that movie.
Also they dont talk abt the number of ppl who participated.. could be 10 in total LOLzz
Talkin abt movies, i have been some hatke movie lovers praising some ridiculous movies as great movies.. i really dont know what u guys felt was wrong with Kabul Express.. you dont think it was a decent movie?? OK i wont watch it multiple time but in my opinion, It was definitely better than DIL TO PAGAL HAI
Hey i saw laga…i didnt find it that bad .May be i didnt had any expectation from the film wat so ever and i hadn’t also seen aaina.I want to throw light on the fact that the means rani adopted in the film is a bitter reality of our society which is still prevailant. Moreover the lecherous guys rani or mumtaz had to encounter on their way to earn a meaningful living is also a harsh reality. The best example being the bombay film industry. All said and done laga is not great cinema but may be a sort of an eye opener of a few realities that still exists in our society today…
this was hilarious. do some more.
