Happy Birthday, Guru!
Tushar | Movies, People | January 6, 2007 at 8:00 am
(This post was written one year ago on the same day, for its the birthday of The Boss, AR RAHMAN. It is only apt that the Boss is now changed to Guru)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOSS
A lone boat on the sun kissed waters, makes the ripples ripple a ripple more. When all of life’s oh-no’s, why’s, some-other-day’s come to a halt and celebrate life.
A smile that refuses to leave the aching face, makes you wonder whether it is worth caring and thinking all that and all those we think and ponder about all the time. For no one goes home with you except the reason you smiled today. Water that flows without the fear of losing ground, like it will always keep falling like the way it does, it will not tear the heart of the earth or spoil the clothes. Water in which I saw all the colors of life, untainted by anything that could taint water- its music, its melody and its integrity and purity. I want to get up and jump like no one is looking, keep making circles on the sand with my index finger till the wave washes it away, the circles keep getting deeper without the fear of an impending loss of identity, may be identity for them meant blending in a bigger, more real reality…
There is more than images and visual imagination that Rahman’s music generates, it is a world indescribable in words, something that can be felt like having a chocolate ice-cream or the first kiss. I have followed his music since I was 13, and it has been a constant presence in my life ever since. All these years, Rahman music movies and songs have been knitted in my memories of school days, friends, girls, movies and my frequent relocations.
Every song every note is etched like a brass impression, bringing back times in their exact color and sound. When I hear a Rangeela, I remember the day I bought the tape from hard-saved money, got it home, played it aloud on my 32 watts Philips tape, drew the curtains and started dancing like crazy. People said it was different but I got what I had ordered, every month I used to wait for the next Rahman release, drove all the music shops in town crazy by calling them umpteen times. The movies have changed, people have changed, the scene is different but my association with his music remains the same, innocent and independent of what the world thinks or says.
I still run to grab that first copy of his tapes in town, still cant do anything before I listen to the tape at least two or three times, and pass my pre-decided verdict that it is vintage Rahman, period.
May he live on and on and keep creating the magic over and over, so that one day when I am 98, I will tell ultracool kids of the future, “this tape of Bombay that you see, is the first tape that I bought way back in the summer of 1994, it cost Rs 28 then, and it meant Magic for me then, it means Magic for me now.”

A great birthday tribute!
Happy Birthday Rahman Saab!
thanks Sangeeta. I wanted to write something new but when I read this one, I felt like goin with the same.
PRAY FOR ME BROTHER is available on the Rahmaniacs link, it has a live perf by ARR on new year eve in Mumbai.
I was just watching that Tushar see url below
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjk7A6aOs7Q
yup, thats the one!
I heard the song the first time at a Rahman concert here in Blore last october. and i loved how Rahman streamlined the audience frenzy and euphoria by playing such a thoughtful n poignant number. any other performer would cash in on the wave and play something fast beat. he broke all the conventions which said the theme song of a film needs to be ‘zhataang’. points in case-zubeida, swades, taal, alaipayuthe, kandukondain kandukondain, iruvar…
wow! that was a some performance. thanks for the link, san. that got me all charged up now. nice for a saturday. :-D
Happy Birthday Mr Rahman!!
Incase ur reading this, Im still waiting for your phone call!!
Yes ppl, I was extremley fortunate to have met Mr Rahman a couple of years ago in B’ham… was a wonderful night.
It was a real mission trying to get to meet him, what with security and what not, and i lied and pulled all the tricks i could to see him.
I failed miserably!!
Then i spoke the truth and got to see him!!
Who says ‘bhalaee ka zamana nahin hai’?!!
Anyway, Rahman took my number but ‘forgot’ to call me… hmm, i’ll let you off as your music is pure magic..\:d/\:d/
thanks a lot for the link sangeetha
@ Steve, I was waiting for your comment dude:), considering the good insights you shared on Rahman in some earlier posts.
Every year AAR haunts me…..last year it was with Lukka Chuppi in RDB…..now 2007 I’ll be haunted all year long with
Every year ARR haunts me…..last year it was with Lukka Chuppi in RDB…..now 2007 I’ll be haunted all year long with
As much as I love A R Rahman but that English song….. NAH! i know it was for a good purpose, but still… nah.
Anyway, this year should be a treat for A R Rahman fans, as two of his soundtracks: “Jodha-Akbar” and “Lajjo” will release in upcoming months.
i am more looking forward to “Lajjo” soundtrack because it will be a combo of A R Rahman – Mani Ratnam – Aamir Khan – Gulzarsaab. Plus it is supposed to be a comedy film. So not sure of what kind of soundtrack it will be, hopefully, vintage A R Rahman.
Last year RDB was one album whose all tracks rocked!! Loved every bit of it.But dont know why….didnt like Guru’s music except for one song…raat abhi baki hai.
Nice write up, Tushar.
On! And belated happy birthday to AR Rahman! @};-
I am glad he’s got three of his songs for the Oscars this year. And my favourite Khalbali being one of them! \:d/
Steve! You got to see him?! :o Tell us more, please! :d
@phoenixnu: But didn’t you like Hairathe, Jaage and Tere Bina from Guru ??????!!!!!!
Thanks Tushar.. great to know my post was awaited…makes me feel special, lol
And yes Monica, its true!!
Its a bit of a story actually… will Oz let me leave the whole episode or will I Have to edit it?!;)
I’ll give you guys the short version… tommorow!
Steve did you meet him when he was down at Sym hall a few years back?
Sangeeta!! OMG!!
Were you there??
Does that mean you saw me make a total ass of myself there??:”>;))
Yes it was…. were you there too??
Steve!!! What did you do?!
Why the short version and why tomorrow??? :-w
Arre Monica, accha baba, will give you the ‘full’ version…Khush?;)
And ‘tommorow’ as Im using my sisters computer and she already feels that I only come to see her to leave posts on PFC and watch Shilpa Shetty on ‘Big BRother’!!
And…er…she’s right!!=))=))
Is-liye hum kal baath karenge!!:))
Steve, my parents attended :”>
@Ranjit, I liked only jaage. The way hairathe and tere bina starts, thought would be nice. But somehow didnt like the full song. So, havent bought the CD also. I generally dont buy new albums unless nad until they have atleast counted few good songs. Not going to spend money just for one song….jaage. Tere bina…somhow has very gujju feel to it,(sorry all u gujju guys)the way it has been sung. But didnt click for me.
Steve, that full version is taking you a long time! :d
Ok Monica!! Here it is….
Rahman was to perform for two nights at Birmingham Symphony Hall back in March 2004, in a night of ‘Classical Bollywood’ scores which would’ve been a first for the shy composer in England.
Quite naturally i was ecstatic and was most definitely going to be there to see my idol of 11 years.
My heart was racing like crazy, and the feeling beat any fear/excitement I may have experienced throughout the whole of my insignificant life!
What the hell, it almost beat the feeling of being in love…. anyway!!
I was secretly hoping that out of the crowd of 2200 people, Rahman would notice me and say, ”Hey you… yes you with the dodgy hair and rucksack..(my trademark) come up here and sing a duet with me!!”
(Oh c’mon, im allowed to dream aren’t I?!)
But alas, no such thing happened!
Anyways, the everlasting wait was over as Rahman finally came onto the stage and…WOW!!
My heart was almost gonna explode in my chest!
I cant explain how it felt!!
Pure magic!!
Actually, i couldnt even focus on his performance as the excitement of seeing him live was too overpowering!
This was the guy who’s music kept me going through the worst and best phases of my life… a big part of my whole being!
The one who, although had never met me, had touched me deeply…. there for me when everyone else had let me down…..
Anyway! (sorry, i still cant get over meeting him) the night progressed with some foreign Chinese music and background pieces of ‘Meenaxi’ i believe… there were no ‘Bollywood Classics’ as promised, not that Im complaining…
After almost an hour or so of his performance, the host (this very annoying women who gave the impression that she’d rather hear her own voice over Rahmans!!) lets call her ‘haddi’ as in ‘kebaab mein haddi’, ran around with a mike giving the audience a chance to ask their fave composer a question.
Whilst she ran around and gave this Tushar Kapoor look-a-like all the time in the world to do his bak-bak, she totally blanked me and kept going in the opposite direction!
I eventually got sick and tired of Haddi, and started to literally chase her up and down the aisles at the venue which resulted in giggles from the audience, and a smile from Rahman too!!!
Man, he noticed me… ok, not in the way i had hoped, but he did nonetheless!
Eventually, after playing what seemed like a game of basketball, what with me trying to get the mike from Haddi, she finally got the ‘hint’ and gave me the mike…..only, er….. i didnt have a question!!
How stupid did i feel then eh?!!
Anyway, i just mumbled (with a dry mouth, heart running a marathon at this point) and asked why doesn’t he release a seperate album with all his films background scores on, as he has composed some wonderful BGM’s.
Rahman started to answer my question, but people… i have no idea what he said!
I was sooooo excited that i could see his lips moving, but just couldnt get a grip!!
I then thanked him for all the wonderful music he had composed….
Anyway, i went back to my seat and from that moment onwards, just didnt pay any attention to the show, as i was on a total high man!!
He then sang a piano version of ‘Dil se re…’ and oh my….. what amazing vocals.. what music…allah!!
Anyway… i then left after the show…..feeling amazing.
Yet something was amiss.
Maybe it was the fact that i had finally met him.
Well, not met but actually interacted with him.
I went home that night, and as expected, couldn’t sleep.
Couldn’t sleep knowing he was in the West Midlands and just 30minutes away from me… i so badly wanted to see him again.
And then i came up with an idea…
(Monica, the story doesn’t end there…. there is more. Will post tommorow!)
Wow, Steve!!! Thanks! I really enjoyed reading that!
Aren’t you funny?
)
Anyway, looking forward to reading the rest of it! ;)
(part2)
Seeing A.R.Rahman on a stage was not enough for me.
So i sat up all night thinking of ways to meet him.
Afterall, this was probably going to be my one and only chance to meet him, as I have no plans of going to Madras or is it Canada?? Or Austrailia! (can’t keep up with this man!)
I then decided I would pose as Rahmans cousin!
I called Symphony Hall up, explaining that I was a long distant relative who hadn’t met Rahman in a while and had lost his number etc…
They weren’t convinced, as 10 other people had tried that earlier!!
I then decided i would just pose as an amature journalist, who needs to interview a celeb like Rahman to impress my boss (yeah i know…. what the hell was i thinking!).
So i turned up with an old A4 sized note pad, trying to look all serious and proffesional.
Security just took one look at me and sniggered!
I then decided that I worked in Radio!
Luckily I ‘kind of’ convinced one of the security guards (I think he thought I fancied him, as I kept smiling at him and kept looking at him up and down, up and down… but that was beacuse i knew i was lying and i had to keep a straight face, only i couldn’t look him in the eye and lie!!
But i didnt wanna look away, as that would be blatant! So i chose to ‘eye’ him up… god, I know.. how pathetic was I!!)
A-n-y-w-a-y, he asked me to wait.
So I did.
Only I was told (about 2hours later) that Rahman might not have time for this ‘interview’!
Thankfully, i decided to use my time wisely, by writing Rahman a letter.
Afterall, there was not a great deal i could do.
But I was begining to get desperate now…(as if I hadnt been all evening!) as i was contemplating sneaking in through the stage door (which almost happened at one point, but i chickened out).
There was an Intermission, and the Orchestra were out during a break. I conversed with them.
Decided I had to calm down.
No more flirting with security, no more lies.
I began to ask the Orchestra how it felt working with rahman and would you believe, not even one bad word against him.
They were all praise for him…
I sadly passed on my regards to Rahman through the orchestra, and started to walk away…..
But then, i had an idea!! (Im just full of them aren’t I?)
I could pass on my letter to the orchestra!
I mean surely they could do that?? Im sure even security could pass it on??
I then ripped out the letter from my A4 pad, and went hunting for a photo copier.
Luckily I found one, and then made 20 copies of my letter, and then ‘distributed’ it to whoever I came in contact with!
I got some funny looks, but considering I had already made a fool of myself, thought this was worth a shot…
I have to admit, everyone seemed to be very helpful. The Orchestra in particular.
Well, then I went back to my seat….and waited.
Then, as the second half of the concert began, a certain film personality walked up to me!!
(There is more…wait for part3!)
Oh man steve you are a persistant dude.
Steve
I missed chance to meet rahman in person, He came to Eastern Michigan University last year and I was working in a resturant at that time(Part time to pay my school fees). Our resturant got a phone call from university organizers that rahman is gonna be here and we have to supply food and other stuff for the show, I was excited that rahman is gonna be here and I might have slightest of all chances to meet him.
So here is the deal rahman will meet our president and other bigheads at his house and will have snack and from there he will directly go to the auditorium and perform. I was told i will arrange everything at presidents house and take care of things. I was all over the moon, was so happy i couldnt believe that i will meet rahman.
On the day of show one of my owner told me that I’m not gonna go as i have stay at the restaurant and some owners realtive wants to meet rahman so he will take care of stuff at presidents house. I was so pissed, magar “paisa mein parmatma hai” I had to keep my job. some how I convinced another owner (good one) he gave me chance to arrange our stall at the auditorium before the show. so i went in with all stuff and as i about to start arranging my shit. I heard Rahman’s voice from some where.
He was trying to correct one of the singers, they were practising b4 the show, Here is the real fun i was so happy to see rahaman on stage i kept watching him for half hour then i realized i got to work.
I still fell dissapointed that i didnt get chance to meet him personally and take pic. but I’m happy as others dont even get a chance to see him working.
Steve,
)
You must be joking! 20 copies? Come on!
Sangeeta,
I think we will have to ask your parents about Steve… Did they notice any kind of strange behaviour amongst the fans? ;)
Varun,
You were lucky after all! I would have seen Mr Rahman giving a lecture during and Indian Film Festival last spring had it not been cancelled :(( I still haven’t recovered from that :((
Monica! Doubting me huh??
You have no idea how crazy i am!
By the way, I doubt Sangeeta’s parents would know, as they are not security!!
This was going on ‘outside’ the auditorium.
Chances are Sangeeta’s family were making the most of the rahman magic henna??
And, also…re Sangeeta’s family… did they attend both nights or just friday, as i went back both nights being the Obsessive-Psycho-Sicko-Stalker that i am!! Lol….
Monica, c’mon…a chance like that would probably never take place in my ‘bad luck’ life.. so for once i grabbed it… and i havent finished story yet!
Impatient girl!!
And Varun….awww maaaaan!!
Kya yaar… teri kismet bhi apun ki kismet ki tarah saree huwee hai!!
So close, yet so far…. well, next time you get a chance, TAKE IT!!
I mean it… look…things like that dont happen often… i hope you take advantage of that fact next time dude!!:)
Oh..and Sangeeta, I’m not really a persistant guy.. quite the opposite actually.
I mean this is all on the second day… i was relatively normal the first night.
But… i guess my passionforrahman.com took over! Ha!
Steve
)
You’re right, a chance like that might never take place again so that’s OK, you can be as crazy as you want ;)
Go on with the story. Am I really that impatient? :-”
Monz, I will continue and complete the story, just got a bit distracted by ‘GURU’ which released today (read the GURU review post) and now I have to see Shilpa rani at the Big Brother house.
Yes, i know… how sad!!
Should have the final part of my ‘lambeeeeeee kahani’ up here tommorow.
Oh, I can call you Monz cant i???:-?
Steve, yes, Guru
(part 3)
… I could hear the audience applauding Rahman whilst I sat in the lobby area.
It’d been around half an hour and I sat there and waited patiently, when suddenly a man walked by, heading towards the back stage door.
I looked up and to my surprise it was Shekar Kapur!!
I couldn’t believe my eyes!!
Talk about ‘Ek lo ek muft’!
He seemed to be in a rush to get inside before the concert ended, but I stopped him and asked ”You’re Shekar Kapur aren’t you?” (well, it was kinda obvious!)
He just smiled and began to run towards the back stage door.
I got the hint.
Left him alone.
But got hold of him some 40mins later, when all I managed to say was ”Can’t wait for ‘PAANI” (the big budget film of his which hasn’t still taken off!)
What i wanted to say was, ”Shekar! You do realise that ‘Bandit Queen’ disturbed me to the point where I almost switched the film off, and you shattered my belief that I could watch anything…”
Seriously guys, this was the first film in my life that I had to look away and almost switched it off as it was just too powerful!
Brilliant, but hugely disturbing….
Oh, but then i would’ve followed that comment by saying, ”Oh, but I still love ‘Mr. India’!!
But I was still in shock to see Shekar, especially as that was the last person I was expecting to be there!
Anyway… show had ended, and the audience were hovering around in the foyer, hoping to catch a glimpse of their Idol.
I decided to hang around the back stage door, where there were surprisingly, very few people.
Anyways, if there ever was a time to be in the right place, I, for once in my life, was there!
Two Tamil guys (lets call them Rajnivarun & Gopal Narayan!), were hovering around the back door, trying to explain that they had permission to see Rahman backstage.
After alot of convincing (they seemed to have a ‘pass’ of some sort) they were informed (discreetly) that Rahman had gone back onto the stage.
Man, Gopal and Rajni ran like the speed of lightning and I just followed..casually!
Entered the auditorium and saw around 20-30 people gathered in a corner.
My heart was beating louder and faster than any drum in the world!
I got closer and saw Rahman from a distance.
Finally…there I was, right infront of him….could not believe it!!
He was facing left and was blindly signing away.
I gave him my ticket from the previous day.
I didnt really want an autograph… seeing him so close was more than I expected!
He signed my ticket and passed it back to me..still facing left!!
It’s then that I mustered up the courage and said, ”Rahman!! I want to shake your hand!!’, to which he turned and smiled at me and put out his hand!
Oh my god, can you believe it!!
The very hands which have composed all this wonderful music, the very hands that play such wonderful instruments….oh man!! (thankyou God!)
I then said, ”I wrote you a letter.. did you get it??’.
Hardly finished my sentence and his face lit up!!
”Oh…(a small smile appereared) what do you do Steve”??
Oh man, he read the letter and called me by my name! (I really felt that all I ever desired had come true at that moment!)
For a second I was gonna make something up, just to impress him as I wasn’t actually in work then…. but couldn’t lie to him, so just mumbled ”Nothing…” apologetically!
He was then asked to go upstairs by my ‘kismet ke dushman’ at Symphony Hall, but he was trying to return a pen which someone must’ve given to him for autographs.
No one came forward for it, so like a school kid I put up my hand and took it from him.
Just as I thought my dream was thought lived, I overheard Gopal and Rajni say they were going to go upstairs too..through the back stage door!
I stuck to these guys like glue!
All was well, until I was stopped at the stage door, as Rahu-Khetu, Oops I mean, Gopal and Rajni got through (the special ‘pass’ remember?!).
I managed to get through to Rahman’s promoter, and was literally begging him.
He didn’t seem too bothered.
It was only when I mentioned my letter that the promoter stared at me and pulled out one of my many copies and said, ”This letter?!”
See!! Monica, Sangeeta and everyone…persistance pays off!
Well, in this case it did.
In some cases people get ARRESTED!!
So my letter became my passport to see Rahman!
Once upstairs, I was quite surprised to see that I was amongst a select few who had managed to make it.
In total there must’ve been 8 people.
But, these damn ‘fans’ had there own agenda!
One guy kept hugging Rahman saying ”Remember me?! Yeah look, I had this picture taken with you in ‘95, then this one in ‘97, then this….” I just thought ok mate, now can anyone else get in there?!!
And then there was Miss Lata Mangeshkar wannabe, who insisted that Rahman should hear her ’sureelee awaaz’ and sign her up for a song.
He patiently obligued!
And then Gopal and Rajni started to chat to him..and Gopal suddenly broke into a song..’DIL SE RE…!!” to which Rahamn jokingly asked, ”Who asked you to sing?” (our man has a cool sense of humour!).
All this went on, and I just stood back and watched him.
He noticed me and smiled.
He was then called to come and eat, and everyone left….grudgingly!
I just let him be. Afterall, what would the difference be between me and all the others?? They were all there to see what he could do for them.
Nothing wrong in that, but I just went there to thank him… I dont need anything else, he’s given enough.
He started to walk away when i just shouted, ”Thankyou Rahman!!’… to which he just smiled shyly!
Am I happy?? Ofcourse!! Ecstatic actually…
But yes, I’d still like to have an hour or so with him, just to chat about his music in detail… or to watch him work in his studio.
Ah the human heart. Never satisfied!!
Love this guy!
And that was my Rahman experience.
steve, your story deserves a separate post!
u made out 20 copies of the letter, u must have surely stored 1 for urself rite? if yes and if its not a personal love letter to the man then can v have the copy of that magical document? wld help in my day dreaming/future use if need be.
Cheers Tushar!
To be honest it wasnt meant to go on for that long.. just said whatever I remembered about that magical night….
And rbehemoth ofcourse I have copies of the letter man!!
I printed 20, but managed to only give 13 away, so had some spares man.
You can most certainly have a copy, lol!!
But basically it was a letter ‘mere Dil Se..’ get it?!!
Oh..and the following month I met Kavita Krishnamurthy Subramanium and her genius violinsit husband, Mr L.Subramanium!
I absolutely adore Kavita, she’s one of my faves!
They are absolute gems!
I swear, when i met them I felt WOW!!
Proves that there are some really sincere, lovely folk in the Industry too.
They were are extremley talented, and wonderfully humble.
ok i did somethin very silly n unpardonable once at this airport, my fren says there is a lady at the next counter who looks like kavita krishnamurthy/subramaniam, and i go like ,”ya ya why not, and i am ar rahman”, i dont even turn my head, and start singin “i love my india” in a female voice, onle seconds later i turn back n see kavita k/s for real, walkin away from the counter!! boy that was some fun, eh?8-|
Tushar!! U are joking?!!
Oh man, that is bloody funny!!
But seriously, she is a wonderful person, no attitiude and extremley friendly. Even now when she comes to the u.k, i meet her and have ‘hung out’ with them!
I should really count myself lucky!!!
”I love my India..”!!\:d/
Steve,
you are awesome man. Lot of enthu and it is inductive. keep it up buddy.
btw – I am so very happy about Jr. AB’s performance in Guru. Now I only hope that RGV builds on top of AB’s new found reputation and gives us same cinematic pleasure that Big B used to give in his haydays. Besides Mani, Santoshi and RGV are the ones I am banking on that would get the best out of Abhishek
Awesome story Steve
Thankyou so much guys for appreciating my story….
Who knows, when I become a director I might just add all that into a story about a mad Rahman fan! (but I need to stop dreaming first.. but hey, some dreams do come true right??)
Jwalant, thanks man.. very kind of you, and yes, totaly agree about Jr.AB’s performance and hope he gets more character roles to play.
Baarish, trust me, you won’t need to print 20 letters to get to Kavita, she is actually a very warm person who took out time for me, a total NOBODY when she was in the U.K!
I have a story about that too… but I really need to calm down henna?!
I’m overjoyed to know that you adore Kavita, I think she is so underrated a singer.. her vocals reach such heights man.. she really is something else..
Oh, have you heard her in ‘Paighaam’??
A song from ‘Lakeer’??
Yes I am aware that it was the same song that was used in the tamil film ‘Rhythm’ but she has outdone herself man!
Check it out….
Btw, what is your area Baarish??
thats so sweet of kavita yaar… there are only few who do that.. last year in London I met few celebrities…some were so rude, but there were few who were just so normal and sweet; so its great to hear that kavita is one of those nice and sweet people
I gotta jump on the Kavita bandwagon here –
like Steven said, very underrated and underused. The Alkas and Shreyas are all well and good, but her voice is something else. I could go on and on about her songs, but one of my faves is “pada jeena tere bin meri jaan” from Pardesi Babu, “mera ek sapna hain” (some Sunjay Dutt/Urmila film) and “jaane kab anjaane” from Kehtaa Hai Dil..
Will always cherish the fact that I got to see her sing live at an ARR concert.
I was hooked to Rhythm long before Lakeer, but Lakeer was done brilliantly inspite of the remakes of songs, my fav was SADIYAAN, which was an original in Hindi.
I had lost of expectations from the film, and for a change i thought sunny wud be treated differently. alas! i loved the john n suniel track though.
my fav kavita tracks are-tumhari adaao pe main vari vari, dheeme dheeme gaaoon, paighaam, main albeli,
Luckily I also had ‘Rhythm’ quite a while before ‘Lakeer’ and loved the soundtrack.
Rahman had a very elememtary feel to the album….one song represents water, another signified breeze, then there was ‘thaniye’ for earth and there was that fire song too.
But there is something so magical about the way she has sung ‘Paighaam’….
She has outdone Shaan and Rahman in that song!
zahur.. u got to see her too?? man!! good for ya… i wanna see/meet her :((:(( …i am totally in love with her voice… i guess she is just a beautiful person inside and out.. and we can simply hear that in her voice..well at least i believe that..
Lovely, Steve!
I wonder how many of your letters reached him ;)
Hey, you shook his hand! \:d/
PS: I think you have helped me decide not to watch Bandit Queen, by the way. :-s
Cheers Monica, but please don’t let me put you off ‘Bandit Queen’ as it is a brilliant film.
Just a little too much though.. and what makes it worse is the fact that it actually happened….
One viewing is more than enough.
Thats how i felt after the fantastic ‘Chandni Bar’ too.
Man i couldnt sleep after that film…. a proper horror film that was!!
Steve – Its good that you got to talk to him and shook his hand,:(( But i got a chance to see him working thats where the real fun is.\:d/
Hello friends, I liked the way ppl adore Kavitaji not only for her voice but also for her nature.I live in Mumbai I have never met her But yes I am a big fan of her and I have something 200 songs sung by her which r having some hits and some unnoticed. Each song has the same level of dedication and efforts.
Once she had come on radio city Fm, actually it was a series of singer guests coming in for 4 weeks and she was been called on the last show to end the show. She was so humble that the radio jockey and the organiser actually started weeping on radio bcoz they had Kavitaji and end of show. Even kavitaji had a heavy voice with tears. During the entire 4 hrs show the radio jockey was constantly repeating that(in hindi)”we have today kavitaji with Us and we will get to learn so many things from her”
If u guys know that Kavitaji and Chitraji has sung more numkber of songs for Rahman Sir.Kavitaji has sung around 36 songs in all hindi, tamil and telugu for Rahman. Now adays he is pusuing Alka(I don’t know y) bcoz kavitaji is very busy with exploring new hts in her singing talent.
Do reply me on my email or on this forum…….
