If a camera is fixed over a small village and it covers all the elements present in that village and it catches the activities happening in that village then what we will see? Its like somebody has been appointed by nature to have an eye over that village and to report whatever is happening there. Something interesting, something boring, something relevant and something irrelevant will be happing in that place but then life is like that only.

We are sitting inside our room but at same time outside of our house a snake may be wandering. In the near by forest a big animal will be eating a small animal. Some people will be sitting together, either working or playing or simply spending time in useless gossiping or useful conversation. Somebody will be sitting alone, lost in his own world. Somebody will be making plans to kill someone and someone will be executing his criminal plans. One family will be enjoying its meal and other family will be facing difficulties of life. If somebody will be engaged in his small scale cottage industrial unit or working in his fields then somebody will be enjoying the advantage of technology.

Life is scattered all over and something is always happening. It can be sunny right this moment and all of sudden a storm can come. Nature is not sitting idle any moment. If life is celebrated at a place then not far away from that place death will also be forcing some to weep.

If we capture all these happenings on a camera and see on screen then we may find it so boring to watch our own daily routines. If we don’t have appealing dialogues and defined characters before our eyes on the screen then we may imagine that what degree of boredom we will find through the scenes moving on the screen.

But no its not always true. Hukkle the film defies us and our hypothesis. Camerawork seizes our sight, sound is used to enhance the impact of the scenes, people shown on screen cant be said as mere actors who are acting. They are doing something or are engaged in something and camera has caught them doing that.

Scenes vary and we don’t know what will be next scene but camera ensures to maintain the curiosity level. We are habitual to watch something appealing on the screen in the films and we know the genre of the film, before we start it watching but Hukkle leaves us in guessing mode with every passing scene. We don’t know even after watching it in which category we can fit it?
No matter how observant we are and we think we have keen observation, we will find us in difficulty to solve the puzzle spread in the Hukkle and in first seeing, its almost impossible.

In whatever category we keep Hukkle, but it’s a worthy attempt as far as Direction, camerawork, editing and sound is concerned.
Now 33 year old György Pálfi had made this film in 2002 and it was his first full length feature film. He won several awards for this experimental film. Though its in Hungarian but barely 2-3 dialogues and one small song is there.

Boredom, interesting scenes, simple happenings, puzzle of murder etc etc, all is there. Its an expreiment with the cinematic expression.

To know such a film is to see the film. Without personally seeing, such films cant be known by mere reading about them. Its for those who don’t leave a film ( good, bad or ugly, whatever the case may be) in between and see a film till end as an art form and to know what Director wishes to show.

Vinayak: Thats wonderful:). This is true it may give impression that its made on some body who stammers.as we have hindi words Huklana for stammering.
Hukkle is a word, without any meaning, for a sound like Hiccups. Hungarians use this for sound comes out of hiccups.
    Hinhinanana, taratarana, type
But joking apart, dont tell me that you, who know so much abt films, have not known abt this film.
