HUM TO OMKARA KE MUSIC KI DEHLIZ KI DAASI HAI JI BAS!!!!!!!
The problem with reality is there is no music happening in the background, which is why music like this really appeals to a musically starved soul like me who looks forward to good Hindi film music. Soothens me big time. ![]()
I can never get over the music of Omkara..How on earth did this man have the ability to make this film and on top of that make such fantastic music? I can’t even decide which my favorite track is because there is a song which does justice to every mood in this album. It is awesome music. I think Vishal Bhardwaj is the most underrated Music composer in the industry.
OMKARA - The title track will make all real men stand up and feel good about themselves. All the others will want to be real men. The base and the snares and the feel of the song just catch you and pull you in this rural blend of music. I think I know why Sukhwinder Singh doesn’t feel guilty about smoking. It gives his voice which is anyway so powerful a sharper edge and roundness in terms of texture. The song and the singer’s voice do complete justice to the character of Omkara. Wow man. What a character. I would love to be with a real man like tht.He can go kill all the people in the world and I will look after his house for him.I dont mind being murdered in the end too. Lol.
OH SAATHI RE - Ufffff!!!!! The ultimate song for any Indian woman like me. It is sheer romance and so sublime in nature. It calms you down and takes you into a journey where everything is still and in slow motion.Shreya Ghoshal has done a fantastic job by singing it with just the right amount of emotion and softness. Her voice can make you smile. It is very sweetly sung. Esp the lines - ”Teri meri atti batti, dant se kate katti…..oh pehu re ”… kya baat hai…The acoustic guitar travels beautifully to form a picture of completion in terms of the emotion of peaceful love and longing… It’s the song for a mood of quietness and innocent love. Beautiful…
BEEDI - Bahut mazedaar.. Anyone would want to dance to this tune. Lovely lyrics….”Beedi jalai le, jigar se piya, jigar ma badi aag hai”. Sara bhaiya log to khush ho jaate honge is gaane ko sunke…To be honest I have seen a whole lot of people out there shake their ass on this one. Sunidhi is perfect for this song along with Sukhwinder…The dholak and the rhythm is so uninhibited and adds to the groove. It’s like a thrill listening to this one. Very kewl.
JAG JA - I feel embarrassed listening to this one with anyone around me because it makes me so God damn vulnerable…Bahut hi pyara aur surila gaana hai …The piano and the softness of the flute gives a beautiful picture in my head whenever I hear it. It has very fine treatment in terms of technical dexterity It becomes playful and pretty after a while and then again takes you into the lullaby mode…oops wake the baby up mode….”Oh ri rani gudiya, jag ja, ari jag ja, moi jag ja…”. Bas woh last wala haina thoda sa ganda lagta hai…He didn’t have to do the ”HAINA?” while speaking…It makes it lets say about 43.444 % cheezy…I won’t say any more to that.
NAMAK - Rekha Bhardwaj is the only woman who could have sung this song with such immense style. Thing is she doesn’t have to try to make the attitude happen. It comes naturally to her. It’s like Geeta Dutt is the only one who can do justice to the songs sung by her. I don’t think anyone could sing them like her…I can never in my head picture Lata or Asha singing her songs. I don’t know why. Geeta dutt is the only one who can sing those songs like that. She also had her own original style and voice. This song is very earthy and sensual. Very naughty and fast paced in the second half. I was so lost in the music and the mood of this song for so many months that it took me a while to figure out the first few lines sung by her. I used to think she is singing ”Mein chaand nigal gayi” lol…I thought the character is so stoned and so much in love that she feels like she swallowed a whole moon and hence feels dizzy , till I figured out that she is singing ”Mein chaand NIKAL gayi”…lol.
NAINA - Hay ram!!! My favorite all time track from the album…Aisa gaana to bilkul ban ho jaana chahiye…
The acoustic guitar and the base is perfect…The pick up of the base makes me feel so god damn excited… How did he do it? The song pulls you into its space and holds you till the very end. You can’t stop the mood it puts you in. I tend to listen to music with all my senses completely open to it. I give it a chance with all my being to appeal to me. If it doesn’t then I close up. This song touches a chord every time I hear it. It picks up so well from the antra and then it takes you for walk towards heaven and then to the land of dreams and greenery. And then suddenly pinches you with the lyrics -” Naino ki zubaan pe bharosa nahi aata…right after that…It fights as well…Very intense and passionate.Rahat Fateh ali khan is so good man.I love this song.
LAKAAD - Hmmm… Solitude simply made, emptiness, lots of water, Rekha’s voice is sweet…I like the guitar in this song…
TRAGEDY OF OMKARA - Nice for the background score. It has its importance. May have been used for the trailer and the promotion of the film… Earthy and rustic. This song is average according to me.
There you go guys. I have given you my view about the songs of Omkara. I haven’t come across anything that has been able to beat this in a long time. This album has balance and is original. What amazing depth. It’s worth my time any time.
OH VISHAL BHARDWAJ…. GIVE US MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maya, you should meet Kartik Krishnan… he too is a big fan of Omkara like you… I think he’s currently in Delhi shooting a short movie.
oz, they have already met…wink wink..thanks to OM..wink wink
OZ What did i tell you? Mantri ji OM has gotten hold of PFC people in India. he is just waiting for the right moment to strike.

He knows exactly what is going on in India.
nice written article.
if i talk about songs of omkara,’naina’ is best song on the term of hindi poetry and to justify this i waana use only one line of that song ‘naino ki mat suniyo naina dash lenge’.I like ‘namak’ more than biddi becuase namak is better exeecuted and written than ‘bidi’(e.g udhar dene lage hai gali ke baniye baniye).
but i think songs of RDB are more versatile than songs of OMKARA.
great article…
dont kill me if u dont like this
but its HILARIOUS

Hey Maya, good post ya. M also big fan of omkara’s music. my favourite is namak ishq ka. luv rekha bharadwaj!!! m big fan of hers. whenver i listen to omakara, i just put namak ishq ka in loop mode. always wonder why she doesnt get to sing more.
her other song tere ishq me is also all time favourite. video by vishal is also damn good. but i cant tolerate that bidi jalaiye anymore. its like bunty bubli’s kajra re. overplay has killed the song.
Naina is 1 of the best songs I’ve evr heard in my life;it is intense raw brooding haunting & in the end devastating & ovrwhlmng. It makes Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s earlier songs sound like nursery rhymes. Namak Isq Ka: man I cud almost marry Rekha Bhardwaj for the voice she’s got & the way she’s sung this song. Laakad is the polar oppsite: slow restrained but she bares her soul in the song. Definitely one of my fav singers As 4 the others cudnt have agreed mor with u! Didnt undrstnd that “makes me fl vulnerabl” part!
who is the indian director who is going to shoot the segment??????????????:-?

BD i like good music and if it goes very deep inside and pulls out emotions from me, i let it for the fact tht it can..songs tht can make you feel something are special.
i thought it was obvious maya…
mr bharadwaj himself

wow..i didnt know. fantastic. :d/
i want song Tere Ishq Mein by vishal bhardwaj
Apropos the Namak song.
I still think that she says “chand niGal gayi” - later, the song mentions a dude called “chandra-bhaan”. so it might be a reference to him, that she feels like she swallowed him.
In contrast, “mai chaand niKal gayi” does not make any sense.
And yes, I agree - vishal bharadwaj is a bloody genius, like his guru gulzar and rekha bharadwaj seems to be a full equal.
A song like namak, with its fantastic metaphors and innuendos and sensuality comes along only once in a blue moon - in my eyes, its a classic in the history of hindi films - the voice, the lyrics, the music - they all match each other so perfectly, that its just a divine piece of creation.
