i love to be a performing Artist

How did theatre happen?
I always had a desire to join theatre. Learn the performing art. After my graduation in 1998, I enrolled for a workshop conducted by Amol Palekar and Bhakti Barve following which Bhakti barve informed me about Pandit Satyadev Dubey’s free workshops. I joined the workshop and did various plays, but no one took notice. I then did backstage for Makarand Deshpande’s play Vasanth Ka Teesra Yoven. It was then, that I actually learnt theatre. At the same time another friend who was also a struggler in the industry told me that Rajkumar Santoshi was looking for an actor who resembled the freedom fighter Rajguru. I appeared for the look tests and finally bagged the role of Rajguru in The Legend of Bhagat Singh. Currently I am doing three plays - Saa Hi Besura, Ek Kadam Aage, Seetaram Ki Khoj Mein Hawaldar, and many.

Theatre to me is riyaaz and so I will continue pursuing it.
What is one special thing about theatre?
In any movie, a character ends with the film. But in theatre a character is born and dies with every show. We can experiment with the character. Every show gives the actor the opportunity to live the character. We can see the happiness, sadness, all emotions in audience’s eyes….theater is total experience of performing art, I just love to be part of theater.
Which is the most challenging role you have ever done?

I think every role is challenge for me. & I except it positively & passionately.
Who is one creative personality you look up to?

The late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. From the lyrics, his voice, to his style his passion… every melody he recited had the capacity to take the listeners to a different world of trance.
What is your say on parallel cinema gaining popularity?
I think there is no as such parallel or commercial cinema. People & media named them
Audience decide the film, if they love the film they talk about it if they not they ll still talk about films, they just love films, no one ll stop them. They ll love film forever whether it is bad or good
The audience too prefers practicality over fairytales and so has begun to appreciate such films.
One actor whom you enjoyed working with the most…
I worked with legends like Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Amir khan Mithun Chakraborty,Nasirudin shah, Sudhir pande,Raghubir yadav, They are wonderful co-actors. They create a very comfortable atmosphere for the co-actors. & I am fortunate that I work with all this mind blowing actors….
But I enjoy very much with Mithun chakraborty most.
How do you feel as known actor in society?
Its really great feeling that your work appreciated by people. They always expect more & more form every actor. that’s really big responsibility as creative person. People always told me that you acted very good in so & so film…I replyd them that I have to act 100% in every film or every work I did, because in every field you have to work 100%. Or you have to deliver 100% . If you not then you ll not grow.& u ll not get next chance.
But yes I love to be an actor …

wh

Which director you want to work with?

Ohhhhh there are so many of them…..yes but I like to work with Anurag Kashyap,Nagesh kuknoor, Shriram raghvan, Vishal bharatdwaj , Sanjay leela bhansali, Priyadarshan, Ashutosh Gowarikar, so many …….they all are just superb.. i know ill work with all of them one day.

D: Hope its ur first name:)
Welcome on PFC. Its nice to see you here.
As you have been dwelling both in Theatre as well as in Cinema also. Though both are acting related arts but Camera catches you very closely and record expresions in eyes and even movements of muscles of face.
Do you follow same pattern in your acting at both the places or you do take care for special features and bring differences in your performance at stage and before camera?
Some thing can be irrelevant and thus additional effort in each one of them.
Ofcourse in theatre you go home with instant reaction and with inner vows to improve today’s mistakes and in Cinema you lose this chance atleast for that part of the story as soon as cameraman store your scene.
Do you find difference between directors in both the mediums especially during the rehearsal times!

    welcome again!

    Hello guys im touchd

thanks for all your warm welcome…im feeling good with intaracting with you all.

    Rk assk me that
Do you follow same pattern in your acting at both the places or you do take care for special features and bring differences in your performance at stage and before camera?

i dont follow any pattern for theater n cinema. i think there is no such pattern to perform in both media, its all abouut beautiful amalgmation heart & brain. i normaly use obsevation memory mixed with my emotion..understand what im saying…
& most imp is what sean situation & charactr deamend.i perform what i felt that point ..thats it.simple

    RK ask me
Do you find difference between directors in both the mediums especially during the rehearsal times!

in theater directors work of charactr’s details from actor.he always share his experience..with actor for performance..even gives lots of space to actors..reharsals time is like acting workshop
for a actors…..they can work on ther speeches, attitude of charactrs, movment on stage..actor try to be as perfect as possible.its wounderful time we spend in reharsal with chai, cigreats,& lots of sweat…i just love to be part of reharsals

in cinema there is not that much time to reharsals.you have to be prepared from first day of shoot. u have to do home work for that role. u have to be very fast whne you r shooting.

  16. jai on May 26th, 2007 10:00 am

hi santosh…i didn’t know who u r…but i like my rajguru…we see many great performances in many films, but we do not recognize or do not care to remember the supporting leads…but that’s not the case with u…at first sight itself ur image was inscribed in my mind, i haven’t watched ur subsequent films but rajguru is still there…u show required intensity in your performance without losing the childlike innocence which makes it more believable and more impactful…

all the best and hang on there, we need many like u

  17. D Santosh on May 27th, 2007 10:04 am

thnx Jai for your wounderful compliment i appriciate.hummmm your keen observer of films & charctor’s..
if you want to know about my more performence’s pl.chq. my dairy name ‘RECATIONS’by DSantosh..
if the role is authorback then actor can perform more excillent or he can go beyond.
but in Indian hindi film only main charactor(Hero)is authorback other charactors r for feel up the placees…..thatswhy didnt get good charctorsto perform….
for example suppose if diffrent actor played rajguru in TLOBH…u like his performance too…..
becoz the charctor is fantstic..& again Authorsback…….
but anyways no problem ill get more & more good roles & ill make gold of it…..
but thnx again for your reply

    c u soon
