Iconic Characters in Motion Pictures - Part 1

When ever you watch any great movie there is a particular character that stay’s with you for ever and some times that character is so powerful that it changes the way you act in real life. Here are some of those characters that I can never forget in my life

1) Derek Vinyard (American History X): If there is powerful character in motion pictures this is definetly one of them, you get to see two totally different characters as movie unfolds. First one a Nazi Skinhead, brilliant student is exploited by single minded christ disciple builds an army to take over people of different colors around him and the second one is of caring brother who will give his life to make things better for his family. You see a stong minded person changing in due course of time and his experience in prison plays an important role in changing him. Here are some quotes from the movie

Cameron: This is stupid. Go cool off, get laid, do something, come back when you’re ready to talk.
Derek Vinyard: Yeah, but it really doesn’t matter if I do does it, ’cause you got a whole crop already lined up you fuckin’ chicken hawk!
Cameron: Excuse me?
Derek Vinyard: You prey on people Cam. I lost three years of my life for your fuckin’ phony cause, but I’m onto you now you fuckin’ snake.
Cameron: Hey watch it Derek, this isn’t some fuckin’ country club where you can walk in and outta here…
Derek Vinyard: Shut up! Shut Up! Shut the fuck up, I came here for one reason, to tell you that I’m out, and Danny’s out too and if you come near him again, I will feed you your fucking heart.

There are some scenes which you will never forget
a) Derek Killing a black guy on crub infront of his house- This scene will make you think twice before killing any thing.

b) Prison Inmates raping Derek in bathroom- scares the hell out of you and you feel pity for the life of Inmates.

2) Vijay (Pyaasa): The first time I saw this movie some how I couldnt stop my self asking why the hell is the world so bitchy? You dont know whether to pity vijay for his failure in life or get angry at him for allowing people to get away with what they did to him. Pyaasa is my favourite bollywood movie of all time. Some times I feel I never would want to get to know these kind of people on real life this definetly makes you feel strong when you look at failure. You could never imagine how a loser can win every ones heart with his honesty. Pyaasa should deserve hell lot more credit than it gets, especially Gurudutt for playing Vijay. Here are some of the quotes from the movie

Vijay: Apne shauk ke liye pyaar karti hai aur apne aaram ke liye pyar bechti hai.
[Love, for her, is a hobby that she can barter for material pleasures]

Vijay: To phir mein yahan kya kar raha hun. Mein kyon zinda hun, Gulabo?
[What am I doing here? Why an I alive, Gulabo?]

3) Vito Corleone (The God Father): Even though this character is played by two different people for me Marlon Brando is Vito Corleone. If there is any one who desereves Power and respect from people I think its Vito Corleone. From the moment he appears on screen every one wants to be Vito Corleone and you want to be a Gangster. You could never imagine a Gangster being respected by people from different walks of life. His life it self is a great story that you want every one to get to know. He teaches you how to do handle family matters and treat your family and thats the essence of a any family no matter where you from. Here are some of the quotes of the one and only DON.

Don Corleone:” A man who dosent spend time with his family can never be a real man”

Don Corleone: What have I ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? If you’d come to me in friendship, then this scum that ruined your daughter would be suffering this very day. And if by chance an honest man like yourself should make enemies, then they would become my enemies. And then they would fear you.

Don Corleone: You talk about vengeance. Is vengeance going to bring your son back to you? Or my boy to me?

Don Corleone: I spent my whole life trying not to be careless. Women and children can be careless. But not men.

Don Corleone: I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.

I would want all of you to add some more characters to this list………………

OK, here goes my little list(in no particular order of preference):

    1. Travis Bickle-De Niro- Taxi Driver(Anytime, anywhere , Thank God for the rain to wash the trash off the sidewalk, You’re only as healthy as you feel(the best stoner line of all times), One of these days I gotta get myself organizized, The days go on and on… they don’t end. All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don’t believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention, I believe that one should become a person like other people, I first saw her at Palantine Campaign headquarters at 63rd and Broadway. She was wearing a white dress. She appeared like an angel. Out of this filthy mess, she is alone. They… cannot… touch… her(another favorite stoner line), and ya…you talkin’ to me? :-))

    2. Amar Kant Verma - Dil Se
    3. Lallan Singh - Yuva
    4. Anandam- Iruvar
    5. The Unforgettable Duo from Pulp Fiction
    6. Lester Bangs - Almost Famous(These are people who want you to write sanctimonious stories about the genius of the rock stars, and they will ruin rock and roll and strangle everything we love about it), actually, ALL CHARACTERS from AF, I am way too possessive about ‘em.

    14. Spud - Trainspotting(Only to get my foot in the door. Showing initiative and that like, Whatever you say, I’m sorry. You’re the man. The dude in the chair, your pleaszaa is my leiszaa)
    15. Raoul Duke- Fear & loathing in Las Vegas(Look, there’s two women fucking a polar bear!, If the pigs were gathering in Vegas, I felt the drug culture should be represented as well, A drug person can learn to cope with things like seeing their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth. But no one should be asked to handle this trip, Last name? I’d rather not say. My brother’s in politics, Dogs fucked the Pope… no fault of mine, ….)

She was a folk singer., That’s all I have to say about that., I gotta pee., We was always taking long walks, and we was always looking for a guy named “Charlie”, Me and Jenny goes together like peas and carrots)

    21. Tom in Lock Stock(Listen to this one then; you open a company called the Arse Tickler’s Faggot Fan Club, Seems? Well, this seems to be a complete waste of my time. That, my friend, is 900 nicker in any store you’re lucky enough to find one in. And you’re haggling over 200 pound? What school of finance did you come from Nick? “It’s a deal, it’s a steal, it’s the Sale of the fucking Century!” In fact, fuck it Nick, I think I’ll keep it!,

    22. The Dude in…(do I need to say it?!) –God damn you Walter! You fuckin’ asshole! Everything’s a fuckin’ travesty with you, man! And what was all that shit about Vietnam? What the FUCK, has anything got to do with Vietnam? What the fuck are you talking about? Where’s the fucking money Lebowski? Mind if I do a J?

The Dude: Did you ever hear of “The Seattle Seven”?
    Maude Lebowski: Mmm.
The Dude: That was me… and six other guys.

    OK, I guess more later…lol.
