IFFLA 2008 - LineUp

Indian Film Festival of Los Angles(IFFLA) is a festival that probably comes closest to PFC’s own aspirations as platform to showcase movies par excellence without money, power and politics and only talent and creativity being the buzz words.

Like 2007, PFC promises to give an indepth and close coverage of the entire event with very very exclusive updates, interviews and more than anything else, an unique insight into what goes into making movies and its festivals the greatest shows on the planet.

Not failing the movie faithfuls like ever, Christina Marouda and the entire IFFLA team has put together an event that will be nothing like ever witnessed combining soemof the best movies from mainstream Indian Cinema to the discreetly creative independent cinema of Indian origin. Be it the unique platform to capture shorts where PFC’s very own Srinivas is running for honors for the second year in succession or be in the best indigenous film made in the country - Vanaja last year and Mumbai Cutting this year, the festival always achieves to showcase our nations talent in a very different light.

The following is the line up this year and the films are being joined by most of the directors who will take the time to talk about the films. PFC will be there every step of the way and will try to bring you lowdowns that can only be covered from a film buff’s perspective. The most unique event for a long time is the closing Gala where all the directors of this years premiere film - Mumbai Cutting will be personally available to put there personal take on India’s tinsel town into perspective and will be open for questions and debates about the whole thing. Keep watching this space for more.

    nice

here is excerpt of a kitano interview.
    it’s something
    i found it here

    http://www.midnighteye.com/interviews/takeshi_kitano.shtml

    quote -
Q - In this film the role of women is more central than in your earlier films. You’ve always made very masculine films in which women have always been relegated to the sidelines.

Kitano - I love women and maybe that’s the reason why there isn’t a lot of space in my films for them. I’m a very shy person. I think that directors who make films about women, who give them very central roles, are men who don’t like women. The day my desire for women becomes less strong is maybe the day I will make a film about women.

    unqoute.

    :-?

    nice. thanks for the post.
some interesting films in there…few thoughts on going through the synopsis..
    Looking forward to hearing about:
Amal; looks pretty interesting. A colossal cast. Who is Ritchie Mehta?
    Silent Hues
Before the rains: the pic on the synopsis page is such a delight. Would love to check out the score of this one.
Beast; looks exciting. Reasons are not too hard to guess.
    Love story: very good plot
    Midnight lost & found
The lost rainbow : the story sounds familiar, should be interesting to see how its done
Vaapsi: the 4 min duration intrigues me
Rewind: Guy Ritchie cut to size I guess.
Sari (w)rap: this one will surely stir up a storm if exhibited in here
    Super 30 : haila! IIT!
The Pool: excellent plot, sundance fame adds to the buzz
Frozen: enough has been said about this film. I wonder what stops such films from hitting the theaters.
Mumbai Cutting: about time. is the music available anywhere?

  9. RICK on April 10th, 2008 10:35 am

hey is the common public invited to the festival?
my bro would be in L.A during this time, so if its open for everyone then he would love to drop by

  10. ravptor on April 10th, 2008 10:48 am

Rick, yes its open as long as buy the ticket for the movies…

Please ask him to drop by and say hi… Team PFC will be there in full force…

  11. ravptor on April 10th, 2008 10:50 am

Tushar… u made my choices for movie watching easier… Will let you know if I can find the music there at IFFLA! Hopefully I will be able to steal a copy at the screening.

  12. oz on April 10th, 2008 10:53 am

there will be a live band on the April 25 playing all RD Boss’s hits at the venue… I think this is the biggest year for IFFLA in it’s 6 year history…

  13. Vivek H on April 10th, 2008 10:58 am

I’m quite curious about “Mumbai Cutting”. So many accomplished directors from India and one theme “Mumbai”. I hope, it gets a theatrical release. And, I can’t make it to IFFLA. :(

  14. Tushar on April 10th, 2008 11:48 am

    awesome. have fun guys. :)

  15. Pratik on April 10th, 2008 11:58 am

Awesome line-up …!! Mumbai Cutting and Pancham Unmixed look really good. Watched Loins of Punjab Presents at the SAIFF last year - a really funny film.

I really wish I could be there, unfortunately can’t :( … koi baat nahin, hopefully next year :) Can’t wait for the PFC coverage of the festival.

  16. Sarang on April 10th, 2008 11:38 pm

By the way, how does one go ahead with getting a film festival set up in one’s state/city? I am tired of people getting OSO and Saawariya and showing it as Indian cinema in film festivals. Any information would be most helpful.

  17. Neeraja on April 11th, 2008 6:11 am

    Interesting stuff.
Since you guys will be there, will it be possible to find out which of these movies are going to which other film festivals around the world?

    DPac

chahe asal duniya ho ya virtual
main tahjeeb aur tameej se hi pesh aata hoon

meri batein itni kamjor nahien hotin ki, notice hone ke liye mujhe badtameeji karni pade. main badtameeji ki pahal nahien karta.

your post was sincere. what you said was right. i did hijack threads. your those three four lines was so sincere that i felt cared. even to response to those line would have violated the sincerity.

than there comes om’s post. i wrote just one line. and there was nothing to be trolled. but i think editor must have been anticipating something nasty from me. and i don’t blame him. because editor was under this impression, that one line of mine looks him troll worthy. again i have no problem with that. its editors pejorative.

    here i go …..

“don’t get anybody to talk to…”

in west a family means father mother, son and daughter. very few people around them. this breads a fear for loneliness in them. they always try how not to be alone. still loneliness is a fact of life in west. from here comes the idea. that lonely people turns towards net or networking sites. to seek the connection that is missing in real life.

in india a child is born among fifty people. our society is such that no body is alone. we make friends easily. an above average indian start weighing the option to leaving all this sea of people and go to himalya. since birth he is surrounded with people. in india aloneness is a luxury. it is not possible to be alone without going to himalaya.

i have two of my friends marriages lined up this month to be attended. i basically use sites to vomit the collection of ideas that i have consumed. i don’t care to make virtual friends because i am amply blessed with real life friends.

pfc can boast of having some really nice people.
its label is definitely higher than majority
and as of now i haven’t found another interesting site.

    :-@

  19. DPac on April 14th, 2008 12:34 am

    Vishrant,
    feel free to vomit mate..
but we have enough baltis for you to do that.
just choose the right one …
    dont hijack baltis…:)

  20. vishrant on April 14th, 2008 4:06 am

i want to explain my statement made in above post

“main badtameeji ki pahal nahien karta”

if so, than what was my reaction towords the maker of ‘mahayoddha ram’

there are two terms ‘anger’ and ‘insult’
they did not mean same thing.

    ‘anger’
is never intentional. it is sudden.
try to be angry. you can not.
    anger happens. unexpectedly.

    ‘insult’
    is always intensional.
you can not insult someone, if you don’t have the intention.
even if you use some insulting word, but without any prior intension, subjected person won’t feel insulted.

i got angry upon the filmmaker.
i realize that later. when anger was gone.

behavior of anger can be forgiven.

    insult can not be forgiven.

I can’t wait for Mumbai Cutting, hope to see it soon at one of the festivals in Europe, because I can’t make it to the L.A festival.

I hope everyone who’s going, reports on this film!! ;)
