IFFLA 2008 : My experience

Here is a breif abstract of what happend

Thursday May 24:
went to airport around 6:30 as per striker’s request had couple of beers and some mexican food @ houston airport and we talked about which movies are gonna rock and whats going on with PFC, how it was one year back and how its changed and where its going…

both of us were feeling real bad that OM and Vijay aren’t gonna make to this year…but some way striker had this feeling that these two suckers are gonna surprise us and I was like “I wish they would”….

On flight saw “National Treasure : book of secrets” striker sleept thru most of the flight….

Landed in LA got first call from guess who?????…….suprise!! suprise!! its vijay…..both of us were very happy…took bus to rental car and dabba landed around 11:30 PM….finally after struggling for almost an hour we got our rental car…shook hands with dabba and drove straight to HQ….. another suprise it was OM…we were like “bhenchod……. sala aagaya”

gale milaying session with oz, mainak, vijay, N, srinivas, ravi and saurabh…..beer session was already going on and 3 of us joined in….

N cooked “the best daal tadka” I had in a while…ate and drank some more beer…cought up with vijay on his film, got everyone’s opinion on this years oscars….suddenly from movies ravi, mainak got into more serious discussions on Obama vs Hillary and by that time i was ready to say good night…

Friday May 25:

Woke up had Oz’s “Amazing chai” watched cricket for a while and then we all got ready and drove to ArcLights….

Met Shivaji Chandrabhushan, Sriram, Sudhir, Sanjay routray…started a small session with Sriram on upstairs patio, we were talking about JohnnyGaddar and how it fared in US, Ek Hasina Thi and the fight sequence b/w saif and kareen he explained us the back story of the scene…..saw shivaji’s “frozen” movie was alright but had stunning visuals…

we got lost on the way to chakra indian resturant thanks to t!…went in had more beers started talking to shivaji about “frozen” and Oz pulling shivaji’s taang and suggesting him to name his next film “boiling”…..

dabba in mean while trying to score on some hot chicks and sumeet providing dabba with some tips…..

after that drove straight to “Film makers House” where sriram had invited PFC and other people from IFFLA gang…had some nice discussions on Bappi lahari’s music, MM kreem and his journey into hindi films, how bollywod producers should tap US market….finally we decided to take off @ 3:00 AM…t! got us to HQ and the whole experience was like “Speed Racer” trailer…good night @ 4:00AM….

Satday May 26:

Woke up….saw some cricket…oz’s “amazing chai”…went to artesia had lunch @ “Tirupathi Bhimas”…

got to arclights @ 2:15 PM and we came to know that tickets for “shorts 2″ were sold out…was soo disappointed that I couldnt get to watch srinivas’s “the return”…was just hanging around ArcLights….

then enters Mr Anurag Kashyap he drove straight from LAX to ArcLights..he was looking more like Dev.D with his daadi…went to borders with Anurag and Sudhir….they were talking in some language that I didn’t get it about what movies they are about to buy…I bought some dvd’s that i wanted to….

then I met srinivas after shorts 2 program and explained that we didn’t had tickets to get in…seems like he had 4 or 5 tickets in hand and he was waiting for people to show up…was thinking “sala jab kismat ho gandu, kya karega pandu”…

went to the premier of “Pancham Unmixed - unending Journey” was great…probably one of the better films @ IFFLA….had a smoke in b/w breaks for our next film “Shot in Bombay”….it was funny yet gave me an Insight of how bollywood works now i realize how tough is the job of director….By the end of the night was happy for watching 2 great films…

got back to HQ…started another session with vijay and dabba about south indian films and other gossip in the industry….said good night @ 5:30 AM

Sunday April 27:

Woke up…OZ’s chai + Marlboro to kick off the closing day @ IFFLA….Ravi and Saurabh left early with OZ, !t and OM to do interviews….Myself, dabba and striker stayed back and finished watching Loins of Punjab…which was decent…was suprised with Manish’s acting…he was not bad….

Lunch @ TIrupathi bhimas for second day ….on the way to ArcLights 3 of us were pumping out ARR music and reliving Prabhu deva dance steps in our rental car….we all wished that DJ should play ARR + Prabhu Deva combo tonight and we are gonna go crazy on dance floor….

reached arclights had a beer and then i jumped into watch the interview of Bramhanand (Pancham: Unending Journey director) I loved it…. Oz went nostalgic about pancham and we all enjoyed the interview session….Saurabh should put up the interview verysoon…. then I went to watch sara singh’s “The Sky Below” which was okie…it was about India-pakistan partition and how many people were killed etc., next myself and srinivas were off to Ameoba bought some more dvd’s…..

then Mumbai Cutting….but before that there was awards ceremony and sudhir introduced the directors to the crowd…mumbai cutting started….I personally Loved Kundan Shah’s the Hero, Shashank’s……., Anurag’s “pramod bhai…23″,Ayush Raina’s “Mumbai High” and atlast rahul dholakia’s “Mumbai bombay same shite” this one had attitude take it or fuck off…….

after the screening went to closing night gala party…hung out with Rahul Dholakia and sudhir mishra…rahul some how wasn’t liking the idea if blogs and the type of readers that come on to the blogs and how they effect the film maker in his future films….had another discussion with Sriram about RGV, His next movie…..

me and OZ drove back to HQ…had a beer and doozed off…

Monday April 28:

Woke up next morning had Oz’a chai for the last time in this year and then drove back to LAX……

All of a sudden I have become so much dis interested in this website and it’s content. One expects Anurag to write something but he doesn’t. Other writers are either plain boring in what they write or try to imitate anurag’s style but obviously fail miserably. When will I get the hot and pepper flavor of PFC back??

Back from IFFLA, And must say- I was more impressed with PFC presence than with my film there. You guys have lots of energy, views and positive vibes- Lets see more of it on this site.

The Closing Night Film, Mumbai Cutting, which I am proud to be associated with, would have been just another boring festival evening had it not been for the young and talented contributors of PFC who cheered but rarely jeered, who argued but never intimadated, who opined but never asserted.

Love the spirit. Keep it Alive.

    Best

    Rahul Dholakia

Oz,Om,Mayank,Striker and all those PFC guys…it was fun to actually meet the PFC guys…you guys dont look so dreaded after all…IFFLA was cool…from LA I flew to SIFF for the International Film Festival there…and to tell you guys I was missing “the House”inspite of staying at the Freemont Hotel which was awsome…coming back to IFFLA kudos to Christina and all the volunteers and every single person associated with the organisation…and thank you the audience who came to grace the screening of my film…

    Shivajee Sir
Do you remember who was who? Photo mein pehchan loge kaun striker hai aur kaun Mayank hain?

    Whats the next festival?
I agree with you. No other Festival is like IFFLA. There is a family kind of vibe in it. There is a personal touch to it.
