Immortal Andaz Apna Apna
I was watching Oye Its Friday, Aamir Khan on guest chair and Farhan mentioned Andaz Apna Apna as becoming the cult classic of Bollywood. There is no doubt. I remember the first time I watched it I missed out on more than half of the film because either I was laughing or was trying to breathe. Never felt this ecstatically horrified by any other movie, EVER. Not even a Hollywood movie comes close. I was reading Vasan’s post on Satya dialogues and felt that Andaz Apna Apna deserves a trip down the memory lane as well. here are my favorite dialogues from AAA.
#Juhi – Kabhi Kabhi sochti hoon, een majboot kandho ka sahara nahi hota, to mera kya hota.
#Juhi – Oh Amar,
Amar – Juhi, my darling.
#Amar – Babulal, sambhal ke. Kal ki tarah iska bhi kaan mat kaat dena.
Customer – Aare bhai sambhal ke.
#Amar – Hogi pitaji hogi. mere jaisi aulaad wahi hogi jaha aap jaisa baap hoga.
# Prem – Chalegi? Khut-khut ke chalegi.
#Johnny- mai aapko bhi star banaoonga uncle
Bankelaal – Uncle………muze hero banayega. Khud to chaprasi nahi ban saka.
#Prem- Ae Amar, woh dekh teri hone waali bhabhi.
Amar- Teri shaadi madhuri dixit se ho rahi hai kya?
Prem- Woh nahi, usake niche waali.
#Ananad Akela- Tum logone Sholay picture dekhi hai?
Prem- ha maine das baar dekhi hai.
Amar- ha iske baap ne likhi hai.
#Prem- Dr Prem Khurana
Karishma- Purana??????
#Bhalla- Aap sirf itna bolo ke mareej ko kab aur kitne dande marne hai.
#Robert- Sir, good timing to hai lekin good time kab aayega.
#Teja- (voice over) Yeh saale kaise aadmi tune paal rakhe hai teja.
#Karishma- Aare mareej ke pehle doctor ko pata chalega……..(softly) kyu doctor?
Prem- Rrrrrrright.
#Raveena- Aare is doctor ke aane ke baad to tumhare tewar hi badal gaye hai tewar.
#Amar- Mere sirf do hi shauk hai. Shikar karna aur football khelna.
#Amar- Yeh lo apna apna glass.
Robert and Bhalla(to each other)- Apna Apna?
#Teja- Kaleja thanda hua mera.
# Amar- (disguised) to Prem- Ae munna, apni amma ko kaha le ja raha hai munna?
#Raveena- Tum bade ‘wo’ ho.
Amar- Achha ‘wo’, wo to mein hoon.
#Bhalla- Naam leke fire karo, thik nishane pe lag jayegi.
#Raveena and Karishma (alternately)- lakho mein ek hai. Nek hai. Dil se. Dimaag se. Aaawaj se. Andaaz se.
#Ramgopal Bajaj- Amar Prem. Pavitrya aur paripoornta se bharpur. Naam sunte hi muze andaaza aa gaya tha ke tum filmy aur awaara kisam ke ladke ho. Par tum to nikamme aur nathalle bhi ho. Shakal se murkh aur jaahil dikhte hi ho jab ye soch kar aaye ke mere bitiya ki shaadi mein tum jaise khachcharo se kar doonga.
#Prem- (to amar) Jo maine bola woh bhi bol daal.
#Anand akela: Maanlo ke Ramgopal Bajaj kisi musibat mein pad chuka hai.
Amar- Are saala woh khud ek musibat hai, woh kaunsi musibat mein padega?
#Bhalla- Aur phir ladies hostel ke saamne chakkar lagata hai.
Robert- Very dirty fellow sir.
#Bihari lal: dana dan hamare sar par waar hue. Zameen phat gayi, asmaan nigal gaya.
#Prem- Ouima, seeta aur geeta.
#Amar- Go go ji, aapka ghaghra.
#Gogo- Kya namaste namaste. Daawat par aaye ho kya?
#Gogo- Thaki tiki thaki tiki
#Teja- Aare tu hoga re koi goga. Patte mein peesu aur game tu jeete?
#Amar- Balki mein to keh ta hu ke aap purush hi nahi, maha purush hai.

Cracker of a movie. Total laugh riot from start to end.
My fav is:
“Gogo-ji aap ka ghagra”
But I had the loudest laugh when I saw…
” A Rajkumar Santoshi film” at the end
this is the only movie that starts with a line like ‘hai illa…juhi chawla’
who cud have imagined tat an aamir movie would start with such a dialogue and tat he would mouth such a line as the first shot of the movie

i absolutely love this movie yaar. saare dialogues are amazing.

this movie has absolute gem dialogues. it has eased its way in our daily conversations.

Uncle- “chal chal niche utar .. .. Godi wale ..”
this scene was HILLARIOUS.

And the scene when amar prem go with the maiyat ka chanda..just before tht…Amar, lagta hai uncle naihn aaye…chal chalte hain, subah aayenge.

The best one:

When Gogo trips on his own ‘ghaghra’, he turns behind and tells Amar Prem “Sambhaalke!” Ha ha!!

and did u see that amar prem haath uthake gogo ke peeche chalte hain. and after that when gogo has to climb down the ladder, either amar or prem says “gogoji aapka ghaghra” to which gogo replies “uthata hoon”. hilarious line.
Andaz Apna Apna is what you call the power of good cinema.Even though it was an average success when it was released,it has achieved a cult status now after 15-16 years.Same with Chupke Chupke by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.Among the recent films we can say the same about Abhay Deol’s Socha Na Tha.

Hands down the most hilarious Hindi movie in the history of its cinema. I will not even attempt to write more dialogues down. I’m scared I’ll end up writing the whole screenplay here. Also love the comical sound effects in AAA. You don’t really notice it while watching but they give the scenes an extra kick.
*matlab jahan kainchi chalti thi khacha-khach khacha-khach khacha-khach wahan ab churi chalegi khata-khat khata-khat khata-khat?
* han bal bhi kat gaye aur pata bhi nahi chala…
