Harishchandrachi Factory PosterHarishchandrachi Factory has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars!

Congratulations to Paresh Mokashi and his team on their debut feature leaping right into the big league!

In case you missed reading the movie’s reviews on PFC… here’s the first one by Gaurang and another by Salik

Mokashi in an interview mentioned he is gearing up for campaigning for the movie, after he gets it released in India (the movie hasn’t released yet).

For those interested, please put in your promotional strategies in here so we can pass it on to Paresh and his team. Perhaps you are aware of the do’s and don’ts, perhaps you know what others in the past did or did not do. Please feel free to put your tips on campaigning for the movie in the Oscar arena here.

  9. congrats to the team of HF! I am fortunate to be associated with the film in a very remote but tangible way. one of the actors of the film, Mr. U S Lagoo (cousin of Dr. Shriram Lagoo and bro-in-law of Reema Lagoo) is my colleague at office, and a close friend, who has just mentioned that HF is getting released in maharashtra (8-10 centres) in Novemeber. Lets do our bit for promoting the film…

Hearty Congrats to all those who are part of Harishchandrachi Factory.

Its indeed a pleasant surprise. Head Line in Maharashtra Times of india given me this news today. I feel its kind an advantage for the movie that its not released yet and still being selected as an official oscar entry. We can exploit this opportunity to the fullest. However I feel all major dailies havent reported about this. ( Fail to see the same in TOI although its there on the website.) From my experience the newpaper reporting is always the first to trigger the chain reaction of creating awareness/intrest among indian audience. Suppose we divide the indian audience into different media through which they fetch news, then print should be at the top, followed by television and last but not least is where i am posting my comment ( internet). Film faternity and movie buffs like me would surely use word of mouth. There are so many petty things ( petty because it doesnt need money, lot of time and resources to execute it) we ourselves can contribute to the marketing of this movie. Its very much unfortunate on our part that on one side we crib about movie makers for not marketing a movie to an extent, but on the other part we are not playing our role. When a viewer google a movie title ideally he expects at least three links for it, wikipedia.org, imbdb.com and youtube. All these are the public encyclopedia and public themselves can contribute. I have created pages for Gabhricha paus on wikiipedia and for valu on IMDB. I urge all viewers to also write into these public forums for this movie. I do agree this anyway is done sooner or later, idea is to have it quickly done. Reporting on several other portals which viewers reads actively is must.

I wish this movie would come back with flying colors in its oscar journey.

All the best and hearty congrats.

Problem : I’ve just been told that the Oscars condition on all movies is that they have to release in the US for a minimum of 7 days by September 30 inorder to be eligible for an Oscar nomination for next year.

Not sure how correct this info is, but Paresh and his team should immediately look into this.

    • looks like foreign language films don’t need a US release, but certainly should release in India before Sep 30.

What you say is correct. i checked the eligibility criteria on www.oscar.org. Mokashi needs to be told that, this 7 days criteria is cruicial. I have tried to inform him through a friend. Hopefully this movie passes this technicality of requirement of 7 days for commercial purpose.Else they have time till tomorrow to release it for 7 days. Please do all possible at your end to pass this message to Mokashi.

I hope this nomination gets this film some play here in the US, ideally before the Oscars ceremony, even if it does not make it into the finalists’ list of five or ten.

If any of you knows – or is – the person who made or produced the movie, I hope you’ll see if the movie can get to New York for one of our big Indian film festivals in the fall, either South Asian International Film Festival or Mahindra Asian-American Arts Council Festival.

I’m hoping the festivals themselves will go after the film if it wasn’t submitted.

PS am I right that India overhauled its way of making its choice for its foreign-language entry? I remember a ruckus over the choice of Eklavya, and I have read many articles in various blogs and places imploring India to give more attention to its great “regional” movies.

Anyhow, if they did do it differently I won’t be surprised, now that I’ve read a review I think this is a great choice. It sounds like the kind of movie the Oscars people are likely to understand and appreciate. So congrats to whoever picked it as well as to the makers of Harischandrachi Factory.

    Hi all,

First of we would like to thank everyone at PFC for their amazing support to our film. We, as everyone in India is, are thrilled at the prospect of having to showcase our film in front of a larger global audience, and we will leave no stone unturned to get as close as we can to final 5 nominations.

    A small clarifications:

We were / are aware of the Academy rules, and we have had a 14-day run in December 2008. It was a small-scale release, but it was one nevertheless. Now with the great response that we are getting to the film, and with the Oscars on the horizon, all of you can look forward to a grand release at a much much larger scale. We are itching to bring the film to a national audience, and we will very soon. Keep reading your newspapers. But well, PFC will be the first to know anyway!

Thanks from Paresh and the entire team here, and thanks for your wishes and support. We need it..!

    Cheers!

    - Team ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’
