Indo Pak Film Series In Long Beach,CA

Hi Folks,
Wanted to announce this first in PFC (written, verbal is already announced)- SAAFA is presenting the inaugural Short and Doc Indo Pak, film series, on Friday, March 30, 2007 (from 5 pm onwards), in the beautiful Southern California city of Long Beach (the city with the largest number of scriptwriters and the Queen Mary).
Along with the showcase of choice short films and docs from India and Pakistan, we will also have on hand the folks in Filmaka. As a group we don’t believe in idealistic “bak bak.” We are all about “show me the money…rokta nahin to kuch nahin boss.” This is where Filmaka comes in www.filmaka.com The company formed by filmmakers and producers (Deepak Nayaar, Mahesh Mathai, Colin Firth amongst others) actually selects, from the short filmmakers, that in whom they see a lot of potential and pretty much gives them all the breaks required to make it in the world of filmmaking.
Representatives from Filmaka will be assessing the films being displayed on that day.
In case filmmakers from PfC would like to submit their shorts (and are confident of their quality, cause the SAAFA co-founder Pooja, trained by Barry John and batchmate with Manoj Bajpai in Theater Action Group, is ruthless when it comes to quality, sob stories about how you struggled or raised funding have no bearing on her assessment of quality) please go ahead and send in your stuff and do mark on the envelope “PFC” cause amongst all the groups and blogs out there, this one has the highest rage for perfection and zero self pity (i.e. my kind).
This is for ALL shortfilmmakers on this blog, even our desi based bhai and bhen’s ( actually I am single- and they ain’t my sisters will not allow them to become sisters, so let me rephrase) all the male and female filmmakers who are also based in India/Pakistan too.
You never know, your journey to Oscar greatness could be from right here, right in PFC
Sincerely,
Vivek “I’m not about festivals and Oscar’s, but no reason why you should not be” Kumar

Hi Vivek Ji,
This is the first time i am on passionforcinema.com though i had heard a lot about it from my friends. This is a very good site of yours.
I am currently in a small town of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh India. I have produced a short movie about the sad-state of our havaldars and traffic police. It is about how meagre their salary is and why they take bribes and how there livelihood was affected when CB Naidu came up with a ridicoulous rule.
This idea was narrated to me by an upcoming Film Maker and i instatntly liked it. So, i alloted him small budget, out of my naive’ity i thought the movie would be of high-class, but when i see it i am not too proud of the quality of the movie. Believe me though that it is a very good subject and I as producer has done whatever i could. I wanted to ask you, even if the quality of my film is too bad but the idea is very good, can i still send it?
Please consider this request. you can reject my film if you dont like it, but please give me good reason for it, so I as a producer can work on it for my next movie
Thnaks
Truly
Sudhakar
Hey vivek, I have a short film but it’s quality it’s genuinely marred due to lack of funds…I really struggled a lot to complete the film….. But the end product is not very good…As in, it’s shot on a hi8 cam, the sound is out sync, and the quality is a bit blurred….But its very close to my heart….shud I send it? Pls!
Sudhakar – Please do send it, as indicated I will put it in front of the assessor of quality (Pooja Bhardwaj , the co founder of SAAFA and let her decide). She may be hard, but she is also all for the underdog, provided the underdog is good. Please send it to 709 San Conrado Terrace, Unit #3, Sunnyvale, CA, 94085, USA. Please send DVD
Also no “ji’s ” please, I don’t say to others (inlcuding my elders in my family) so me being called make me very uncomfortable:)
Chaitanya – Likewise, by all means send it and I will put it in front of Pooja and let her decide (same address and DVD format)
Also guys this site is not mine, it is of course a fantastic site but OZ is the one who deserves the kudos for it and STRIKER for introducing me to it
Thanks for the info Vivek. Will inform my friends
