MUMBAI: The Indian Film Company Limited (IFC), which raised Rs 4.45 billion (£55 million) on AIM last month, has made further investments totalling approximately over Rs 97 million (£12 million) into six film projects, which will be produced within the forthcoming year.
As was first reported by Businessofcinema.com, one of these films will be titled Loot and is budgeted at Rs 120 million (Rs 12 crores). Loot will be a co-production between IFC and Suniel Shetty’s Popcorn Entertainment.
With the addition of these films, IFC now has 20 films in its portfolio and has committed approximately 60 per cent of funds raised on AIM at admission.
Loot directed by Ranjneesh Thakur will go into production in August 2007. This will be followed by Masquerade directed by Kundan Shah and Fruit N Nut directed by Kunal Vijayakar, both of which will go into production in November 2007.
For 2008, IFC will be rolling out Bombay Velvet, which will be directed by Anurag Kashyap; the remake of Chashme Badoor directed by Onir , and a further production in 2009 to be directed by Priyadarshan. Except for Loot, which the company is co-producing with Popcorn Entertainment, the other five movies will be solely produced by IFC.
India International Film Advisors Pvt Ltd CEO Sandeep Bhargava said, “We are very pleased to have invested in these six projects, which are exactly the sort of diverse and varied films that we envisaged when we joined AIM. Most of the projects are at an advanced stage of pre-production with casts in place or short listed. We therefore expect to soon be able to provide shareholders with a good idea of the kind of returns we can generate.”

Clearly the landscape is changing and now the “outsiders” are becoming part of the focus and good for all, the filmmakers, the production houses, the audience, etc
The pressure now will be on the “outsiders” to continue to maintain their focus, least they become too comfortable.
Indian cinema is changing for sure and so in Indian television. The only thing that is regressing is the Indian news media.
Guess you can’t win all!
Sincerely,

vivek, thanks for the post but someone has already posted this on the message board a few days back:(
Oops!! Thanks for pointing that out Suchita. Clearly my running between Corporate America, First Film Development, Writing Script for Sharmishta Roy’s directorial debut (theater), organizing events, maintianing some sort of a personal life and posting on Passion For Cinema,it catches up sometimes :d, or more than sometimes…good catch
oodi baba Bombay Velvet produced by IFC…good…good
This is some good news, hearing all new directors…:d/ :d/
By the way, three cheers to all at PFC for the 1000th post!
ha ha Vivek I can understand, thats some profile…varied facets you have..great!! writing for theatre..sounds interesting!!!! am too writing writing writing..its catching on me too:d but I guess film writing ad theatre writing are quite different, aint it?
by the way came to know about your filmaka thing in mumbai.I believe you are involved in it:)
Theater is more dialogue writing Suchita and hence a challenge from the visual writing in cinema. Also it is an opportunity to write for Sharmishta (she is as demanding a director as she is an Art Director) a very down to earth person. Actually one of the reasons I staunchly defend the Yash Raj camp folks, like Sharmista and Shibani is because they are very secure and helpful people, at least to me and I did not even know them until 3-4 years back.
Also made my debut as a “public writer” for a musical I wrote in the Bay Area last year and it palyed to two shows packed and back to back, so feel good doing another one, but probably the last one, then it will be writing screenplays all the time (of course with my Corporate Job and my other aspects….)
Meanwhile keep writing, as Rajat Kapoor says, Mumbai has a million stories waiting to be told, so let it roll….
Yep Filmmaka is up and running in India and good for new film aspirants, we need more of these in India!!
thanx Vivek, it was great to know you….would love to see some of your wrok..perhaps soon
Question for PFC- for my research, who is the most
credible box office numbers reporter in India?
