(This is an announcement I am forwarding for the benefit of those interested):

Miniaturization is in vogue. Huge cameras on trolleys gave way to smaller cameras being carried on shoulders, which in time gave way to digital handicams. But the invention of cameras on mobile phones has revolutionized everything, and even filmmakers have begun using this format to create works of art that leave one astonished.

The large software created by people using this format has inspired the launching of a special competitive International Film Festival on Cell Phone Cinema.

The Second International Film Festival on Cell Phone Cinema, organized by the Asian Academy of Film and TV (AAFT) under the patronage of its founder Sandeep Marwah, is being held this month, undoubtedly inspired by the success of the First Festival last year.

The entries for the competition are in the field of fiction/Music Video; reality/electronic News Gathering; and Still Image. All entries have been created using mobile phones. The entries had to be original and not infringe on any copyright law. The stipulation laid that the entries should not exceed three minutes each.

The entries received from various countries are being judged by an international jury in New Delhi. The winners will be given $ 2000, with $ 1000 going to those producing Fiction / Music Video, $ 500 each for Reality / Electronic News Gathering, and Still Image. The Nominees in the three categories will be awarded with a participation certificate. The runners up will receive mobile phones.

The Winning Films will be screened at New York University – Tisch School of the Arts Theatre

Cell Phone Cinema is an ode to the progeny of wireless telecommunication and a creative salute to the advancement of Graham Bell’s innovation. The festival aims at extending the opportunity of creating and capturing images and videos through the simple use of our everyday pocket companion, the cell phone. It marks the advent of a new form of creative expression, that which is simple, basic and affordable and very convenient to use.

The festival is being sponsored by Rajshri.com, Batchbuzz.com, 1takemedia.com, Dragons Lab, Producers Guild of India, Shivkala Motion Pictures, Time Services Broadband Limited, Cafe Coffee Day, and Mgurujee.
