IPL Theme Song
The Great Indian Tamasha, “Cricket ka SharmYuddh” has finally begun… Infact its two days and three matches old already.. The box office collections of first two days is quite encouraging for the organisers, franchises, players and for almost everyone who is involved in the carnival of cricket..
You might ask what Cricket and IPL is doing on the PassionForCinema frontpage and I agree.. it a complete out of the context PFC post, a wrong place to talk about it.. but then today bollywood is finding itself in a wrong place.. in the stadium on the cricket ground, not in cinema halls.. on Friday none of the hindi films got released due to IPL opening. The music directors and singers are busy in composing team anthems, the costume designers are busy in designing the dresses for the cricket teams, the stars are busy in giving company in the pavilion to the Super Stars organising the great tamasha.. Some of them even got the opportunity to be a “Brand Ambassador” of a playing team… Some of them will Sing, some of them will Dance during the breaks, some of them will even perform Stunts..
The Cricket is definitely taking the center stage in the circus, but with never seen before real life screenplays like bidding of the players and never seen before supporting cast like music videos, fashion designers, cheerleaders, the stars and super stars… Cricket is being sold as a complete entertainment package (minus the Sport ofc). Was Cricket Never Been So entertaining? for a passionate cricket fan, the game has always been much more entertaining, no matter its a test cricket, ODI, T20 or even the challengers trophy between India A,B,C teams.. This larger than life IPL format is not going to contribute to the excitement and sporting factor of the game for sure and totally wiped off one of the most important driving factor “the patriotism”… Where is my country dude? where is Team India in the game? kis team ke liye mera dil dhadakta hai? Kisi ke liye nahin.. Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, Chennai Superkings? These are just NAMES for me and honestly I can not bind my association with them on any biological, geographical or cultural factor…
Money is a great doctor, the same players who were not deemed fit for playing One Day Cricket, did not participated in the T20 world cup for the nation would be on display at IPL. Money is a great arbitrator as the same players of India and Australia who were not seeing eye to eye, will huddle in the same circle..
As every team in IPL is busy recording the Team anthem, and media and franchise are singing “aha aayee pee.el ki bela dekho aaye”, It took me just a few minutes to pen an IPL Theme Song (with Advance apologies to Poet Neeraj for distorting his fantastic piece of writing.. Sorry sir!) :
Ae bhai zara dekh ke khelo
aage hi nahin pechhe bhi
daayein hi nahin baayein bhi
oopar hi nahin, neeche bhi
Ae bhai!
Tu jahaan aaya hai
Wo tera desh nahin, team nahin,
gali nahin, koocha nahin,
dhandha hai,
aur pyare, dhandha ye ek circus hai
aur (BCCI ke ) is circus me,
baDe ko bhi, Chhote ko bhi,
Khare ko bhi, khote ko bhi,
naye ko bhi, icon ko bhi
actor ko bhi, player ko bhi ko bhi,
khel dikhana paDta hai
aur Franchise ke ishaare par,
ishaara jo paisa hai
tarah tarah naach ke dikhana yahaan paDta hai
player se joker ban jaana padta hai
haan baaboo, ye circus hai teen hisson kaa
pehla hissa player ka,
doosra hisaa franchise ka hai
teesara BCCI ka hai
aur usake baad
maan nahin baap nahin
desh nahin, team nahin
kuchh bhi nahin rehta hai
rehta hai jo kuchh wo
kaala kaala paisa hai
kaala kaala baazaar hai
kaala kaala dhandha hai
kiya cricket ka kabaada hai
ye game na tera (player) hai, na mera(fan) hai
To me this version of cricket is as lousy as this song

these days they juse let anything to be publishe on PFC.
Frustrated sportsmen are IPL owners and frustrated authors become writers on PFC. Nahin pasand hai bhai to mat dekho naa.
Rextreme, two suggestions: first get yor facts right. No sportsperson is an IPL owner. Second, follow your suggestion, I’d you don’t like the post don’t read. Don’t show your frustration here.
@ prashant
how do u think someone will like or dislike a post without reading it………..
as for IPL : to each his own…
personally i think its good fun…..
IPL is high on entertainment quotient..
similar to the superbowl in the US…
and u cannot seperate entertainmnent and bollywood in this country
as a cricket lover I don’t like IPL (in fact T20 in general)…but I think IPL and ICL has a potential to boost domestic economy…look at NBA, NFL in US…they generate huge revenue and job opportunities and that too at domestic level…
kaala kaala paisa hai
kaala kaala baazaar hai
kaala kaala dhandha hai
——-
How true !!!
Well i dont think IPL is too bad. If u leave out all the entertainment tamasha and stuff, the 3 matches played so far have been good. We had excellent innings by Brendon McCullum and Mike Hussey, and Old Fox Glenn McGrath, still shows us the virtues of line and length.
Also i think National Team and league team are two different concepts. When you can cheer for Man U or AC Milan or Real Madrid in the Leagues, and Brazil or Argentina or Germany in the World Cup, i dont think it should be a problem to do so likewise here.
Also if you look at the average cricket lover discussing IPL it is more about the game and the players. The entertainment factor is secondary for many.
@PAVAN
dude where you have the total right to express your opinion and i respect that let me state mine
THIS IS GOT TO BE THE MOST CYNICAL POST I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS HERE, WHY JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING IS POPULAR, MAKES MONEY AND IS DAMN ENTERTAINING , ALL OF US HAS TO CRITICISE IT??? THIS IS BOTH TRUE IN TERMS OF SPORTS AND CINEMA ALIKE.
sorry for the caps
p.s- i am a cricket fan and i’ve watched every single match played in the eden gardens since the 1996 world cup semi finals when i was 6 years old.
i love test crickets and never miss a game even if the stadium is half filled but that doesnt stop me from enjoying the IPL
2 hrs from now am going off to THE EDEN and am going to have a hell of a time, along with a million other people, i just hope that by then you can shed your cynicism and join us…… :):):):)
@prashant - I have to read to figure out the content of a post since I have not been given divining powers as yet. Frustrated sportsmen are those who used to play sports or wanted to play sports or even imagined they could play sports, or even those who bet on a business as a sport. The real sportsmen play the sport. Cutting down the length of our national wastetime can only be good.
superman srk is learning kirket also…..
he is practising with k jo.. farah..sajid nd gang… like he made six packs abs….:d
if his teams kriketers dont perform well…he l play himself…
khel ka khel with heavy dose of entertainment:d:d/
Profound - very profound. I think in most free countries entertainment is a voluntary activity.
those local club weren’t artificially made. it were made by the community. the community supported the clubs. there is an attachment.
where as Indian Premier League are franchisees, not clubs. no attachments or strings. none of the supporters have any loyalty towards the franchisee. in fact, the Indian Premier League format is not like a Premier League format, by miles! It is more of a World Cup format. So that comparison is all bullshit.
IPL is all artificially made and ‘Bollywood-ized’.
BCCI should have invested money in our domestic first-class league. then, you would have seen some real fans supporting their clubs.
And can you tell me why is the sport shown by an Entertainment/Film channel and not by a sport channel, in India!?
Actually city based franchises abound in major league sports in the US and their matches are always shown by regular channels. Only the less important games are shown by sports only channels! The idea is that sport can supercede other forms of entertainment in the viewership it commands.
There will be real fans supporting these clubs just as in major league sports in the US, but two days into the maiden season is hardly the time to judge that.
@Rick
I envy u dude, sitting in Eden Gardens, cheering for Kolkata Knight Riders, i am sure the noise would be deafening. It has been my life’s dream to watch a match live at Eden Gardens.
Regular/Open Channels showing sports, yes, I can understand that. But Sony Max, a filmi channel showing the sport, I cannot understand that. IPL is packaged as a Yash Raj Film Festival! Not a cricket league.
And hardly cricket was played in last IPL games. Unless you think hitting four and sixes is everything about cricket. Flat baked pitches, short grounds… where is the competition?
srk has given 1 year to kriket… in 1 year generalk election ll b over.. who ll b in govt. ll b known…it ll b known if rajjiv shukla… kind of srks godfather in kriket ll b in kriket board or not…
:d
if kongress loses election nd bjp forms govt. srk ll leave kriket..nd ll start singing praise of lk advanis writing skill
yash chopra ll make a video album on advanis book nd srk ll act in that:d
@HG
I dont think it was just 4’s and 6’s. We had some excellent bowling from McGrath and Maharoof against the Rajasthan Royals, too? And we are just 3 matches old. And for me the Chennai vs Punjab match was competitive itself.
And no i am not a Neo Cricket convert, i have been watching cricket since 1984. For me Tests, ODI and T20 are separate entities, and makes no sense to compare one against another. The best way is to look at each individually.
I would rather watch a T20 on a flat baked pitch, than a Test Match. Honestly if you keep making those sleeping beauty pitches of the kind we had in Chennai against the S.Africans, that will make people lose interest in Test Matches aurtomatically.
In India perhaps? But not all over the world. I had to pay per view and Sony is making money hand over fist on the telecast rights. Why does it matter which channel as long as there are viewers? Unless you think the spectators watching live matches or those watching it on TV had wandered in for a film show. If this were packaged as a Yash Raj Film Festival (do they have those? Do I sense some smug denigration of YRF?) then they would have done away with commentary and played YRF music all the time.
I think IPL matches are exactly what we expected after 20/20. I would take flat pitches and 4s and 6s in a game that finishes chop chop, over this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Li5yYstabWQ
Do the two competing teams not play under the same conditions? I thought that was competition.
@krishn - there is a world beyond SRK you know - you have to seek and you WILL find it! In a free country owning a team is a voluntary activity too.
nope 4 indians nd india there leaves no space if srk is launching xomething… he is everywhere…
u cant c world beyond him.. he doesnt allow:(
There is a little device called a remote control and it has a mute button and, this is key, it has a power off button…….
I agree a pitch like Chennai should never be used in any form of cricket.
rextreme,
it does matter. since the league is being shown by a film channel there is an extra taamasha attached to it. it is not promoted as a game but as an entertainment. where as a sport channel would have promoted it as a sport and would have shown the competitive side to it. the league would have a bit more credibility attach to it, imo.
the league is plastic. and the league… is a circus where players are the animals and BBCI/Sony are the master with hunters.
What competitive? Do you think bowlers have an advantage in this sort of pitches or games? Don’t give me an example of Delhi v Rajashtan game.
rextreme..
cmnt 2..10…21..23…
split thoughts
The Great Indian Tamasha,
ye kriket hai khel 20 over ka….
fine batting nahin
yahan dhobi pachad ki jarurat hai..
ai bhai jara naach ke khelo…
jara thumke laga ke khelo…..
pehla over fast ka
10wan spin ka
20wan under arm
yahan sab seting hai
ai bhai jara naach ke khelo
janta ullu hai
ullu ki pathi hai
paisa fenkegi
jara naach ke khelo
:d:))=))
@ HG….
i think SONY MAX started out as a support channel..to SONY to accomodate cricket…..it wasnt started as a movie channel..if u remember the ICC world cup 2003…was telecast on SET max with kapil dev and mandira bedi as presenters…….ultimately it became a movie channel….as it had the contract to telecast only ICC events tht too till 2007……
i agree with u about the tamasha bit…they take the credit for getting the noodle strap wali Mandira Bedi into the expert room….and the rest as they say is history…
@A Just A (1)
I second your concern… its as painful as BCCI letting bollywood stars running a cricket team..
@Samrat (2)
If it is entertainment and good fun, why do franchise avoiding the “Entertainment Tax” factor? They should pay entertainment tax but then the franchise consider it a sport?
@Vikrant (5),
Exactly! The franchise and BCCI will definitely grow on economy aspect. but does that translates into country’s economy? Also this kind of cricket is already encouraging the batting of different type, the betting… do you think it would be a great exponent for the economy.. It has already attracted even the students who are now making/loosing a lot of money on betting in IPL..
@rxtreme and Rick,
I think if you are attached to cricket for entertainment, you should have no problems if it becomes as entertaining as WWF, with matches being fixed or played on scripts for entertainement? What if the two franchise decide the fate of a match.. afterall its business of entertainment.. do you rule out that possibility in future..
and I still fail to understand why Sachin, Saurav, Laxman, Dravid didn’t make it to Twenty Twenty world cup for the country, while they can play the same for a businessman?
@HG, Hasn’t cricket been a batsman’s game for a long time now…?
, btw sad coz I support RSA). What was the best thing about that match was its extreme competitiveness. The IPL T20 doesn’t take away that competitiveness, does it?
Are you against ANY form of Twenty20 (T20 worldcup/series/league and even in league, all those UK/AUS/WI/SA club matches) or JUST against IPL?
I agree the entertainment issue being a problem… But a simple solution is to watch the match (the playing time, I mean) instead of watching all that extraaaaa innings (which is what I do, I mean skip the pre-match stuff).
If you have a problem with purely a batsman dominated game… then by extension you would have hated the Aus v/s RSA 434 match… I personally think that was the best match that I have seen (followed by the tie at the world cup 99
Would both Pavan and you be fine with an IPL minus entertainment? If you complain about the ‘fake’ fans of cricket (i.e. the non-experts of the game) being excited about the game, then that is a different issue…
@Pavan, btw they(Sachin, Saurav) said that they wanted the younger guys to represent the national team in T20… I think, they haven’t represented India in a T20 game… This ofc is money minting thing… What is wrong, if they want to earn more… There is nothing as ‘playing-for-the-nation’ jingoism or anything here, rite?
I personally wont like to watch a fixed match (atleast not after knowing that it is a fixed match) because it takes away the unpredictability of the game… There would be no difference then with a movie…
Btw, isnt T20 doing to ODI what ODI did to Test?
@Samrat and @HG I personally loved ESPN/Star Sports’ coverage of the games… But, if you were to get the same guys (Sunil Gavaskar, Harsha Bhogle, Geoff Boycott) to SET, I would probably have no problem with the telecast channels… Basically, I think, you (HG) have a problem with the hosts, more than the channel… (Ofc you can argue that it is the channels that decide, who to get as hosts…)
Whatever the #$%& happened to the “PASSION” of “CINEMA” of the bloggers at ‘passionforcinema’. Apparently this is a “very hot topic’ that needs ‘exception’.
@rbehemoth,
Nothing wrong with the format as such, unless it takes over other forms of the game.. The “once in a while” Word XI vs Others matches, happened in the past were exciting news to me always and has nothing wrong in format to me.. But IPL has started on a wrong note.. The Selling of Players and Franchise like Ambani’s and Wadia’s and Malya’s and SRK is the most unfortunate thing that has happened to the game.. Also the regular frequncy (the franchise would make money.. so would like to mint more money regularly.. similarly other boards trying to replicate it) is not a good news for the game of cricket.. Its gonna go monotonous in a short span of time…
Out of context post ,what’s this got to do with cinema ????

On an another lighter note, Mr. Mallya is cashing in.. Recently I&B ministry banned Surrogate Ads (quoting Royal Challange too) and Mr. Mallya has named his team Royal Challangers with keeping the same logo of RC..
sorry for repeated posts above ,browser got screwed up.
Sorry Vineet,
I should have put it like this..
Today Director Priyadashan was seen at the eden gardens in official knightrider attire cheering for the Kolkata Knightriders, not for Chennai, as Shahrukh has given him work in Billoo Barbar..
That should be a news related to Cinema.. isn’t it?
but honestly..
apologies for all the incovenience caused due to non cinema post.. I had the same amount of pain watching Sharukh/zinta running a cricket team as you had watching this post on PFC.
I thought, would not be commenting anymore in this thread but Aaj Tak’s news headlines just forced me to do it..
Jeet Gaye Shahrukh ke Gunde!
what a torture… %-(%-(
pavansaab….ha ha ha….
get a life.. are you anyway related toSubhash gay jha…then i dont have to read any of your posts. as it will be nothing but personal rant. IPL is waste and tamasha, Abhi - ash shaadi is good for entire mankind..see i just started understanding your motive :).
The broadcast I saw on pay per view had none of the hoopla pre or post-game, just the game. In the break between innings I saw a dead screen - i.e stadium shots only. If this was being sold as entertainment and not sports why would they not show the “entertainment”?
Is there a ban on non-sports people owning a sports team? I think the IPL detractors on this forum need to stop being koop-manduks and take a look at how ownership of sports franchises operates in the West. A software engineer like Mark Cuban can own the Dallas Mavericks, Marge Schott (a lumber baron’s wife) owned the Cincinatti Reds. So why are Preity Zinta and Shahrukh Khan banned from owning a team if they can afford it? And owning does not mean running the sports end of a team - an owner hires a coach for this purpose. The IRONY is that no one is complaining of Rupert Murdoch’s son, a foreigner (GASP!), being part owner of an IPL team.
@pavan jha - why should Priyan cheer for Chennai? Is he obligated to by virtue of being a man from those parts? Does that mean every Bengali all over the world should only cheer for Kolkata no matter what? In fact again a look to the West will show that in addition to a “home team”loyalty base, there are often loyalties tied to players, to previous domiciles, and to just plain liking a team for no explicable reason.
IPL is a new phenomenon for India - that is why so many folks seem to have got their knickers in a twist. It is not that different from sports in other parts of the world. And it seems to be successful and will set a trend for similar leagues and ownerships in other sports.
And I tell you - that test cricket was deadly dull and boring. Those who loved that and want it kept inviolate better start praying NOW!
I think Shahrukh ( and Preety ) have realized that they are finished as far as “Acting” in the film Industry. They are stars no doubt but no more actors.
So they must have started this new “business”
entirely IMHO
Just as Amitabh realized he was finished with acting when he started ABCL and also hosted KBC? IMHO PFC is populated with people that have burrs up their behinds when it comes to certain main stream actors and directors.
1. Anurag Kashayp is revered but no one likes to talk of Anurag offering No Smoking to SRK!!
2. The Roshans are reviled for “plagiarizing” (even though they made an honest attempt to buy the music for that Krazzy 4 song), but Anurag Basu is revered for making a plagiarized film Metro.
Double standards abound - but it is a small little pond after all, so no worries.
=45

i think same…priety has backing of nes wadiia nd she is learning business…srk is backed by politicians..
srk nd preity ll remain in films becoz they get fame there but yes actingwise both r almost finished….
acting has becum part time for them.. sad they dont c end of sunil shetty…
today no difference betwen mimicry artist nd srk..both perform with less acting skill….
how i wish either srk gets so big success in ipl business that he leaves films 4ever
or he gets so big loss there that leave all business nd cum 2 films as an actor…
at present he is nothing but corrupt actor…nd polluting acting profession…
i used 2 like him but not anymore…:(
Ok to all those doubting about IPL, yesterday’s games should have been an eye opener. Neither the Kolkata-Deccan game nor the Mumbai-Bangalore Game were about 4’s and 6’s. In fact the Mumbai Bangalore match was as competitive as it gets. Both teams fought hard, there was some brilliant bowling by Zaheer Khan and Shaun Pollock, and excellent batting by Pollock, Uthappa, Kallis and Boucher, what else do you want? I care a damn if it is T20, or 50 overs or Test,as long as there is a competition going on. Yesterday match was what competition was about, it was a touch and go affair till the last stage. And even though the pitch in Eden Gardens was a minefield, it was a sight watching the batsmen scrap and survive in what turned out to be a Mexican shoot out. Honestly the quality of cricket was as good.
I love Test matches too, but surfaces like Chennai or Adelaide are going to kill the interest. At the same time i loved the Tests in Perth and Kanpur. Regarding entertainment part, yeah Sony Max coverage sucks, but you have an option of shutting off the entertainment part and watching only the matches. Or else better follow Cricinfo. IPL is here to stay, thats for sure.
rextreme….
i read in anurag kashyaps blog that he studied in same college in delhi from where srk also did grad….
a.k might b considerate 2 help srk so that he could ve atleast few films 2 show 2 world….
a.k might ve thought to use his star power 2 get funds…nd who is not illusioned initially….
and srk is knee tal b4 amitabh bachchan. ab did abcl in early 90s when srk didnt know how 2 comb his hair or how 2 speak b4 camera;)
today Matches start here in Jaipur
IPL and T20 are not going to affect cricket. But fiascos like last years World Cup Tournament and meaningless Test matches on dead pitches, and equally meaningless ODI series against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe for teams to get an ego boost, are surely going to affect.
rextreme do u work for sajid khan? only few ppl in the world can defend srk as an actor… nd u seem 2 b one…..
its a small family of flaterers;)
Also by harping endlessley on SRK and Preity, are u guys not giving em more importance than needed. None of the people following IPL care a damn about SRK, except manybe those supporting the Kolkata Knight Riders. Please get out of PFC, go to some of the blogs on IPL, and the discusssion is about cricket, not about Preity or SRK. Yeah maybe the media is giving em importance, let em, we all know that no sane and sensible person would take the Indian media seriously.
————
how i wish either srk gets so big success in ipl business that he leaves films 4ever
————-
Krishn…mujhe lagta hai ke pehli baar aapne kuchh samajhdaaron jaisi baat kii hai :p ( kidding ofcourse )
1. When Amitabh did ABCL he was finished in acting, right? Because why else would he go into business? And ABCL did finish him as an actor for a long time. In fact it took a Yash Raj film with SRK to bring him back into acting! Every younger actor at some time is a baby compared to an older actor - it is strange but that is how time works - it is relentlessly linear.
2. LOL at Anurag giving a break to SRK :-)) Some people have overactive imaginations. We saw how much of a break he gave to John. John could never act and still cannot!!
3. PFC berates item numbers and there is no mention of the item number in No Smoking. Why? Double standards.
4. I see no mention of the Anurag Basu adulation at PFC for his heavily plagiarized Metro.
5. I suppose Anurag Kashyap now wants to help Johar and that is why he is writing a script for him.
6. Acting in movies is for one purpose - to tell a story that the audience understands and relates to. If they do, then they come and watch. Otherwise the rest is like a home movie that your friends are forced to witness.
Are the majority of PFCers so in left field they do not see the reality of life? In fact a man with money should do his best to invest it wisely for posterity. That is what Amitabh tried with ABCL. But running Miss India/Universe pageants was a noble cause and IPL is NOT!!
Agree with 48 - IPL is here to stay, love it or hate it! If you do not like the entertainment then it might be time to find another sport and nurture it with an equal amount of passion.
Also by harping endlessley on SRK and Preity, are u guys not giving em more importance than needed.
———–
Ratnakar…you are so right man. I will stop discussing their filmy and other output ( current and future ) entirely. I promise. I had done so for a certain music direector who was a sensation for a year or so recently and I would follow the same for SRK & PR. Thanks for the timely advise
@53 - cricket ki baat hi kahan hai - yahan to guilt by association chal raha hai! Do these people even care about cricket? No! They care to harp more on SRK/Preity as if that is enough to vilify IPL.
@52:
‘extreme do u work for sajid khan? only few ppl in the world can defend srk as an actor
Is PFC the place where everyone starts a topic that is even remotely connected to Bollywood ,should we discuss what underwear Shahrukh wears next ,as far as IPL is concerned ,it’s Shah Rukh’s business proposition ,nothing else ,since he has money and brains he thought of investing here, yes his bollywood charm is part of the whole package like everything else in India.
But that doesn’t mean we start discussing cricket in PFC.
agree with rextreme……….
PFC is turning into a leftist bastion where people live in their own universe ,creating castles in the air ,drowned in cynicism ,criticizing anything for the sake of bashing……..nothing else.
And many bollywood actors are certainly better than what they are thought of to be……they do stupid movies on purpose because they know that intelligent cinema has no takers in India ,and that I think is quite intelligent in itself , for example if someone has only seen Mithun’s B grade flicks and not the ones where he has received National Awards he/she will certainly think of him as a B grade actor.
But we all know what he is capable of ,again this is not a maths formula ,so it doesn’t apply to anyone and everyone in bollywood ,there are certainly many star sons and daughters who are just plain dumb ,but there are many who do stupid movies on purpose .
hi true guyz,
pfc has become a centre of cynics, frustrated losers…any rubbish gets published.harldy people talk about the aesthetics of film making …all that we hear is cribbing…
Brave heart ….you visit pfc so u r a part of pfc so does that mean you are a frustated loser ….dude there are many other posts about aesthetics of film making go through the archives…if you don’t like the topic just don’t read it …..how hard it is to not read ?? tell me one website where you find filmakers openly interacting with ppl like you and me ….and if you have a point to say about films you are always welcome through iview …..
here comes a defender…anand i use to visit pfc regularly when there use to be good stuff…not regularly any more…and just interacting with filmmakers doesnt do any good to any one…its purely become a self promoting business.
Brave heart …There are lot of good posts from authors other then Filmakers……
rextreme,
abcl was not cricket. abcl was prodn house 2 make films.it was a gud concept 4 films
ab is reviving it again.
everybody takes time after loss.
he was not supported in business as srk is getting from bcci’s official and politicians;)
ABCL ran the Miss India/Universe Pageant. How that is a more productive exercise than IPL cricket is beyond me.
Amitabh was always supported by politicians - hell Amar Singh is part of his family now, sits between Amitabh and Jaya and calls his house Aishwarya!! I have a reality check exercise you can perform for your self. Go and check out how many films got Entertainment tax exemption in UP, who acted in them, and did they deserve exemption? Bunty and Babli deserved a tax exemption? What about Guru and Sarkar?
Amitabh’s long and now soured association with the Gandhis, his close links now to Amar Singh and party, his UP land scam - only a blind can fail to see these.
So no one is above and beyond using influence - but the intelligent and savvy can make their business ventures succeed - like Red Chillies and Kolkota Knight Riders, the non-grounded have their ventures fail like ABCL.
I still do not see what this has to do with cinema other than an excuse to bash Shahrukh and Preity. Get a life guys and stop having double standards!
And it would not hurt to look at what people are really watching and talk about how to improve the quality and content of popular films.
@Pavan jha
u tell me how many people in this country love to pay taxes. people are always out there to find new ways of evading taxes….
so srk’s not wanting to pay entertainment tax shouldnt come as a surprise…
secondly the entertainment provided by IPL has got more to do with the cricket than srk or the other stars…and the country’s law has a tolerant view when it comes to taxing a sporting event…
and tell me which sport in this world is not seen or played as a source of entertainment….
IPL is not that bad as it is made out to be…
Hg suggested that the BCCI should have done something about the domestic cricket..
well i feel IPL is the best thing that the BCCI has done about domestic cricket…
one can easily notice the disparity between the no. of domestic level cricketers known to the people pre and post IPL or ICL to some extent…
Getting in cricketing stars from around the world has definitely increased the viewership and the competition.
otherwise when would a ASHOK DINDA who has not played a single ranji match for bengal get to bowl to the likes of gilchrist and symonds…
such experience would obviously help in their betterment….
and one factor which has been completely neglected by the media and everyone else is that every team in IPL can have only 4 foreign players in a match..
the rest of them have to be indian and some definitely from the under 19 team…..
thats a masterstroke by the BCCI…..
some people also have a problem with srk or preity owning a franchisee……well if the franchisee is up for sale..anyone from roadside ramu to srk has a right to stake claim if one has tht kinda money…
if a roman abramovich can own a chelsea y cant a srk own a kolta knight riders..
it may be all for minting money…but its doing atleast some good…
wat started as an IPL discussion has become a bachchan and srk bashing premise…..
xtreme….
u r talkin abt ab’s political connections….
dont forget that the one to get srk in the inner circle of the bcci is no one else but rajiv shukla….
but i dont think this shud matter…anyne who has influential connections will obviously use it…
and let me remind u tht AB brought his company back on his feet from dire staits…
remember..it takes a lot to succeed but it take a hell lot to fail and succeed….
Of course AB brought his company and himself back on his feet - with a lot of bailout from the politicians and the film fraternity. He did politics, he owned a company, he hosted TV shows. I was merely drawing it all out so that the SRK bashing would stop. If Mr. Bachchan did it then it cannot be so bad can it? And as for bouncing back - no one should forget the falling of Dreamz Unlimited after Phir Bhi Dil hai Hindustani and then the rise of Red Chillies from those ashes. These are savvy men, who have stayed on top and successful because they have something of value - it is a lot of intelligence and a lot of star power and charisma.
But the purpose of this article was to ignore anything Amitabh did and bash SRK for doing the same. I was pointing out the double standards - as evident here as they were when Anurag Basu’s Metro was being praised and Roshan’s Krazzy 4 was being vilified!
People get only PFC or what to complain & crib.
No Good articles these days..
IF they are earning money then whats bugging you?
Anyway IPL is a Indian Profit League.
or Idiots Premier League.
So it will collapse soon.
“Anyway IPL is a Indian Profit League.
or Idiots Premier League.
So it will collapse soon.”
But of course, like all other ventures that make profit and thus have to collapse!
ipl= idiots paisa looto:d:))=))

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w4hsYahasQ
he can match hollywood stars by all means…
he is traditional nd ultra mod at same time
“he was following self taken short rest from movies”
Biggest joke on this forum! Self imposed as in no one likes a middle aged man to keep playing the same angry ‘young, middle-aged, old’ man all the time so get a new kind of role, SIR!
The analysis on which films were tax exempted in UP was obviously not done, AB glow continues unabated.
I think few people hate IPL because they are purists. They may be the same people who will hate remakes.
Few people will hate IPL because they hate SRK/Preity or likes.
Few people will hate IPL because they just love to hate what masses may like. Just to be different.
Now, IPL has started a new industry all together which is a good thing. Be it theme songs, music videos, merchandise. It is impossible to expect that all the goods will start getting delivered from day 1. May be in 2-3 years when IPL stablizes, you will see the fruits. When people will recognize the unknowns. I already know who is Dinda, Saha, Goel are.
And IPL, to start off, needed big names. Names who are popular and well-known. Thanks to SRK, KKR is the most well known team. People had a recall value because of Bollywood, money and big names.
Folks in PFC who are making movies, wouldn’t they want such publicity for their movies. Most of the movies get released and nobody knows about it.
So why this cynicism. Why this despair. Either you can change the change or be a part of the change.
Cricket as we knew it is in for a change. Here are a few snippets:
“England players should be able to play in the IPL because they should be able to pit their skills against their peers. Their presence would add to the event. But if England make a hash of trying to regain the Ashes next summer because they’re too knackered, injured or distracted by the IPL or other sundry Twenty20 circuses, they will find themselves ridiculed or, worse, ignored by the British public.”
http://content-www.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/current/story/347221.html
“CRICKET Australia will watch the Indian Premier League and England’s answer to it for clues as to whether a franchised competition would work in this country, and in the short term will increase the number of Twenty20 internationals in the home summer to three.”
http://www.theage.com.au/news/cricket/aussie-premier-league/2008/04/21/1208742851756.html
“Cricket administrators worldwide have a delicate challenge on their hands in the way they handle the electricity being generated by the Indian Premier League.
On the one hand they will need to capitalise on the vast finances and incredible global interest being generated by the IPL. ”

Shame on Preity and Ness, shame on Juhi and SRK and of course Ambani, Mallya, et al. for generating this jolt of energy in the staid game of cricket!
=76,

http://www.bollywoodsargam.com/bollywood_news.php?newsstory=415014439-2908151-0-latest-Tax_free_status_for_Bunty_Aur_Babli_angers_Congress_Bollywood_news.html
A look at the state’s entertainment tax records reveals that of the 30 films declared tax-free by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government, as many as 16 feature either Amitabh or Abhishek in the lead. The Congress alleges that special favors were being extended to the Bachchan family because Amitabh heads a film subcommittee of the Uttar Pradesh Development Council, chaired by Samajwadi Party leader and close friend Amar Singh. “One important criterion for tax exemption is that the particular film should convey a healthy and positive message to society. But, in this case, ‘Bunty aur Babli’ has a totally negative theme - use the wrong means to get rich and you will get away with murder,”
1986-1990 - one sort of hit in Shahenshah and one hit in Aaj ka Arjun, retirement announced in 1991 - NOT sabbatical!!! Collapse of business ventures, wife has to act in plays to make money, return to movies in character roles in 2000 in YRF Mohabbatein.
My prediction - SRK will get super success in IPL and then super duper success in films as he has every year in the past! Why? Because the viewers love to see him on screen.
Further prediction - my prediction has a better chance of coming true than some haters’ prayers!
79 and 80 - extremely redundant posts. Sometimes when one has nothing new to say except prayers it is better to say silent ones.
Has Passion for Cinema Become Passion for Cricket..
@ 81:
Good point, rextreme.
Positive predictions are way better than prayers (?) laced with hatred.
I am always surprised as why people pray for downfall of a person rather than their own upliftment. Crab mentality, anyone?
Korbo..Lorbo..Jeetbo..re !!!!!!!
(This was just for the effect!)
LOL! I have a theory - I think that if there really is someone up there, he/she is really hard of hearing, and keeps a mirror handy to reflect back to the sender all bud-duaa prayers. Maybe he/she can hear a few prayers here and there but most of the time spends time watching cricket!!!!
=81
that shows amar singh nd mulayam singh r partial politician like many other politicians….
b&b educates that dont follow thagi dhandha as its bad:d
rules were broken to allow srk 2 purchase nd construct a building behind his house;)
srk talked big when did chak de but didnt show interest in hockey
becoz..
1. his political god fathers r not there
2. money is less or no money is there
big b earns money from films nd ads nd adopts village in bhu affected from earth quake…
srk earns money from films, tours, dacing in weddings, ads nd now from cricket
only earning more nd more with no social service…
nd point remains becoz he is not a gud actor so he shd join business full time..
leave acting atleast.. produce films
^:)^
The sauce is the same, goose or gander. Amitabh’s land deal in UP is the same story all over again. Big B opens village girl’s school to get his shady land deals buried - BUT he does it in full public view on Amar Singh’s birthday!!! Other people do their charity quietly, which is the only decent way to give. When the haters become god then their wishes will certainly come true, until then the bad wishes will reflect back at them. I am reminded of what trucks in India say on their back bumpers - Buri Nazar Waale Tera Munh Kaala!!! Till then cricket, acting, shows, production, is all fair game for SRK and Preity and who ever else is savvy and brave enough to dream and I am glad for THAT!!

tsch tsch tsch
many kids when cant remain in arena… stars cursing others… nosy kids;):d
seriously it needs either guts or sheer foolish blindness 2 defend a below av. srk…
his fame comes from acting nd he is poor actor… so whats tere 2 defend him?
this is gud excuse abt charity… srk knows only taking.. he cant give 2 others…
insecure cant give..
he is follower of tradition where guys elope with girls 2 marry….
wahan bhee chorapan … ekdam immature….
all the best 2 ur bhakti… ^:)^
Whoa… do I see rextreme waging a one-man-war here?
I am with you… TOTALLY!
Actors cannot buy Cricket Teams? Why not??? Its a franchise… needs money… like Chelsea is owned by Mr. Ibramovich, Liverpool by Gilett and Hicks (maybe soon by DIC from Dubai)… They are not even from the same country for GODSAKES!!! And pity you talk about Actors!!!!
Fan support, passion??? this is artifical: Bull crap! IPL is all of just maybe 6 days??? How can you instill passion in something within 6 days… that takes time… rivalries are built.. not generated…
Not true form of cricket: Tell me what IS true form of cricket??? Its just the basics, if Football had been played over 5 days… some might say thats how it SHOULD BE, slow and strategic.. this is VIOLENT!!! Accept it or not, Twenty20 is here to stay… it is how the WORLD wants to watch cricket…
Death of Test Cricket: IPL never killed test cricket… a sport dies a natural death if it DOES NOT GENERATE REVENUE!!! Look at the state of hockey… there is nothing you can do other than GO THERE AND WATCH MATCHES!!! Rather than sitting comfortably in your seat whining about how true form of sports is dying… And by the way, I dont think test cricket will die… they will still be there… ONE DAYS HAVE TO STABBED TO DEATH!!!!
So there… and whats with the making profit is a crime bandwagon??? You do everything for profit… LIFE… runs on profit… Growth is profit… Education is Profit!!! You put some money or effort and you expect dividends… Gee… never thought PFC could be so skewed.
Average PFC user is very centrist with a huge standard deviation - leftist when it comes to policy and other people’s finances and rightist when it comes to personal issues!
What makes the world go around? MONEY!! And the average film goer, or IPL ticket purchaser for that matter, wants value for money and spends money where he/she sees value.
As for throwing mud at people:
“he is follower of tradition where guys elope with girls 2 marry
Hmmm….
But you will watch EPL,spanish league and support Man U or barcelona !!!
Now if you write that you don’t watch football then a great sports lover like you must have right to write against …..!!!!
My previous post was for the blogger…
@rextreme
These people are “leftist intellectuals”…
So they have nature gifted right to criticize anything related to popular film stars/producers/industrialists.
I went through the article… many of the comments too… and yet I do not understand the point behind all such farce!
And even after a virulent denial for participation into a junk like this, I have eventually ended up scribbling into the comment box to add to this list of countless gibbering… ha! probably the greatest paradox!
My solem request to regular/irregular bloggers- write movies!
yes Pavan @29
just read yest : link
