It was raining..Premiere of “Jane tu….

Just came from the Premiere of “Jane tu….”(wrote just after coming out of the premiere)…..Thanks to Ajay who called me to come to the show. It was raining …yes and also the raining of stars (the real stars )….the venue was PVR Goregaon and the people were everywhere…outside……..in the lounge….on the first floor..second floor….third floor..every floor was packed with people…the media…..countless cameras…..mobiles……there was flashes flashes and flashes…I entered with Ajay…just ahead of me the man waving and shaking his hands was Mr. Mukesh Bhatt…..Suddenly the crowd screamed . I looked back only to find out Tabu has just landed up. I kept looking at her until the lift comes. The lift carried us and we arrived on the third floor…..we entered into a long corridor…as we are entering we met Jaggu dada..(Jackie Shroff) (think he was leaving)…I shake hands with him. I was so pleased that I wanted to hold his hand for sometime but he was in hurry. The next was non other that Mr. Amitabh Bachhan….hmmm Sarkar in his formals…black no no it was blue..no black…sorry can recall nothing. ..got an opportunity to almost walk with him but sadly he has surrounded by his security guards all over…no hand shake no hi/hello…Now Rakhi sawant..the maximum bite donor….and there were reporters who are more that desperate for her words…..Behind her there was a women who looked busy than everyone else ….She was smiling, laughing, giggling and hugging with every step…after all she was the associate producer …. Kiran rao looking absolutely fine …the most happening person and why don’t she….the ground is preparing for her banner….and then the sky is the limit.. who knows..anything could happen….then I can’t recall who comes after whom….
Cut to
Inside
I got a seat and I occupied it…..I felt that the seat on my left is still vacant but some thriller was happening on right of me …yes…the man on my right was Agent Vinod…oops Sriram Raghvan..again the same formality-shake hands ….I introduced myself…he asked me if I write using my name in PFC or with some other men.. I kept trying to look here and there. I was looking back and almost jumps off my seat….A.R Rehman was sitting just behind me….besides him Prasoon Joshi was also there…Shekhar Kapoor was on the right of Rehman..means diagonally from me…The seat just beside was still lying vacant…..Just in front of my Seat Ritesh Deshmukh was talking with himself ..think humming a song…after two seats …means after Sriram…Yash Chopra was there in my row….aah….thriller and romance….darrr…..As the trailor starts somebody came in hurry and sat just beside me on my left….I was looking at him…he looks at me…He was talking to his partner..Rehman before taking his seat..as he finishes his conversation….I just hold his hand …“Mr. govarikar….myself…”. and introduced myself…I could not believe on my eyes that I was watching a movie with Asutosh Gowarikar..The national anthem started and as it finishes a voice came from behind “ politicians are standing ……this …country…” sorry Mr. Shekhar Kapoor to quote this but could not stop myself. Two rows back of me there was Mr Bachhan, Mr. Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor..Juhi Chawla, Subhash Ghai, Pratibha Advani, Diya Mirza…..The film started…meanwhile a ph was ringing every now and then…I was looking at Mr. Govarikar because every time the bell rings it disturbs the director most…I thought now it’s going to be happen..yes I Guesses right….this time the man’s phone rings and Mr Govarikar issued him straight warning “agli bar aapka phone nahi bajna chahiye “(next time your phone should not ring)….but the next time it came from another end and Mr. Govarikar almost screamed…”shut up………”…first time I was witnessing such a sincere audience… have read some where “only a good viewer could be a good presenter” …The film proceeds and we come to the Interval…was thinking all over that I will talk to Mr. Govarikar…but as the interval happens.. Rehman started to leave and this created a small discussion between the trio…Rehman, Govarikar and Prasoon…some more people joined them and they went outside….was looking at Mr. Bacchan…suddenly a very low profile man come to meet Pratibha Advani…It was hard to believe that he was Rajkumar Hirani….in his simple jeans and shirt…Again the film started after the interval..Mr. Govarikar became late so he came in a hurry. The film got ended and everybody clapped. It’s time to leave.. I was coming out ..was walking with subhash Ghai and Shekhar kapoor…Vidya Balan and many more are around me.. suddenly I felt that I was surrounded by twinkling stars all around and is gazing to them towards them alone from my roof…I came out, enters into the lift….there were three people in the lift..Me, Ravina Tondon and one of her friend…..I came out of the mall…the sky was clear but as soon as I came out it started raining..again it started a natural raining and simultaneously the raining of stars…yes the Crowd was still there ..waiting for the stars to come out. The queue of Mercedes Benzes again started to roll and the noise was still heard ……
As far as the film is concerned I liked the film. It’s a very fresh and youthful movie. a worth watch. Imran is so good..it works for me..

pardon my bucolic biliousness, dipankar, but i’m not entirely convinced that you have actually watched the movie, especially with all the glitterati around you! but, if you have in fact watched the same movie as pnu and kk, then what the heck are these guys complaining about? in any case, with one thumbs up and one down, reckon the balance has been restored on pfc.

    starry staryy night
a tom and jerry moment comes to my mind..
    stars chamking on Toms eyes!!!

  3. Arthi V on July 3rd, 2008 9:32 pm

Nothing about the movie…Just all about the stars…

  4. Tony Mera Naam on July 3rd, 2008 9:34 pm

Ok wait, so you liked the film? Or did you just have a good experience because of all those stars?

  5. Dipankar Giri on July 3rd, 2008 9:56 pm

ok wb…this was not my first premier…have watched many…but never compromises when it comes to the film….m not here to defend the movie….but yes i don’t think that it is not necessary that something should happen in every 3 minutes on the screen..here at least there were not cliches…what can u expect from these bunch of mumbai college students….parties…disco…theatres..malls..cars…sea beaches….where should they go and what should they do…should they stand in a queue outside an employment exchange…? or take an overcrowded train….it’s an ambience of a class (upper /uppermiddle class)…it’s their story…don’t think they ever bother about farmer suicides….kk and pinu ….ufff…….ye aag kab bujhegi…bro there is a story.. i felt…the writer in Abbas comes out in the scene when yuvika trying to cheer out imran…Imran blasted…” ye koi romantic chiz nahi hai..ek scooter hai jis par chadhkar ek middle class aadmi roz office jaata hai”….
wb- if somebody has not liked a movie that doesn’t mean that others should also feel bad for it.

  6. Dipankar Giri on July 3rd, 2008 10:07 pm

yes..There was a clapping at the last.. a natural clapping..not forced..n it included the praising hands of Amitabh Bachhan..Mr. Ghai’s eyes were dancing ..some kept silence…think some of them liked some don’t..it’s upto everyone.

remaining part of giris interview ;-)

As i was walking the stairs out of cinema hall i saw this small little girl trippling her leg i jumped and held her(after watching so many stars i too was feeling like a hero)..i cudnt believe my eyes it was amisha patel in my arms..It was like a dream straight out of a movie experience..We looked in each others eyes kinda love at first sight but suddenly saw a hand coming towards her she held it i cudnt believe my again(M goin to the optician asap to check my nos)..it was none other than hrithik roshan…But unlike in movies good things have to end..wihout an iota of thanks she left with hrithik leavin me all alone to drench in the rain

Blah bhlah blah …what kinda article has giri written can some1 explain its relevance plsssss

  10. Rk on July 4th, 2008 5:09 am

    @Dipankar,
Good reportage of an evening surrounded by so many film industry related people. In coming 2-3 days many posts will be discussing this and that and what not about the film “Jane tu ya na jane na” and then your post will look different.
Good to read that you sat besides Ashutosh Gowarikar and you noticed his irritation on an interrupting mobile phone. Its quite good to know that a director really wants to see the film when he is there and its not just to fulfil the courtesy presence because Aamir Khan has invited.
Nice article Dipankar. A different one.
and variety is the biggest charm in life.

  11. Dipankar Giri on July 4th, 2008 5:35 am

@ Rk..thanks ..that’s exactly was the idea to write this but everyone missed the pt..u got it…just wanted to create the ambience of what happened on the premiere of “jaane tu “. does we have any article today which focuses on “Wht happened on the premiere of BOBBY or SHOLAY or DEEWAR…”…no coz everyone wanted to write a review…n wants to talk about the film…today we miss those reports…it’s a gr8 moment for me…Aamir was standing himself at the entrance and welcoming everyone..Mansoor Khan was also there…

  12. kartik krishnan on July 4th, 2008 5:37 am

  15. Dipankar Giri on July 4th, 2008 5:43 am

koi baat nahi KK …hum saath saath hain…thanx a ton for this…

  16. Dipankar Giri on July 4th, 2008 5:49 am

@ indian cinema…it will look relevant whene u will make ur own film..for me it was not a regular movie watching experience..have seen the film with two great filmmakers of our times….if u can’t feel that it makes no relevance…

  17. Phoenixnu on July 4th, 2008 5:55 am

Giri…pareshan nahi hoon bus hansi rok nahi pa raha hoon. maine antakshari ke baare me aisa kab kaha hai. haan agar rajshriwala antakshri hai to sabke muh me cellotape lagana chahiye. raysaab ki film me memory game dekha hai kabhi ?

  18. Dipankar Giri on July 4th, 2008 6:13 am

memory game se problem hai ?…ye to hadd hai ..it’s only a device to show a relationship..it could be anything..imp thing is that the motive behind this device is working or not…u forgot how this device takes us to the wonderful car scene when aditi become jealous.. beleave me it resembles me the jeolousy of Rekha in “ijaazat” when she finds the ear rings of maya in Naseer’s shirt…it’s simple one line..”aurat sab kuchh seh sakti hai par apne hisse ka pyaar nahi baant sakti…” it happens and we forget the device..we remain with the jealousy of the character…abbas has maintained the basic storyline so i calls him a “ahaanikaar”…ab ray sahab kahan aa gaye beech me ? abhi ke liye unhe jara vishraam de den…

  19. Phoenixnu on July 4th, 2008 6:21 am

maine game ki baat ki. accha kah raha ho phir bhi tu bura sun raha hai. tu to alag tanget par hai. accha hai accha hai sab accha hai. plz de tali bhi dekh lena. love freindship jealousy sab kuch hai usme. kehna kewal itna chah raha hoon ki it all looked stupid n silly to me. tahts it.

  20. Dipankar Giri on July 4th, 2008 6:39 am

ye aapki problem hai ..aap jahan se dekh rahe ho wo aapko stupid lag raha hai…kisi aur angle se wo cute bhi lag sakta hai..it depends..college students to “summer 2007 me bhi the par uske scenes work karte hai? nahi… kuchh to baat hai iske screenplay me…waise aapko chhorkar lagbhag logon ko pasand aayi hai film…

Well Deepu, just few days back i had been to Bhandaridah and like my past rouitne, was taking a walk after the dinner. My four-year-old neice was also with me and the chatter-box that she is, she kept speaking about one thing or the other all through the walk, keeping me entertained. I just had to hyphenate her speeches with short yes and no.
What caught her fascination most was the moon in the sky which appeared to her moving with her and going everywhere she was going. At one instance, she found that the moon had disappeared behind the clouds. She asked me what had happened to the moon. I said that the moon was playing hide-and-seek with her and she started to hide herself behind me. She had walked more than a couple of kilometres in that way but she had no idea of what distance she had covered in the way. Only after she reached home, she realized that her leg was aching and slept after my sister-in-law massaged her leg. The next day she again wanted to go for the walk.
It might look out of context but what i think made the walks interesting for her was the game she played with the moon and not actually the walk itself. So go and watch the movie again Deepu, and watch the movie only. Not the crowd, not the audience and of course not the moon and the stars.
I know your capability to judge but the attention was not at the right place. So if you want me to watch the movie on your advice, write a review after watching the movie again. Otherwise, I will see the movie if my girlfriend agrees to come with me.
