Jab Nasha Toot.ta hai

“Jab Nasha Toot.ta hai
kitne tukade gire hain

Hosh chun.ne lage hum
hum bhi kya sarfire hain”

The song kept playing inside me, when I came out of the Cinema hall after watching No Smoking.. and it moved to my lips too while driving back to home.. (while others had “phoonk diye” on their lips) Unlike JG or MSFU, where the director helped me to solve the puzzle before I left the theater, here I found defeated by Anurag.. You won Bro.. but I took the puzzle home with me in an effort to solve it whenever possible.. I have not given up.. The challenge is not over yet.. A similar feeling was there 8 years earlier when I came out after watching Hu Tu Tu (My heart said its good while my mind was not satisfied) but I could solve the puzzle in its second screening.. With No Smoking, the puzzle is not very difficult to solve but the human mind (specifically of a PFC member watching a film like NS) works on so many conscious and sub conscious levels parallely while watching, it becomes more challenging to solve it.. I was not completely into it.. hence I failed to put the pieces together in last 15 mins or so.. for me the writer Anurag killed the director Anurag in last 15 mins.. but still I felt it was as courageous attempt and such courage requires Madness… I am sure nobody in bollywood could dare to even think of making such a film.. the fear of failure wont let them to even think of it.. and I am happy that you could carry on with your madness.. bravo man! I could relate (not equate) your courage and madness with Kishore da, who made a film like Badhti Ka Naam Daadhi against all the text books of bollywood..

My brother called me at 4.30 PM today from Pune and told me kya jabardast film banayi hai, it is just brilliant.. I asked dekh li kya? he said nopes abhi intermission hua hai and I am so excited to see this stuff so far that I am calling you.. I told him.. its not over as yet… just call me after the film is over…and at 6 PM I got a call as expected and also the sentiments that I had already expected from him.. He was a disappointed man and he too could not decipher the end.. but he didn’t cared to take home with him.. after all it was just a film for him..

But I will give it a second chance and may get failed again..but then it could be your defeat…

“The Trial” is not over as yet..

    Hi Anurag…

Hats off to you!…not just for the direction……but for the very concept of using an addiction to symbolize submission to the pre-existing system…losing the inner self…the originality….it was really well-fitted …..technically awesome….great screenplay…i liked the way the scenes were shot…the right things focussed at the right time….all in all….i think everything was right in place…especially the silence in certain scenes efficiently speaks for itself…..

One thing that i found impressive was the puns intended in the scenes n the dalogues.everytime i watched a scene, i tried parallelly relating it to what exactly could it mean in real life..

its a movie which would not be comprehensible for most of the crowd …coz nothing is direct …nothing is clearly evident…until one actually gives a thought to wats behind the scenes….

    hats off!!….

    Nims

While i sympathize with guys who find NoSmoking crap stuff… i believe Anurag deserves kudos for trying to be different
NoSmoking is like a breath of fresh air, which diffenetly created a new genre, even its the only film in it.
many might not be able to liomk the different facets&events in the storyline…but then it was meant to be that way….dark, with a lot of ambguity.
But the fact remains thatthis would be out of cinema halls as quickly as the events in the movie change,
    neverthless.Anurag…well done!!

I think this post needs to begin again when we’ve all seen it the second time…at least in me, there’s a strong urge to watch it the second time, stronger than the one I had it to see it the first time. The entire experience was so intoxicating that I felt like being on a high after a joint or two (even when I’m a non-smoker) and thus don’t remember what happened. Yes, it actually felt like I was being intoxicated….and I’m not yet come out of the hangover. I’m definitely gonna watch it again soon…feel like I’m getting an addiction, ironically for something which says “No Smoking”.
