jhoom barabar jhoom

aisa lagta hai ki shad ali ki filmen to ek ke baad ek badi hoti gayin lekin unka ilma usi anupaat mein sikudta gaya hai.SAATHIYA ki taazgi JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM mein sire se gayab hai.JBJ mein naach-gana hai.stars hain.videshi location hain.lak-dak set hai aur chamakdaar costume hai.bas, kahani gayab hai, jabki shad ali ne kahani ko badhane ke liye ANURAG KASHYAP aur TIGMANSHU DHULIA ki madad li hai.teenon hindi filmon ke yuva aur samajhdaar filmkar hain aur milkar aisi kahani likh rahe hain…TAUBA.
yashraj films ke banner se aayi yeh lagatar doosri sadharan film hai.film mein ek gana hai jhoom brabar jhoom…use AMITABH BACHCHAN gate hain…jab woh is geet ko gaate hue thirakte hain to aaspaas mein maujood log naachne lagte hain.nishchit hi AMITABH BACHCHAN is geet mein josh bhar dete hain, lekin sirf ek geet ki chashni film ko kitne meetha kar sakti thi.modern kaandeo ke roop mein AMITABH BACHCHAN prem ka alakh jagate hain, lekin film ke mukhya kirdar aur kalakar apni seemaon ke karan bar-bar ladkhadate hain.
apne dost aur rishtedar ke intezar mein london ke ek station par takraye ricky thukral aur alvira khan ek-doosre ko jahansa dene ke liye apne-apne prem ki jhoothi kahani gadhte hain.inteza ke un do ghanton mein hi woh ek-doosre ko chahne lagta hain.baad mein apne mangadhant jhooth ko todne ke liye unhe ek aur jhooth ka sahara lena padta hai.shad ali do kirdaar aur kuch prasngon ko lekar naach-gaane se bhari kahani ka tana-bana taiyaar kiya hai.yeh tana-bana itna kamjor hai ki ANURAG KASHYAP aur TIGMANSHU DHULIYA se madad lene ke bawjood kahani bun nahi paati.kya is baar bhi ANURAG KASHYAP maafi mangege?
jbj mein geeton ka filmankan achchha lagta hai.agar unhe music video ke roop mein alag-alag dekhen ya film ke gaane disco ya party mein bajaayen to jhhmne ka man karega.gulzar ke anokhe bol shankae ehsaan loy ka madhur sangit hi film ko sambhal paate hain.gulzar in dino os mein mint ki taazgi milakar geet likh rahe hain.waqt ki maang gulzar ko kahan se kahan le aayi hai?
abhinay ke lihaj se charon yuva kalakaron mein LARA DATTA baji marti hain.anaida aur laila dono hi roopon mein woh charitra mein dhalti hain.ABHISHEK BACHCHAN mehnat kar rahe hain.kai baar woh ricky thukral ke kirdar se chitak jaate hain.peity zinta ke kuch bure performance mein se ek hai JBJ.bobby deol nritya mein ramte hain, lekin abhinay ki sanjidgi unmein thodi kam hai.
yashraj films ki shad ali nirdeshit JBJ nirash karti hai.bharpoor sansadhnon, pratibhaon aur suvidhaon ke bawjood is sadharn film ke liye kisi ek ko doshi nahi thahraya ja sakta, leki chamtakaar samjhe ja rahe ADITYA CHOPRA ki soch aur packajing to kathghare mein aa hi jati hai.aakhirkar film marketting, munafa aur manoranjan matra nahi hai…darshak kuch aur bhi chahte hain.

Whatever goes up, comes down. *Anywhere*! See, I am definitely not one of those Yashraj bashers but I see the end for Yashraj’s arrogance soon. Unless, Aditya Chopra changes his thinking that only star power sells, even if it is a third grade script.

By buying out all the stars in the industry, they have created a big crisis in the industry. Producers don’t have artistes to make movies. Maybe this is a boon in disguise, atleast now other producers will make sensible movies and not depend on stars.

Aditya Chopra should understand that audience are not chutiyas. Give them beautiful hero and heroines, glossy locations and smart ass comedy, picture hit hain! Nahi bhai, phat hojayega.

I still don’t understand that why such a big production house can’t get good stories? Is there such a dearth of good story tellers in the industry? Or maybe the insiders have blocked the approach to every outsider and they feel all these struggling writers must be chutiyas and they own the official creative brains of the country, whatever the reasons, it is time they should first zero on the subject and cast accordingly.

In YRF, I guess pictures are made just the opposite way. Haan, we have Abhishek, Preeti is anyway there, throw in Bobby and Lara and get Shankar, Ehsan, Loy and now let’s think about a script.

When you actually meet these so called great people, they talk as if they know everything, and actually give you a complexion.

Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi, Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Salaam Namaste, Neal N Nikki, Tara Rum Pum, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, all have been a major bloopers!

I never liked Hum Tum, Veer Zaara bored me, Fanaa was illogical,Bunty aur Babli senseless, Kabul Express yuck, let’s not talk about Dhoom! Why can’t you guys get great stories that Yash Chopra previously was a master in?

u cant expect anything else from YRF. its excatly what i was thinking. yesterday saw audience’s reaction on news channels. n almost 80% people said they didnt like the film. thank god…thats a good sign. ok with tara rum bum bum, this year so far 2 wickets down. 4 more to go. Come on Adi,u can do it!! Except the title track didnt like any of the songs either. whats that song…kiss of ass, kiss of ass….stay away from kiss of ass. n i followed it…stayed away!!!>:);))[-x

JBJ is such a waste of great potential. The film smacks of arrogance and smug. The way Shaad Ali has made the film it seems that he expected the viewers to have read the synopsis of the film before entering the cinema hall. There is no story in the film. Nothing at all. If I want to see extravagant dances and costumes, I’d rather watch MTV. Why should I pay for such trash masquerading as cinema? I hope Aditya Chopra has finally learnt his lesson that rehashes of English films and mere packaging do not a film make. The guys at YRF have taken us for a ride many times, its time they stop churning out awful stuff like JBJ. Thoda original socho Adi. I’m sure you have young people coming to you with fresh ideas.

kahe gariya rahe ho guru.. hamra credit to yashraj ka prasad hai.. baaki kahani jitni lambi hai utni puraani bhi hai.. kabhi saath peeyenge to batiyaenge.. yeh bade logon ka ehsaan hai.. iske liye maafi kyon maangen..

main abhi abhi yeh movie dekh ke aya aur bhgwan ka shukra mana raha tha ki maine yeh movie single theater me 40 rupye matra me dekhi…tab bhi dil se galiya kewal yashraj banner ke liye nikal rahi thi…par abhi jab padha ki is paap me Anuragji aur Tigmanshuji(Jinki agli movie Tevar ka main kab se intezar kar raha hu) bhi bhagidar hai to yashraj pe gussa ab laghbag khatam ho gay hai…Anuragji yeh movie to Shaklaka Boom boom se bhi jyada kshamayogya hai

  6. MK on June 16th, 2007 12:17 pm

It’s not Anurag’s fault! Given a free hand, I am sure brilliant stuff would have come out..Imagine Anurag at YRF… Aditya interferes, Abhishek interferes, EVEN Bobby interferes, Director tho has no say…well…it’s good to take money and kato!

As I said before, I remember the story of Trojan Horse! If you can’t beat them, join them, finish them and then start making good movies!! All the best Anurag! I am waiting for your No Smoking. I just hope it’s no remake of any hollywood movie!

    anurag,
jawab to aap ko dena padega aur tigmanshu ko bhi.shad, aap aur tigmanshu ek bade perspective mein gunehgaar hain.aap teeno ne hindi belt se aa rahi nai pratibhavon ke bharose par pani pher diya hai.
JBJ samoohik apradh hai aur aap ismein shamil hain.SAMRATH KO NAHI DOSH GOSAI ke attitude se kaam nahi chalega.YASHRAJ KA PRASAD aur BADE LOGON KA EHSAAN anurag ko kathghare mein le jata hai.
KHANE KE AUR DIKHANE KE AUR DAANT ka muhavara suna hoga.mujhe uski yaad aa rahi hai.

just 1 question for anuraag.if ekta invites u 2 direct saas bahu will u accept dt PRASHAD?

  13. Abzee on June 16th, 2007 11:10 pm

Guys, I may be ganged up on for saying this, but I seriously loved JBJ. You need to get the movie for what it is- a smart, sassy and subversive take on every Bollywoodism that exists. YRF films have never had stories. JBJ is a triumph because it knows how inane it actually is, and prefers(rightfully) to never take itself seriously. This is the most fun I’ve had at the cinmas in a long time. I’ve never seen so many wink-nod allusions to the masala filmmaking style of the 70s. Manmohan Desai is a contented soul somehwere. Anurag has no reason to apologize. JBJ is one of the zaniest products out of Bollywood in recent times…its the film that Jaan-e-Mann wanted to be but didn’t have the guts to be. I’m glad JBJ is what it is for what it is!

  14. Abzee on June 16th, 2007 11:13 pm

And is it too much to expect civility on this lovely forum. I am all for nonchalance and colloquial informal language. But seriously, things just get a tad too crude in personal attacks at times. Sample this-
“Suneel Darshan ki le rahe the kyon ki woh ek independent producer ke taur per kamzor hai. Coprprate big dicks ke aage apna asshole tashtari mein la kar rakh dete hain. ”

    This is plain offensive.

  15. Anurag Kashyap on June 16th, 2007 11:33 pm

RKs- i guess sarcasm escapes you.. this film is based on a script “sangam mail” which i wrote four years ago before bunty aur bubli.. which in turn was based on a treatment by tishu he wrote when they were both assisting on DIL SE.. its a derivative on my script.. its the directors take on it.. i guess nobody got his take.. but yes i still stand by “sangam mail”.. it was a simple lower middle class story set in new delhi where the hero was from palika bazar and the girl from kathak kendra.. a love story set in Barsaati’s.. if they decide to take it to london and france its their problem, if the director decides to not make it a love story and make it a glitzy tribute to nasir hussain and manmohan desai .. its his choice.. as long as i am not credited for writing it when they don’t use my writing.. which shakalaka did.. credited me for what rajesh pandey wrote.. and you being provocative is not going to provoke me.. i spoke about what’s happening on this in a public forum before they even started shooting.. which was covered on Desi Train.. so be informed before you start to get all vindictive over what spoke to you about last time.. didn’t see you on PFC since, was it because you were not getting an oppurtunity to take off on me..

  16. ganesh on June 16th, 2007 11:36 pm

abzee, you must be drunk. how can anyone like jbj? I don’t think you will ganged but completely gang raped for saying that. good luck and don’t repeat that too often now. Yeah, galti insaan se hi hoti hai.

  17. MK on June 16th, 2007 11:51 pm

Anurag, I am now more interested in “Sangam Mail”, sounds damn interesting. I also have a simple love story, well…would you want to see my version? :)

  18. Amit Singh on June 17th, 2007 12:07 am

    @Rajesh Kumar Singh–
90% of ur comments are totally uncalled for , anurag deserves a lot more respect than that
i don`t care if he writes something to fit the needs of stupid producer/director to make money. why r u guys so hung up on one person changing everything and idolizing him to an extent that u end up abusing him …if u want to change things/system/films do it urself and then face the music !!!
its really getting on my nerve everytime a film which is really bad and somehow if anurag is associated with it , everyone around always says “ohh gawd i cant believe its ANURAG KASHYAP” who did this and there u go again….if u hve questions and issues try to address them urself ..if u think he did an awful job come up with something better ! if u want to judge him watch his films don`t look for angled writing credits and blame/abuse him for being flippant …

  19. ajay on June 17th, 2007 12:10 am

sangam mail ke jhoom barabar jhoom banne ki kahani important hai.pahle bhi isa hua hai ki yashraj ne doosaron ki kahani lekar film banai aur unhe koi bhi credit dekar nikal gay.DDLJ-honey irani,DIL TO PAGAL HAI-tanuja chandra,DARR-shekhar aur ab JBJ-anurag kashyap aur tigmanshu dhulia…

  20. ravi shekhar on June 17th, 2007 12:39 am

    sorry Ajay,
I am not intrested in jhoom barabar jhoom.
commercial cinema has out grown indian boundries- but most of the films fail to attract the audience.
we must learn to ignor such films and do soe thing else.
    enjoy

  21. Abzee on June 17th, 2007 12:40 am

Well said Ajay. It’s wrong to criticze Anurag for every bad movie he’as associated with, whatever may be the reasons behind them. and as such, he needs to do a ‘Main Aisa Hi Hoon’ every now and then to do the stuff that really matters i.e. ‘No Smoking’. Like Clint Eastwood says and practices, one must mix the commercial projects with the passionate independent ones. That’s the only way you can survive in any industry that deals with mass consumption.

  22. Abzee on June 17th, 2007 12:48 am

    Oops…I meant Amit not Ajay.

Ganesh- I don’t fear being gang-raped for sticking to my heart’s honest reaction. You can read more about my views on JBJ here-

  23. Justin John on June 17th, 2007 1:59 am

I did not watch JBJ. But many of my friends watched it and said that they enjoyed it. So if anybody liked it I shouldn’t say that they were drunk. Some people may like it. Some people may not.

  24. Justin John on June 17th, 2007 5:35 am

Is the story of JBJ inspired from “Brief Encounter”? And is Anurag’s script Sangam mail also inspired from it. I have also seen an old Hindi movie with the same story. Don’t remember the name.

  25. Mr. Bond on June 17th, 2007 8:33 am

I actually liked the first half but loved the second half. Abhishek was fantastic.

  26. sanjay malhotra on June 17th, 2007 10:05 am

Some films are made to tell stories and some are made to teach , some are made to tell history and some are made to entertain…And most of the films fail to do, what they were made to do. BUT I think JBJ WAS MADE to entertain and it solves it purpose, this film certainly entertains the audience, and I witnessed this in the theatre full of audiences in NJ.

  27. sanjay malhotra on June 17th, 2007 7:21 pm

    Ajay sahib,
    Films are ultimately entertainment bussiness…:d/
Har shabe-e gham ki sahar ho yeh zaroori to nahin.
Aur Har film ki kahani ho yeh bhi zaroori to nahi.

  28. Rajesh Kumar Singh on June 17th, 2007 7:39 pm

    Dear Abzee,
To hell with civility that, in a way, means suppression. Go for free expression. Let your views , the essence of what you are, be derided, obliterated, and killed by the civil society. Get subversive. Seek destruction of myths. All kinds of myths. The idea of excellence being the foremost of them all. That is the credo of an artiste. The class theorists invented the idea of civility and the rule of the law, to preserve and pickle their decadent lifestyles. But what would you say to someone calling JBJ a subversive film? That makes Aaditya Chopra and KJo as the great rebels of Indian cinema, ahead of their times yet with times becasue very soon the ads about ‘fifty crore collected worldwide in the first week’ will start appearing to prove that JBJ is a mega hit, as was KANK.

And thanks to the PFC Administrator for deleting my views. That only proves that Hindi words have greater impact and putting similar views in English would have been accepted as contemporary and regular expression. You cannot ‘pelo’ but ‘fuck’ you can. Now, this is just an illustration to make a point, dear administrator. ;)

As far as Anurag’s rejoinder to my post is concerned, it hardly means anything. The whole idea was to point out the obvious hypocricy in his approach. Instead of admitting it, he blabbers in defence of the indefensible. The manner and alacrity with which he tries to disassociate himself from bad projects is so shameful and unbecoming. He should have told the filmmakers that his name must not appear in the credits as he did not have faith in those films. It is such a simple thing to do.

And there is nothing personal in all this. We are discussing human fraility and foibles, and sundry other afflictions we all suffer from.

All said and done still BIG picture remains the same - Yash Raj will make money from ‘Jhoom..’.

They have a vision to make money…
    Its very simple friends.
    YRF has ‘identified’the oppurtunity..’discovered’ the market..’made’ the product..’distributed’it well..got the ‘cost’return…

Lets not make ourselves part of their’case studies’and matter of ‘research’for their ‘marketing’department as ‘consumer’of their ‘product’…

hope for the best for ‘nach le..’
    cheers
