Jodha Akbar : The Promo Trailer and your Vote

Oye Oye Oye… this could be a pleasant surprise. I’ll admit my hair stood out as I first watched this trailer on the big screen. I wasn’t expecting much, having labeled the movie in my head as a “costume drama”… but this seems to be heading way above my zero expectations from it.
Though a few weren’t excited, the trailer has had a magical effect on me at least. In short. I love it (and the background track gets my heart beats on bullet speed) . So will this be the next colossal opus from India?
Check the trailer out and shoot in your opinion about it. Vote below on what you think about the trailer.

Fuck fuck fuck… love it man!
Indian Cinema needs this… needs to make movies like this…
Take a bow Ronnie and Ashutosh! Take a bow!
nice video..absolutely loved it
@OZ
nice video…AG is certainly back with a bang after Swadwsh
wow Rahman’s beats are katilaana. When is the soundtrack releasing?
It was ok… not impressed
May be I should see it on the big screen..
Nothing new…I think both Hrithik and Aishwarya (isn’t she always?) are miscast…I have a bad feeling about this film…
How can one not expect much when its an Gowariker film. This should be great with him at the helm.
And I actually think Aishwarya is perfectly cast. Hrithik I am unsure about.
I second ur thoughts ML.
eagerly waiting to see the ashutosh movie.
trailor looks good.
above everything there is rahmans music.
Freakin awesome! The battle sequences remind me of lord of the rings! Hrithik is amzng! Ash, in Ashutosh Gowariker’s hands will hopefully b gd. Can’t wait till the movie releases. & yeah the music is spellbndng.
The trailor is beautiful….
Hrithik seems a little miscast as the real Akbar was a bulky figure of aevrage height. However considering his acting skills, he may make one overlook it.
Will not comment on Aishwarya Rai as I am perenially biased against her.
Mark my words guys, based on this amazing trailer, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s track record as a director, and Hritik’s superb acting talent and dedication… I’m here and now predicting it to be a BIG HIT and a VERY GOOD FILM… In fact I’ll go as far as predicting this to be a LANDMARK FILM in HINDI CINEMA.
Not much impressed…the feel of it being good comes from the soundtrack…esp the marhabaaa…and yeah Hrithik doesnt work for me…the fight seq with the elephant..he has a massive dhoom2 hangover there…
even if it is a love story, I think it will all depend on the battle scenes… I’m praying and hoping they are exceptional, though on the big screen the very first shot of the two armies racing towards each other, – a CGI – looked very unreal.
Trailer doesn’t seem to impress me, may be coz of my personal bias. First, Hrithik just doesn’t fit the character of Akbar. Second Jodha and Akbar never had this kind of relationship thats being projected in the film(Love birds type). Lastly, it has similar feel and grandeur of Kamal Amrohi’s Rajiya Sultan. Whether its better, can’t be judged from this trailer. So lot of things still remain to be seen. All the best to AG, his cast and co-producers.
watching the trailer first thought that crossed my mind was there is some religous scandal thats surely gonna come out of this thanks to junk media.
@ Oz
yes the battle scenes have to be really good, and you were spot on. it was CGI multiplication effect, used to abysmal standards so far in Indian cinema. I particularly liked the shot where the camera pulls out in one linear fashion from the two confronting armies.(reminds me of some recent period flicks from the Hollyland, not sure which ones)
But good or bad, I feel multiplication effect will be there for us to see; Gowariker’s fans
PS: I live in the US, and rang up Mahesh Aney, the DOP of Swades after my umpteenth viewing of the same. I like the movie way too much, for selfish reasons and thanked him for that. All I said was thank you very very much for Swades. He said he felt encouraged
As far as the Promo is concerned, Hrithick fails to live up Akbar in terms of Body Language.. Marahaba sounds good yet not exceptional.. All depends whether AG has selected the Best or the worst for the Promo..
Still keeping my fingers crossed for the film (moreover the music).. Who is that girl wearing the angarakha (helmet) ?
absolutely fantastic……….
besides the other actors…i think ila arun is the one to watch out for….
hopefully january wud be third time lucky..
after RDB and GURU
@oz..
i am amused u didnt have much expectations from this movie…..especially after lagaan and swades from the same director….
Awesome music…
Seems I’ve been proven slighly wrong on Jodha-Akbar issue… seems to be amazing movie and good thought to make it big, comparable to the movies like Lord of the Rings and Troy. Great work ASHU!!! now its upto script and screenplay which will decide the movie’s fate…
Wow! This is big! Aishwarya loks regal..The sets are fabulous. Seeems to have the necessary drama. And Boy! Hrithik is looking great as Akbar. This Voice modulation is fabulous. Far exceeds my expectation. This is Bollywood’s answer to Troy :-)
Hum hindustan to galat hathon mein nahi jane denge!!
Ameen!!:d
Amazing Asuthosh.. He may bounce back with this film..:-?
Well.. is this a war movie or romance movie? Seems like it is all mixed up.. if the war part is not handled carefully, it might just bomb..
Rest- soundtrack is too overwhelming..the images are good, but a balance was needed.
Aish is there for the obvious, HR looks like a real king.. not sure about the body language..
Baaki movie ke baad..:)
If Trailers can say a lot about film then this Trailer certainly does not promote Hritik as Akbar. He looks so stiff. even moving his neck so slowly as if in a trance?
Trailer shows (kind of dialogues used in trailer) that film is more about conflict between Akbar and extrimists of Islam and it looks like conflict between Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb and trailer simply does not throw a light whether its a film about love story between Jodha and Akbar.
In one waya Ashutosh has taken inspiration from NCERT (taken as proven history books) books and makes Akbar (Hritik) sit in the posture (Vajrasan) shown in the book but on other hand other things given for Akbar are sidelined.
Mughal-iAzam’s Salim did not allow people to compare with whatsoever image of Historical Prince Salim but Jodha Akbar’s Akbar may fall flat if Trailer is really represnting the film. Hritik’s Dialogue delivery does notz reveal that he has done some special training for this role.
KMG’s promos generated more curiosity.
Ashutosh is a big filmmaker. His cast includes big stars and people will certainly see the film but trailer does not generate any appreciation.
There can be dangers of type cast because its so borning to see Surendra Pal saying his dialogues in same way as he used to say in his famous role of Dronacharya in Mahabharata serial.
Its a confusing trailer and surely does not promote the film among audiences waiting for a good historical filmsmatching with [leave alone Mughal-i-azam] Tajmahal, Pukar (Sohrab Modi and Naseem Bano starrer).
Hope film is far better than this trailer and Ashutosh has used Hritik effectively.
———-It was OK not impressed———
Akbar was the first Mughal who actually felt comfortable in India and lived in plains like it was his home. I have a feeling that one of the love themes of the movie – a parallel love theme – would be Akbar
Ashutosh would probably bring a new perspective to the characters of Akbar and Jodha. In Indian cinema ,Akbar was perhaps one the earliest ’screen daddy villians’ but with that cliched heart of gold!
Should be a great epic movie, considering the time and money thats gone into making it.
Hollywood epics have always done well, 300 is an recent example. Hope our audiences lap it up,so that a dormant genre of Indian cinema can be revived.
oh I think (after disastrous Asoka)atleast now we’ll get a good historical film. and i really dont care about its accuracy if its entertaining enough. And it seems to be entertaining and interesting.
so unpretentious
salutes to ashutosh
rahman is having some serious fun here
cant stop watching the trailer again n again
So this is what the bastard child of Lord of the Rings and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun would look like. Lots of fancy battle scenes and fancy wedding ritual scenes. Been there seen that………..next.
I loved the trailer and can’t wait to see the film!!!
And as I have little idea about the history of Akbar or Jodha, I would appreciate some good book recommendations on Akbar so i can get up to speed on my history before I see the film…
t!, waiting for the P

problems already:
language – i’m no scholar on urdu and whatever version of hindi was spoken but why do the dialogues sound like any other hindi movie in terms of language and the mix of hindi and urdu. there should be more farsi words and more arabic and the hindi would be different too 500 years ago. Details, bitches!
sets – tacky. BR had similar sets 18 years ago
battle scenes – the only close up scene was hrithik in some lame ass sword fight that i saw in mahabharta 15 tears ago! if they are going to make an epic, they should have the money and show mee some real blood. where’s the mallet? where are the dying horses.
if they are saving the best for later, they clearly don’t know how to cut a trailer cos i was not excited one bit. they could have given one 10 sec bit on some battle awesomeness…
Lame. weak. Keechad ke pani se bhi pheeka.
From the trailer the movie looks like another lame ass bollyshit romance masquerading as a historical epic.
What is there to get excited about… is it the battle scenes which looks like middle aged office workers playing dandiya or the pristine looking streets full of folk modeling for surf detergent.
Where is the period look? Instead it looks like a daytime soap opera.. maybe that
GRANDIOSE!!
“travis – is it the battle scenes which looks like middle aged office workers playing dandiya ”
i rarely use chat lingo but this deserves it. lol.
Ridley Scott influnces:d
It looks to have the same feel as “Curse of the Golden Flower” directed by Zhang Yimou. SInce I’m seeing it 2 inches big I can’t tell if the CGI looks good or not. It looks pretty awesome to me and I really didn’t care about it till I saw this trailer. How can anyone think it looks lame?! The cinematography looks beautiful and so do the sets and costumes, but that’s just the trailer, maybe when it seen all at once it could turn out to be lame…..but I doubt it.
Why are some folks comparing the trailer unfavorably with big budget Hollywood productions? This movie probably had a budget of $10 mil vs $50 or $100 mil for those other epic movies being mentioned.
I think it good to see a more realistic setting compared to the OTT and gaudy settings that are normally portrayed.
My main interest is the script. I hope Ashutosh has a good story line and extracts good performances from his cast. But based on his last two movies (Lagaan and Swades) I have full faith in him.
I’d go see a Gowarikar film even if he didn’t bother with promos and all.
Those guyings beating the trailer to pulp, to me, are absolute cynicals. Had it bin done in a shitty hollywood movie, these same guys wud have welcomed it wid open arms and showered praises. And its just seems a fashion to pull down other actors except one’s favs. Y don’t these guys really view sometihng with unbiased and clutter-free mind. And i m not sayingthis only for this trailer. Cos this seems to be a case everywhere.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali should have made this movie…:d
director of photography – Kiran Deohans
his first film Qayamat se qayamat tak. second film Aks. 10 years gap. then kabhi khushi kabhi gham

I agree with RKSaab. And, I found it funny every-time I heard Hrithik or Ash say their dialogues.
Like many of you, I also was not sure how good CGI effects will be, but from promo it seems decent, so let’s hope it will be good enough in a Hindi film, finally!
Also, in the promo, they have showed Jodha praying Krishna? If that is the case through out the film, then that is sort of.. technically wrong… .. no?
You know, I had thought that the cgi effects and actors will mess up the film, but now I think, the actors will screw up the film, for me. Anyway, I hope the film is a good one. The cinematography looks good. The music sounds promising.
And, I cannot wait for the music! When is the music releasing?
- About Dialogues, how many of us know what kind of Hindustani and in what style was it spoken in 1400s? The closest we can compare to the delivery and the personality of Akbar is what the late Prithviraj Kapoor played Akbar (the older) in Mughal-E-Azam… that to many of us would seem theaterical… How about the personality? now the first Kapoor had a such a towering powerful personality I don’t think anyone else can come close in that aura created onscreen (perhaps Balraj Sahni or even Jayant in their own way, but not even Amitabh Bachchan). Maybe ten years ago I would have rejected it outrightly but lets give the actor and chance and see how the total performance turns out after the seeing the movie.
HG – Please explain why Jodha praying to Krishna is technically wrong?
There is no dum in what they are saying or in their voice. Check out the dialogue in the promo, where Hrithik in the darbar goes.. ‘Hum Hindustan…’ That was very weak! I do not think they are into the character. I know it will be impossible to speak in same form as people spoke in that era, but the way Hrithik and Ash spoke in the promo was stiff..yes, i cannot tell much from the promo, so will see the film, but i don’t expect….
As far as my understanding goes, Jodha bai, is into another form of Lord Krishna, which is Shree Nathji. And she does not pray the grown Lord Krishna, but baby Krishna. She is into Vaishnavism. That is what I know and I think, that is what was shown in Mugla-E-Aazam. And maybe this is also shown in Jodha Akbar, but it did not seem to be the case in the promo.
HG, Ashutosh worked with historians so I think they would know what is technically right.
Here’s an interview with the writer of the screenplay:
http://www.mumbaimirror.com/net/mmpaper.aspx?page=article§id=30&contentid=2007111320071113190334765f77fae08
They seemed to have been meticulous in their research.
Carol, I was merely asking, cos I am/was not sure if Jodhabai had been given the form of (Swarup) Madan Mohanji, for the seva. I believed she was given Bal-Krishna-lalji swarup, for the seva. So I thought that showing Jodhabai sitting in front of Madan Mohanji would classify as slightly… technically wrong. I could be wrong, but……. can someone clarify this?
And I actually like the fact that they have done a good ground research for the film.
Surely they could’ve written this dialogue better-
“Hum Apne Desh ko galat haathon mein nahin jaane denge!”
Any sepoy in any current war movie could say the same thing. I mean, make it sound regal at least, make me run for the dictionary, I don’t mind at all…
I am glad they have kept the dialogues simple and contemporary. I would not like to watch a film in some alien old lingo (spoken 400years ago) where I dont understand half the language. Simple hindustani with simple urdu would be the best bet for the masses to follow the film.
I hope Ashutosh has made the film keeping in mind the maases in the audience.
I am also glad he has taken Hrithik and Ash in film, since they connect to the masses..Kids and the youth out there. The paying public wants entertainment which connects and not a reserache docu-drama..For such enthusists National Geography or History channel are there..
Akbar is a powerful mughal-era, and if handled well this well has great potential as in Lagaan or Gadar. I hope Ashutosh has made his film universal, simple and lucid with great storytelling.
Hrithik looks quite different, look’s like he’s not a right choice for periode films, but he’s an amazing actor, he’ll sure impress us! As for Ash, well she’s been doing sush caracter over years, she’s perfect for the role, as it’s just need to be beautiful!
Actually the only thing that impress me on this trailor is ARR’s music!!! OOOOOO God, i’ve seen (listen) the trailor n-times!!! can’t wait for the audio-release!!!
after a long time indian cimima comes with a punch superb combination of hritik, asutosh and rehman but not ash
Oz
i agree with u .. when i heard abt this film being made with hrithik/ash , i thought ashutosh gwarikar had gone wrong this time .. but boy .. pinch me !!
this is GOOSEBUMPS stuff .. AWESSUM !!! i pray to God that this film turns out to be real good !!!
backgrnd music was awesome !!!
baki tareef (hopefully) pikchar dekhne ke baad :p
“aap yudh karke fateh karna chahte hain par raj karna nahi” Aishwarya’s dialogue delivery is as bad as ever.
Hrithik seems ok. What’s the halla about the music? this promo track is very ordinary.
anyway, lets hope for the best.
^^ haha right abt aishwarya .. her best effort to speak hindi seems half anglicized .. hope ashutosh has directed her well .. or she’ll just ruin it
i also read an article in stardust (yeah :p) it said that aish gave a terrible time to hrithik coz she wudnt get ready for her shots and kept chatting on her phone :/ lol poor hrithik
someone said the troops look like mid-aged uncles doing dandiya .. whoever said this needs to get an eye-checkup done !
