An excellent take on the Indian freedom fighter’s stuggle in the Celluar Jail of Port Blair and one of the best movies directed by Priyan.

i was just watching it on TV right now… i feel a renewed respect for Priyadarshan… that guy is an enigma… Kalapani such a nicely crafted movie. when i watched it now i could see the details that has gone into it.
@ Gopi- yes Priyan will always remain an enigma.
if you look @ the kind of detailing and the naturalness shown in Kalapani it makes you think if its the same Priyan who now is making the same kind of rut again & again in recent times.
Yes..Sethu.., I was also thinking about this ‘global film’ from Kerala. More than all the other ‘international festival shown’ films, i felt this was one of the best film from malayalam. This has all the qualities that we normally seen in holywood period films.Above all it is gripping too.
Hats off to priyan for this..
@ Arun- definitely do agree with what you’ve written.need more such films!!!
Well my one of most fav movie sof all time, probably priyan at it’s best aided by Lal again.
The subtle potrayal of patriotism, where all britishers every not evil and did not speak Hindi.
The shoe licking scene, this is one of those rare film which makes you feel patriotic, without any negativity towards anybody.
@ Cinemausher-
bang on.that shoe licking scene was brilliant, nothing OTT- very well shot.
