Khalid Mohammad wants revenge..

Hindustan Times i thought was a prestigious newspaper.. every newspaper resorts to yellow journalism and it’s fine.. they all write gossip to sell their paper.. they will write about A having an affair with B , and add everybody’s denial to it and it’s still fine.. we all know it’s gossip.. but hindustan times gives a lot of freedom to it’s journalists to settle personal scores and it’s sad.. shame to the Bhartiya lady who owns it..
yesterday in their gossip “under honey’s hat” page, they wrote ..
DHOOMRAPAAN MACHALE..under which they wrote that the trailors of No Smoking were pulled off because they went whoosh over the audience’s head, and i laughed , thinking the purpose of the trailor probably went over madhu moti or whoever the fuck honey is.. but then how do you explain to them that tne purpose of the trailor is to create curiosity and not meant to be understood but you can’t explain and there is no need to.. so you let it pass..
then today i got a call from another newspaper asking me if my trailors were pulled off for the same reason and i said
do you seriously believe it
yes
well.. isn’t that a good thing.. makes people curious..
but your own producers pulled it out
ha.. HAAA.. (i laughed).. why would or should they when they love it.. when more than seventy percent people who saw it loved it.. when cinemax and some more theatres are still playing it..
but someone told me..
who told you..
i can’t say that..
well you want me to reply then tell me who told you..
and he said “Madhu Moti”..
who is Madhu Moti my friend..
HE/SHE IS FROM HINDUSTAN TIMES,
so you are not hindustan times so why would she call you and tell you that..
i don’t know..
so sir mr. journalist why don’t you ask “Madhu Moti” about the details..
and i hung up the phone..that was in the evening and then i got another call from another paper asking the same question at midnight just before i sat down on my laptop.. and this time it was on a sms and so i replied via sms.. and then one of my friend journalist called me and asked me the same question and now i was aghast .. what a silly thing to believe..have the journos run out of stories.. and he named the same lady.. now i don’t know the lady, and i don’t know her source.. but my conspiracy theory mind started looking for answers and voila .. another call and same question..
and this time it’s a lady and on my asking why do you ask that?
she replies,”that’s the buzz..”
well, who gave you the buzz..
Khalid mohammad..
Why would he say that?
I don’t know, he told my friend and she told me..
she?
yeah
who is she ?
I can’t tell you but she works with Khalid..
Well, that’s it.. i don’t know who is right and who is wrong.. who is lying and who speaks the truth.. but “mera detective dimag ek hi baat kah raha hai” ..(to quote from Dhamaal).. woh hai ki MR. KHAMKHAH MOHAMMAD wants revenge.. for what.. i can guess if the reason is me..but what a silly rumour to spread.. Pratim Da kya bolte ho?

Any publicity is good publicity Anurag. I’m glad such a platform exists for you to reach out to the junta with your side of the story. You have to turn this story on its fuckin head & i know you will. You are one of the best out there. Start screaming FOUL at every freaking news channel. Take Kumar Mangat with you to news shows. Attack Khalid as much as you can. NO Smoking will get a great buzz.
Once a film is realeased, everything is forgotten & forgiven in Bollywood.

Now people will be more curious to see what the trailer is all about – what all the fuss is about. If they can’t find the trailer on TV, then they would google for it and land up on PFC or youTube it and still land on PFC. It is all good.
But in the process you would have to go through a lot of ridiculous questions, which would irk any sane person. And you can’t even give sarcastic comments to them, cos they don’t understand it or do not want to understand it.
They are just making a fool of themselves. And people who are going to believe that tripe, then they are doofus than doofus than doofus…. I say Let ‘em!

Although have never met KM,grew up reading his reviews in Mumbai and would do EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE, of what his review recommended and was a very satisfied viewer as a result. Then as my “hosh sambalofied” and I became a little introsepctive, realized that even my late dad, who was a double PHd from Germany, did EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE, of what KM’s reviews suggested and loved a lot of “bad by KM stds movies.” SO it was not only “basic” me. Then asked my “part time model” mom …she is more like me, even she found KM’s reviews only suitable for KM.
As I develop my first feature, I hope and pray, KM trashes it, cause then it stands a great chance of being a commerical success
Studying character and never having met KM, I can bet he is one of those elitest folks, who is very “I am above it all,” and like to spend my evenings having a cuppa of chai at “Bombay Gymkhana” I was and still have parts of me like that…so I know exactly what goes on inside . So apt to find that he is not firing on his own cylinders, but in true “I am above it all” methodology, firing from someone else’s gun…perhaps to settle a score.
No wonder I am and so are the audience, way “above it all”, even as fas as his films are concerned.
Have some real insite into the guy which I can’t share here, but would love to someday amongst friends or when cornered by KM.

Anurag .. Verrrryyy curious. What did you do to Khalid, that he wants revenge ?
L’u’st time heard, Subhash K Jha was plotting revenge on Sonu Nigam. 8-x

- turrtle… probably because of this:

@Oz ..
That must mean that Khalid does visit PFC ?
loading...
EVERYBODY visits PFC…some discretely, some not so….some comment..some are silent…the discrete,silent one’s are the more lethal one’s.
loading...
He he… I think Mainak said it. It will be a neat idea to create a hulla-boo on TV. Anurag, drop some atom bomb while on TV, like you did last time to that self-righteous YRF-lady. Go for it. :d/
Btw, be ready for more barbs as your film releases. They are ready with what-ever-they-have ?
loading...
its strange how these journalists work. they start thinking they can make and break people . psycho journalists :D
om prakash : curiosity makes me ask ..who self righteous – YRF lady? (well , everyone loves gossip!)
loading...
Yikes. This is paranoia-inducing, indeed. Do you find that fellow filmmakers and stars believe this kind of fiction, too?
So many more people earn a living by criticizing movies than by making them. You might be able to learn to be a filmmaker in a two-day course, but there are few places to learn how to be a good critic.
loading...
AK,
How about this? A day or two before the movie releases, write up a review on PFC that would resemble KM’s review in the HT. And then, we’ll see for ourselves what he has to offer in his review. If he says the same old bullshit that we think he will, then you stand corrected. If he writes a good review, you get a good review!
loading...
The reason I ask the question above is that the general public may not care why or whether your trailer was pulled from a few screenings. Could gossip about a trailer cause people to avoid a movie? I’m thinking not.
And what could be done to prevent more direct attacks (i.e. based on personal agenda and not a real critique) once the movie has been screened by press? It is possible for a director to protest too much, and the journalists in question are free to make use of that, too.
loading...
Ha ha ha ha ha ha…
There’s another buzz in town, did you guys hear it??? KM is remaking Mughal e azam ke Jodha Akbar… followed by Nachle Sawariya warna chunari main daag lag jayega…. aur nahi laga toh Sarkaar raj khatam ho jayega, aur sarkaar raaj khatam hua toh raat ko baith ke khoya khoya chand dekhna padega my brother Nikhil ke saath who is busy chalking out Vaastu Shashtra that he is making for Johnny Gaddar who believes in NO Smoking….
loading...
Good one Surendra!:)
loading...
oh it doesn’t make a difference either to the movie or the trailers.. which is why i say what a silly rumour to spread, and sillier if it is him.. it could also be because a lot of people assume the extent of problems between me and KM and just blame it on him.. but then it has already appeared in HT.. to mera detective dimaag yeh keh raha hai ki….ha ha ha
loading...
I don’t suppose you could add a ‘Publicity Co-ordinator : Assistant : Khalid Mohammad’ to the end title credits of No Smoking, with a winking Smiley?

to paraphrase GBShaw… reserve two tickets for KM for the premiere – ask him to grace the occasion and bring a friend as well, if he has one.
on a serious note, it’s hard to get the big picture with such a small mental screen.
loading...
Do you know guys that this fellow khalid was slapped by vidhu vinod chopra because he insulted vidhu’s wife anupama????
Anurag bhaiyya, i think you need to do an encore:d/
loading...
Anurag,Chalo isi bahane inko yeh toh pata chala ki trailer ka importance hai. i being a promo director feel happy ki trailer ke baare mein itni charcha ho rahi hai. Khalid baba ko life mein ab kuch kaam dhandha toh bacha nahi hai toh yahi sab karenge na.
loading...
Anurag I saw your trailer yesterday and it got me excited about the fact that our cinema is successfully breaking out of the mundane and is soon going to become a force to reckon with, as far as global cinema is concerned. And as for Khaala (thats what AB junior call her oops!! i mean him)he will continue doing this till he goes six feet under. But sad thing is that he will leave behind protege’s — No problem we will textually abuse them on PFC.

I think this Nilufer is behind the Motu Maid gossip column.
BTW, not all journalists are bad — celebrities, too, hanker for attention by the biggies in the media!!!

Tsk Tsk Khalid…Pen is mightier than sword…
But looks like your dick brain is mightier than your word…
You think your reviews create an aplomb…
But just like your movies, they too bomb…
Now shove your opinion up your ass…
And plug the hole from where you release your mustard gas…
Anurag always tells me not to comment on people’s sexuality…
But what do I do when I see some assole’s congenital abnormality…

Gossip is not issue.. noone takes motu maid seriously anyways.. but calling up all journos and trying to convert a gossip into a full fledged story is another thing..
It was posted also on Yahoo india and now it’s not there.. they pulled it off

anyways it is a silly story..infact it gives the film publicity.. he should come with something solid if he wants to get back..
loading...
even i read it a bit. but i think that section in itself is so ludicurous that i dont even bother to look at it normally. who cares about some madu mottu and her maid????
and as for KM. i think his reviews are quite stupid. i think they should have another column next to KM’s review column to criticise his crticism of films. its that stupid.

I have never doubted the sensibility of that man, unlike many comments over here..
I genuinely believe that there was indeed a time when he singularly had championed many a movies which cinema-illetrates like Nikhat Kazmi would have dismissed owing to her cinematic upbringing..
He was (in his own insignificant ways) to Indian Cinema reviewing what pauline Kael and Ebert have been to American cinema.. But, over a period of time I have seen him stoop down on his ethics and reviewing films purely based on the personal relationships he harbours with the makers of that film… I have seen him sing loafty praises and bring down others with crude intentions.. The Khalid Mohammed I grew up reading is now a thing of the past, dead and buried..
I dont think that people who have got to reading his reviews of late can ever get a taste of that man’s prystine understanding of cinema..
And just the other day, I read a Mid-day article which showed him pick Shahrukh Khan as the finest living Indian actor… And i know the funeral’s complete..
May the man’s ethics rest in peace…
loading...
Hey Anurag – don’t give a shit to anyone (and I am saying this at the risk of drawing the ire of my community of critics!!) and just go ahead and do the work you believe in. I have seen your Paanch and Black Friday, and most of us here have, and I know you can only get better. There has not been a soul who can satisfy everybody, and if you cannot satisfy a few jokers, so be it.
loading...
Anurag, everyone in the media and industry knows who writes that column in HT… So if the journos you mention saw that and called you up and took Mr Mohammad’s name… that’s a different thing… but what’s interesting is that he does not mention in your name in those two paras while every other name involved with the movie does. And that makes me believe that it maybe a case of personal vendetta being settled and if that is the case, it’s really very sad… while this is not the first time such things are happening in the Indian media but it’s high time with such good cinema being produced that some good film writing also takes place… to quote aamir: “telegraph in calcutta and indian express in mumbai are the only two papers which still do film journalism”. the rest do not apply…

Anurag, you seem to have a lot of fanboys. You were blasting all the stars for refusing your movie. Suddenly John Abraham was god since he was doing your movie. Khalid might have an agenda but you are no different. This ‘holier-than-thou’ and ‘angry-at-everyone’ attitude is getting old.

- We apologize to everyone who could not read the post. Anurag had removed the post due to certain developments at his end and his intentions to handle them in a certain way, because of which he best thought to clear this post. We are trying our best to see if we could get the post back in some modified form or the other and Anurag has agreed to that… but so far it looks that the data was cleared and overwritten with the current message… if Google has cached the post then that is the only way we may be able to get it back… sorry again for this.

@oz,
I read the post in the morning(India time) and wanted to comment on that immediately, but i could not due to lack of time, but I was thinking all day long about this and thought something sinister going on here and now this update from you….i understand the reasons behind this, as Anuraaaaaaaaaggggggg does not want this film to end up as some of his other films and being cautious here…fair enough….
Anyways, thanks for the update, oz, and keep the flag flying for a long time to come…

I am confused: In a post dated 17th dec,2006 John Abraham Just Wondering, AK comments about Khalid Mohammed not being Francois Truffaut…He is just wannabe…And same wannabe in his review of Black Friday in HT on 10th Feb,2007 writes:
Absolutely heart hitting..
It rocks because it’s real..
How the hell he do it? Definitely uncompromising, writer-director Kashyap has fired a salvo at the gutless powers-that-were who just laughed all the way to their cushy homes to watch the carnage on TV…
The docu-drama structure is skillfully employed that you’re gripped..
..But artistically and politically, Kashyap fills in a deep void..
From the first frame, the all-too-real drama is on..
Kashyap’s direction is unbelieveably mature and searching..
So there it is, the heart-rending Black Friday–compulsory viewing any day of the week..
Sampling these comments i don’t smell any vendetta..Rather a well doled out appreciation for AK’s work..
So what kind of revenge is this..
And if AK is taking offense to something KM wrote about John Abraham, then how does it become obnoxious..Let John handle it..Why AK should bat for him..i don’t know..and i don’t understand..i smell something deeper..who is playng games and to what end..can someone please enlighten..
loading...
@Krysh – Methinks Khalid “cannot” trash “Black Friday”, simply because his alleged vendetta would then become all-clear. “Black Friday” is acknowledged by one and all as a good movie. I mean, Khalid actually gave 5 stars to “Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham” .. which was like putting your foot in your own mouth or even worse, in your ass. He would not want to do that again.
Anurag is batting for John Abraham, because he does feel grateful to John for taking up ‘No Smoking’, when no other star-actor would touch it. What say, Anurag ?
Although, I am sure I would love to hear Khalid’s side of the story too.
@Oz – any plans for inviting Khalid to write on PFC ?
loading...
turrtle, I’m not sure Khalid-sahab would be interested in blogging. I’ve been told he only writes for money. But if he would like to open his diary on PFC, Khalid-sahab is most welcome.
loading...
Khalid did praise Black Friday.. but he also doesn’t like me because i defended haasil years ago.. i was one of the first guy who wrote an open letter to him in mid-day inspite of him praising Paanch..
i wrote what i felt.. i never took it as a case of you scratch my back i scratch yours.. but since then he has gotten personal in a very indirect way..
i don’t tell him to write good about me at the same time i don’t want to stop myself from writing what i feel..but then things are the way they are..
just because he praised my film doesn’t mean i should not say what i feel at the same time he can abuse me all he wants..
but calling up all and sundry to create a negative story out of nowhere is not done..
loading...
the post is altered because there was a name being tossed around of an unsuspecting journo who had nothing to do with it and i played into it.. now i am just correcting the mistake because i don’t want someone to be accused for n fault of hers.. i spoke to her and it’s my decision.. there is nothing else behind the scenes
loading...
Ha Ha. Methinks Mr. Khashyap is getting some free publicity by throwing up this conspiracy theory bogeyman. Don’t you think you should allow the film to speak for itself. I agree that this angry director bit is geting a bit old, epecially since you are now trying to join the big boys. I think PFC is now being used for launching personal attacks. Not good.
loading...
Suzy I dont think anurag needs publicity on PFC or anywhere yaar…he wanted to kick some asses and hit at the right place…and yea his film speaks much louder than Khalids paid reviews!
loading...
I dont see anything wrong in AK’s outburst. It’s fair as KM has HT platform to express his pow-wow opinions :D. If AK cant write in his own diary then what’s the good use of having one. I want some blood.
loading...
thanks Ashish, OP… didn’t get a chance to see Suzy’s comment… thanks for trying to explain what a blog is to the occasional web surfers…

Pratim, I do agree to the Aamir quote you have used about Telegraph and IE, but that does not mean real film journalism is not happening elsewhere. Sadly, like the stars and other industry people, we media people also tend to notice a film journalist only if he or she works for some metro-based media. Of course, Aamir would primarily have access to only Mumbai papers and maybe he goes through some others like Telegraph on the Net, but there are other papers too in this country which devote a lot of space to serious discussion on cinema (not in academic parlance as it is done in journals like Cinemaya, but in a common reader friendly way) – like The Hindu, Deccan Herald, etc. Of course, still you would end up counting all such papers in your fingertips, particularly if you restrict yourself to English media.
loading...
KM gets his revenge on cinephiles through the movie he makes. What more revenge can he seek?
loading...
I was only talking about English media… and I just wrote what Aamir said… not about my reading preferences… but I am very clear about the fact that the film sections of the majority of Mumbai newspapers today is worse than the B-grade movies churned out in the 80s. It is shameful to sell newspaper print by sheer imagination. The greatest victory of the judicial system will not be in the Sanjay Dutt or Salman Khan cases but if they can rightfully bring to book the journos who can only defame people who are sweating out there day in and day out to create something palatable. I am sure these journos will make great story writers and should seriously give a rethink about their professions. But then again if they are involved with films like some of the journo-turned-directors have, well, they better just vanish…
loading...
it’s largely the film based journalism that comes out of bombay .. other city papers pick up the gossip from here.. barring SKJ i don’t know any film journalist from out of bombay who is so yellow in my experience
loading...
Anurag, Utpal, Pratim> 1 pt: film jornalism has got twisted a lot coz of the overall approach. Dunno, if Pratim will agree, but it’s lost a lot of seriousnes to ‘SELL’.
Do i sound redundent? See, my point is no one DARE to trivialise a book review or art criticism even in the popular papers
loading...
Joyjeet I did mention the “sell” thing… Anurag’s right about pila play in journalism… He, of all people, knows how the journalist-whom-we-should-not-name talks to film people and how he creates those stories. “Why are you not casting X?” he asks a director. If the director says no, his story is “Y director does not want to work with X star” and if he says maybe, his story is “Y director to work with X star”. Just plain disgusting and we are not even getting into the gossip thing here. Anyway, about film criticism, well, I believe you need to see a lot of cinema, good-bad-ugly, to be able to differentiate a good film from a bad one. And this criterion is sadly non-existent in the industry.
loading...
Film criticism in Indian media = narrating story/plot or polemics of film form. There is no informed “critique” (critique here defined as an assessment based on a systematic inquiry into the nature of some principle, idea, institution, or ideology, usually devoted to revealing its limits or self-contradictions).
What we find in the Indian media is judgement and analysis, both having to some extent become divided between the market (where reviewers ask

Utpal: The research I talk about surveyed all newspapers — including the ones you mention. I found no differentiation between the coverage between ToI or the other newspapers. There is no basis for your claim about higher quality of writing in some newspapers (before we use the term higher quality, we need to define how the same can be located).
I sampled over 500 articles — qualitatively — and noted the writing to be sophomoric by all newspapers. The paper appears as a book chapter in a forthcoming book by Routledge eds., Nirmal Kumar and Meenakshi Bharat. A short version of the paper is here: http://www.subalternstudies.com/wiki/index.php?title=Fighting_it_out_over_the_war_film
You have completely missed the point and keep making references to “reader friendly”. This is not the first time you have made this distinction. If interpreted correctly by this you mean accessible writing [defined here as writing which does not take for granted that the reader is familiar with the taxonomy being used].
My definition of film criticism, whether written in newspapers or academic journals, is based on the definition advanced earlier: i.e., it has to be rigorous in its approach, have a philosophical basis (i.e., to not to be swayed by the popular and banal), have a sound argument, be subject to review of some form. Now why should journalistic writing not have the same qualities? Clearly, you are mistaking method (accessible style of writing) for getting an argument/thesis with the argument itself.
Extending the argument to cinema, should we keep mainstream spaces of cinema “audience friendly” and restrict “jargon filled” films (which require effort, experience, and knowledge in reading) to specialised audiences.
About the quality of writing on Indian cinema please refer Manjunath Pendakur’s book “Indian Popular Cinema: Industry, Ideology, and Consciousness”. The strength of the book lies in the fact that his views about Indian cinema (which includes the media) was proven to be true through a systematic and rigorous research.
P.S: Cinemaya is a magazine, not an academic journal. Reputed academic journals are peer-reviewed, i.e., papers published are subject to blind reviews by other scholars. Not that it is axiomatically superior, but it is a certain spirit of knowledge production. I have been a journalist and am now an academic and find distinctions between academic and popular writing facile. We encourage lay people to participate in discussions with us.
You contrast journalistic writing with jargon-filled writing in academic journals. Jargon is defined either as: a) nonsense, incoherent talk; b) technical language. I don’t know which meaning you imply. That is a separate discussion…

Whoa! Man you got a line up even YRF will be envious of! Well…Mananji, To announce projects and use artiste’s name unless they have legally signed your project is illegal.
I am not saying you cannot have or aim to have such a cast, it’s your effing birth right to aim for the sky but putting it on IMDB with (in talks) and (in negotiations) prove that you are using this just to trap some star struck bimbo.
One thing that comes to my mind after reading about your “project” in IMDB is…I imagine you sitting in your office…A big bosomed bimbo walks in…
BosomBimbo: Hi Manan…Jas had referred me to you…
Manan: Oh yeah…I was telling him about a character I had in my movie…
BosomBimbo: Oh…So your project is bollywood?
Manan: Yep…It’s with all the big stars of Bollywood…It’s on the Internet too…Didn’t you read?
BosomBimbo: Nope?
Manan: Well, just open the browser in the laptop in front of you…
BosomBimbo: Okay….
Manan: Well…go to IMDB.com…You know IMDB right? Internet Movie Data Base! It has all the information on movies world wide! Okay…Now search for Bollywood Blues….
BosomBimbo: Kewl…I can see..WOW!! WOW!! YOU ARE NOT KIDDING!! WOW!! Saif Ali Khan! Sushmita Sen!!Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor! WOW!! I am waiting to see their OSO and Saawariya!! You got both of them together…!!
(Our BosomBimbo ignores the (in talks), (rumored) bits..BTW, Manan, who is spreading rumors hahahaha)
Manan: Yep…We are doing pre-production now….
BosomBimbo: WOW!! Manan…I have to work in this project!! AR RAHMAN!!! OH MY GOSHHHHH!!! NIGHT SHYAMALAN!! YOU KNOW HIM?
Manan (with a smirk): Yep…personally….He helped me with the script…
BosomBimbo: Why “very special thanks” to Deepa Mehta and only “special thanks” to Gurinder Chaddha?
Manan: Deepa is a very very dear friend of mine…
Now, Our BosomBimbo is not able to control her excitement…her bosom’s are ready to pop out…
BosomBimbo: Manan!! I have to be a part of this movie!! Please…please take me!!
Manan: Definitely….Hey…Why don’t you stay over tonight…We will discuss your role over drinks…
BosomBimbo gets the hint…She smiles at Manan KATOHARA seductively….
Next day, Manan saab Jindabad hogaye! Free sex! Man, this bollywood thing is really great!!
Manan on the phone with BosomBimbo: Hi Bimbo darling…I need to urgently go to India to talk to Saif…But I lost my credit cards and my financier is transferring the money from London…Can you send over $2000 urgently? I will tell my financier to send to you directly…
BosomBimbo, who still has stars in her eyes agrees: Sure Darling….Anything for you…(She thinks about Saif and AR Rahman and cums again right there)
HAHAHA!! There are many scamsters in the Industry…but this one really beats ‘em all!
loading...
Mr. Machchar Sigh or Kachchar Singh or what chchar your name is… Dare not tell our idol that he is a scamster… you are a scamster… who got afraid of what the industry would do to you and as per what I have heard went and deleted your posts on PFC…
KATOHARA sir is the most revered Indian director in the NY film circles… everyone knows who he is… who knows who you are talking under a false name and pointing fingers at real people here… g**d mein nahin gu Hugne chale juhu???? isn’t that a very self pretensious attitude you have…
Dare not raise a finger at KATOHARA sir… our group will create war… the group is not small… it is made up of KATOHARA sir and me…
You wanna see the real facts which are not mentioned in IMDB… the real facts are that a lot of actors are being talked to and almost confirmed for Bollywood Blue White and pichlee brown…
Amitabh Bachchan (based on rumors that are based on Shootout at Lokhandwala’s true rumors that are based on some false rumors)
Abhishek Bachchan (based on rumors that Amitabhji will act in the movie that are based on rumors that are based on Shootout at Lokhandwala’s true rumors that are based on some false rumors)

I am SOOOO sorry buddy for offending the followers of Mr.Katohara!! HAHA!
Btw, Whatever you presume or assume is right and I don’t reveal my name as I am shit scared of the industry. By the way, I deleted my posts not because I was scared…My posts were all harmless anyway…but because I felt no point in baring my soul to some assoles who don’t understand…

I am yet to see the trailer but now will have look it up. have just one thought about the matter … I believe that pulling out a trailer from tv is anyday better than the ignominy of pulling out a movie from a theater because the audience did not understand … remember the fates of silsilay and tehzeeb !!! and the saddest part is that both movies were too simple for the audience to insult their own intelligence by even attempting to understand them !!! he he !

- Don G, give it a rest.

this don g is as funny as machar and both seem to be making fun of this man called KATOHORA i think ..or am i wrong??
what a stellar cast actually…it is just so funny that someone can actually have a page like that on imdb ..haha…is this guy KATOHORA for real??

Hello AJ (#86), welcome to PFC. My name is Pundit Fundu Sharma and I am based in King of Prussia, PA. I will be your guide, philosopher and astrologer today.
KATOHORA (the one and only) is the man with ultimate passion for cinema, and he is our Prabhuji. He is based in IMDB, has acted in Flavors, made Arya, and is now planning to make the sensational Bollywood Blues (see comment #68). His lifetime obession is “making world’s best movies”.
Don G is my guru. He is the principal of KATOHORA fan club, and KATOHORA’s ekalavya, and is based in Randolph/Parisppany NJ.
Machar is a famous Bolly”Woody Harrelson”, who used to bare his soul, sole, and hole, to assoles on PFC (that is you, me and all of us… the readers of PFC) and is based in Kamatipura, Mumbai.
Machar nemesis is Khatmal Singh, who is another big fan of KATOHORA. I don’t know where he is from. Khatmal is missing in action ever since Machar got constipated (from drinking all that Kamatipura blood) and removed his sorry ass posts and himself away from PFC.
If you more questions, just post them here.
loading...
- fuck fuck fuck… yeh kya ho raha hain on PFC… Sometimes I feel I was so much at peace before PFC… now who the hell are you Mr. Fundu Sharma??? Cud you please stop this post conversation going tangent… as it is it has reached Norway and we need to get it back between somewhere between Bombay and Delhi.
loading...
My sincere request to Oz sir, and the admins of the site: please don’t ban Don G. He is a very nice person and if you see the above comments it is Machar who is biting Don G. ThanQ for your kind understanding.
loading...
[admin note: Mr. Machchar, please stop trying to post under other assumed names]
My honest observation: By reading the above comments, I find out that Machchar never attacked Don G but it was Don G who was consistently ridiculing Machchar. I really want to know from the admins that if you guys believe in fair play? If anyone still doesn’t understand, I request them to read the above and find out themselves.
loading...
Hello Srinivas N (#94),
Yes and no. Let me ask you this. How would you feel if someone makes baseless allegations against your role model, your idol, who you know is a gem of a man? Don G’s reaction is because of that stupid write up that Machar wrote about our Prabhuji KATOHORA. From what I have imbibed from these comments, Machar apparently kicked himself out of his auhtorship, but looks like he is still itching to write about his dreams.

ok i found out osmething about mr KATOHORA on screenindia website
Indo-US film Arya reach places
Posted online: Friday, March 31, 2006 at 0000 hours IST
It is not common for Indian or Indian American films to get the kind of worldwide distribution that Arya is getting.
We are talking about writer-director Manan Singh Katohora
loading...
aj, Frankly, We at PFC LA, watched Arya and went dead in about ten minutes… right after the dialogue “Cowboy Dulhaniya Le Jayenge”… Vijay may have a lot more to add… now if Mr. Manan could come up and explain all this mess about his new movie and its IMDBed “rumored”, “in talks” etc etc claims, and the furor it’s creating here at PFC, I’ll be glad to close this subject and move on…

Oz sir (#97),
thanQ for your honest feedback. I will convey the message to Don G and our Prabhji KATOHORA.
aj (#96),
please make your conclusions after watching the movie. I sincerely request you.

yeah oz , the article from screen looks like a PR excercise more than anything genuine ..i was just curious to know if this guy is for real because from the imdb page (which i found hilarious , i havent still gotten over) i thought it was some prank(and some clever prank at that, to get that on IMDB) . only if mr KATOHORA can come on PFC and clear it up for us . i am sure none of us would mind if he uses all caps for the whole of his name rather than just the surname.

WILL THIS TOPIC END FOR GOD SAKE… I AM PLEADING BEGGING STOP THIS KATOHARA TOPIC PLEASE…

Anurag, I’m a journo (not with HT though) and I know for sure that Honey’s Hat is penned by Khalid. That’s his column where he takes out personal vendetta against people he hates. Also all the nasty filmy stories that u find in HT under various journos’ names are penned by Khalid too. Some of these names are fictitious and some of rookie journos working with HT… and yet some under Vajir Singh’s byline.. but the fact is that they are written by Khalid… he’s too much of a chicken to write these under his own name! Wonder what ppl are doing in the name of journalism and why do these newspapers allow such ppl to use this medium to vent personal frustrations!
loading...
Man, I can’t keep up. Yeh kahaaaaan aa gaye hum?! Maybe they (Khalid, Anu, Machchar, Don G, KATOHORA, Sonu, Subhash and whoever the hell else) should all just have one mass orgy and get it all outta their systems! Oz could film the whole thing abd present it as an never-seen-before “Passion For Cine Men” exclusive.
Anyway, I second the Salman Khan suggestion (comment 72). Would have been a far more interesting/intriguing/subversive choice. And high time someone made him over. SRK, Saif, Aamir, Hrithik et al have all been explored to some extent, but still a lot of scope left in Salman. Plus Kashyap & Khan seems unthinkable which is exactly why Anurag, you gotta twist his arm some day into working with you. Don’t know if he’ll give in, but you gotta try!

yeh ho kya raha hai bhai… dis aint the PFC dat i used to login 20-25 times a day… yikes… i m outta here…

night what did I do buddy to get into the esteemed list!
Does Salman smoke btw in real life?
loading...
Do u know Khalid gave 5*s to K3G?
He gave 3.5* to Hritik and Ameesha starrer Aap Mujhe achche lagne lage and he specifically mentioned in his review about the 6 pack abs of his.
Then we saw Hritik starring in his dud and down to drain movie Fiza where Krishma Kapoor a conservative Muslim girl does a item number in a disco. How very imaginative and liberating for a conservative women?
If people can invest in his movies what’s wrong with Joginder’s?
loading...
Ya Machchar Salman smokes in real life. But no one answered my question:
Did Anurag approach Salman for No Smoking?

Morning!
Yup…
got lot to learn, improve…
gotta grow and evolve…
as storyteller/filmmaker…
You can watch the promos for the horrific movie here [edited: please do not promote your products with multiple links]

Anurag,
Do you see what I mean? I hope you don’t develop the type of chamchas this Katohara character has.
Here is what I suggest: Take a break and don’t post anything for a while on your blog. I am sure everyone (PFC, Oz as well as your genuine friends/fans) will heal… I don’t mean to say that you started it all… Have a good one!
Badshah

No, don’t take a break. Don’t let anyone shut you down, especially when they are saying this “for your own good”! Stand your ground. You know what’s best for you. There’s a fine line, as you said, between defending yourself and creating a story where there was none before.
loading...
Oz,
Maybe you should have a closed domain and an open domain. Only those that have registered themselves at your website can post in the closed domains. Open domains can be used by all and sundry. That way you will have the power to bar anyone that is becoming a nuisance. Open domains can be a free for all and people can issues ’suparis’ if they feel so.

machar john abraham doesnt smoke in real life…so it shudnt matter if salman smokes or not for a role in no smoking..btw he does , heavily..sharukh has cut down , aamir has quit , saif tried , ajay devgan gets holes done in his filter …..want any more gossip machar ??
loading...
i know its the wrong place to ask but it is where maximum janta is (i dont know what to call it the anurag kashyap effect or the khaled mhd effect)…i had asked this on another post as well didnt get any reply ..so i will ask this guy named johnny gaddar ..is johnyy gaddar the movie based on kubrick’s ‘the killing’ by any chance??
loading...
aj, I think Salman is capable of serious depth. However, whenever he tries that no one pays to watch, so he’s always thumped on the head for trying.
From seeing the trailer, though, I couldn’t picture Salman as K in No Smoking. I would think he would have to be right for the part, not just be in the movie because he’s Salman.
loading...
Maybe they (Khalid, Anu, Machchar, Don G, KATOHORA, Sonu, Subhash and whoever the hell else) should all just have one mass orgy and get it all outta their systems!
=))
@Oz – Delete the stupid Katohora discussion, will you ? ~X(
loading...
johnny gaddar is not “the killing’..
it is an original film.. a sort of a modern noir like that of coen brothers or jason starr.. neo noir i would say.. it has similarities with various films of the genre which is limited to robbery, gangs, betrayal being the key word.. insecurity, murder, fear.. which i guess makes the most films of the genre
loading...
Salman was fabulous in Pyar kiya to darna kya .. “that” is the only kind of role he can do well in.
But Salman in ‘No Smoking’ … what 8-x
loading...
DON G….bahut maze le rahe ho betelal….ab bus bhi karo…Oz bechara pagal ho jayega warna…

Anurag -
You rock man! You are honest, intelligent and you have a soul – protect it!
In this day and age, everyone is a critic or a reviewer or whatever. If one jerk found your trailer confusing then there may be a million others who found it brilliant! I for one found it intriguing and thought the little bits showed John’s acting ability (don’t mean to be spiteful towards John but have never taken him seriously as an actor thus far, I am hoping No Smoking changes that opinion).
You appear to care a lot of what these ppl think of your films. I think you are above that phase of your life and recognized as a serious filmaker… ignore these little fucks whose ego’s are fed more on such reaction. that would be the best way to get back at them!
loading...
Salman will fit perfectly in a James Bondish character. The way he flirts with girls, the style with which he uses his “weapons”, the “care-a-damn” attitude towards the greatest villains make him perfect for such a role.
I visualize a movie, Spy one….with some of the greatest stunts (should make Dhoom types cringe in shame), where Salman plays a secret agent. For him to reach where he wants to, he has to solve clues at each of the 7 wonders of the world. Only then he will come face to face with No.7, the greatest villain on earth, who makes Osama Bin Laden look like a pussy cat in front of him.
Well…
loading...
Interesting Machchar….
I would love Salman to play an outright negative character….His look should be that of a rugged Cowboy minus the hat!! With a stubble, cig, worn out jeans and his care-a-damn attitude……..he would rock in such a role.
Hope someone comes up with a script that has such a character in it and Salman agreeing to it.
Well just hoping……….

Watch the remake of Pokiri, if it is made in time….Salman should rock in that character. Actually, Salman should have done Ghajini, I even heard they approached him for that…dunno what happened…he fits perfectly, as in the character is made just for him. But I feel Aamir should do a great job too….
I was conditioned by RGV to imagine gangsters as ruff & tuff guys speaking tapori language but when I saw a clean shaven Abu Salem, my thoughts changed…Even dawood has some kind of tapori-pan inspite of designer glasses and intent look whereas I feel some kind of sophistication in Abu Salem. How about Salman as a gangster in a film directed by RGV?

BTW, Happy Ganesh Chaturdi to everyone here at PFC.

Hi anurag.Firstly this movie is making all the right noises. So I assure you there is a lot of people keen to catch it first day first show including me.
I think the trailer could have been slicker if you know what I mean.I hope the producers spare nothing in advertising this movie.
The IQ of our journalists is degrading day by day.I don’t think you should attach much credence to what they say.
Khalid mohammed is a “sore” loser.I don’t think you should take a “sold out” critic’s petty pot shots too seriously.

I’m not gonna allow this to turn it into a flame war. I’ve read Sakshi Juneja’s article and it is her opinion. She makes it very clear. I’m sure she is not very clear about the “blogging” concept a medium she herself has used to write that article. Actually many in India and the Indian media have yet to decide what and where they should place this whole new thingy called “Blogging”… that article would have had very different shades had Saskhi understood a blog, on open online diary. Had she understood that it’s a stand alone website that is not shoved down people’s throats or sold off stores, rather people interested in it would go to the web address and read it. And lastly it’s an open forum, of course moderated for just the comments section, but yet good bad whatever, people can come in talk and be published right on the same page as the author’s post. Sakshi could have done that but chose not to. It’s her choice her decision. I have no problems with the article, just that it gets very skewed when the author hasn’t completely grasped the term blogging.
She even accuses PFC of leaning towards commercialisation… this on a website where authors are forced to enter amazon item numbers to create advertisements by the software for those entered item numbers… posts don’t get published unless an author enters those amazon numbers. She fails to give examples of commercialization… again a whim, a fancy, she took to without giving any reasons for it. Had she known how PFC is run and how the cash is collected to move it from month to month… again it’s a journalist taking potshots… without any research
loading...
it’s her opinion..that is skewed and i did get upset and posted a comment on her blog.. but then it was my anger that passed and it’s ok..i have met her and she is straight..atleast she doesn’t have pretense and she speaks her mind..guess i will take her slap too..

but yes i strongly disagree with her views about PFC..

Anurag – Now sure why you are apologising there. :-w
Sakshi has expressed her opinion and so have you. Whats there to apologize about ?

turrtle i apologise for my anger.. if it comes out against people who are misusing their position it’s ok to be angry..she is just expressing her point of view like i do.. i also piss off people.. if i could withdraw my comment.. i would, but i couldn’t so i apologise.. she is saying what she has to say on her personal blog..she is not forcing anyone to read it.. so it’s cool..

at Osians,i saw anurag and instantly i wanted to talk to him.and it was not difficult,he obliged me with his email id…as he was in so much hurry.one of the most talented and approachable guys.its strange…why people form an opinion on so fast…calling motormouth and all that shit…these journalists dnt have nothing to do but create unhealthy atmosphere for good film-makers,who think of good cinema and are vocal about it..whts wrong with it…RGV has made a bad film and even he accepts it..and everybody has a right to opinion as she has and anurag has.i am particularly fascinated of his films and him…he being a hansraj guy(i am of venky).its great to see people making to the industry…which has fuelled my interests.and surely of other youngsters as well…I am waiting for NO SMOKING.and i must tell anurag that i have been searching for PAANCH for a long time..and i found it in palika…bt i have not seen it…i am waiting for its release..hard work shudnt go down the drain…when is it coming out?

but the point is he is a bad actor no doubts my argument rested

Re Sakshi: so did you just post one comment on that blog Anurag? Coz I can see only one comment from you and it doesn’t sound that angry to me… Anyway what is this – Journos VS Anurag Kashyap month?! Oh and I don’t get her comment about PFC & commerialisaion either. However, I kinda agree about John’s acting abilities, but I still like him, and think that he’s a seemingly nice, down-to-earth and obviously good-looking guy and there are far worse out there.
PS. Is Machchar Kumar the same Machchar from PFC???

The reason that girl trashes john abraham is because she idolizes salman khan aka nanga khan
:((
Now, i was just thinking, whether nanga khan would have ever understood a concept like – “No Smoking” had anurag approached him with the script. :-?
In my mind, i think he would have taken ten years to even come close to understanding the concept. I think we should all allow the “Nanga Khan worshippers” to rest in peace and move on in life.
Peace.

But most ppl are biased…and thinking John isn’t a great actor means you’re a Salman fan?! So, does that also mean that since JA is in NS, AK is now a SK hater by default?? Or is that too many abbreviations? :d True though, that Salman probably wouldn’t have understood the concept behind NS. Which is why it would have been so damn intriguing if he’d done the film (or something like NS). But you’d probably have to sedate/hypnotise him first though….

Yeah…let’s move on…She is just jealous of PFC…that’s all.

If you’re gonna be rude to people then at least have the courtesy to do it in English. Oh and I think that you should take your own advice and shut YOUR mouth instead, coz the stink emanating from it is giving the rest of us a “headache”. Get well soon xxx

Machchar on September 18th, 2007 9:36 am: Says something in Telugu….it has the word night in it.
night on September 19th, 2007 4:44 am: gets worried and asks for a translation…”Translation, Machchar???”
No reply….Machchar also waits hoping someone would translate….later forgets about it…
Night saab does not forget…Lava is slowly building…

sai, i believe that when you cast a non actor then it is the directors responsibility to make him look like the character..if he doesn’t it is the directors fault all the way because he has the power to say ok.. if it’s a good actor then it is also to the actor’s credit and his willingness to feed to the directors greed that makes a performance beyond ordinary..
most of the filmmakers cast stars to make the project financially viable, but after that the filmmaker has to take over.. and i never in my post said john was good in the film.. read the post and you will see the point i m trying to make

SAIRAJ IS NOW OFFICIALLY CROWNED THE “STARTER” AND IN RECOGNITION TO HIS SERVICES FOR STARTING MANY THINGS, WE DEDICATE THIS COMMENT TO HIM. WE ALWAYS WILL HAVE FOND MEMORIES OF YOU SAIRAJ.

Anurag, I know you usually don’t reply to my comments but I always wanted to ask you this thing. For many years there have been rumors that Ramu slapped you twice or thrice during the shoot of “Satya” and Urmila Matondkar was somehow involved in that…Is it true or just a rumor?

Chill Mr Kashyap….. Mr Kahlid Mohammad is a bloody loser…….. I would like to tell that jerk “Jaani Jo sheeshon ke mahalon mein raha karte hain ,woh dusron ke ghar pe patthar nahin pheka karte hain” I mean that KM jerk made 3 films so far out of which only Fiza had a semblance of a storyline n was elevated by Hrithik’s acting… the rest 2 huh yaad bhi nahi… and i guess another film of his starring Hema malini n Naseeruddin Shah is still i the doldrums… but still he says whatever he wnats bout other films except for maybe SRk’s Films… Although a long time ago when he was workin for TOI he was doing a fine job.. But guess he lost it after being thrown out or rather leaving Times… Guess FIZA had a major role in his quitting TOI. Newayz I’ve seen the theatrical as wellas the T.V promos n the film looks rocking for sure…. N i’ve been a fan of urs since a long time… N like Black Friday n Paanch (though i’ve yet to see this one) im sure this will also rock… only hoping that it doesnt border a bit 2 much on the bizarre….. Newayz allt he best 4 NO SMOKING n would be maha thrilled if u would personally reply to my reactions……………
loading...
Arre Anuragji ek aur sawaal isnt there anyway in which PAANCH could be released ?????.. Like say by the producers of No Smoking or Direct on DVD/VCD??? or on TV….. Coz im just dying to watch the film anyhow……. Arre even the fabulous Audio CD of the film is also not available anywhere… Main Khuda the number just rocks…………… newyaz hope 4 the best………
loading...
N The way the articles is titled in HT …. Dhoomrapan machale… n the language used in the article…. it is definetely KM the eternal jerk… Newayz keep rockin…………
loading...
Paanch should hopefully release..people are interested only if my producer comes out of his hiding
loading...
Now Anurag kashyap has some brand value. So why the producer not trying to cash in by promoting the movie and releasing it now? Is he not interested in making some money on the movie rather preferring to let it rot in the cans? Or may be he has lots of money and doesn’t care about some extra bucks???
loading...
Some people make more money by losing money. It’s some complex I-T stuff which I will never be able to understand in my life.
And sometimes, you just don’t bother to release the movie as the cost of prints, publicity etc will deter the producer.
See, think realistically, Here in PFC, as Anurag is one of the blogger here, the movie Paanch got some buzz…but go look outside…ask the common man, Paanch dekhoge? Ask your call center colleague, Will you see Paanch? All you will get is a strange look.
You gotta understand, that Anurag is of brand value only to us movie people but for common man, he is not an Aditya Chopra or Sanjay Leela Bhansali…Whatever said and done…only box office records speaks at the end of the day.
loading...
@Machchar,your#178 has buzz and bite–true to your name for a change.
loading...
Great insight Machchar – But realistically Paanch was known even before PFC was registered as a domain on the internet and even before Black Firday was made and then later released….
and that call center colleague you mentioned….if the fate of Indian cinema rested on their strange looks or cockeyed looks or whatever look according to you makes a film worth releasing….In that case I would rather wrap myself to film stock and set myself on fire…..until then…..”saar jhuka Khuda hun main…..”:)>-
loading...
oye Machchar…sabar kar yaar…let the producer announce its release, and promos hit back to the screens…all your call center colleague will watch it with you…till then…”sar jhuka…”
loading...
No one seems to understand that I was not talking about the quality of the movie. The comment was more for why the producer may not be releasing the movie. I was only guessing why such movies are not being released as usually, the producers are not bothered by a handful of cine fanatics…how many tickets will he sell for them? 1000? 10,000? Is that enough for him to recover the money? Just look at the bigger picture.
loading...
machar point taken but it doesnt seem the case….it depends on where your funding is coming from ….ashish shukla , its very difficult to revive a 5 yr old film(even if the movie is too good ) it will never be marketed well and its release will suffer.
loading...
hi anurag i just loved black friday.. i thought this was a movie with ‘content’ and ‘meaning’, which is a rarity these days… this is the genre i admire. i think when a director of your calibre teams up with the youth icon john … it makes no smoking, a movie to be look forward…. Great Going AK…
loading...
hey anurag i really admire u n u r work i consider u a genius i might be sounding a wannabe but i want to make movies the way u make n more the way u talk the angst in u is very relateable i can identify the angst look if u had not cast john then i doubt the movie would be made in the first place n if it did it would be in the cans like u r other movies the industry sucks bcoz the movie sells when u hav a star n john is a star i know its the directors vision that a actor potrays on screen but he too has some abilities if not then abmitabh would b a mr nobody ……………………………..any way u r the DON!! :d:d…………….. n lastly thanks mACHHAR u dont hav to keeep fond memories of me i will be always there on pfc

I think he was being sarcastic, Sairaj :d Takes a while to get used to Machchar’s humour…

Well, who knows it better than night “saab”!! haha!!

now night macchar n u ………….what the fuck is goin on just disscuss movies or anything related dont started a kid war hrereon pfc

hi anurag
dont u think that big banners like yrf dharma get all the good reviews from these so called critics

What would someone do, if he has a good story in his mind. Like if I say I have a origial story in my brain, are u ready to listen to it. Wont take more than 500 words to write it, but would need your personal email id for it.
And whatever the case is ‘No Smoking’ sucksss.
And I am an asshole, went to see the movie with my girlfriend? Tune to break up hi karwa diya tha yaar Kashyap.

I read HT, and i am also curious to know who dis madhu mottu is. whosoever, is really a damn frustrated person. who cares about her nd her opinions anyway.
same with me, i just do opposite of what KM’s review suggests, think he doesnt review movies, reviews people who have made them.
loading...
hi
guys khalid mohammad loves kabhi khushi kabhi gum type movies..plz forgive him. :d
loading...
Ye Khalid is a do kauri ka flop director (so called). He is an ass and his film reviews reeks of attemp to increase his own portfolio. Basically chutiya hai and is kattu buddhe ke gaand pe do laat dena chaiye…
loading...
Everyone knows how much Khalid Mohammed hates amitabh Bachchan and his family. His reviews of Bachchan family members movies spew unbelievable amount of hatred. Can you beleive it that this flop director of movies that nobody remembers dares to tell Amitabh Bachchan to go and learn acting. Anurag Kashyap’s note on John Abraham’s experience made me wonder if Khalid Mohammed hatred of Bachchan is because of Mr. Bachchan’s refusal to act in his movie “Jai” in 2003-2004.

Hi Anurag,
KM provides rich material for a great Hindi film script for sure. I feel the industry guys should should analyze him for this reason more than anything else. His brand of journalistic terrorism is so unique!
Imagine the guy has the audacity to recommend Satyajit Ray to the audiences… Can anything be more narcissistic than that!
One look at his reviews and you know the character (or the lack of it) He reviews A Wednesday and invents an obsession with Islamic terrorism in the movie – well the obsession is in his own mind – after all, does he not plant terrorist strikes through the jagir of his columns. But Hindustan Times is a clumsy outfit. there are so many out there running their own agendas…that one can’t single out KM sir alone. But the guy is indeed lucky.
Shyam Benegal chooses his stories despite the fact that he despised all Benegal movies. While Mammo and Sardari Begum were good films, Zubeida marked the beginning of the creative degeneration of Benegal. If Benegal is scouting for good stories (apart from celebrity stars) for his movies, there are so many good writers without the label of great against their name. Why the obession with KM? But KM as I told you is lucky. And a great film script.
Warm regards
Sudhir

Just to ensure that the Satyajit Ray bit is not misunderstood by readers in my earlier post, what I meant was that KM dares to “recommend” Ray to his readers – as if the great legend was waiting posthumously for this guy’s approval to certify his work. KM is a rare species and people like Shyam Benegal help him survive.
