Just read your OSO movie review … You gave it four stars ??
Yeah OSO is a nice shameless masala potboiler movie … which will definitely “set the cash registers ringing” (sorry Taran Adarshji for borrowing that phrase). I saw OSO and yeah to admit .. quite enjoyed it… yeah it was pure fun. The 31 stars in a song .. foot stapping music .. retro visit.. inhouse film industry jokes … a ravishing Deepika padukone …. the ability to take things lightly .. for these many reasons i loved the film. Of course I’m pretty sure u would also like to mention the 6 pack Abs of SRK in Dard -e-Disco which would made all the females(including Bobby Darling
and Delhi’s CM – Shiela Dixit) in the audience go gaga.
Yes it is a nice film … come in .. watch it .. go out … good entertaining stuff …
But what prompted you to give the film 4 stars ???
Was it the 4 yuva-ish multiple stories in the disastrous Silsilay (with a cameo by SRk) ??
Or was it the 6 – 2 (2 as in 2 eyes .. ears … round things) = 4 .. the number ??? hence proved … QED ????
WTF is a ‘QED’ doing in your movie review ?? Are you doing a movie review or a PHD in Geometrical Computations ?

Mr Mohmmd, wat screenplay ??? I thought there was no screenplay in the film. The entire film as such insults the viewer .. but he/she/ghee enjoys it !!! What exactly did you find insulting ?

May be Farah and the DOP hid his only-two-expressions-in-a-film by creative camera angles… or may the editor took only the NG takes (NG = Not Good takes.. which in turn came out good .. because the actor in question was arjun rampal … you do not
know which is a good take and which is bad).
Or may be because few Autumns ago he had acted in your film Tehzeeb wearing 24 carat Gold – Sonata smile !!!

My point is in a film like this, you CANNOT JUDGE ANYONE’S ACTING PERFORMANCE.
Sushmita Sen looked OK and passable in Main Hoon Na, whereas the fact is, she is just plain intolerable to the point of me wanting to jump into the very fire SRK jumped to save Deepika.
Agreed its a comedy..a spoof at points.. but it is certainly not a Kabhi haan Kabhi Na, Golmaal (older one), Hera Pheri that you can appreciate the performances of SRK and others.
I thought John was good in No smoking, despite however bad/good/indulgent the film was. If John “still has to LEARN the Ka Kha Ga (read A B C) of acting”, then will you go overboard/overwrought with passion/overdrive in praise of your blue eyed boys Arjun and SRK (actually men, but let that pee oh sorry be) ??
Dude do u realise that you are writing for ONE OF THE MAJOR NEWSPAPERS OF THE COUNTRY (HT) and that your reviews are read widely by everyone. Doesn’t that have a certain amount of responsibility tagged along ?

A long time back I used to find it amusing and kinda clever even, but his punning/play-on-words schtick is now seriously irritating. He just doesn’t seem serious about any of the films he reviews…it seems all he’s interested in is showing off his (annoying) dexterity with words.

as of mr.mohammed and his reviews goes i would say reading about what people think about his reviews is more entertaining than reading his reviews and sometimes watching some of the films he reviews.
I feel about the same about the cricket writer Peter Roebuck, think he’s arrogant and impossibly smug and unbearable to read. What do I do? I don’t read his articles, and mute the TV when/if he’s commentating. You have the same option dude.

this is the first article i read on PFC and now i have a very low opinion about PFC itself.
A lot of people read mr.khalid mohammed’s reviews just for the sake of his style of writing…which is inimitable and requires some talent, which you surely don’t have…in fact you sound cheap and frustrated.

It is not my problem that Anurag Kashyap has a feud with KM. They are both adults who can fight it out amongst themselves. I hate to mention Anurag, but the fact is that PFC is very blinkered when it comes to him and his movies.
KM is a film reviewer. No less, no more. He is not Osama Bin Laden. If you think he is bad, voice your opinion sure, I’ll read it. When you as an educated film-goer see through his charade, others shall too. But when you hurl abuse in a public forum, you give yourself a bad name, puncture your own cause.
If PFC is to have some sense of direction, association and identity, grow into an adda for Indian cinephiles… these bachkana diatribes have to be discouraged… or atleast relegated to a forum or bulletin board, not here on site, to put off the mass readers.
KK, nothing personal. 4 stars for a SRK film is not the end of the world. He has always garnered attention and he will continue to do so. The people who you wish to see successful can either compete or whine. Though I would be sad to see fellow PFCites whining instead of encouraging/discussing sensible cinema.
Don’t bring in the example of Hrishida’s Golmaal in your article. If I remember correctly Khalid did not have good things to say about Hrishida’s Golmaal in his review upon the movie’s release. I think he had almost trashed the movie.
@ Kunal..agreed completely…but why do you think that hating KM in PFC has to do with Anurag. Cant PFCians just hate for what he writes?? We comment on write ups that are posted and it assumes a unidimensional outlook. If the moderators do not curb undirectionally threatening posts at its inception then it is not my fault.( No one is saying so..) But who decides which are the right posts and which are not.

@KK..your rant is simply not on. Khalid has been writing for years now and has a fan following. People read him even if they do not agree with him even a single time.
Khalid has his own choices and he has been penning them for all of us to comment on. There was no post on his incompetence before Anurag took him on. Anurag has his own reasons. They should remain his reasons and not spill out to be foul mouth sessions for others.
I am taking a distant view on the subject of critics in India here. There are some good, some indifferent and some plain bad ones. I can show you some stuff that PFC people do not talk about and they are far more bizarre and WTF types. So, why pull on Khalid for giving OSO 4 stars.
OSO is a runaway success. That means that it has been liked by most people. It also means that there is space for such movies in our country. We make movies for our countrymen and as of now market it only to them. Khalid is a part of this industry. He does a job that puts him under public scrutiny every week. If he is irresponsible, he gets the brunt and grunt in many ways. OSO is one movie he won’t get a grunt for. I know it and all the guys here know it too. There is no illusion here. So, forgive and forget. Anurag has made a movie very close to his heart. Many people have not liked it or did not see it. So, Anurag has to start with a new and interesting palate. If he is honest to his profession, success is bound to come and PFC shall rejoice. No Smoking was different and many of us have been fortunate to see the birth of a new form of story telling in India. So, in that manner Anurag, Vishal and Kumar Mangat have forged a path. Let us all invest a positive energy in irrigating that path, not irritating others.
I have read quite a few articles by my name sake (for god sake even surname sake) he came across as a reasonable man even when he came back with his view on NS while the controversy was still raging. I guess we should pardon him for this moement of temporary insanity. KK what are you pissed with Khalid for , giving OSO 4 stars or Khalid’s irrational tirade against AK, I think that chapter is long past sell by date dude. NS was universally trashed by critics and audience , what are you going to do , be a modern day vigilante against all critics and audience who trash the movies you believe are well made. Reading such abusive language is disgusting. There have been worse film reviews. And Film reviews do not make a film successfull. Lot of people who go and see movies don’t even buy newspapers or read magazines.
One has to accept that if the movie did not succeed, they must have lacked something.

I did see both the films back to back yesterday and did not like either of the films, except for RANBIR who i thought was good.

If you think KK was drunk when he wrote this post Then I am sure that KM reaches the Screening venue with an agenda (based on his relationships with the collabrators for the movie).. watches the movie either distracting other reviewers with his childish tantrums or with a WAH WAH ( again based onhis relationships with the movie collborators). After the screening goes home…Opens some Cheap scotch or cheap vodka and Full tight, starts his review after the each screening.

While I abhor Khalid’s reviews because of their highly personal nature (reviewing the person behind the movie rather than the movie), I personally think this post gets a little too personal, too.
And on film criticism, sigh, I want to say a lot but right now I’m groggy at 4.45 after having been disappointed by both Saawariya and Om Shanti Om (but relatively enjoyed the latter, though it could have been way more entertaining).

Why publish the post and then all of us criticize and pan it openly later. Packaging this thread as “viewers vs Reviewers” is just lame.. who cares about reviewers any way..
Do critics like KM get influenced by the pre-release perceptions of a movie (as a lot of cinema viewers do) ? Or do they enter the theatre with an open mind and review from their own POV.
A lot of readers do not read the entire review but only glance at the no. of stars given.Many viewers do not read reviews at all!
I don’t think reviewers can sway public opinion as regards a movie’s success or failure.
Recently reviewers have started giving the thumbs up sign to movies that are likely to do well commercially, whereas in the past they used to only praise ‘different’ movies.
Ofcourse , within the film industry and distribution circles the opinion of these reviewers does matter,atleast initially.
This post has generated a lot of heat.
Let the C in PFC belong to cinema,and not controversaries!

I agreed with you when I said that this article seems like another personal attack to me – I do agree with most of what is written, but it could probably have been expressed in a different way … but PFC = Kashyap? I seriously disagree. I have just started browsing through this site’s archives and from what I have come across, it is a democratic forum where you can express your likes or dislikes for any movie as long as you are can justify it and you maintain a decorum while expressing your opinion. I think we all need to be a little more open-minded out here, please.

If you dont know the meaning of a word in an article , it means the writer has used it to show off his “GRE” vocabulary.
If the reviewer thinks sushmita sen was good and if you think she was bad the reviwer is a chutiya.

Ok ..Lemmestart with this – i wasn’t frustrated /depressed /doped/ drunk when i wrote the post.
Firstly, I personally feel khalid wrote an unnecessarily ‘gushing’ and raving review .. which the film isn’t. The film is just a boogie woogie dance show .. or a nice bhelpuri ..if i may put.. I’m not saying OSO is bad .. but at the same time… it isn’t no Cinema Paradiso to deserve 4 stars !!!
Secondly, i honestly feel like burning up the newspaper everytime i read khalid’s review becos of his tongue in cheek oversmart trying-to-show-off-my-vocab style of writing. Pray what were the words QED,jamboree, oxygen mask doing in a movie review ?
Now im nobody to decide what goes in a movie review and what not .. but honestly .. those words put me off… Show me what the movie has and doesn’t .. what u liked and wat u didnt.. wat is good and watis bad…. but dnt confound me with ur sarcastic style so much that i need to discuss a “review” of ur “review”. I havent come to appreciate ur ENGLISH … i have come to know what your thoughts on the movie are…
Lastly – there is no such thing as I wrote it keeping in mind a ‘certain’ filmaker … Pls feel free to click on my name and read my thoughts on the ‘certain’ filmaker’s last film.

From the time OSO released , the only review that I was waiting for was KMs … why … because just wanted to see if for once he could rise above pettiness and sycophancy and genuinely rate a movie for what it is …
and yes the man has proved all his detractors right once again …
from the time , i have started loving cinema (when i moved to pune from my grads) , KMs reviews in Sunday Times have been part of my life … Crowning review of the time i remember Hello Brother which he refused to give any stars to and just butchered the movie and i honestly thought it to be so cool. Loved his language and his style …
Infact when his reviews disappeared from Sunday times , i fervently searched the net for reviews for i was sure that a man as big as him would publish his thoughts somewhere !!!
Since then however as i grew older and wiser, I started seeing through his reviews and as i sat through Silsilay , I started reading his reviews for their pure entertainment value than with any iota of seriousness !!!
What troubles me the most about the 4 stars to OSO is not the rating per se but sheer inconsistency of the man … he pretends to be a film reviewer (as against Taran Adarsh who is trade pundit and writes reviews based on that !!!)
and yet comments on the commercial viability of the film as one of the positives of OSO. Hits and Flops do not define good or bad cinema !!!
Secondly as a man who has been writing reviews every sunday since time immemorial , his thoughts are bloody inconsistent. And my problem with OSO getting 4 stars is that Dil Chahta Hai ,Lagaan had got 4 stars as well. So does that mean they are of the same quality in his mind ? (forget my mind for the time being !!!)
And again if i were to quote from Spiderman “with great power comes great responsibility” KM is the example to use to show how people in positions where they can affect public opinion use the same to fight their private battles …

Oh God, Kartik! You sound super angry… But really, I do not think Khaled Mohammed has done something so insane.. He liked OSO, and so did lakhs of others.. The movie is doing well. You didn’t like it. So??? Khaled Mohammed has been writing for years and has earned his reputation. Yes, I do not agree with his many points and agree sometimes he is biased. But the point is: No one is asking either you or me to write reviews for them.. Right? They are asking him, because they feel he is the right person to talk about it.. So he gets a newspaper and you and I get a website / blog. So we all use the mediums we have access to and say what we want.
If he gave OSO 4 stars, cool! Let it be.. I saw the film and quite liked it myself! Why are you taking it so seriously…
I am not his fan, but I don’t detest him either. He just does his job. And please, just because he gave a film 4 stars, doesn’t mean he has slept with somebody! Whatever is that??? Is that all that we can think of? Please!

Yes of course Taare Zameen par too… but with the politics that went behind while the making and what happened to Amol is very disturbing… Hope the film rocks, i guess it will, Amir khan sahab hain, kuch galat nahi ja sakta, people to some extent are always biased against successful actors, directors, stars etc…
Lets see what we make out of it…
SRK has been waiting all his life to show us (INDIANS) what best he can do. No surprise, we can be fond of feeding milk to stones. OSO is what he has been doing all these years in bollywood. A documentry on his unusual achievements. He has actually risen to a level becoz of us and we have portrayed ourselves as ardent lover of senseless cinema. We love styles not acting, we can treat a person like a god if we like his dimples, NO surprise, we are good at feeding milk to stones.
