Khoya Khoya Chand, dil dosti etc : ‘First Look’ Thoughts
Writing this post as I am going through a glossy book that introduces Sudhir Mishra’s Khoya Khoya Chand and a flier on Manish Tiwari’s directorial debut dil dosti etc, both products of Prakash Jha Productions. Sudhir’s film will release on October 26, and Manish’s on September 28.
Manish Tiwari, as the flier introduces him, is a PhD from Cambridge (UK), did a post-doctoral fellowship from Yale (USA) and United Nations University (Japan). He has worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN in Rome, Nepal and India. His monograph, titled Participatory Forest Policies and Politics in India was published by Ashgate (UK). He has produced and directed two documentary films - Lo Manthang and Ramnagar.
Well, the director’s educational and work experience are really, really impressive, and that is why the film, which the flier says has an original story by him, should be worth waiting for if nothing else, especially if he has been able to incorporate some of his experiences and worldviews in the film.
The casting of the film is quite interesting - Shreyas Talpade, who I somehow feel has the intensity of Mithun Chakraborty to do roles of angst-filled youth, just as he has the capability like MC to go fully masala, plays an Bihari student-politician in Delhi, and Imaad Shah, who we saw in his father Naseeruddin Shah’s directorial debut Yun Hota To Kya Hota , plays his friend, an aimless college student.
Going by the synopsis of the film, it is going to be a college caper, but not of the ‘nothing-else-but-romance-happens-in-college-campuses’ kind. Hopefully, it will mark an interesting debut this year.
The first look of Sudhir’s Khoya Khoya Chand, on the other hand, comes in the form of a lavishly-mounted glossy-paged hardbound book, reflecting the bigger profile of the film and its director. As we all by now probably know, it is going to be Sudhir’s tribute to Hindi Film Industry’s Golden Years - the 1950s and 1960s (thankfully, the book does not use the term ‘Bollywood’).
Shiney Ahuja, as Zafar Ali Naqvi, the rebellious young writer from Lucknow who is drawn into the world of cinema (would we see shades of the director himself in Zafar?), looks appropriately soulful in the photographs, and Soha Ali Khan, as the extra-turned-starlet-turned-heroine Nikhat Bano, looks elfin. Rajat Kapoor and Sonya Jehan play the other main characters, with Vinay Pathak, Saurabh Shukla, Sushmita Mukherjee bringing up the casting rear.
Well, Sudhir, we are waiting to watch it unfold on the big screen…. and to hear your thoughts on Bahut Nikle Mere Armaan that finally turned into KKC….
And hopefully, also from Manish Tiwari on his birth pangs as a feature director….

theres another movie…humne jeena seekh liya…its about everything…school education, sex education in school, love, reservations, politics etc everything rolled into one…promo on indiafm is of long 8 minutes…subject looks interesting…hopefully the director gets it right…

when i read abt the film, thought wud be intersting. but from the promo its looks bit amatuerish kinda stuff. lets c.
and here is something that will scare u…dada, ye kaisa poster hai…wasnt the theatrical promo not enough..so here it comes…laga chunari me daag…journey of a woman..hoof….
http://indiafm.com/movies/fstills/13370/index.html
do let us know what do u guys think…ye daag kaise lag rahe ?
“ONE” ??
from the promo it looks like the story is similar to the one from marathi movie “doghi”…where elder sister has to work as a prostitute due to certain cicumstances…
its just a guess :)
Plot of Laga Chunari Me Daag is ripped off from Mumtaz - Rajesh Khanna starrer “Aaina” (late 70s) (Incidently last film of Mumtaz as heroine before her comback in aandhiyaan in 90s).. the role of AK hungle is being essayed by Jaya Bhaduri.. Aaina was directed by K Balachandar and probably dubbed in Tamil too..Interestingly Kamal Hassan too played an insignificant role in the film..
will watch khoya khoya chan for sudhir bhai interpretation of golden era.manish tiwari’s film is about campus politics and youth of north india.i will go for that too.
Khoya khoya chand.. very interesting.. love the variations in music… whose the music director anyone would know??
Regarding, Shiney, I wonder what does he use on his face, day by day he is looking better, and younger.
