Khoya khoya chand(review) - bahut nikle mere armaan…
Its one film that i was superexcited about from the moment sudhir mishra announced it. The reasons were many…next film from the man who made Hazaroon Khwashein Aisi, a story set in 60’s, a film about film industry and much more. The promos got me hooked, the look was right, attractive, the expressions were saying so much, the songs made me feel the he has got the right sound and now its only about the right visuals. But wish filmmaking was that easy to put it into simple words. Finally saw the film. I was expecting the moon. Never thought about the spots.
Its a triangular story. The triangle of love, ego and ambitions where four charcters (soha ali, shiney ahuja, soniya jehan and rajat kapor) move from one corner to other. Vinay Pathak adds the fifth dimension. Its a role that any actress would die for. But soha ali is the weakest link. she is good in bits and no doubt that its her best work till date. But a character that has such a huge range and so many complex emotions to carry, soha fails. She has got the rite look but the voice fails, the emotions just down show up. I dont feel for her. But then who else can carry this role ? Me, vasan, smriti, ashish n thani saw the film. we still havent found any other actress’ name who could have carried this role well. Am biased for Chitrangada(where r u ??)Remember the way she graduted from westernwear in the beginning to cotton sari in the end in HKA. Soha almost goes through the same phase. but and a big BUT. Shiney is ok and good at places. The discovery of the film is Soniya Jehan. She is simply superb in every scene wherever she is and after some time i even start rooting for her relationship with shiney. let nikhat cry a little more. Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Sourabh Shukla…we all know. Do i need to say more about the Mr Dependables.
The film has a huge hangover of HKA. The cockiness of Shiney’s charcter, the narrative structre (the way its jumps from one scene to other without any breathing space), the attitude of the main protaganist, the way emotional scenes are handled and the relationships of the main leads. Sachin Krishn’s photography makes you feel that you are in that era. The production design is such that in every frame you can see the effort that has gone into it. And some great dialogues…saying so much in just few words. The film has some great moments too….the scene when rajat confronts shiney, when shiney goes to soniya for his film and the best one is when rajat kapoor confesses that he is haramzaada. or all of us are the same. Too many confessions sir ?
The thing that didnt work at all….the relationship between Shiney and Soha. How did that happen ? Am i feeling bad if the lovers are not united ? Nah. Am detached to that. But all the other relationships that are on the fringes of the main one works amzingly well. The Shiney-Soniya Jehan, Rajat-Soha, Vinay-Soha, shiney and his family.
Also, sudhir has repeatedly said in many interviews that its about that era when people gave away everything for cinema. It was all about that passion for cinema. And missed this pfc in kkc big time. where was that ? Only the song in the end said that…thirakte bahkate nikal jaye dum…otherwise no. And such an amzing title track has been used in so uncreative way. If you close your eyes and hear the song, you feel much more than when you see those uninspiring visuals onscreen. But love the way the other songs have been used in the narrative.
Do watch KKC because its an important film that needs to be seen. You cant miss sudhir mishra’s film anyway. The man has given many landmark films that mostly hasnt got its due including his last one. Dont let that happen anymore. Five of us who saw the film last night had a great time. After the film and endless round of discussions with every possible person, we went for dinner at 2 in the night. And the discussion just went on and on and on and am still wondering…….. bahut nikle mere armaan!!

Boy this is a new first for PFC , while a movie from one of our own from PFC is being touted as less than perfect (this is second such article)but Raja Sen ( Yes Sir Yes Sir Rediff bag full)has given the movie far more positives
No, its not the first..we spoke to Manish Tiwary about Dil, Dosti, etc. and its slip ups too!
But yes, not at Sudhir Bhai’s levels!
KK it’s the first Raja Sen review I thought lacked his usual conviction and gut…..was not very convinced with what he wrote….mayank’s review was much more assured and seemed he has put what he thought……Raja…kya hua iss baar?
vasan…i think people dont want to judge kkc like other films cz everyone knows that the filmmaker is honest and there is noble intention there and so even when u dont like the film that much, even when u can see so many mistakes that u never wanted to c it there, u still try to see the moon overlloking those spots. u still want to root for it and i hav no problems in admitting that i also belong to that category…..as the line from the title track goes…..dil to aakhir beimaan hai….!!!
KK…do read thani’s post. havnt written about those issues which thani has already adresd in his post like vinay’s vo thing.
i personally liked it…as i had told u was rooting for it till the last 20 mins…
I agree with Vasan it was not the ususal free flowing Raja. Maybe all that abusive statements from lot of stunded rats in rediff comments is getting to him .( Ha Ha Ha…)
I agree with Phoenixnu that KKC is a kind of movie where your heart forces you to ignore the flaws, also the man who was part of JBY and gave is HKA usko hazar ( 10x from my side) khoon maaf.
Please my comment was not on the artices in PFC , it was more on Raja this time. By the way how come nobody ever discussed Raja’s post on how AK danced on Saawariya music in PFC
@Phoenixnu
I had read thani’s post and also Utpal’s , I actually tend to agree with all three of you , but as I said dil nahi maana, picture vakai mein dil sey achi thi.
