Kishoreda
Last year Suparn Verma had published an interview of Kishore Kumar by Pritish Nandy. So that prompted us to have a discussion on his life and a film should be made on him. In fact, we went as far as who should play Kishore Kumar, if a film does get made on him… And now, it seems like Percept Pictures Company must have read that discussion, as they are planning to produce a film based on Kishore Kumar..
Kishore Kumar, one of the greatest singer-actors in Hindi cinema, will soon be immortalised in film.
Nagesh Kukunoor, who has helmed such films like Hyderabad Blues, Iqbal and Dor, is slated to direct the film. Titled Kishoreda, the film will be produced by Percept Pictures Company.
However, this has not been officially announced, but let’s hope this true.. if it is true then the film should be ready by year 2009, i suppose…
And Nagesh Kukunoor will be directing the film - now that is a surprise! He is a talented director and has done quite few different kind of films, but never thought that he would be associated… but anyway, it would be interesting to see how he directs the movie…
And now the big question - who should be cast.. to play Kishore Kumar? My suggestion is, Amit Kumar! He is legend, imo! If you watch K for Kishore, then you will know why I have mentioned his name.. He is truly a character! I do not know what Kishore Kumar was like in real life but if I had to guess.. then he would have been like Amit Kumar.. or Amit Kumar is like Kishore Kumar!

You are right bro.
The one and only person who can play Kishore Da is Amit Kumar. He might not be a very successful singer or actor but definitely he is KISHORE. Any one who has observed Kishore Da’s movies and show will find them so much alike.
Period.
One thing is very correct…it is Amit Kumar only who can get remotely close to KK’s style and voice. He is far behind, but still he is the closest.
Nobody else can even think of getting close.
The greatest comedy mimic of all times (IMO), Mr Johnny Lever also had surrendered ( his Zee TV stint )
kcp
Is Kukunoor a good choice for the movie? The film will need a director with a real good grasp of comedy, and I doubt Kukunoor has that.
Comedy is just one part of the versatile Kishoreda. A serious film maker should put front the other aspects too, in the right proportions and in an effective manner.
Lets see……..
Yes KCP
Comedy is really very small part of his versatility. In fact this film needs a very serious and philosophical touch at the same time one should be capable to catch his whimsical and quirky mood.
However, one of the most original and exciting concept ever ^:)^
i am hung up on Govinda doing Kishore da..they even look alike..put the mushtache and see!!
So, like me, most of you are cautious about Nagesh directing the film. Then who should be given the job/responsibility…
IMHO it should be Raj Kumar Santoshi as he is the only director who has tremendous grip over both serious and comedy cinema.
you know.. Nagesh has done fair of (subttle) comedy and serious cinema.. but this kind of films requires over the top sort of comedy?!
BTW, i don’t know much about Kishore’s life.. so what kind of incidents of his life will they show..? They will have to get that right.. according to that news, they have already got a script…
This is not sufficient to like Kishor Kumar songs only to make a film on him.
In the living directors only two names pop up their heads who may do justice towards the film.
(1) Shyam Benegal, given his fine record of doing a thorough research. And he is one of the finest directors of India.
(2) Gulzar, He has seen the period of 60s. He has worked with Kishore kumar and he knew him and RDB closely. He has made comedy and sensitive films.
He is one name who may make a wonderful film on Kisore Kumar which will not be a parody of that era and of that artist.
Rest for others prayas karne mein kya harz hai
gaal bajane mein kya harz hai. dunia hai. jeevan hai. democracy hai aur Bombay hai jahan koi bhi kuch bhil bol deta hai, kar jata hai.
Kishor Kumar was an outsider in Bombay.;)
Now why did I not think about Gulzar.. Kishoreda was his favorite? Most of songs in his films are sung by Kishoreda and Asha-ji. Was it because of RD Burman factor or Gulzar saab or both?
There are atleast 2 good documentaries on Kishor Kumar. They will certainly be using those but from where they will bring actors who could play Madhubala, Ashok Kumar etc and above all Kishore Kumar?
Why dont they make it in animation?:-? He is not out of mind of people that they need to bring anyone to enact him so that his memories can remain alive. They are already alive so why Harakiri ?
@H.G,
You are not making a film so its fine that you did/could not think about Gulzar, but those who are brining commerce in, on the name of Kishore Kumar they should have thought if they are serious about making a genuine film on Kishore Kumar.
Right person for a given subject is battle 90% won. rest just to make something anybody can make his kind of film on Kishore Kumar.
Like Bhagat Singh, audience may see “A’s KK” “B’s KK” etc etc etc etc .:-?
@HG: actually, the female voice in majority of the songs in Gulzar’s films is Lata Mangeshkar not Asha Bhosle. Think Aandhi, Kinara, Parichay, Khushboo, Mausam, Libaas, Maachis, Hu Tu Tu. I’m not mentioning lekin because that was an LM produced movie. Ijaazat, Namkeen and Angoor were probably the only Gulzar films where Asha Bhosle was the main female voice. Otherwise, she sang just a few songs in the other films.
BTW, Meera is probably the only Gulzar film where the songs were not sung by ether Lata and Asha. They were sung by Vani Jayaram. it is believed that Lata Mangeshkar had refused to sing for Meera because she had sung Meera bhajans for her brother a few years before that.
Then who/which was composer (apart from RD Burman, i think) that preferred Asha compare to Lata?!
ps you seem to be a big fan of Gulzarsaab…
@HG
O.P.Nayyar
What is the story behind that? I have read about it.. but don’t remember much…
@HG OP Nayyar…He was largely responsible for making Asha what she is today. RDB came much later. O P Nayyar is probably the only successful composer of that time who didn’t use Lata’s voice even once.
Talking of RDB, I believe that despite his relationship with Asha, some of his best songs have been sung by Lata. that’s just my opinion…others can refute that.
And yes, I’m a BIG fan of Gulzaar saab.
Did you guys do film/Music study or what? Only kidding! It is good to have so many knowledgeable people here.. better than googling. Or is it you lot are from old-skool era
I remember reading in news that O.P.Nayyar declined the prestigious Lata Mangeshkar award.
Would really like to know who decides these things. I mean it really doesn’t make sense to give O.P.Nayyar an award named after Lataji. It’s like giving Guru Dutt a Raj Kapoor award or vice versa.
Now that is a bit daft and an insult…
@ RK,
I agree with Gulzar.
I am not sure about Benegal. Granted he’ll do apt research but his way of directing the movie lacks a punch. I didn’t like what he did with the story of Bose. Even Making of Mahatma didn’t made a great impression on me.
Neither did I like what he did with Bose. I was very disappointed after watching the film. The film lacked a personality..
By the way, Benegal, is coming with a comedy, this year…Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur..
“The film lacked a personality”…there you said it. thats precisely what I wanted to say..thanks.
Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur..if I am not wrong this is his first attempt at comedy isn’t it?
yeah.. apparently so.. his first attempt at comedy genre.
The News is not sounding good to me.. If the makers are hard core kishore da fans, they would never make a film on him… A fictional work would be an insult.. Kishore da the person is hardly 10% we know as 90% of Kishore in unexplored.. Kishore da never let it come out..
On what facet of his these film makers would make a film.. Kishore da the person? the mad genuis or the soulful renderer, the creative and sensitive film maker or the mad mad film maker, the great comic actor or the finest imitator.. the singer, director, producer, music director, the stage performer.. event the poet? the friend of few or the enemy of many.. his jokes and pranks or the unknown facet of him.. his kisse of misery, or the unknown facts when he helped people who really needed it..
his “dont care about the world be happy” or his loneliness, marriages, breakups…
… banate banate makers ki peediyaan khatm ho jaayengi, kishore da nahin..
BTW a fantastic non fictional tribute is paid thru a documentary on Kishore da by Sandip Ray (son of Satyajit Ray) titled Zindagi ek safar.. Even if the makers can help in releasing that documentary for everyone, it would be a great service for all kishore da fans…
if i had to guess then the film could be mostly about…..
RK ji, I agree wholeheartedly that any film on Kishore should be directed by Gulzar. The other candidate I would’ve thought to be perfect for the job has, unfortunately, passed on. The great Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
But the Gulzar saheb who so made such wonderfully balanced films as Parichay (perfect blend of soul, light-hearted innocence, sensitivity and a dash of philosophy) is the Gulzar saheb required to do justice to the LIFE story of Kishoreda.
Pawan, as for the “facets” of Kishoreda’s life the film will likely deal with, I believe it will be the interested juxtaposition of “the mad genuis” and “the soulful renderer”.
The time he spent in his garden alone contrasted with such crazy antics as not painting the a pillar in his living room just so people would ask about it (or the many monkey skulls, or literally running away from G.P. Sippy ji, only to refuse to recognize him, and then coming to the recording studio the next day as if nothing had happened).
Did he do such things because he was genuinely a “mad genius” or was there something more lying behind the madness.
I for one am very interested in seeing just how this film is put together.

Kishore Kumar
Nagesh Kukunoor has just announced their next film Kishoreda, based on the
life of the late singer-actor-producer Kishore Kumar. The film deals with
Kishore’s professional and personal life. However, Leena Chandavarkar
Ganguly, Kishore’s wife is miffed that no one from the production house
bothered to take permission before writing the script and announcing it. In
fact, she herself is in the process of making a film on the legendary
singer.
Leena Chandavarkar
When contacted Leena Ganguly said, “Yes, I am very upset and it is very
wrong on their part to just announce a film on my late husband without even
asking me. It is not a piece of fiction that they are making. They have
named the film Kishoreda. They should have come and met me or my son Amit
Kumar before going ahead with the film. We had earlier got an offer from
Shoojit Sarkar who had spoken to my son Sumeet about the film. Unfortunately
Shoojit got busy with other films and didn’t start it. We have also planned
to make a film on him and the scripting is already in progress. How can
someone just make a film on Kishore Kumar and not even consult us?”
Leena adds, “We have no objection to anyone making a film on Kishoreji as
his story has many ups and downs, but isn’t it unethical on their part to do
so without seeking our permission? We would have happily helped them and
even given them inputs. I think Kishoreji is probably one of the few
filmmakers who is loved and respected, he has a huge fan following even two
decades after his demise. Nagesh is a fantastic filmmaker and I have loved
his Dor and Iqbal, but it is the producer’s duty to contact us. I was
shocked when I started getting calls from people in the industry asking me
if the film was being made. We have not given the right to make a film on my
husband to anyone.”
Whoever makes the film, I want the audience to be moved and numb after they come out of the theatres. As Pavan said, we dont know the full kishoreda yet. Leena, Amit and Ruma have to be consulted before finalizing the script. One just cannot make a film on Kishoreda based on ridiculous stories ( half of them are made up ) and rumours , in various books/magazines.
But I am still happy that a commercial man like Nagesh is involved and not some people , who come to the Ganguly’s, for their personal interests.
I think Amit Kumar would be able to do a good film on kishore, with a technical co-director. He had done a live show in Kolkata in 1992 wheere he paid a tribute to kishoreda. It was almost like a small script based play. It was called “Dui Kishore”. Those who have heard the cassette and understood it, can definitely vouch for its sincerety and passion. I had spoken with Amitda after that a few times and he had given me an idea as to how much better he could do a film on Kishoreda.
However Amit told me that some people showed him big dreams of making a film 3 years back. They told Amit that they could get finance for a Hollywood kind of film with special effects and all, where Kishoreda could come “live” in the film !! Finally as it HAD to happen, Amitda’s dreams were shattered.
Now the Ganguly’s are extra cautious whenever a film is being planned on Kishoreda.
How many version of Kisohreda will be there?! 3 or four?!!
it depends on how Nagesh’s film turns out :-w
Tomorrow Nagesh will be on ‘K For Kishore’ show and will be announcing the film - ‘Kishoreda’ and the winner will sing the songs for the soundtrack.
:d/
Kishore Kumar had entertained the viewers with his multi-talented singing style for more than 30 years. Within that span he was specially indebted to RD Burman who had given him immortal tunes.
In true sense Kishoreda was indebted to K L Saigal, S D Burman and Khemchand Prakash only. He had highest respect towards Anil Biswas and Dev Anand - for standing with him when at all times.
Kishore never thought about any other artiste/person, so high, in the industry.
Rest were part and parcel of his career ( acting , singing, etc ).
Regarding Kishore & R D Burman-Lata Mangeshkar, yes they had great respect towards each other’s capabilities. It was a mutually benefitting for all of them. Kishore used to praise Lata openly. Kishore never praised RDB openly. He always used to privately praise and motivate him. RD on the other hand has openly said that Kishore was the only male singer he thought of, at all times.
yaar HG…Nagesh came in the show only for 5 mins. he confirmed that the film is on and that he will come in forthcoming episodes to choose one contestant to sing songs for “Kishoreda” !
I will be catching that later. I wasn’t expecting him to stay their till the end. I don’t think it is his kind of stuff.
So basically he came to announce what Rediff had said…

‘Kishoreda is my dream project’
Kukunoor clears the air about his upcoming film, personal life and a lot more
—————–
Filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor has stationed himself as a judge on the reality show K for Kishore on Sony TV with an intention to scout for a voice to match the late singer’s voice in his next film, Kishoreda
Tell us about your film Kishoreda.
Kishoreda is a biopic on the late singer-actor Kishore Kumar’s life. It will be a story about his personal and professional life. It had been on my mind for years now. I have always admired him ever since I was a teenager. To quote a clich
Guys and Bails
Sorry for offtopic question
I have some startling discovery today and would not find peace of mind till I find the answer for it :
I got hold of a Karaoke track which has a very big prelude to the song “Ye Dil Na Hota Bechara”
And to add to my confusion, I have got the lyrics for this prelude, which means Kishore Kumar sings the following lyrics “before” the legendary Hmmmmmmmm begins :
hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey
hey hey
hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey hey hey hey
Then the LEGENDARY humming starts
hmmmmmm
zooo zooo zooo zoooo zooo zooo zooo
tirdi eee eee eee
——————
I am uploading the Karaoke track of the prelude for you guys.
http://download.yousendit.com/68250B1F55378355
In the track, the first 1.05 minutes is some strange music ( of which I seek the original, if at all it exists - lyrics given above ) and then the standard humming starts
Now is there any other version (prelude ) of the KK song that I am not aware of ? I am sorry if it is the case and I dont know ( I am not aware of most of the RARE stuff comming out of the stables of “collectors”, these days
)
Help me please !
kcp
–
kcp - that’s the normal version of the song. It does start with the hey, hey hey hey hey hey hey. Often that part is omitted and the song starts with hmmmm. But the original has the hey hey bit
KCP, did you watch tonight’s episode of K For Kishore? Nagesh was through out the show and he will be in tomorrow’s episode as well. it seems he is quite interested and excited about the film.
btw, k for kishore show is so scripted - the audience is always same - they always show same so-so fit gals?
Yup. I saw Nagesh and somehow disagreed or had different opinions on some of his comments.
One of them being, that he liked the song “Mach Gaya Shor Saari Nagari Re” - AFTER he heard Chintan….before that he was not liking this and similar kind of Kishore-songs !!! MY FOOT. Yaar Original to Kishoreda ne gaaya tha na !!
Anyways let us see how far “this” Kishore-bhakt goes
He is supposed to be on the show till he finds “his-Kishore” :d
Yup….infact there was an article a few days back, how people ( young guys and gals ) are employed these days as the “studio-audience”. It has opened a new arena for awaara kind of guys to flock the studios and earn daily allowances !!
Subrat…would love to have the original with hey hey!!
Actually ( riddle solved by a few friends on a different group ) the humming is exactly like the humming of the song “Aye Haseenon Naazneenon Main Dil Hatheli Pe Leke Aa Gaya Hoon” - film “Chacha Zindabaad” ( http://music.cooltoad.com/music/song.php?id=330086)
Areah KCP.. he has to say something - he cannot start saying - “You Rocked” and “God Bless You” (he did not use any of those cliche phrases, though)- can he now?! He seems like a fish out off water, though.
Amit Kumar’s comment are legendary - he says from dil se.
How much do they get paid? You know, I would not be surprised, if the winner will be fixed. And I thought the show was meant to be a realityy show, but it doesn’t look like it.
Nopes but I was genuinely pissed off with the “bhakt” sitting inside Nagesh.
I know he was true to himself when he said that he did not like such and such kind of songs….I have no problems with ones kind of choices in life..but liking the song more , “after” listening to a third grade Kishore clone ? :-w
Oh yes AK comes to the point and pinpoints the correct mistakes most of the times….though sometimes I get irritated with his cricket-shot repititive comments :d
I am not aware of this kind of shows where there is no income and the show is short duration ( 16 episodes or so )….The Saregamapa, II, VOI judges are paid quite handsomely. But considering that AK has sacrificed many of his stage show dates ( which is his only big source of income ), I am sure they must be paying him pretty well.
I have a feeling right after 4 / 5 episodes that they are trying to make Nayan the winner ( and most of my “teers” in most competitions are right on the “nishaana” :d/ )
those crickets comments of his are best - and he always shows a bit of batting action… that cracks me up!
yeap, he is always direct with his comments - and always comes up with something new to say. where as other two are quite bland compare to him. but still they sometimes come up with funny stuff.
i think, Sudesh Bhosle is the real Kishore Bhakt.. in the show.
i think, Sudesh Bhosle is the real Kishore Bhakt.. in the show.
I don’t agree….anyways…today nagesh chose top 6 - amanat, nayan, chintan, shailendra, arnab & milind. I think chetan was deserving…..let’s see how the drama unfolds :d
——-
kcp..Tell me sincerely..do you believe in the programme quality..ok..they are decent singers but cloning Kishoreda!!!???!!!
I believe in the programme quality only because of 3 reasons :
)
1) It is a tribute to the legend, about whom many people are passionate about ( hey this is PFC
2) It has no SMS voting and less drama on stage ( drama is in appropriate proportions so as to keep busy, the minds of the reality-show-audience in the world :d )
3) It has Amit Kumar as the with most of the veto power. Sudesh is ok as a mimic-judge. Bappi has a huge association with KK and though he cannot express properly on TV, he has the knack of judging the participants capability
I think the show is not to get a Kishore clone but to have fun with the format, which is a breath of fresh air in the current reality-soap operas
http://www.deccan.com/Sunday%20Chronicle/Sunday%20ChronicleDescription.asp#
What is wrong with Sudesh Bhosle?! Did you see Amit Kumar criticizing Rex!? That was class - We’re the Judge - We are not seating here for nothing….
I agree with you KCP on the show but sometimes the shows seems so fixed because the show is not LIVE, which it should have been…
And you know that singer Ali Zafar? He copies Kishreda - he has copied quite few of old kishoreda’s songs - and he exactly sounds like Kishoreda. He should have been in the show.
Yaar nothing is wrong as such…but his comments are cheeky at times. Very few times he is to the point. His stage precence/mimicry is splendid and he did a few shows with kishoreda, thats it ( Sudesh was the son-in-law of the band owner, for whom Kishore used to sing all the time in the 80’s ).
Yes regarding Rex it was funny that Sony created a drama to show how right he was in exiting from the show. In my opinion, he was downright third-class in singing “kishore songs”
Yes the most of the episodes “these days” are pre-recorded and it can be easily noticed.
Somehow I dont like Ali Zafar’s voice yaar. I was surprised when so many people said to me that he did a good job in “Chal Dil Mere” I however disagreed with them. Although I know that he is quite a humble man ( with respect to the comparisons made by people with Kishore )
I wanted somebody like Sameer Memon but with more force and energy in the voice and being always in Sur
Such candidate would have been an ideal Kishore-ke-kareeb.
I don’t think he is being cheeky - he just tries to be funny with his voices. Only Amit Kumar is spot on with the performances. Where as other two are sometimes biased towards to the contestants.
I haven’t watched early episodes of the show because I found it a bit cheap and gimmickry, but got hooked to the show because of Amit Kumar.
SO I only have seen a few performances of Sameer Memon - he was quite good - he did the act during his performances and all. But he got a bit cocky with the judges, didn’t he?
Arnab is a professional singer and he is good as well.
I agree that the show sometimes becomes too artificial. But atleast they are sticking to their concept and wastimg minimum time of the public by keeping away from dramas, always hurrying up so that the singers and judges get the maximum air time.
Yup..Sameer was one egoistic guy. I wish he was more humble. But I always liked his choice of songs. He tried to be different and also succeeded in a fair amount.
I like Milind more than Arnab…dont know why..maybe regional bias ( :p ) or maybe due to his out-of-the-world Marathi album GAARVA. This album according to me, is one of the best gifts that any artist can give to common listeners.
KCP, have you seen the tonight’s episode? they are doing some dramabazi in it - the contestants have the power to kick out someone - and it is Ammanat, i think..
i will be watching it later..
Yup saw it. But I dont think that contestants would have the power to kick out.
Ya Amanat and Apurva are the weak links acc to me
Did you get all the director’s challenge?
And did you see Arnab get the thumbs up from all the judges?
Yup. I got all :d/ .
Yaa…Arnab sang quite well yesterday. I felt that Chetan was also equally good.
I hear that you are a kishorebhakt, so I am going to ask you a question and other well-informed…..
So far I have 31 songs of Kishore Kumar:
Suniye Kahiye
Wada Hai Kya Kya Hai Kasam
Ek Ajnabe Haseena Se
Diwane Le Ke Aaye Hai
Jeevan Se Bhari Teri Aankhen
Tum Ho Mere Dil Ki Dhadkan
Kahan Tak Ye Man Ko
Tera Saath Hai Kitna Pyara
Kehdoon Tumhen
Tu Kya Jane
Honthon Pe Jaan Chali Jayegi
Mere Dil Ne Tadap Ke
Kya Yahi Pyar Hai
Aise Na Mujhe
Saagar Kinare
Jani O Jani
Pyar Manga Hai
Dilsey Miley Dil
Dil Kya Kare
Nahin Nahin Abhi Nahin
Dilbar Mere
Main Pyasa Tum Sawan
Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas
Koi Roko Na
Kitne Bhi Tu Karle Sitam
Bhanware Ki Gunjan
Mere Sapnon Ki Rani
Khilte Hein Gul Yahan
Chhu Kar Mere Man Ko
Raat Kali Ek Khwab Men Aai
Jaane Jaan Dhoondata
And I want to increase that list, so which albums (it should not include any of the above songs) of his should I buy…. I prefer songs like Kahan Tak Mann Ko..
I am trying to put down only the solos ( else it would be a long list for me to type and not copy paste :p ). I have tried to put the mix of famous and relatively unknown songs. So it would be a great excercise to get all of them ( I would recommend to go first to http://www.hamaracd.com ). Then to google and I am sure you can find most of the songs in audio cd compilations / websites for download. Be sure that the efforts would be worth it.
I hope that the participants sings some of the unknown gems.
I call this list SSSS ( Sad-Smooth-Sentimental-Slow )…Other members, please correct or add to my list. I must have forgotten a few gems which are in this category

This weeks episodes were disappointing - koi dhamaka performance nahi tha..
Thanks KCP, I will try to find some of the album which willl have the songs you have mentioned.
Ya. I agreed with Nagesh regarding his comments on Milind ( where the other judges had praised Milind )
KCP, by using Hamaracd I can create my own compilation cd, right? Just like iTunes. Nice. Is it cheaper than iTunes?
Yup…I used Hamaracd many years back ( when it was launched ) and looted from it all the khazana that I wanted >:d<.
Then I have seen many websites like yahoo-music, itunes, emusic.com, etc etc, who tied up with hamaracd and offered the same songs ( could be cheaper )…I have not done the study of pricing for the past 5 years or so
kcp
KCP,
Chintan did a rock ‘n roll version of “Maro Bhar Bhar Pichakari” and then Sudesh Bhosle joined him. Now I liked that version. Also Nagesh Kuknoor came on the stage to support them.
They all are crazy. Did they have bhang or what?!
And I hate the nautakin by the contestants: “He should stay and I will go” - I mean, why they hell did you come to show, then?
Also, did you see the glimpses of the next episode?! They are doing remixes of kishoreda songs and Amit Kumar is so peeved, the he affronts the DJ and Babul. And did you see Bappida?! lol
PS I ain’t never going to buy an LG phone!
Yesss…this episode was quite interesting. Chintan sang really well. They were having real masti on the stage. Nagesh seemed to be in a “romantic” mood too, flirting with the girl :d
When Amanat was singing well, I was like - Milind ab tu to gaya. It was quite a straightforward exit-system today !!
Next episode, Amit Kumar is blasting right-left-centre to remixes. It will be a great experience. AK had told me that he did one or two times experiments with the remixes to understand the process ( with DJ Akbas Sami - Daddy Mix etc ) but was pissed off in the genre.
It will be real fun to see the reactions of all others !!
Yes with Babul holding the phone, I will dare not buy a LG !! :d
It looks like a single film, however long it is, is not long enough to capture a complex personality like Kishore Kumar, so such a film may prove to be a futile attempt. Kishore Kumar was many personalities rolled into one, with tremendous gift of originality in many spheres. It would be a challenge for anyone to make a film on him. Artists like Kishore Kumar are speciall made by god, and no amount of training can ever make such artists, such people are always once and only once kind of. Even Kishore’s own son is not a patch on him, he cannot be, because a genius is a genius, a special gift of god, and he himself cannot grant it to anyone else, he just lives with it and leaves his memory behind. Kishore is still ruling the hearts of millions even after 20 years of his death, and there is no singer after him who is even close to him in depth and range, and voice quality. There are many young men who were born after Kishore’s death and yet are big kishore fans so much that they listen only to him, so effective kishores voice is. This director is taking a huge risk of portraying the genius.
Agreed P with almost all your points.
Having said that there is a slight difference of opinion. As I said before, if the script and editing is “powerful enough” the various salient points of his life could be shown in a revelaing and effective way.
And one bad news I hheard ( could be false and just a rumour, but it is come directly to me from a film maker/script-writer/director, details about whom cannot be disclosed )that the script of NK’s film is not so good and it does not do justice at all. Lets see. If this is true, it would be one of the most dangerous thing to serious film makers who are/were planning to do a serious-minded effort to show Kishore Kumar to the cinema goers. I simply hope that it is not one of the TV-soap-kind of jerky cinema made on him, cashing on KK’s saleable power these days.
KCP, my partner in crime, did you watch the remix episode? What did you think? I thought it was a big joke? How did Shailendra get more points than Arnab?
Chetan’s perfomance was the best, though. Apart from Chetan’s and Arnab’s perfomance.. rest of ‘em were rubbish. It was a joke.
And Bappida… what can I say about him… “Anand Anubhav”
Yes…I watched ( ye bhi koyi poochhne ki baat hai
)…
it was actualy a big crime to listen to this remix episode!!
Amit gave Shailendra marks in the josh ( previous drama related josh barqaraar rakhna tha na ) :d
I agreed with “every” comment of yours & Nagesh’s today ( for a change ) :d
I like the texture of Shailendra’s voice…but the finishing touches he gives to most of the words words and sentences is aweful. I hope he is eliminated and Anil/Milind comes back ( as per the visphotak results tomorrow
) I dont know why Sony gives unnecessary credit ( tum bahot famous ho rahe ho ) to Shailendra.
Arnab is anyday anytime better singer than him.
Hahahaa..Bappi looked like a Kindergarten kid in a fancy dres competition :d
I am always right, KCP!
What is with the show’s policy of kicking people out and brining some in? That way nobody is going to win! ‘Sides, it is so unfair on other contestants. The rules should have been same through out the show. Rules are just getting ridiculous.
Ammant will have to sing “Baade Kaam Ka Bandar” song from tomorrow…
BTW, have they done a semi-classical Kishorda songs theme yet? Or he hasn’t sung that many semi classical songs?
It was April Fool :d
I was surprised to hear the rule and lost complete interest in the format..lekin Channel ne achcha khaasa ulloo banaya sabko
It was a “very” touching moment ( for me atleast ) to see the emotional Amanat & Amit Kumar.
Yes you are right…barring a few instances where he “tried” singing classical ( ofcourse all film songs are semi classical ) like “Paayal Waali Dekhna (Ek Raaz)….he has not “sung” many. Regarding composing, he has composed a few ( especially his bengali non-film gems, the best of them being the song of Lata, “Bhaalobaashaar Aagun Jwele” ).
With regards to singing in various raagas, he has many songs in his kitty. Regards to difficult songs, he has a huge number. However he always believed in simple singing which would touch public’s hearts.
This is what he says in the Illustrated Weekly Interview 1985 ( where he announced that he wanted to quit film singing )…It could give a good food for thoughts for the established and wannabe producers/directors/music-directors on PFC :
I am an actor first. I am an actor who sings off screen for another actor. This is what “playback” singing is all about. Songs should follow the mind of the actor on screen. It can be gramatically perfect, you know, with all those embellishments that the ustaads are good at, only if you are singing for a film on say, the life of Taansen.
I could not believe it! Showwaaleh paas kuch toh kaal hain..
Anyway, I would have preferred Shailendra had gone. He was as poor as Ammanat in the both rounds.
Who do you think Nagesh is going to pick for the film? I hope it is Arnab.
So he has sung those kinda (difficult) songs - then the show should have a theme on that.
Nagesh is changing his choices between Arnab, Cintan, Chetan & Nayan. I guess anybody of them could be the winner. Nayan and Chintan have ( I think) the support of the channel. Arnab and Chetan, if they win, it would be great. I am sure the competition would get tough as the day passes. I think they should sing some different but charming songs to impress the judges. They have not really sung the zappy and comedy songs like “Kunvein Mein Kood Ke Mar Jaana” (Parivaar), or Gaana Na Aaya (Miss Mary), or as you said some classical nos ( I prefer the non-film Bengali nos like “Amaar Dweep Nebhano Raat” or “Noyono Soroshi Keno” ) . I am sure that whoever attempts them and does 50% of what Kishoreda did, I am sure the judges would be impressed.
I hope Nagesh uses Amit Kumar for a few songs.
kcp and any other Kishoreda fans,
I’m looking for a song from the movie Humshakal, sung by Kishoreda which goes like - Rasta dekhe tera, vyakul mann mera - Can you pass on that song to me, if you have it? I tried looking for that song everywhere on the net and in the stores but with no luck.
Thanks Amit for adding this awesome song to my list mentioned above.
you can listen to the song at :
http://www.emusic.com/album/Asha-Bhosle-Asha-Bhosle-Kishore-Kumar-Chorus-Humshakal-MP3-Download/10838763.html
if you have purchased Internet Download Manager, you get the song automatically on your hard disk ( without logging to esnips ).
Thanks Amit for addint this awesome song to my above-mentioned list.
It could be heard at esnips.com and couldbe automatically downloaded if you have internet download manager, latest version ( without logging on to esnips )
Since Saturday’s show I have been listening to Kishoreda’s Paisa song from Karz.
o hansini (Zehrila?)
Jidhar DekhooN (Mahaan)
Manzile apni jagah (Sharaabi)
Sagar jaisi aankho waali(Sagar)
Aise na mujhe tum dekho seene se laga loonga
Chal kahiN door nikal jaaye (Doosra Aadmi)
Zindagi aa rahaa huN main (Mashaal)
Hey KCP,
Can you please upload those KK interviews again? Or if possible mail them to mailpratik-at-gmail-dot-com.
Does anyone here have those mp3
Good ones Adhik…..I would not include Jidhar Dekhoon (more because the Amitabh’s version falls in this category of SSSS ), Chal Kahin Door ( Duet & Rafi version to be in SSSS ) & Zindagi Aa Raha ( not in HG’s category of SSSS )
Nevertheless good contributions
Pratik @85 - sure I will try and do it as soon as I have a PC with an upload capability internet connection. Office PC and handheld PC cannot upload
The song in which Kishoreda’s voice was best IMO, has to be Surma mera nirala from Kabhi Andhera Kabhi Ujala. Note the modulation he gives to his voice effortlessly, which can be heard in Sonu’s voice these days.
And kcp, that link didn’t work. Thanks nonetheless. Still looking for Rasta dekhe tera, Anyone?
Heard that Ashaji is coming as the judge on K For Kishore. If it is true then it is good news.
Lets see if Nagesh and Asha come to the same choice, with the winner
Kishore releases his own biography.
http://download.yousendit.com/5B727D3B18065A8D
Can somebody please tell me which one is this ?
yeah, saw that Asha promo last night. She might be on tonight’s show.
K For Kishore should have been live telecast. What’s the point of having a back to back song theme, if the singers get a break in between?
I think she will be in the final episodes.
It was just a “theme” - Dard se Disco tak :d
Amit,

KCP,
today’s episode was rubbish; i didn’t like it. hope it is better tomorrow. how is shailendra still in the show?! he is utter crap.
it will be between arnab v shailendra tomorrow, i reckon.
Yup…lets hope that he is kicked out. I would prefer Chintan getting out before Arnab
KCP,
Again Chetan was in a top form. Rest of ‘em were utter rubbish. It was good to see Nayan and Shailendra get some proper comments.
And again, Amit Kumar comes up with some best quotes, “Sur pe dyahn do aur sab buckwaas hain” - something like that.
BTW, do you guys know Amit Kumar very well? If so, would it be possible for you guys to do an interview of him?! There aren’t that many interviews of him.
yes Chetan was superb last week too.
Yes Amit kumar speaks from his heart.I have a few interviews of his…my first meet with him I had recorded a fairly long one…will try and send you some of them.
Today Ashaji\s message was very important ( for strugglers in the industry ) :
Khemchand Prakash ji ka gaana tha, aur Mahalakshmi Famous mein main aur Kishoreda gaa rahe the gaana….Aur jab hum gaa rahe the to Robin Chatterjee recordist aaye aur unhone aake music director se ya producer se kaha ke ye awaazein bahot kharaab hai, ye gaana nahin gaa sakte hain. Aur mujhe aur Kishoreda ko reject kar diya aur Guruji ne aake kaha ke “beta phir karenge, aaj cancel karo” karke nilaal diya…aur main aur Kishoreda sadak par ahista ahista chalte chalte Grant Road station tak chalte chalte gaye…bade dukhi hoke gaye “ke kya..” .
Lekin us waqt humne ye socha ke “nahin kuch karenge…”
Uske bahot dinon baad jab Kishoreda as an actor hero Top pe..aur gaana gaane ke liye hum doosre recording theatre mein wohi recordist the Robin Chatterjee..aur Kishoreda ne unko dekha aur mujhe kaha “dekh villian baitha hai”…aur gaana bataati hoon “Armaan Bhare Dil Ki Lagan Tere Liye Hai ” ye gaana tha…baad mein Geeda di ne aur Talat Mehmood ji ne gaaya tha. Lekin hum is baat se peechhe nahin hate ya bhaag nahin gaye , humne balke zor lagaya aur bata diya. Phir unhi ko hamaare gaane record karke wah wah karna padta tha.
Iska matlab hai ki aap mehnat keejiye.
It was quite a shocking exit of Nayan. I am sure that the judges had no balls to say anything to Ashaji
It was a pity that Shailendra remained and Nayan went out.
I guess Chetan’s path is clear now.
Even Nagesh was missing !
Thanks kcp for that amazing song! I’m indebted.
Shailendra was shite, but he did outsing Nayan when Ashjai asked both of them to sing “Yeh Jo Mohabhat Hain”. I so knew Nayan would go and am happy that he has gone. He is overrated. I don’t know why judges rate him so high!
However, by rules Shailendra should have gone as he did get the lowest mark.
Anyway, I hope Shailendra goes next week and then Arnab - he is doing a lot of nautanki lately!
Yep, Chetan to win!
Dont know where Nagesh disappeared.
Anyways Arnab was mindblowing. Chetan was also superb as always
My guess is Chetan !!
yeah, I know, they have not told where he has gone. i suppose he had his forthcoming film’s soundtrack release party. but it takes only a day.
Yep, it will be between Arnab v Chetan, unless Chitan removes the ‘kharaas’ from his voice.
the series is finally ending; they have stretched it for far longer, but it feels like an abrupt end now.
KCP, I think, Arnab will win it after last nights performance. They had ridiculous number of judges. Quite pointless. BTW, tonight a new reality show - “Yeh Shaam Mastani” - on the line of ‘K of Kishore’, is sort of tribute to RD Burman. Will be interesting.
Yup…Arnab is declared as the winner
Will be interesting to see who will get to sing in Nagesh’s film. I think he should try out at least one song of Nayan & Chetan , in the film.
It was absolute shocking for me to know that Nagesh chose Chintan. Acc to me he was absolutely disgusting in ’sur’ department. I hope the film does not lead in the same shocking manner
I am now fully convinced ( after hearing Nagesh’s comment that he ‘knew’ 3 weeks back !) that there is some foul play in bringing Chintan so far in the show.
Poor Chetan…
It was a very poor poor final! The editor kept showing same clips over and over. The Delhi guy and Nayan Kumar were making love. Yuck! Babul shouting and then they had LG guy on the show. it was totally rubbish. I should have watched Snooker!
Yes I agree that the final was very poor in terms of content and hurriedly finished. Its sad.

UTV Motion Pictures is planning to produce a movie on Indian film industry’s legendary playback singer Kishore Kumar. The film will be directed by Shoojit Sircar.
The film is being scripted by Renzil D’Silva. The movie is being made with the consent of Kishore Kumar’s family comprising his wife Leena Chandavarkar and sons Amit Kumar and Sumit Kumar.
Kishore Kumar’s family made the announcement of the film today in Mumbai to commemorate the 79th birth anniversary of the singer.
Amit Kumar said, “It was Shoojit Sircar who approached us and told us that he was a great admirer of our father and that he wanted to make an biopic on him. The producer and director have aggreed to take our consent on every scene that will be shot for the film. The film will encompass his entire life from his birth to his entry into Bombay and the struggle he faced when his elder brother Ashok Kumar forced him to act in films. The film will showcase his professional life as an actor, music director and singer as well as his personal life - his four marriages… everything negative and positive.”
Sumit Kumar added, “It is not an easy subject to make and it is entirely the director’s prerogative on who he wants to cast in the movie. The film will encapsulate his life and struggle.”
At the time of filing this report, UTV Motion Pictures officials declined to make any comments on the project.
Apart from the director, the rest of the cast and crew of the film has not yet been decided.
“Baba (Kishore Kumar) was like an ocean. His life has so many things that people will be really interested to know. I think this will be a good attempt to remember the singer- actor as well as take him close to his fans. It will have all the negative and positive aspects of his life,” said Amit, who is son of Kishore and his first wife Ruma Guha Thakurta.
“This film is the first bio-epic to be made on a Bollywood personality and perhaps second one after Gandhi to be made on any Indian personality,” he said.
It was his (Sircar’s) idea to make the film and he has done all the research,” said Sumit,
“I brought Shoojit home to discuss the idea with mummy and ‘bhaiya’ (Amit Kumar) They liked the idea and he went forward with it,” added Sumit.
Sumit said the responsibility of casting lies with the director and he has not yet finalized anyone yet, but, he confirmed that no one from the family will be seen in the film.
Leena Ganguly thanked UTV for taking the initiative and said: “Making a film on a real life character is very difficult. I am happy that the company and Shoojit have taken such a step to pay tribute to the great artist who has entertained the masses for decades.”
However, Amit said the company has signed an agreement with the family in which it will be bound to show them the final script and shoot according to it.
“If it plans for any change, they will have to take permission from us. Though, we will not be in front the camera, but will be constantly involved in the project from behind it,” Amit said.
KCP, one of the author just mentioned that, interesting!! What is happening with Nagesh’s Kishoreda film? There hasn’t been much about the film in the news after K For Kishore?! Has it?
i miss k for kishore. there is nothing decent on tv at the moment!
Which author said ? Yes there is absolutely no news about Nagesh’s film. Nagesh made a big mistake of announcing the film without taking the Ganguly’s into consideration. Lets see how it goes further
quite confusing :
http://www.mid-day.com/entertainment/2008/aug/050808Leena-Chandavarkar-biopic-Kishore-Kumar1.htm
Kishore Kumar would have been pleased at the deal his wife Leena
Chandavarkar struck with UTV to producea film based on his life.
It’s a partnership deal struck with UTV and Kishore Kumar’s family:
Leena, Amit Kumar and Sumit, where the profits will be shared along
with the producer. Not just that, Kishore’s family have sold the story
rights for Rs 5 crore to UTV.
Initially Percept was to produce the film and Nagesh Kukunoor was to
direct it but now UTV is producing it and Shoojit Sarkar will be
directing it.
Anjaane pehlu
UTV’s Ram Mirchandani says they can’t talk about it till the deal is
signed. But Leena admits, “Yes UTV has bought the rights. Percept was
never to produce the film nor was Nagesh to direct. Percept announced
the film without asking us. It was always Shoojit’s idea to make a
film on my husband. Shoojit Sarkar is a good director and close family
friend.” Rensel D’ Silva is writing the script.
Talking about the biopic on Kishore, Leena says, “My husband was a
flamboyant star who led an extremely colorful life and the film will
be as true to life as possible without hurting anyone’s sentiments as
lot of people including his ex-wives like Ruma Guha Thakurta and
Yogita Bali are still alive.
The film will show my husband as a singer, actor, father and husband
joh pehlu kisi ne dekha ya pata hai. The story has an emotionally
moving end the audience will come out crying. Yesterday was his 21st
death anniversary. He would have been 79 years old today.”
Return to acting
She laughs off the speculation that the film starts with Leena meeting
Kishore, “This is not true. The film starts from his birth at Khandwa
to the end of his life. Amit and I are giving our inputs. I am the
last and final chapter for him.” She might even act in the film, “If
the director wants me to, I will. But my age is such that I can’t play
Leena but his mother or sister or aunt.”
Leena says she doesn’t mind returning to films. “I had TV serial
offers but they didn’t materialise. If the role suits me, I don’t mind
coming back to films or TV.”

Writer Rensil D’Silva is puzzled by the haste shown in announcing legendary singer Kishore Kumar’s biopic and his name as the writer of the project. He says it will take him a year to put together the story of a man as ‘colourful, versatile and unpredictable’ as the singer.
‘The whole idea of announcing the project, long before things had even begun to fall in place, was to cash in on Kishoreda’s 79th birthday (Aug 4). The fact is nothing is ready yet. It would take at least a year, if not more, for this ambitious project to concretise,’ D’Silva told IANS on phone from New York.
‘It is a daunting task to put together (a biopic) on a man as colourful, versatile, adventurous and unpredictable as Kishore Kumar.’
D’Silva is best known for his screenplay for ‘Rang De Basanti’. He is currently in the process of directing an untitled thriller that will star Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi.
‘I’m currently in New York finalising locations for the film that I’m going to direct for Karan Johar. So I really don’t know what’s going on back home.’
Shouldn’t he have been present when the Kishore Kumar project was announced?
‘I guess so,’ the reticent writer said. ‘They must’ve their reason for announcing the project when they did. I haven’t started any work on it. I’ve just heard that I’m doing it.
‘The film’s director Shoojit Sircar and I have known each other for years. When I was told he was helming the project, I didn’t hesitate.’
But he doesn’t know how to approach the mammoth task.
‘How do I telescope a life so flush with genius. Do I go back and forth in time? A linear narrative seems impossible. But one thing I won’t do is official research.
‘I don’t want to harp on well-known myths about Kishore Kumar, like his eccentricity etc. I’d rather dwell on unknown facets of the man. For this I’d have to meet the people who knew Kishore Kumar intimately.’
But here again there’s a hitch. D’Silva cannot connect with the generation that knew Kishore well. And that would include Lata Mangeshkar, Manna Dey, music composers Pyarelal and Rajesh Roshan, the legendary singer’s wives and sons.
‘I guess I’d first have to know the people who knew Kishore Kumar before I can find out about him. So, yes, this project will take a great amount of time. And I won’t be rushed.’
Does he feel up to the task?
‘Well, most people who saw ‘Rang De Basanti’ felt connecting Bhagat Singh to a contemporary context was something they’d have never imagined. I know chronicling Kishore Kumar’s life won’t be easy. But who said I want to take the easy way out?’
And who in his opinion can play Kishore Kumar?
‘Ha. That’s a tough one. We need someone who can dance, sing, act and look like the great man. But our industry is full of surprises.
‘Please don’t forget, when Robert Downey Jr. was selected to play Charlie Chaplin in the Richard Attenborough biopic, people thought it was the worst injustice to be done to the comic genius. Kishoreda is our comic genius. And there must be someone equal to the task of portraying a man so versatile.’

Both Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan haven’t been able to allot time for the Kishore Kumar biopic, reports Prithwish Ganguly
There was great anticipation amongst Kishore Kumar fans some months ago when it was announced that a bio-pic was being made on the life of the legendary playback singer.
The news was that UTV would produce this mega budget film —which is to be directed by Shoojit Sircar and written by Renzil D’Silva (of Rang De Basanti fame) — and shooting was scheduled to start by early 2009.
But there is disappointment in store for the legion of Kishoreda fans — the production house has admitted that is has been unable to finalise the lead star.
Sources say that two of the industry’s most saleable stars — Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan — were approached to star in the film, but neither have dates to spare.
“This will be a big film and they desperately want to cast one of the most marketable actors to play Kishoreda’s role. They approached SRK and Aamir but have not been able to finalise anyone. The actors don’t have dates for the next one-and-a-half years and this has upset their plans to get rolling by early next year,” says a very reliable source.
The insider adds, “Since the film is important for UTV and Kishoreda’s fans, they don’t want to settle for anything less than the best. So they might just wait for one of these actors to give their nod to the film.”
When contacted, Ram Mirchandani of UTV says, “Yes, it is true that we have sounded off a couple of our very good friends from the industry who are very big stars. But it is on a personal level. The film needs a superstar, no denying that, because the actor would have to portray the life of a multi-faceted genius.”
However, Ram also blames the delay on the script, “What is really taking time is the script because we can’t afford to go even an inch wrong about this legend. He had so many shades and we need to carefully research his life. A core team has been formed to do this and even Renzil and Shoojit are working to get all the facts right. So scripting will at least take eight to 10 months more. It is only then that we will formally approach the big stars to help us out by starring in the movie.”
By that time they’ll probably have the dates as well, we hope.

If everything works out, Aamir Khan might play the role of late singer actor, Kishore Kumar in a movie by Percept Pictures. The company has even gotten a go-ahead from the singer’s wife, Leena Chandarvakar.
“I am a great fan of Kishore Kumar and if I love the script, I will surely do it,” Aamir said.
He however added that he was too busy to read the script. The actor is promoting his latest film, Ghajni, which is slated for December 25.
“I have not seen the script yet because of my busy schedule. I also have to prepare for Taare Zameen Par’s marketing strategy for the Oscars early next year,” Aamir added.
Kishore Kumar’s rise has been one of the most dramatic in the film industry. He alongwith another great singer, Mohammad Rafi, ruled the golden era [50s to 70s] of the film industry.
He also acted in several Hindi films and is known for his comic roles in films like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and many others.

Kishore Kumar’s stories oft make the rounds amongst ageing spot boys and light men. Most often the gate keepers of studios like Mehboob, Filmalaya and Filmistan can regale you with a story of Kishore Kumar that is bound to bring a smile to your lips. And now UTV is planning to bring to life, Kishore Kumar on celluloid.
UTV’s line up of films is big. After films like Jodhaa Akbar, A Wednesday, Fashion making brisk business, their success rate is better than most production houses. And the latest `big’ film that is on the anvil is the one that is based on the life of Kishore Kumar.
After considering the top notch actors like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and even Govinda, it’s now Abhishek Bachchan that they are keen to rope in. “The film will be directed by Sujit Sarkar,” says Ram Mirchandani, COO UTV Rampage Motion Pictures. “As a production house we are always excited about all our projects but this film is based on a legend called Kishore, so it’s super special,” discloses the official.
“As a subject, Kishore Kumar’s life is very colorful. His love life, his career, his music, his marriages and above all his eccentricities, he was a complete entertainer,” says Mirchandani. It is believed that the legend would lock up filmmakers in his room and inside cupboards. That was his way of playing pranks. Mirchandani feels that barring the physical appearance, Abhishek fits the bill. “A good comic timing and an interesting personality, Abhishek is the apt choice.” Wonder what junior Bachchan has to say about this.
KCP, the film is never going to happen!! BTW, have you heard someone is remaking Padosan and apparently, Sanjubawa will be playing Kishoreda’s role? He can sing but it will be Munnabhai?
