Life is unfair , Get used to it….
Anurag Kashyap | Exclusive, Movies, My Diary | December 14, 2006 at 1:21 pm
I am so frustrated and desperate..i haven’t been shooting for last i don’t know how many days..i went to Bhuj to finalise my location for my four shot scene..its a problem to take the vehicle i need to shoot because of octroi and other troubles..and the bloody jeep averages just two KMs a litres and will take five days to reach Bhuj by road..so for it to reach the location it will have to be carried on a truck..and it will cost us one and a half lacs..what a country..
i have to shoot with John in Dharavi on 18th and 19th..only god knows how i am going to pull it off..i have been told to be precise with what am i going to do there..kartik will be frigging happy to know that i did my shot divisions days in advance..by the way this is not to be about No smoking..its about my frustrations..Dhoom 2 is a hit..it really frustrates me..GIIFA were so pleasing everybody..that frustrates me too..fight club won best debut director over khosla ka ghosla..over ahista ahista..over sehar..over pyar ke side effects..tusshar won best actor in a comic role over sharman..ranvir shorey the discovery of the year wasn’t even nominated..konkona wasn’t nominated for omkara..and deepak dobriyal in omkara was frigging five hundred times better than an abhishek bachhan in all his performances put together and wasn’t even nominated..they should start doing these awards in the yashraj lawns or bachchan gardens where they play holi..its like the family awards..one to kapoor..two to khans..three to kumars..did someone forget siddarth in RDB for best debut..hrithik should have got the best jump award for krrish..what about arshad warsi for best actor in a comic role or for that matter supporting role..
its frustrating because suddenly everybody wants me to make a film..because i am doing one with john, so everybody thinks i am now willing to sell myself..”randi bade nakhre karne ke baad bazaar mein aa gayi hai..dene ko taiyaar hai le lo”..in last three days i met so many filmmakers ..talented..talented more than most of our GIIFA nominated filmmakers..chewing their nails..because no one understands there script..its like everyone understood my films after they were made..Prakash Rao who made a brilliant “bellyful of dreams” is struggling to convince people..a filmmaker who is india’s very own darren aronofsky..whose ideas are so brilliant that no one can see them..he has to resort to turn his idea into a graphic novel before he can make it..nishikant kamat who made an extra ordinary “dombivali fast” is now remaking it in tamil..so much for him having written a brilliant original script on 7/11..akshat is still trying to prove to his producers that the film he can make will be as brilliant as the script he has written, by doing test shoots and his producer is still not satisfied with the brilliance i saw, which in truth was more than the last five choices he made in his acting career..so much for PFC worshipping the man..no one knows the truth..no man..and i repeat no mediocre man should yield so much power over someone creatively so superior that he can kill his confidence and turn him into another towing the line, “what i say you do” director..
its sad that most of the corporates are creatively headed by directors who never made a remotely good film or actors who went no where..and decision makers who want to play safe just because they love there jobs..You can’t cross a chasm in half steps..Vikram aditya Motwani who according to me is one of the most brilliant writer and director we have today is yet behind the scenes and anonymous because he is idealistic..passionate..calls a spade a spade..why would anyone want him..he doesn’t give in..so what if he is a brilliant cameraman, photographer, sound designer, visualiser other than being a writer director..he directed the songs of Water and was credited as the choreographer, he directed my songs of Paanch too, he won the award for sound designing in Devdas, he shot Shaanu Taxi..a short film thats doing the rounds of the festivals..he has done hell of a lot ..yet he has to constantly prove his worth..and i look around and what do i see..mediocrity dictating terms..offcourse i am frustrated..yes i compromise many a times to still survive..i am not half an idealistic filmaker as i have mentioned but i am known because i still sometimes give in..they don’t.. so, no one knows them..
I don’t know who the fuck Kikuzero is who called Rajkumar a malicious man..i know Rajkumar..when i was making Black Friday..that man played the bad cop to my good cop..he did all the dirty work and got abused for it..270 actors ..he handled them..so much crew to be put in order he did it..he took the brunt for screaming and shouting at people..everyone said the Director[me] is so nice and polite ,who the fuck is Rajkumar to scream at us..well i was allowed to be polite because he expressed my anger..that man has written four very good scripts..one extra ordinary one..and one actor..my very good friend is sitting on it for last three months and haven’t opened it yet..forget reading it..because Rajkumar doesn’t talk as well as i can..and i am frustrated ..everyday..looking at a man who should be making his own film reduced to being my associate..

goddamn.. hearing the list of winners and those who didn’t even get acknowledged pisses me off. met vikramaditya earlier this year.. cool chap. next to cinema, loves football just as much as i do.. it was fun to talk to him about that. got to read one of his co-written scripts too.. if he’s really sitting idle right now, it’s a shame, because the industry could really use his work.. anurag, perhaps your next project could involve him in some capacity.. what say?
- Anurag, a few of us were discussing the GIIFA last night…more on that later… just wanted to drop a note is “fuck” whoever the commenter kikuzero is… been blogging for over two years and get such idiots over and over again… i’ve learnt one thing… Ignore and delete the comments… it’s something bloggers have learnt to do to keep focussed on their passion… will share some funny stories another day about blogging and it’s commenters… meanwhile this request to all cine fanatics on PFC – please email me as soon as you see a vicious comment or a verbal abuse by someone… I just took care of someone called denice-menace (a long time abuser on DT)… my attorneys are now talking to that person’s internet service provider… I’m taking this guy/girl to court… as long as I’m here… I won’t let any idiots breathe on such pages of passion for cinema…
Deepka DObriyal would be my choice for best debut actor. He was just amazing…
“randi bade nakhre karne ke baad bazaar mein aa gayi hai..dene ko taiyaar hai le lo”. =))
Dhoom2 is a hit is no surprise Anurag.Remeber..we are having a year where FANAA, KANK, DON are major hits…nothing to do with the movies..just pure marketing genius…and who’s complaining..we at PFC..right..but there is noone around me now to tell this to…they wanna watch a re-run of Dhoom2…lol
Now, now, I’m really suprised reading Fanaa, KANK and Don are major hits. :o were they really? thats messed up, if they were. i’m live it the US – never watched KANK, Don was a disappointment and Fanaa, well I wish I had never seen it.
great post, Anurag. GIIFA awards seem to be a disgrace and looks like licking attempt. What really made me laugh is Fight Club won. Gosh!
ah well, not that these kinda awards prove anything but its still sad to see deserving people getting ripped and ass-lickers being in the limelight… but as your post says it too – life is not …..
I haven’t seen Dhoom2 either. is it worth watching? ;)
Another question (for Anurag or anyone) – Will Black Friday be released in uncensored form or will be with heavy cuts?
Nishikant’s “Dombivli Fast” is such an awesome movie. Though slightly inspired by “Falling Down”, it’s such a powerful film and so entertaining at the same time. I’ll be interested to see what Madhavan is able to bring to the character. More interesting is the fact that Nishikant, a Maharashtrian is making it in Tamil, and he doesn’t speak the language.
On a side note Anurag – I was at Fry’s couple of days ago. Was remembering the time you, me and Nishikant went laptop shopping there last year during IFFLA.
its that laptop vijay i blog from..was with christina and dilip and soori last night..i asked her that if you are the same vijay and she said offcourse you are the same viji..
Insightful rant, AK…
I have heard Nishi da’s Storyline based on 7/11 straiht from the horse’s mouth.. It’s better than Dombivli fast! He needs to make it fast!
Ak: These awards still manage to surprise you? I am surprised! Salman khan winning over Manoj bajpai for best supporting actor? Satya vs. Kuch kuch hota hai? Bajpai getting the ‘critics award’? We should all have committed suicide then and there! Kaho na pyar hai wins best story?
Veer Zaara bagging all the awards including best film? Black winning best film? I mean a complete xerox copy being called the most original film of the year? Then there’s saif’s national award and Nadeem shravan getting best music director over Rehman for saathiya and blah blah blah.We can go on and on and on
Yes Anurag, life is unfair. But life is also magical. Dreams do manifest. They do! You are a living proof. They do!
We (the lesser mortals) can’t give up. Not ever. And life is just a journey anyways…there is no fucking destination, except death…maybe death if there is no after life. Anyways, making a film or even winning an Oscar are just artificial “stations” that we create in our heads. We get so worked up about all that and forget the original purpose of it all – telling a story that can’t hold itself in the heart? Just does not matter. I can’t speak for others but I am happy – in the middle of the night I am writing a scene and the characters start talking to me – I am happy – I am happy with them right now. No cameras, no budgets, no tantrums to worry about – they love me and I love them. That’s all that matters.
they should start doing these awards in the yashraj lawns or bachchan gardens where they play holi..its like the family awards..one to kapoor..two to khans..three to kumars.
That was too nasty and too good at the sametime. Organizers of the gala G-FUCK must’ve studied their market to the minutest details.Afterall have any Malay heard of Deepak Dobriyal,Konkona SenSharma and glamour don’t go well together…Siddharth is sadly still a non-entity in Bollywood…and the saddest part is that these things are not going to change any soon.So the more we see these awards held at exoctic locations, the more the nominations will go to the known faces whose glamors can sell all the tickets.Who the hell cares if art is not recognised or not.
I was reading an interview by AB Jr that Uday and Hrithik were class-mates and he was 1 yr jnr to them in the same school. Now when the so-called mega-hit of the year casts all the school-buddies only thing that can save Bollywood from going to the drains is ppl like Vishaal and you and Rajkumar and Nishikant Kamat and several others who have had to go thru the acid test before proving their worth.RGV might be churning out oddest of the oddest movies every month, but salaam to that man for allowing people with baap-chacha connections to try their hands in big mean world of filmdom. We need more and more people like him.
Wish you all the best for your next days of shoot.Sirjee shove it up their asses…waiting for Black Friday to break the barrier and Panch..Gulal…No Smoking to follow.
“allowing people with baap-chacha connections ”
I meant allowing people without baap-chacha connections
dharavi will be a difficult shoot sirjee …loved the article…had met Nishikant Kamat when he was a script doctor at UTV,,,never knew JUlIE se woh DOMBIVALI tak jaa paye gaa…and how’s VIKRAM doing?
..wish u the best for the shoot ahead…
regards,
premal
Hi Anurag,
is there a light at the end of the tunnel? awards are becoming a farce.cinema is being used and abused. it has become a prostitute.i get scared everytime i start writing something.and now reading what you have written i am shit scared.i guess everyone will have to finmd it’s own way.i was at ftii for a one week course and now whne i am back in bombay. i logh aloud and think. was it worth it?
it felt like twoo different worlds. the ftii world & the indian film industry.i am sad, depressed, agitated, frustrated and the list goes on…
All things bad….everything that makes me sad… but I feel happy too….Because I have always wondered whenever films like KANK,Fanna,Krrish, Dhoom2, Phir Hera Pheri,Baabul,Bunty aur babli and other shit have released and become hit….either I hate them or I never want to watch them….can make out from the promos….and all these shit turns out to be hit. Always wondered if I am the only one…why cant everyone be like me…why cant we make these films big FLOP like some morons make these films hit?? But I feel happy there are few others like me too. M not alone. Someday we will crush them.
ya phoenix there are a lot of people like you but they all scattered around.need to unite and take over the industry. REVOLUTION!!!
Rony, then lets do it. Here n now. Halla bol!!!Enough of it.
Oz, what say ? PFC is the perfect place…lets get everyone here.
Bang ur head against the wall and expect it to move !!!
Im kind of a little tired of these opinions and talk of bollywood changing …. You try real hard and all it comes out is zero … and then u feel .. kya faayda ???
Kartik Krishnan: You sound almost as pessimistic as Vijay Tendulkar. He once told me that he has stopped watching hindi films since they are made for illiterates. Also that films like ‘Black’ are for high class illiterates. He sees absolutely no hope of the situation improving here and that genuinely talented and creative film-makers will either go crazy or die paupers in here.:o
Kartik, ek sad phodne se kuch nahi hoga. Ek saath kai aur sad phodne padenge, tab shayad koi deewar tute. Kya pata…kuch zyada hi hopeful hoon shayad. Chalo kuch mile na mile…ye to lagega ki kuch koshish kiya. Warna to sab hi yahan bewakufoon ki jamaat hai.
“The revolution is not an apple that falls when it is ripe. You have to make it fall.” – Che
It’s showbiz, it’s dog eat dog, there is every reason to be scared, to sweat and shit bullets. For every filmmaker who ‘makes it’, thousands don’t, they go back home and get a job, turn psychotic, or die of liver cirhosis, you are alone in this business, and there’s money worth crores resting on your shoulders(if you are lucky and have balls of steel), aren’t you glad we have good marketing and the internet? people can actually make short films on a cheapass dv camera and send them to fests and decorate their film publicity posters with fig leaf wreathes and make their momma proud, that’s as far as the revolution will take you, there is an entertainment hungry middle class who need a ‘rollercoaster ride’, they want to be strapped in their seats with popcorn and nachos, and they want to have “fun”, that’s why we have mouseholes masquerading as cineplexes. Cinema is nothing more than a bottle of detergent now, anywhere in the world, even the Cannes jury awards a film which gets it’s politics right(anti-american anti-republican pro-feminist), very often undermining the craft of filmmaking, if i could contest Che’s quote i’d go ahead and say, there are no more apples left, there will be no revolution, just more award functions for bad cinema. Agar awards nahi milenge to filmmaker ki dukaan kaise chalegi? mujhe bhi filmmaker banna hai, lekin jis din main bazaar main utrunga, to randee ban ke hi utrunga.
All that is true in Hollywood also. Even Francis Ford Coppola started a winery after being fed up with Hollywood and at one point was not doing anything. The studios are all run by the “suits” and they have no idea about films except their Excel spread sheets and projections. So many filmmakers give in to do what the studios want. Sean Penn who is such an influential actor swore off Holyywod, started making independent films, burnt all his money and came back. It is a struggle all over but it is well worth it.
At least in the western markets there is a smaller independent market that supports smaller films. In India that is almost non-existent. There is an opportunity to grow that segment especially with the sprawling multiplexes – it won’t be as difficult to get a screen for smaller films as this even grows. However sustained effort is required to grow this segment. If progressive filmmakers concentrate on story telling without focussing too much on the effects and stunts like the Yashraj kind of films – Ray in the past or even some one like Eastwood in the current crop of effective filmmakers – straightforward (perhaps old fashioned) but effective story telling and show to the producers that these films actually make some money, I think the future is not that bleak. It needs sustained effort and discipline. How is a Nagesh Kukunoor surviving? I think it can be done.
And one more important issue for the progressive filmmaker is that – the audiences are very forgiving with story and other things when it is an Yashraj kind of film, they just go there to have fun. Not so with smaller film. It has to be 200% good. It is not easy. Having progrssive outlook does not necessarily make one a great director. So, it is very harsh and unforgiving. If that’s what you choose to do, that’s what you choose to do. I remember reading about Arthur Ashe – when he was playing, because the whole world was racial and even the umpires did not want him to win, in his mind he always imagined the opponent’s side of the court to be smaller and his side wider and bigger. It was not fair but he still fought and won. It can be done and will be done.
My take on this is:
Dont Get USED to Life…!!!!
Thanks Anurag for sharing your frustration, that motivates me in multiple folds ….:)
Thanks VAsu for the Arthur Ashe’s Example
>-
- I’m amazed by the response to this page of Anurag’s diary… it is motivating and heartening… Kartik, think about what you in yourself and yourself can do without trying to change “THE ENTIRE TOWN”… it’s a balance… you guys are coming in drop by drop, and again balancing out the entire sloppy slopsided scale… very very encouraging…
Why do you guys even seek adulations of people( 90% of indian audience) who dont understand excellence? Why cry for not getting opportunity or not being able to “make it” when eventually your work will not be respected because majority will not like it. Its best to have your own small community where it will be regarded
Vasu…Superbly put…
Yes, the awards are a farce…that’s a given…this country is probably the only country where there is not a single fair awards..expecting anything else from GIFA wouldnt be right…
The other thing that has been troubling me … Have we looked at the other cities and their respective film industries and thought about trying our stories over there…Nagesh Kukunoor for example did not park in Bombay and start making his movies from Bombay…
Nishikant Kamat for example mentioned above made a superb movie…Dombivali Fast…
Mani Rathnam’s first movie was in Kannada…
Should we not then be trying out the various smaller (?) industries like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam film industries…
I mean, end of the day what is it that we want…to be able to tell our stories in the way we want…and that your vision reaches to many people and it be appreciated…language not withstanding…
What’s everyone’s thoughts about this…
I agree with ya, Jwalant. It’s better if people start seeing those so called ‘Awards’ functions as concerts and don’t read much into it. I would be happy if I was not nominated for or won those kind of awards.. it at least would mean that my work is not cheap or something.
the GIIFAs were indeed a disgrace
“and deepak dobriyal in omkara was frigging five hundred times better than an abhishek bachhan in all his performances put together”
lmao!! so funny and so true
well a gud post anurag..
i agree that despite of weak scripts how all yashraj films work?? but should say aditya chopra is a talented man…cmon he is capable to make people beleive then his product is best… despite of having worst products… only thing he should use his brains for better purpose… i mean in creative one cant always think of generatin money.. after all creativity should be different from corporatisation… 1 shud take learn 2 take risk..
As said by FRANCIS COPPOLLA ” Not taking risks in art is like not having sex and then expecting there to be children.”
one thing is for sure..m not gng 2 wait for anything.. ill make my own film for sure one day..i just need an exposure nehow… btw anurag or everybody out here…this ones a silly question

Met a journalist who was covering the GIIFA. After talking to him realised that its a business. Where u pay the stars to perform, pamper them their family, makeup person a whole cricket team, which comes with them as a package. Then make money by sponsorship of a TV channel, companies etc. Theres freaking no appreaciation of art its just a money making machine.
Shouldn’t we start real awards by bringing stars like Aamir, Ajay Devgan, Saif, John and few others who have crossed towards meaningful cinema
to popularize and appreciate real talent.
All award shows including filmfare are businesses these days. It’s always about the TRPs. That’s why they can afford to spend so much money on them. It’s no different from putting up a concert like “Temptations”. As for starting “real” awards Manjeet, it’s not going to work in the Indian market. Doesn’t matter what kind of films stars do, if you want them to attend your award ceremony, you have to pamper them and their guests. And for that you need money, and that money comes from sponsorships, which in turn demands good TRPs for which you have to award people who are popular. It’s a filthy chain reaction.
Hollywood has so many awards like these and they are all bastardized to accomodate TRP’s. The only one that is fairly less infected by TRP demands, and I use that term quite cautiously, are the Oscars, solely because it is the oldest, and will always draw viewers irrespective of the outcomes. However, let me state that the Oscars still do not necessarily award quality at all times. In the last years, studio networking, lobbying, political correctness stands etc have all made the Oscars too lean in certain directions.
oops sorry editor for that…din know abt it..
well i wud like 2 share one thing here…i was seriously disappointed to know few days back that the best film of this year which is close 2 our heart.. a film of which we can feel proud of RANG DE BASANTI is a copy of a french movie JESUS DE MONTREAL..not the whole movie but the basic concept is copied.. the latter one is the story of few frnds preparing for a play on jesus christ and on this journey they get 2 know jesus values and they die in the end in order to keep the values…
i was seriously disappointed 2 know that but still love the indian version….
wat say people???
guys..everytime i am frustrated..i need to let it out just to strike the balance..i agree with vasu..we also need to be in the system to change it and change it we will, but very slowly..one can only try and be honest with one’s own film..i can only stand by films i make..i can not say even two words for defending the ones i write for money..and i need that money..to be here, and fighting..i did not write this piece to disillusion anyone, nor to start a revolution..just want to share that there is never an end to feeling unfair..at the same time i try and use all that makes me angry to keep doing it..when it comes to the audience, its not always they have rejected a good film..may be they except mediocrity more than excellence but they never ignored a good film..no honest filmmaker goes unnoticed..passion doesn’t go unnoticed..sincerity, integrity never goes unnoticed, or else i won’t be making my fourth, yet radical film without a release to my credit..audience should be given credit..look at it the other way..we are and we were the audience before we became filmmakers..before this platform was found by oz..PFC is the living proof that good cinema and good audience exists.. its just the feudal landlords we have to take it away from..make art and cinema more democratic..
Proud of you anurag, as always.
Values will never go out of fashion.
neither will honesty and passion.
(hey,that rhymed!)
gudluck, godspeed!
So true AK..have always believed that u dont need a group to bring abt a change..an individual can also do it if he/she is passionate enough..just that it may take time but it happens for sure..And then , every decade in cinema has also had a different trend..this change in trend is decided by the film makers themselves..also there is a place where sensible cinema intersects entertaining cinema..its just upto us to identify it and convince others for the same :d
ah just a link i found ..
more promotion of no smoking ;)

Bhavesh – I saw Jesus de Montreal in the theater about 10 years ago, and it is a pretty interesting film, although not one I thought well enough of to see again. I don’t think that RDB is a remake of Jesus. While they do deal with the theme of actors working on a play/movie that changes their views to the point of changing their realities, this has been done before and is not unique, nor are there enough parallels between them that I think RDB could be considered a remake.
There is one similarity between the two films – neither film could have been made as well in any other place, both movies succeed because of their locations and cultures, French Catholic Catholocism and Indian middle class ennui/fundamentalism.
Since it has been years since I saw Jesus de Montreal, I would love to hear from someone who has seen it more recently to see what they think of the parallels to RDB.
Vijay – you make it hard for me to comment here, you always beat me to the punch! I think the Oscars are a joke, and will argue that the Golden Globes are probably the only worthwhile award show.
You are right about the bad decisions made by the Oscar committee, and I haven’t watched a broadcast or paid attention in years because too many great movies/actors/actresses have been overlooked with the awards going to what I like to refer to as the Prom Queen and King. All except for the smaller, technical awards, which don’t seem to be governed by the same politicing that poisons the larger awards. Bought popularity, just like high school, although not as nefarious as the GIIFA….
RDB has nothing to do with jesus de montreal..whatever similarity is there is incidental..i have seen the people behind the scene struggling with it and putting it together..
Sorry for sidetracking a little .. but Here’s the GIFA award nominees – winners
http://www.indiafm.com/features/2006/12/10/1918/index.html
http://www.movietalkies.co.in/awards/index.asp?AwardId=26
Best actor – Hrithik roshan ???
Best supporting actor/actress is screwed up … Siddarth and Deepak didnt even get nominated for RDB/omkara
Doesnt deepak get qualified for best debut ?? Oh but he doesn’t speak Gujju-NRI-accented english does he ???
Everytime I feel frustrated…it reminds of one scene from the film Shool…love that film…. Virendra Saexna playing Manoj Bajpayee’s dad tells him “duniya tumhare tarike se nahi chalti”…in order to convince Manoj to accept everything that the villain is asking for….n I feel as if the whole world is telling me the same…just want to turn around n say…”duniya ko mere tarike se hi chalna padega. Varna is duniya ko main unke tarike se chalne nahi dunga”….now this sounds like sunny paaji from Gadar…but sometimes sunny paajis work, i guess.
phonix .. is that the scene u r reminded whenever ur frustated ??
Here’s mine from the same film – When manoj shoots Hussain and says – “Aap logon ko jo karna hai kijiyey, ab hum nahi rukney waaley”
Hey Kartik, ya love that also…Manoj is such a good actor…we even dont know how to use him…one more scene that I love from the same film…is when Raveena is about to die and Manoj breaks down in the hospital sitting next to her…ma hame kolhu ka bail kaehti thi, hum bail hi to hai…n then he goes on….it such a lovely scene…no melodrama nothing n still touches your heart. So natural dialogues n that kind of delivery too.
well i havent seen jesus de montreal… just got the information from mumbai mirror where some report was shown about lots of copies in bollywood… well gud 2 hear that rdb is not copied… thanks anurag and t!…
@Bhavesh: Hey, I have made the documentary you read about in the mirror.http://epaper.timesofindia.com/Repository/ml.asp?Ref=TU1JUi8yMDA2LzEyLzEwI0FyMDEwMDA=&Mode=HTML&Locale=english-skin-custom
In fact I even asked Oz to put up an invitation for all PFC bloggers in mumbai for a screening on the 23rd.But for some strange reason,Oz never replies to my mails.
About jesus of montreal, it has not been portrayed as a remake in the docu., but just how the plot has been completely indianised and made into a completely different film.
- Chaitanya… my bad… I’m still trying to come to terms with reading and replying over a 100 emails each day… sending you an email shortly
Chaitanya, Mr Oz is really busy man. Please dont disturb him much ya. Guys, thoda kam likho yaar….\:d/:-w
hey chaitanya… i have d preview in ur post.. it seems interesting … m coming on 23rd but i hope ill b allowed… and one more thing even m plannin a documentary on engineering from mumbai university… as i m a syudent so want some tips from u… reply
Bhavesh ji I am also a student .Much younger than you. But will still try to help you whatever little I have learnt while making this one. And of course you will be allowed.
BREAKING NEWS- Nikhil Advani signs VikramAditya Motwane to direct his first movie..starring John Abraham and Vidya Balan..Last night..i am so kicked
Wow that is great news for Vikram Aditya… from sound designing to Direction…fantastic..another Vishal in making? I would love to see that…ohh AK you said he also did direct songs in Paanch..right..
wow thats a good news!
ohh great.. u were soooooooo right Anurgagji that john has enough courage to act in first time directors movies eventhough we all know that vikram is sooooo talented.
People
Would anyone of you know if Dombivli Fast is available on dvd? Ive read that Madhavan is doing the tamil remake of DF. I find it hard to omagine Madhavan as a middle aged bank employee which I believe the protagonist of DF is.
anurag… well can u please tell me somethin about vikram aditya singh… hows hes so talented!
i wana hear some of his achievements
Your words are such an inspiration. For the first time, I find myself reconsidering doing production for people like you and Vikram Aditya Motwani. Your magnanimity in stating “..everyone said the Director[me] is so nice and polite ,who the fuck is Rajkumar to scream at us…well i was allowed to be polite because he expressed my anger..” is touching. It’s unbelievable.
I never found anyone telling me “Oh! wow! You did the reccee, chose the location, got a crane, got a bus into the river, managed all the actors, liaisoned with villagers, made twenty kids come to the location on time, fed the unit, made good arrangement for safety for action sequences without any help, managed the props, assisted the director, helped manage a crowd, sat for edits and all for a 60-70 thousand budget within nothing in it for me except for the love of film. Nothing went wrong, wrong… How did you do it?”.
Instead my bosses made me feel it was just another day of business, when they had never done anything like it all their freaking lives. It was just another day. Many such instances killed my desire to do production for anybody. Today I am working in another field of work. The terrible thing is that there’s nothing that I learned and absorbed as well as I did film.
I am healing I guess. Your attitude and reality helps. Just the last month I put in all my savings to buy a Canon XL2 to find a way of making some-kind of film that goes with what I believe in.
Very true what you said about the Yash Raj Awards on Bachchan lawns… here is my pointers after seeing Dhoom 2, i have unearthed the winning formula of the renowned Yash Raj Films
Formula unplugged from the School of Yash Raj Films:
Step 1: Take one script. Any script will do. Even if it is incomplete, half cooked or fantastic. We are the dream merchants we will convert into Gold (not joking, they really do) There is more chances of getting your script made into film if you have a role specially written for Mr. Uday Chopra!
Step 2: Take five stars (Uday is a star for us in Yash Raj Films)
Step 3: The entry of a star has to be in slow motion. With so much wind blowing on your face, the movement is bound to look like slow motion. (Uday Chopra works out in slow motion. He is the best!)
Step 4: Actresses shall wear only mini skirts and less than mini skirts. If anything that covers the thighs and downwards, the character is either a widow, or a mother or an aunty
Step 5: The name of the lead actor shall mostly be Raj, Aaryan, or mostly Rahul
Step 6: The lead actor shall be able to dance. (Uday dances well too!)
Step 7: On launching a new face, during the introduction of the character, all the other body parts will be highlighted before you reach his/her face! (By the way, for the male stars we have the record number of launches for Uday Chopra)
Step 8: We believe in great music and we do it the best
Step 9: All the actors, no matter however poor, will travel by air, live in South Mumbai in a penthouse. The best thing is they dont need Visa to any other land. If they are really poor, they can only have the privilege of being a mechanic with a Hayabusa!
Step 10: All stories that are of family vaues shall have the word ‘parampara’ in it…
Step 11: We believe in Special Appearances. (Uday Chopra has an amazing resume of special appearances!)
Step 12: Marketing is our forte. For Fanaa we kicked up the Aamir ban, which made speculation. In Dhoom 2 it was the kiss. (Actually the insider info is that people wanted to put a case against making such a bad scripted film, but the case would be weak in court, hence the kiss ka kissa)
Step 13: We recover half the money by infilm promotions, like MDH Masala, Surf Excel (for the spotless white sarees) etc..
Step 14: We believe technology is advancing, hence the addition of Special effects. We purposely do bad special effects so that you know that it is a special effect, unlike our counterparts in Hollywood. (Whats the point if people dont notice the Special Effects! Uday is added for Special Effects too!)
Step 15: We are the official lifetime sponsor for Tide, Surf Excel and all the other brands put together, that makes your saree safedh se aur safedh. These brands please note that we are not recieving the royalties as promised, that is why we are shedding the sarees to introduce more airy and simple costumes.
Step 16: All the heroines introduced by Yash Raj shall avail:
a) a dream sequence song
b) a return trip to Switzerland
c) a dance in a skimpy outfit in ice (this is a subtle way of telling the way that you are HOT, even in Ice!)
d) a lucky scratch card… If you are lucky, you get to romance Uday Chopra! (insiders info: all the cards have Uday Chopra written on it!)
- =)) Dude you seem after some thing there… what is it with Uday Chopra showing up on every second line…
)
bcos nobody else except Yash Raj Films casts him!!
=))=))=))=))Too Good!!!
Good point, why don’t stars like Hrithik and Uday feel ashamed of doing films for their family – constantly.
Hrithik atleast comes in with movies by friends to prove us wrong. Poor Uday has no other hopel-)
sir.. man … dude… we need you man. I was the only guy who saw black friday in my university. And I stood all throughout the movie. That is one of the few movies from india that can be called cinema. These fucking khans and chopras and rajs… shit… anyways.. now that you are here… i know we are safe! I am right now in tears looking at the screen and typing this. Your rock big fucking time!!!…. Don’t give in…
Anurag: You must be god.you are actually happy about
your colleagues success..when the market you are targeting is so small and competition is huge!!
there is no doubt.you and the gang are part of indian new wave which is going to be a tsunami in 2007
taking away the bachas and khans and roshans and dhooms.
The critics and the so called intelligentsia has an obligation to support and carry your movie..because if they wont..they will be victims of the same tsunami.
I can see passion in your movie and passion is all that matters.
i am right now reading a book called “the alchemist” (from which i feel ‘a belly full of dreams’ you mentioned was insprired..may be not..
they said the writer was bharavi who wrote the story 18 yrs back..may be true) where there is a quote which says ‘the darkest hour in the night is before dawn’.
you are the star of PFC and you attract people like us.thanks.

I have been reading all ur posts in the blog and couldn’t resist posting a reply for this one…I identify with ur frustation…..it really frustates me as well when movies like dhoom and kank become blockbusters…more frustation when they win awards…
they should start doing these awards in the yashraj lawns or bachchan gardens where they play holi..its like the family awards..one to kapoor..two to khans..three to kumars..did someone forget siddarth in RDB for best debut..hrithik should have got the best jump award for krrish..what about arshad warsi for best actor in a comic role or for that matter supporting role…….GUESS WHAT ??? I think FILMunFAIR guys took this suggestion very seriously. This year the awards r happening at Yashrah lawns. N they r trying to be like Oscar. Lot many different things from this year….No naach gaana…Naach gana only for tv show.Just check out the nomination list…n u can see alll the difference. Next year, will be Jalsa,i think.
Bhaiyoon…mera bageecha bhi khali hai.Koi shaq ??;);):-??8-x[-x~X(@-)=))=));;):o):-@
Hi Anurag,
This is Avinash here…
This is my first comment on this website or any of the websites. I watched Black Friday.Hats off 2 u.Looking forward to No Smoking.Waiting for Paanch. Dont know why these people are ready to show films like Julie & Murder but not Black Friday or Paanch… I have also felt the same thing about the award shows which u mentioned …Even National Awards are not so honest nowadays..remember Saif winning for Humtum over SRK for Swades.:(( . Yuva(U wrote the dialogues,i know) didn’t do well becoz of Hum Tum. India ki public ka kuch nah ho sakta…But u keep on the good work . hamaare jaise thode bahut log abhi bhi ZINDA(again a flop inspite of being a superb movie) hai…. Best of Luck:)>-
