Have always had a biased opinion about the vedesi desi who makes a film on videsi desis and tells US [that is we Indians in India] this is how movies are to be made and how crappy Bollywood is…..how lousy we are etc…etc…geeks….but look at me I am the smart American Desi….but seriously I wish I was Just American…and not at all Desi…..
They think they have made a smart film…with smart line…..but all they can come up with is….multiple stories….with the same characters in almost all their films….has a start….a few funny[???]/goofy/bumbling/gawky Indians …a stingy/Uncouth Naidu or a Charerjee based on their Masters/Graduation experience….one main…LOVE STORY…..the sensible and most AMERICAN of the desi ensemble……then a resolution in the most crappy Hollywood romcom pattern….just hate them……from American Desi….to Flavors….to ABCD….. whatever….they were
MAA KI AANKH………
I went to see the Lions Of Punjab Presents with similar bias….. as it started with the announcement of the “Desi Idol”…..I was like maa-ki-jai…….there they go with their VIDESI SMART ASS DESI MOVIE……had my head hung as I was prepared to hate it….as always….but seriously the LIONS has it’s roaring moments…..as much as I want to hate the smart talking VD [Videsi Desi] fare…..I confess I did have fun….
Yes it does have the gawky Indian who is a jerk…and an embarrassment…..and also
A Punjabi who is more Black than any Black Rapper the world has ever seen….…[FANTA-FAB this guy ….NAIDU….I LOVE HIM…. Turbanotorious B.D.G.]
A genius of a number cruncher on the verge of a layoff who talks numbers and statistics even on a date [a very assured Manish Acharya the director….I quite liked this act]
A wannabe INDIAN by ORIGIN actress who does not know Hindi but still wanting to be a BOLLYWOOD ZINTA
A G-U-J-J-U family who have all their hopes pinned on their super talented beti who has to become an engineer or a doctor…..but can take her real passion singing only as a Hobby[welcome back Lovleen Mishra[as the prodigy's mom]…..aka Chutki…..donno why but have always liked her]
A FIRANG [this man steals the thunder for me….what a moment in the film…..Jaya Hey!!!] who loves India…knows more about hindi cinema with proper trivia knowledge and might even know …Gabbar Singh ka Baap ka naam Hari Singh…….
And finally the socialite who wants to win the contest and donate the earnings….as it would make an impact on her PAGE whatever circuit…..and a one up on some other Page whatever regular….
So it does have the multiple story lines…like earlier attempts like say different lives…different agendas…one meeting point…..Friends wedding …or a party…or a college campus and here it is a singing contest …with a mid…and a resolution to all the characters shown during the credits…..
But why I enjoyed this
Some Killer Lines……I was not expecting this…..this film does have some…..absolute killers…..don’t want to reveal them here…watch it….
Fab performance by AJAY NAIDU….this guy is a revelation……..after Mark Walberg’s swearing act in the Departed this guy gives a knock out….I guess he was there in Office Space too……..
Would like to have hugged Manish and gang…good job guys……in spite of all my bias against the aforementioned cinema genre……Lions Of Punjab has it’s moments……..

Vasan - Manish is not a vedesi desi - at least I don’t think so. Yeah, he went to undergrad in the US and worked here, but he now lives in Bombay and has since he graduated from NYU. So maybe that’s why you liked this film ;)

I’m also quite eager to watch this LOPP. Does anyone know whether this movie will be releasing on internet? Rajshri.com says Manorama-SFU is releasing soon on their website. Why not this one? Me staying in South of Texas, its tough to catch all these good movies in theatre :(( Aur PFC-India chapter waale har baar aise hi jalaate rehate hain..:( (Hinglish: And PFC-India chapter people every time like this only burnooing)

I think LOPP rocks. Usually it takes me a lot to laugh… and i could not stop… its so smart and witty. and the whole cast … superb… such a delightful film to watch. .Turbanotorious, the Gujju gang, ayesha, Shabana, Dharshan… everyone is so good. CHEERS Manish

Sorry that I can’t answer each post personally … but I promise I will. The movie releases tomorrow … and btw, the sound negative was damaged in the lab on Tuesday, As of 6 pm on Tuesday, we had NO SOUND. I was wondering if I could fool folks into thinking I had made an homage to Buster Keaton. Naah!!!
Suffice to say … less sleep, a premier and a release makes less time for web surfing and pfc-reading. (For those who don’t know … LOINS does not have the benefit of an established production house behind it. We’re independently indie … a bunch of us yahoos figuring it out as we go, and getting whacked in the process.)
I run off to Delhi tomorrow as PVR has arranged a press meet there … but when I return to Mumbai … I will get on and answer all the questions raised here.
Wish us luck guys … this is a key weekend for us. Please support us by coming to see it … this weekend. As I told Navdeep earlier today, everyone we know (and don’t) should see two movies this weekend … Manorama and Loins. So .. please do!!!!

Loins is one of the funniest films I’ve seen in a long time. I’ve seen it three times already and it still makes me laugh each time. No mutual back scratching here, but go watch this one!!
LOPP, rocks!!! Watched it in Glamour Bandra…it was a packed house even tough it was a 45 seater the people were laughing throughout…its a brilliant film!!
Manish..If you are reading this..Loins rocks!! and how..here in Pune..sitting alone in a theatre in a 4.30 show..with other similar film buffs (in a half filled 150 seater)..I justt laughed my guts out..I did’nt want to see your tight frames..your obvious cost factors showing up on screen..I was completely taken up with the content..Comedies / satire Ho to aisi!!!!
Ajay Naidu was superb..Darshan and his family rocked!!..Seema Rahmani was impressive..where did you find her!!..Your own act was very classy..Kudos here..even the other characters were great..where did you fathom that one expression Saddam Hussein character..superbly done..in fact the wife too…
You were addressing many issues in that 1 1/2 hours but humour used to put across those issues was too good..vey apt and correct!!
Lastly, Jameel Khan was awesome..but I suspect it was entirely your take on his character..the slime..the bum kinds..please donate your charcterization notes to PFC for others to see how charcters are built..and please move your movie to all shores..this will make you a lot of money..try very hard at marketing the movie!!!!
Oz n All PFC fans are requested to see LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS..not once but twice at least..and allow Manish to breathe a little easy on the Revenue front..he has actually made a classic!! Waah!!!
