London Film Festival
Bhaiiravi - my friend, ne mujhe London Film Festival ke baare batyaa. Which will be taking place from 18 October to 2nd November. However, I am not a big fan of festivals and I do not have time or company, that I can be bother to pay a visit to the festival.
Indian films that will be screened at the London festival are as follows:
2) Gafla (You can read the detailed review of Gafla by our own Kartik Krishnan, if you have not read it yet)
4) A Grave-keeper’s Tale (Maati Maay)
7) The Namesake
If my mates do watch any of those movies or other movies at the festival, then I will try to pursue them to post a review of the movies on here. Otherwise, hope that other PFC Londoners visit London Film Festival, so we can find out……

Hoonhar, why don’t you go by yourself? Festivals are good if you forget about the award thingy and the amount of people attendeding. Just go and enjoy the films! And tell us about everything, or at least Gafla.
Sorry, I misspelled your name, Honhaar Goonda :d
- I see seven reasons to go alone and lose myself in the festival. For you HG, I’ll give three :
Kabul Express
The Namesake
The Journey
For me, films are meant to be watched alone. I do go out with friends and family too, but in most cases it’s just me and the movie.
oz, i feel awkward watching films alone in cinema. i prefer some company. if i had an opportunity then I would have surely watched Gafla. not sure about others. maybe Yatra and Dombvili fast as well.
Monica - you know that it ain’t my scene.
Honhaar Goonda i urge you to go along and review these yourselves, would love to come along however no leave.
I’m in double minds about the namesake, having read the book its a little worrying whether the movie would do any justice :S
But if i watch the movies be sure to read my reviews
HG, I will come along…I am a novice as far as cinema is concerned…so will be glad to come along … only request being …please not during the day time..need to work for roti, kapda and makaan..:)
oz…what are the 4 other reasons ?
- VC, The rest of the 4 movies on the list.
oh by the way the links provided in this post are not working
oh yes…#-o got it…stupid me…
VC, only weekend sounds good for me - i cannot make it on weekdays; i gotta do a bit of study and all.
san, it’s working. which links aren’t working?
ah, yes they are working now - but last night for some reason they weren’t :S
Ah, awkwardness is just for the first time, Honhaar, then it is fine. I have another reason for going alone and that is that you can watch the films you fancy without having to agree with anyone!
Actually this reminds me of a very funny moment from an Argentinian film (No sos vos, soy yo http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378453/ )

And since PFC isn’t just for Indian films I’ll take advantage of it and share it with you…
You can see this scene in youtube and although it has no English subtitles it goes like this:
(Introduction: Javier’s wife left him and he is trying to overcome it. Now he is going to the cinema alone. The woman in the queue is not his wife, btw)
Javier: Yes, I think so
Woman: Didn’t you play basketball in GEBA?
Javier: No, nothing like that
—-
Javier (to the ticket clerk after he offers two tickets): One, one, one
Ticket Clerk: Just one???
Javier: Yes! Just one! Why are you surprised? Are you going to tell me that you never sold one ticket to one person?! Just one.
(close-up of the TC)
Because… if you had said ‘one?’ because you didn’t hear me or your mind was on other things… that would be fine… but ‘JUST one?’…
(close-up of the TC)
That ‘JUST’ is not needed. That ‘JUST’ is asking if I don’t have anyone to give me company: friends, girlfriend, acquaintances… No, I come to the cinema alone because I can put with it. And I go alone to the cinema and to have lunch and anywhere because I don’t need to fill a gap with anyone.
(close-up of the TC)
I’m not like others, who need to take refuge in a book or in a newspaper. I come alone and I can put up with it.
(close-up of the TC)
Ticket Clerk (to the woman): Just one?
Woman: Yes
