Love Story 2050… preview - now this could be a surprise!

Anand sent in this link that gives the first look of what Harry Baweja’s Love Story 2050 will be. First we are no fans of Mr. Baweja. Second, we thought this was gonna be one trash of a movie, cause (a) It’s a love story by Mr. Baweja who gave us the dreaded “Teesri Aankh” (b) Not much was expected from the special effects that would be needed to build a city in the year 2050.

So, reluctantly I clicked on the link (video was on mute, cause I was attending, a supposedly very important meeting)… and voila… me thinks it’s not bad, not bad at all… but then that’s just a 30 odd second preview and the ghosts of Teesri Aankh are still somewhere around.

Fingers crossed… Check the video out, below and you decide…

yup… as u said.. not bad at all

  2. satya on March 27th, 2008 1:29 pm

    hmmm…didn’t work for me:(
BTW, the man with white wig reminded me of Madan Puri of Blackmail(old)…hehehe

  3. Santosh Kumar T K on March 27th, 2008 2:06 pm

    Oz,

agree with each and every point you made. It didn’t take much time for me to dismiss the movie when I heard the title for the first time. But as we see…
    not bad at all

2050 looks a little too early. Probably 2150 would have done :-?

as for the SFX, some of them are really good going by our standards, whilst others amateurish. my guess is that owing to budget constraints different companies would have been commissioned for different episodes, and the result shows :)

Or is it that we all are reading too much a little too early? since the movie is a teaser (unofficial?) and probably hasn’t been DIed. :d

  4. wb on March 27th, 2008 2:13 pm

unable to shake off the feeling that the protagonist’s perhaps trying to emulate a roshan-ish / abraham-ish bearing. but yeah, the fx are cool, for a desi movie, that is.

  5. Santosh Kumar T K on March 27th, 2008 2:37 pm

    WB,

roshanish/abrahamish bearing might be courtesy the fact Master Harman Baweja is debuting, and any well meaning father/director/producer will make sure that the debut film trappings are present (2000 KNPH, a case in point) no matter how far in future the movie is supposedly set! :) not every day do we get a Company(2002) kind of debuts! tch…

  6. Neeraja on March 27th, 2008 2:38 pm

eggjhaktly wb! your comment is very reassuring. mujhe laga mujhe Hrithik Roshan se pyaar ho gaya hai isliye sab mein wahi nazar aata hai! thanks.

    @satya
Man with white wig? That is Boman Irani.

  7. Nadeem on March 27th, 2008 2:49 pm

I think Harry’s son should also be behind the camera like Dad…..Does not look like hero material….

  8. machismo on March 27th, 2008 2:49 pm

oh man the street fighter fireball move towards the end was pretty nice, thank you love story 2050 for reminding me about that game, i am gonna go find that game and play it.

  9. babasko on March 27th, 2008 3:01 pm

Yay, a visual journey through robot film history b-)

iRobot, the teddybear from A.I., Metropolis, Bicentennial Man… you name it ;)

    and still, I

  10. Tony Mera Naam on March 27th, 2008 3:19 pm

LOL @ Machismo.. Street Fighter rocks!

I think its looking pretty good for a desi futuristic film.. I thought the same as Santosh, that it looks more like 2150 (can’t imagine any city changing so much in only 40 years)… some of the SFX look good, others look “budget”… just hope its good a story behind all the FX…

  11. Tony Mera Naam on March 27th, 2008 3:33 pm

For Machismo, and all lovers of Street Fighter…

    http://www.mofunzone.com/online_games/street_fighter_flash.shtml#

I just found it online.. and I just kicked Guile’s ass!

  12. French on March 27th, 2008 4:02 pm

It certainly looks like they revved up the production values, but otherwise the promo is quite lame. Some of the outdoor shots were good, though the skyline owes quite a bit to Star Warss Episode 3,The Fifth World,Minority Report etc. The only thing of interest to me was the pink teddy bear:d

  13. kuka on March 27th, 2008 4:12 pm

I agree with fellow bloggers … The only thing which comes to my mind is AI(Artificial Inteligence, I-Robot , Bi centential Man meet That NutHead Baweja and “show my emotions “Prinyanka using “Time Machine”.
What a SHAME SHAME …and Looks like Mr Boman Irani is again OVER ACTING and shouting after Munnabhai and Main Hoon NA :)

  14. cdrakenc on March 27th, 2008 5:13 pm

This is just adlabs trying to preempt shankar’s robot.

The sfx is cheesy in this one, though.

  15. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 27th, 2008 11:06 pm

    Who wrote the script ?

  16. Arun Prakash on March 27th, 2008 11:17 pm

The character with the white wig reminds me of the professor in the ‘Back to the future’series.
The story line could be similar too.

Nevertheless, this is one of the first Sci-fi movies from Mumbai. Hope it does well.

Mithun, the script is by Bhavini Iyer.

  17. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 12:16 am

I wanna read the script. :-?

  18. suchita b on March 28th, 2008 2:39 am

Mithun, why would you want to rad this script? just curious… and wow, i haven’t seen something like this ever before.. not bad ya..

  19. suchita b on March 28th, 2008 2:40 am

    read, spell mistake

  20. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 3:07 am

My best buddy was the Chief AD on it and he said the script was interesting but the promos make it look like a pastiche of iconic SF imagery.

So I’m curious to know whether it’s hard or soft SF.
Just waiting for the day someone does an alternative history hindi film.

  21. suchita b on March 28th, 2008 3:24 am

Your writing always gives me a new word, thanx:)

  22. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 3:25 am

Which word was that ? AD ? :d

  23. suchita b on March 28th, 2008 3:27 am

    yeah right:)>-

  24. suchita b on March 28th, 2008 4:15 am

And if your best friend is the cheif, he wouldn’t know who wrote the script:(

  25. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 4:26 am

Im sure he does and Im sure he told me but it was over 2 years ago so it slipped my mind.

He didn’t tell me the plot though coz we are sticklers for ethical behavior when it comes to our jobs. Loose lips sink ships.

  26. suchita b on March 28th, 2008 4:33 am

Oh so you haven’t heard of Bhavani Iyer’s name. She wrote this film called Black directed by this director called Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He is quite a rave on PFC.

I like this line - loose lips sink ships, thanx again

  27. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 4:38 am

I know who Bhavani is but I had forgotten she had written 2050. Since I’m not a professional writer I don’t keep track of writing credits.

Ask me DP credits and I’m your man.

That line btw was the unofficial motto for the KGB.
I’m a treasure trove of useless information. :d

  28. turrtle on March 28th, 2008 9:30 am

That article by P J on his interview with A Kashyap is gone, huh ? :-?

  29. K J on March 28th, 2008 10:17 am

this trailer has more sci-fi movie references than johnny gaddar had noir movie references in it’s entirety!

  30. Saad Nawab on March 28th, 2008 2:45 pm

It eeks of Bicentinial man….one of the shots of the androids hanging looks like a scene from I, Robot and then there is the A.I. mix in there.

Considering the look of the film which looks very good, the trailer is way overdone for a teaser. Should have been a bit more subtle, and did anyone notice the that strange tone in the narrators voice. Lol call me skeptical but this is one film I will watch in theatres.

  31. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 8:05 pm

It’s such a shame that the only good SF film I can remember is Mr India from way back.

  32. K J on March 28th, 2008 11:10 pm

yeah. a.i., i robot, bicentennial man, 5th element, minority report, back to the future, minority report, matrix, metropolis, blade runner, the iron giant, these are the ones i figured out till now. should rename the movie as the dummies guide to sci-fi.
there were more visuals i remembered seeing earlier, just could not link the movies. guessing which dvd store did mr. baweja go to for his ‘research’ for his sci-fi movie. but inspite of all that, the trailer has removed much of the skepticism i had about this movie. i’m kind of looking forward to it now.
i’ll see it as long as they don’t introduce strange deus ex machina situations in the film in the name of science.

  33. K J on March 28th, 2008 11:11 pm

    @mithun
have u seen deham by govind nihalani? i think it is a sci-fi too. is it worth seeing?

  34. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 11:15 pm

I didn’t like it but don’t go by my tastes coz I am fanatical when it comes to scifi.

  35. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 28th, 2008 11:29 pm

    @Suchita

Ok this straight from the horse’s mouth. Bhavani didn’t write the script so I’m not interested in reading it anymore. It was written by Mayur Puri so I’ve been fed disinformation and hauled over the coals for nothing. :d

  36. suchita b on March 28th, 2008 11:56 pm

    :d:d:d

    so I thought.

  37. kcp on March 29th, 2008 2:32 am

Mithun…in Hollywood which are your top 3 SF films ?

  38. Bhavani Iyer on March 29th, 2008 6:43 am

Mithun, Suchita - Mayur Puri has written the dialogues. Screenplay is me, for what it’s worth. :-)

  39. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 29th, 2008 12:55 pm

Arrgh wrong once again. So can I please read the script after the film gets released ?

Pretty please with maple syrup. :d

  40. Mithun Gangopadhyay on March 29th, 2008 1:13 pm

    @kcp

I have a huge list but I guess my top 10 would be

    a) Gattaca (Not really Scifi anymore)
    b) Star Wars Trilogy
    c) Forbidden Planet
    d) 2001
    e) Blade Runner
    f) Children of Men
    g) The Iron Giant
    h) ET
    i) Planet of the Apes
    j) The Prestige

Then of course there is scfi anime (orgasmic sound) like Ghost in the Shell, Paprika, Appleseed etc. ROBOTECH FOREVER.

  41. doremi on March 30th, 2008 4:12 am

Seems like a huge ‘Back to the Future’ hangover there.

  42. ANINDYA on March 30th, 2008 5:42 am

The robots are good…but I will hate if they start “dancing”:((

  43. RICK on March 31st, 2008 10:41 am

THE LINK IS NO LONGER WORKING!!….its saying the video is removed!!!!!! why why why whyyyy:((:((:((:((:((:((:((

  44. Nadeem on March 31st, 2008 6:53 pm

Mithun/Suchita…..Please continue your banter, its really entertaining…And I mean that in all honesty, no sarcasm here….
    :”> :d

  45. Mithun Gangopadhyay on April 1st, 2008 12:53 am

    @Nadeem

As much I’d love to indulge your request it takes two to tango. :d

  46. ashi on April 9th, 2008 12:51 am

Hey oz thanks for the trailer, seems like a
interesting movie , a sci-fi bollywood movie is different

  47. Mayur Puri on June 13th, 2008 7:56 am

    Hello all!

This is Mayur Puri. The dialogue writer of LOVESTORY 2050. I have already cracked the ‘Horse’s mouth’ joke in one of the scenes in the film. Hope you guys will like it.

Why is everybody so skeptical and butterfingered about LOVESTORY 2050? It’s the old wine in very very new -futuristic- steely- automated cap loaded- bottle! Go catch it.

Sorry Bhavini, I’ve been working on the script (okay dialogues with ’some’ screenplay changes), but haven’t had the pleasure of seeing you yet :)

Half the places they say Anurag (Kashyap, thankfully) has worked on the dialogues. I’ve been on the project since almost a year and a half now. I started this one before I wrote Om Shanti Om… And I haven’t seen Anurag in two years! As far as I know, apart from me, the only brains storming over ‘OMG this can’t be done!’ and ‘OMG this shouldn’t be done’ viz a viz the film in question, are from the Baweja family.

Too much effort has gone into making of this movie in the last… 3/4 years…

We all do the mistake of associating quality of the product with its maker.

It doesn’t matter who’s made it. Who’s written it and who’s done what. I’ve seen the movie and it’s a fun watch. Really. It’s a bollywood commercial movie. If your popcorn doesn’t come with salt take some from home. Sit back and enjoy.

    Love and Peace,

    Mayur.

    POST SCRIPT (how right, ironically):

    1) Nadeem, You will like Harman in the film. He’s a dude.

    2) Anindya, you’ll love the Robos - especially when they dance.

3)Doremi - it’s a lovestory. There’s more Dilwaley hangover than ‘Back to the Future’

    4) K J you should watch the movie with me. I’d love to see your face if and when duex-ex-machina happens! (not promising anything)

    5) Mithun - Mr India? Really?
Jus’ kiddin - I loved Mr. India too. Still remember the whole film verbatim.

  48. Phoenixnu on June 13th, 2008 8:58 am

@Mayur…ha ha ha. good that u clarified everything. i also read somewhere that anurag has written d dialogues. why is everyone is so skeptical ? cz it mr baweja with hrithik lookalike son and people with red coloured hair in the year 2050 with an ugly pinky kinky robot!! btw, u also had a cameo in oso ?

  49. Mayur Puri on June 14th, 2008 2:57 am

    Yes I did Phoenixnu.

I’m the ‘dard-e-disco’ director - the gujju ‘wannabe cool’ guy who goes ‘Puppa!’ everytime something goes wrong. The ‘puppa’ incidentally was Sanjiv Chawla, OSO’s Line Producer.

Farah as a director and Shahrukh as a co-actor, both, are the most generous people I’ve met.

That was a one time thing. I’ve been flooded with acting after that but I’m sticking to writing.

And sorry to disappoint you but, no. No cameo in Lovestory 2050.
