shit!! only 2 shows of antichrist!!!
what does one do to watch one of these movies…can u buy tickets or do you need a invite or what.. ?
1. Deliver Us from Evil
Haven’t seen it, but its one of the most acclaimed films of last year – documentary about a Father of a Catholic Church who raped many children. Supposed to be terrific and…a hard one to watch..
2. Disgrace
Supposed to be John Malkovich’s one of finest performances; some believe that he could be in Top 5 for Oscars next year.
3. Goodbye Solo
Director, Ramin Bahrani is a man to watch; some hail him as the new great American director; films are supposed to be extremely realistic.
Ebert says:
A film like this makes me wonder if we are coming to the end of the facile, snarky indie films. We live in desperate times. We are ready to respond to films that ask that question. How do you live in this world? Bahrani knows all about flashy camera work, tricky shots, visual stunts. He teaches film at Columbia. But like his fellow North Carolinian, David Gordon Green, he is drawn to a more level gaze, to a film at the service of its characters and their world. Wherever you live, when this film opens, it will be the best film in town.
4. Happy Go Lucky
Mike Leigh is one of my favorite directors and this one is quite the opposite of what he has done – nothing intense intense about it. I saw & enjoyed it; goes at a leisurely pace and you need to see how Leigh works with characters and conflict.
5. The Girlfriend Experience
Steven Soderberg’s new acclaimed flick.
6. Capitalism: A Love Story
Moore’s new film, which got decent reviews.
Plus…Informant + Anti-Christ + (of course!) many many more…
thanx a lot dude…
This is the other part about the fest, when ‘corporate’ takes control – Reliance does a great thing by bringing in the money and media, but…it sucks Big time when customer comes to the picture.
Fun Cinemas is a fest-pro plex and has at least information about the fest on their site and link to the schedule.
Big Cinemas, Reliance plex/chain has nothing; you go to their site and have no idea if there’s something called, MAMI running, which is like the biggest fest in India!
I wonder too about finding out on how it works to get the passes. A simple piece of information to provide – one sentence perhaps, but…no clue.
From I have managed to dig-out, at least at Fun Cinemas, there is an exclusive registration counter at the Box Office. I guess that’s how it would be at Big, but…no point in visiting their site!
i am facing the same problem…i hav registered online in the MAMI site…they r saying that I should complete the registration with payment on the spot from 11am-6pm…now since I am a working person I couldn’t register in weekdays…2morrow if i hav 2 register at 11 i’ll miss the 10 am show…
Yeah there was a problem in the morning. But the staff is very helpful n understanding. They helped people with that problem in the morning.
@Rasik, Guess too many films to fit in a tight schedule:)
Vivek, anyone can register on the spot and get in. The festival pass cost’s 1000rs. No daily pass or individual movie pass.
Sunil, thanks for sharing the info. MAMI website is well designed and should provide you with the updated schedule.

Today I watched:-
Black Sea
In the Loop
Zero Bridge
The Sublet
Fish Tank
r there ne forums happening like the ones at Osian…
I notice that eastern plays, the bulgarian film is at the mami.
I just saw it at the viennale.
it is about a human being who has put his soul in the fridge. but once he stops to wait to be injected with love, the same grim, grey cityscape of sofia changes into a landscape of sun bathed streets laid out along blue waters.
it is a great cinematic peep into modern day bulgaria, a lesser known former eastern european country where people like the protagonist dont know how to order a meal in restaurants in their place of birth any more as the menu is in english and the food without salt or pepper.
such good direction, acting, cinematography and soundtrack!
hey i was just checking out the Tokyo film fest awards…Eastern Plays seem 2 hav won the grand prix there…& Road, Movie got a nomination in the same category
hmm…so online registrations were goofed up…so had to register again today on arrival…anyway it was quick & not really painful….watched Sweet Rush, Kinatay, Antichrist, Donne-moi la main & parts of The Moon Inside You…pleasant experience overall…
Sweet Rush is an awesome concept…initially I was a bit unsure with a couple of longish monologues, but then it picked up…I think Wajda also put a reference 2 his earlier work “Ashes & Diamonds”…
Kinatay, for the first half an hour looked like an never ending family get together+marriage party…but than it suddenly transports itself to the dark underbelly of Philippines & it turns out to be an gut wrenching experience…
Antichrist, was expected to be profane…but it turned out to be even more than what I expected…can’t explain it in words…
Donne-moi la main (Give Me Your Hand) was lighter stuff after three intense ones…brotherly relations+coming of age drama+road movie…actually I din’t like it much…twin brothers are probably played by actual brothers & I had a hard time recognizing which one is who…
The Moon Inside You is a docu on a supposedly taboo subject like menstruation on a lighter vein…watched parts of it as there was still time left for kinatay…learnt a few things though
Saw antichrist and kaalbela 2day.antichrist was good. but some parts went over my head. but visually haven’t yet seen anything better. Kaalbela was fine too. But Haazaron is way better cinematically.
Opium wars was awesome 2day…so was Blackout….Los Bastardos had shock value but overall not that good…
saw gandha, natarang, los bastardos and the docu, meet me at the mango tree…gandha and natarang were good. los bastardos and the docu were purely OK…
