Manorama - six feet under - premiere video and some thoughts

[updated: second video of PFC's first on camera reaction after the premiere]

Had good fun at the premiere, thanks Navdeep and PFC.

Here’s my opinion about the film and a quick home video footage from the premiere!

I enjoyed it especially because it was refreshing to see a character like Satyaveer on screen. I am glad he got a place in a release rather than being relegated to just the film festival venue. Even going by the hundreds of stories that aspiring writers from all over the country send out to film people in Mumbai, probably hoping to further their ambition and break from the mundanity of the life they are born into, this character seemed real and I am not even talking about the hindi pulp that we see stocked up in railway stations et al.

It is ironic that in those single screen B and C centres where a person like Satyaveer would be cringing, still hoping to break from his montony, still trying to deal with his desperate creativity and the goons who run this country and of course his day to day existence, sorry Satyaveer you don’t have a ‘multiplex’ there so you can’t watch this until they build a multiplex for you or you are forced to migrate out to the big city with your dreams.

I liked what i saw in terms of the locations and the way it was shot. The thana, the police-wallahs, the markets, the local politics, the man with a placard, the neighbours. Of course, the rickety scooter. When did we last see something like this on screen?? and this is the same country we live in.

Chinatown parallels: The influences are visible and the film maker even inserts a film clip to be honest about it but this film is not ‘Chinatown’. This story is totally different and less complex.

Chinatown is all about it’s end, this film doesn’t go there at all, however in the process it still ends believably.

What it does is create a character like Satyaveer and a villain like the Kulbhushan Kharbanda character - both of them seem pretty real - and through them comment about their lives.

It entertains in subtle ways but it plays to the gallery with the Vinay Pathak character and why not! I remember laughing with a lot of his dialogue - the way it was written and of course performed.

Of course reviewers who are determined that only death do audience and entertainment apart, they are entitled to their own opinion but those who have a mind and like to use it and are somewhat in touch with the country they live in, might like this film for what it is and applaud the effort that’s gone into making and releasing Manorama Six Feet Under. Good job done!

Here’s the Video:

AND ON POPULAR DEMAND another video …..

Just after the Manorama Six Feet Under premiere PFC mumbai record their reaction :

Enjoy!!

    Quiz of the day.

Now why does every actor have to wear a pair of shades (Fashionable lingo - shade / Puneri lingo - Goggle) in front of the camera …

turrtle.. the paparazzi’s lights can be pretty damn bright.. half the time you’re squinting and you have no idea who you’re speaking to.. and next day the pics come out in the papers where you’re looking half asleep/drunk with an innovative tagline by the journos..

Ah … thanks for the clarification. Now, I know and can boast off my filmi-gyaan when the entire family is watching and wondering about the shades.
