Manorama - Six Feet Under : Two Trailers

We have two teaser trailers for Manorama - Six Feet Under, directed by Navdeep Singh… incidentally Navdeep is on PFC and I’m hoping will be writing pretty soon… The whole look and feel of the trailers to me is edgy, rough and straight in your face… gives the impression of a dark suspense thriller… the trailer says it’s releasing next month so we aren’t that far from getting to see this beauty which is being raved about by almost everyone who’s seen it.

Abhay Deol as usual is experimenting, nice to see Sarika coming all the way out to work in different genres Parzania, Bheja Fry and now this… Kulbhushan Kharbanda - seeing him after or long time… and of course the current favorite Vinay Pathak as the cop…

This is intriguing… very intriguing…

I’ve seen both of these just recently… talk about impact… the 15sec is good, didn’t recognize Abhay in that get up with the stache and goggles… but I really like the 30 sec spot with the supers and stills… those stills are chilling… great work whoever cut that one…

watch, I predict it right here and now both Manorama and Johnny Gaddaar will do well at the box office, and a big reason why is because the trailers create strong interest even amongst the average person…

    looks lil amateur…

Hmmm.. might be cuz its online and the issue is resolution or compression… or it might be cuz the films low budget so it could be the camera/lighting/film stock used to shoot it… either way, definately shows promise of good storytelling…

Hoping that this isn’t a thinly disguised copy of Polanski’s Chinatown….in which case we will have to continue to question the ability of indian directors to experiment with new and innovative scripts rather than pose as inept rip-off artists.

The spread is very Thick. The makers of Manorama have iNDEED followed the good-old sinful path. To reply to the previous comment, ‘Manorama - Six Feet Under’ iS a rip-off of the Robert Towne written classics Roman Polanski’s ‘Chinatown’ & its Jack Nicholson directed sequel ‘Two Jakes’. I’m not speculating the plagiarism but have actually seen ‘Manorama’ at its Osian Cinefan screening last month in Delhi & the film REEKS. Of plagiarism.
Even small details like farmers’ protest postering & Abhay Deol sporting bandaged fingers (as opposed to jack Nicholson’s bandaged nose)is lifted (Truly Remarkable!!!). There are very few departures from ‘Chinatown’, & the very few borrows from Chinatown’s sequel ‘Two Jakes’.

Find a detailed review of ‘Chinatown’ with plot & its progression here - http://www.filmsite.org/chin.html

and a good review of ‘Two Jakes’ by Roger Ebert - rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19900810/REVIEWS/8100303/1023

PFC-regular vasanbala spoke to Manorama’s Screenwriters & also its director navdeep at the aforementioned screening & got a confirmation. About the ripping-off.

    Is the rip-off inept?
    Does it matter, anymore?

i havent seen the film but from the teaser though very brief and from whatever i have read about manorma … it is very clear thta it more than just a homage to chinatown .. its like kunal kohli cliaming hum tum was a mere homage to when harry met sally ..please!!..a homage is when you do something in the same vein ..or deliberately use a device used in the film you are paying homage to in your film and acknowlege it in your film somewhere(examples of that can be character names etc) or in public interviews etc. …when you borrow half the plot or half the scenes and twist them, thats not homage.

  16. aj on August 24th, 2007 2:17 am

abhay deol sporting bandaged finger is surely what can be called paying a homage to chinatown ..only if plot points were not borrowed.

  17. gandu on August 25th, 2007 4:53 am

    when does it release?
