Mark Wahlberg – Man Who Could Be
PrintDon’t Go by the Innocent looking photo above . Marky Mark A.K.A Mark Wahlberg is the youngest of the nine children and the naughtiest of them all. He din’t exactly have Hunky Dory childhood. His early life story is nothing less than a Great Movie Story. His parents divorced in 1982. As a Teenager he used to Steal Cars, Abused Drugs, Alcohol & Got into Fights. He knocked one middle aged Vietnamese man unconscious and permanently blinded another in one Eye before he was arrested by the police. (
I am sure these people don’t watch his movies now
).
After all the havoc got ended, he entered music & started recording as Marky Mark & the Funky Bunch & earned a hit with Good Vibration which later become a Platinum Single. Mark’s cocky, street-wise persona contributed to his fame. During concert performances, he was known for being shirtless and dropping his pants.
Wahlberg is known for his Physique and cos of which was on series of Calvin Klien Underwear Ad is well
Mark’s acting debut was in the 1993 TV movie The Substitute. His big screen debut came the next year, with the Danny DeVito feature Renaissance Man. He was one of the several solider cadets in the Film. However he caught attention of the Critics in The Basket Ball Diaries as a Junky Cocaine Snorting Mickey the role really tailor made for him. The Bad Boy Image continued in the Thriller Fear in which he played a Obsessive Lover. The movie was OK but the Power & Presence of the Man in the Movie can be Felt. He earned many positive reviews after successful movies like The Perfect Storm, Boogie Nights, Three Kings.
But,
to see his potential as an Angry Stud you have to see Four Brothers. The movie about how 4 brothers revenge the death of there mother. The intensity of the man is just Amazing. He seems to draw a lot from his real life Anger, Frustration.
You just love the way he Bashes everyone who comes in his way.
You just love the way he delivers the One-Liners.
Contrary to his previous work The Italian Job was the movie which was a bit different than what he has done in the past. He was more
Calmer, Cooler, Chrasmatic in his Behavior, Style, Persona, Which was great to watch as a Fan. The Stylish Wahlberg and the Con-Man Character went Hand-In-Hand.
Though the movie that really proved his Versatility as a actor was The Invincible.
He played a Under-Dog, My God !!!!! Mark Wahlberg as an Under-Dog, there would be very few people who would have thought that he could have pulled this one off.
He was
Toned Down, Vulnerable, Scared, Not Confident, Normal, Not-Angry
None of the above emotions have I seen in Him, in his previous movies.
And the one emotion that I have very rarely felt so much for a Wahlberg Character has to be Sympathy, Don’t normally feel that way for his characters do we? But, we did in this one for sure.
Based on the story of Vince Papale, a 30-year-old bartender from South Philadelphia who overcame long odds to play for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles in 1976.
His Body-Language & Mannerism of a under-Dog who has mostly failed in his life was Commendable. You feel for him when everything around him falls apart.
Wahlberg decided to get Angry,
Study, Brutal, Ruthless, again in one of his best films Shooter.
A marksman living in exile is coaxed back into action after learning of a plot to kill the president. Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he goes on the run to track the real killer and find out who exactly set him up, and why.
Mark was superb in this one, he was once again up to the challenge for carrying the film on his broad shoulders. He has looked the Best I have seen him in terms of his Physical Appearance.
The performance has to be rated as one of his neatest. The way he performed, especially in the Scene where he gets shot and is running around to save himself is just Super-Painful you actually feel the Pain for him.
he got the nuances of a military sergeant perfectly. The display of his Intelligence, Discipline & Calmness in his performance along with the Revenge in his Eyes that was required was awesome to watch.
His next performance has resulted in the growth of his popularity just like the “Like a 12-year-old’s dick”. His Best Performance ???
“May Be
“May be I Don’t Fucking Care
Cos all I Care about is that he was nominated for the Oscar for the Best Supporting Actor. Yes People it is of course The Departed.
Wow!!!! what a Performance it was
He managed to hold his own in front of one of the greatest actors of all time Jack Nicholson.
His Lines are remembered more than the current hottest actor around Leonardo Di Caprio.
His Style & Presence was Kick-Ass in front of Matt Damon.
He was The Man in The Departed.
Every time he was not there in the movie you want him to appear. You actually wanted to see “How Fucked Up Is He”. What will he do next.
The
No Care A Damn Attitude
&
You don’t Fuck with me Body Language
Was just Perfectly carried off by this man.
Let us first Thank Martin Scorsese for having Mark for this role & then to William Monahan for writing the Best lines for him that we still remember.
Every time he used to come walking to someone we had this  Gleeful & Naughty  look on our faces, cos we knew that some one is going to get a Mouthful.
This man has been my Favorite for quite a while. One of the main reasons being that he has been an Under-Dog. He has been an Fighter.
And, to reach where he has reached from where he was is just Brilliant. Mark has proved his Talent more than once but he is hardly got the Applause & Adulation that he Should be getting. I think he is Under-Rated & UnAppreciated.
Yes, his recent movies have not done well Like The Happening & Max Payne. However, this man has it in him.
This “Man Could be a SuperStar”. He needs that One Big Hit.
Just like
Robert Downey Jnr. got “Iron Man”.
Gerard Butler got “300″
Mickey Rourke got “The Wrestler”
He will hit the Jack Pot & he will be a SuperStar that’s
Guaran”Fucking“Teed

Its good if you like his acting but personally I dont consider him to be a (very) good actor. Most of the movies I’ve seen he has that confused look on his face as if he has forgotten what the dialogue was. He was annoying as hell in ‘The Happening’ “let me concentrate” thing. He was lucky to be the lead in The Italian Job amidst Edward Norton and Jason Statham and Charlize Theron. Dunno, what happened to its sequel The Brazilion Job, its been in production for 2 years or so. Edward Norton, JS and CT have seen growth as actors and stars and even Seth Green has tasted success but where is Mark now after series of flops. I dont remember anything from Four Brothers and Shooter apart from that I’ve watched these films and Max Payne what to say the plot was too contrived and pretentious, not in an engaging way. I just lost the interest in the movie after 20 minutes. Nothing to remember. You’ve posted the picture of Shooter here. That is the look which Mark Wahlberg possess in every movie where he is holding a gun.

BTW, waiting for your Prison Break post.

Yeah Prison Break Post will be done by today. Hope U Guys Like It.

That’s the thing, Talent is nothing without Opportunity.
Frankly the strange face expressions is cos of the same characters that he keeps on playing. He doesn’t get diverse roles as some of the other actors. To be frank I don’t think he was lucky to have The Italian Job, I think the director saw the potential in him, & he din’t let him down. He managed to hold his own in Front of ED, CT & JS that’s a big thing. Brazilian Job is scheduled to release on 2011.
I guess you have seen departed that was the opportunity he got he had what 25 mins. role in that. But, my guess is that people still remembers him more that any others in that movie.
Also, some promising films are on there way with
The Lovely Bones
The Fighters
Date Night
The other Guys
Hoping for the Best

Good Post. I also feel that he is under rated. And he also needs a big hit to bring him back in the reckoning. Bad films like The Happening, Max Payne have only brought him notches down. Hope to see some great stuff like on the lines of Invincible in the future from Mark.
@Jahanpanah : Btw what is your opinion on his performance in films like Invincible, Fear , Boogie nights and Departed??
I really felt that he was the best thing in Departed. he made quiet an impression in Departed with his short but powerful role. The lines given to him were an added bonus.
loading...
Havent watched Invincible, Fear, Boogie Nights, I judged him based on what I have seen.
Departed, the whole movie didnt make any impression on me, I had watched Infernal Affairs and I didn’t find this movie (Departed) as interesting. I dont remember much from this movie which is good as it lets me to have my memory about Infernal Affairs intact. Sometimes I wonder what is a good acting, is spewing the f-words and expletives with a blatant face is called good acting?
loading...
You thought Mark had a blatant face in the departed. You don’t like him at all do you.
You have not seen his best films like Invincible, Fear, Boogie Nights.I think if you see those your outlook might change
loading...
Jahanpanah…if you watch Invincible then your opinions about him will definitely change. Wonderful movie and wonderful performance by Wahlberg. Your opinion about Wahlberg will definitely change after watching Invincible.
Also you gotta watch Fear, Boogie Nights if you wanna watch the Real wahlberg.
loading...
Don’t think i would call him as under rated. On that count, Val Kilmer, Robert Downey Jr are more under rated, 2 great actors, who have really not done as well as they should have.
loading...
don’t really think so, Robert Downey is at all Under-Rated he is getting his due now with the Kind of films he is doing.
loading...
Best line in Departed was “Who is this guy”
“I am the guy who’s doing his job. You must be the other guy”
loading...
yeah we just remember most of them from the departed don’t we.

Sanket,
I liked the way you’ve gone about crowning some of your words with the upper case, almost as if you were in love with those words. You seem to have a grammar of your own (Wren & Shetty?). This is typical PFC stuff — “This is the way I’m gonna express myself; grammar, spelling aur baaki cheezen jaaye patang udaane.”
Mind you, I’m not criticizing. Just amused.
Article mubarak ho!

@Reikes, what’s your favorite font?
loading...
I like Book Antiqua. However, I choose font depending on the context. I usually go with Times New Roman.
Wonder why you asked this question.
loading...
Thought as much.
loading...
hey glad you noticed that man. yeah, i just do that cos i want to give attention to those words.
loading...
Nice to see a post on Wahlberg. He never ceases to amaze with his wide repertoire. My last discovery was Rock Star. I continue getting amused with his roles. Boogie Nights of course was up there, along with Departed.
loading...
yeah tushar he was brilliant in The Invincible and shooter is well.
loading...
He was good in Departed, Boogie Nights. Also liked him in 3 Kings,I Heart Huckabees. But somehow remains a bit of enigma to me, has some great stuff, along with crappy stuff. Every actor, has his crappy movies, but for me the great actors are those who rise above it. I could sit through Snakes on a Plane for Samuel Jackson, and the soggy Superman Returns for Kevin Spacey, for me Mark Wahlberg does not have that kind of ability.
loading...
he is also in the league of those actors who perform if the script/director is good otherwise they are just annoying.
loading...
Yeah you’re rite, may be. but, again everything comes to the role give him the one movie where he has a good role & he will show his class as an actor
loading...
yeah and he was brilliant in the Invincible, Italian Job, shooter is well. Mark hasn’t got a role like Kevin spacey did in Usual suspects or Samuel jackson did in Pulp Fiction.
May be he would have been horrible
But I think he would have given his 100% & would have rocked.
loading...
Oh ya, I heart Huckabees was fun. You are right about that ability of actors.

under-rated??? i think every fan feels that his celebrity icon is under-rated
we may soon have posts from fans of tushar kapoor and fardeen khan saying that they are under-rated. no, i am not comparing tushar or fardeen to mark. just a projection of things to come, do not take it the wrong way. was just pointing out the casual use of term ‘under-rated’
.
mark has his own limitations. in ‘departed’ he had the intensity, but not the variation. he just kept swearing and everytime he came on-screen we knew he would swear and howl. ‘italian job’ was fast paced thriller, so nobody’s acting talents could be judged not even charlize
.
anyways, mark is a fine actor but definitley not under-rated for a guy whose memorable performances are so few. he has the energy, the expression but not the role and the director/producer
loading...
That’s rite dude, he has the expression & the energy but not the role, rite. The one reason i Think he doesn’t have the role is cos he is under-rated yaar. About limitations, everyone has limitations it depends on how you work around it na.
I agree with you that there was no variation on not just departed but most of his films but if he gets that kind of a role where he has the range & the Variation who knows man he will be the guy to look out for.
loading...
@sanket: if u do agree with me that he has energy, enthu, expression but no role and prod/dir, then you should have used the term ‘great potential’ and not under-rated. u said [if he gets that kind of a role where he has the range & the Variation who knows man he will be the guy to look out for] that means he has potential that needs to be tapped, good performance driven roles etc…
.
nice write-up though…keep it coming
loading...
He has great potential dude, i said underrated cos, even though he has proved himself with Invincible, shooter. But still directors don’t come to him with different roles. He is Always angry only in most of them yaar
. That’s wat i don’t like & call him underrated.
Hey thanks anyways.
