MEMORIES OF MOVIES

MEMORIES OF MOVIES

We all have some special memories for special days or special incidents. As we all are movie lovers, we must have some sweet or special memories associated with particular movies. In this post I am going to share some of sweet memories of films. The films and memories mentioned in post may not be great and I will not discuss their merits and demerits but whenever I read or watch about those particular movies some special memories always come in mind immediately.

DILWALA- In 1986-87 when I was 7-8 years old, one evening after whole day’s tiring job my father decided to go for a movie. As my mother was busy with some house hold work he decided to go alone. I heard the conversation and decided I would go along with him. My father lured me by giving chocolate that I would not go with him but I was firmed on my decision. When we were about to leave my younger brother came and he also wanted to join us. I and my father somehow managed to not take him with us by giving him paise for chocolate. This was the first film seen in theatre which I totally understood. The movie starred Mithun and Meenakshi sheshadri.

MARD- We children used to write “MARD” on our chests and say ”Mard ko kabhi dard nahin hota”

GUMNAAM- one night my parents went for a social function and I and my brother were alone in the home. Gumnaam was showing on cable. My brother went for sleep but I continued watching. As the film progressed, as an 11 year old kid, I was scared very much. I thought of switch off the TV, but the suspense (who is the killer?) restricted me. While watching the film, I prayed that the film complete early or my parents come home early. Anyhow I completed the film and Gumnaam became one of my favourite suspense thrillers.

LOOTERE- As my father’s job was transferable; we used to stay in different city after every 2-3 years. We kids always went to home town for vacation. Once my cousin wrote me postcard that he had shown the poster of new coming film ”Lootere” starring sunny deol and it is releasing in vacation. In vacation, I with my cousins went for Lootere. As this was first incident that we went for film without family, we bought cheapest ticket because we believed that it would be good to watch movie from front raw. As there were no seat nos. somehow, we managed to sit in first raw with Sabji wallas, chai ki dukan wallas,. We thoroughly enjoyed the movie with shouting and whisteling. When the end credit started rolling, my cousin started dancing on the song “O Lootere”.

JURASSIC PARK- Jurassic Park created lot of hype as it was first dubbed film in India. It is also special for me as it was the first full length English film which I saw. My father took us kids for the movie as it was supposed to be children film. It opened new gigantic and strange world of cinema to me. I was quite impressed by the director that he creatred scary moments without showing dianosaures in the scene while only stirring water in the glass was shown. Also I came to know what is called “Big cinema”?

MOHRA- One day when I was in tuition class, my brother went for Mohra with my uncle. When I returned home and my brother told me about Mohra, I literlly cried that I missed the movie.

HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN: On the day of New Year after Diwali in 1994, we left the home at 10 am for the 12-3 show. As we were kids and film was superhit, we did not manage to get tickets. Every time we kicked out of the ticket line as there was huge rush and dhakka mukki. We missed 3-6 show also. At last we managed to get ticket for 6-9 show. When the film ended around 9.30, and we got out of hall, my uncle and elder cousin were found outside theatre who came to search us. We got “daant” by whole family as we decided to neglect our relatives who came for new year wishes and whole family was worried as the film took around 12 hours from that day.

BANDIT QUEEN- one day when I was studying, my cousin came and told me that a film is showing in theatre which had nude scenes and slang. We both went for movie without telling anybody at home. At theatre we botherered that “kahin koi pehchaan wala na mil jaaye?”. First time I was impressed that I saw real people, real village and real incidents. I also laughed at slangs and nude scenes as I was not mature enough to digest realities. But when the movie completed I was thinking about Phoolandevi and something was hurting me. I think that was impact of the movie. When I saw movie 2nd time, I was quite impressed.

SATYA- I heard lot about this movie but didn’t watch it as I was busy with my exams. In vacation when I was wandering on my scooter, I saw poster of satya. I immediately parked scooter and rushed to hall. After watching Satya, I was consistently thinking about satya, chander, Bhiku, Amod Shukla consistently for days. That film changed my view of film watching.

SARFAROSH- It was the last day of my 4th semester engineering exam; and most of the questions were out of syllabus. I was quite tensed “Is baar to gaye kaam se!” We friends thought “Tel lene gayi exam” and went for Sarfarosh as it was the tradition to watch a movie after completion of each paper. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and after completing the movie I was totally out of tension. I was quite happy that I saw a wonderful movie.

There are many other films which have special memories but may be sometimes later…

Lol! Thanks for reminding me this one yaar. I guess Rekha was also starred in this film. I remember Mithun dancing in Madrasi Jitendra Mode.

Lootere was the first film I saw in a theatre. I saw it with my father the noon show. i still remember that day, i was only eight and i loved the movie. to top it i also saw it in some shady hall with sabji and rickshaw wallahs whistling and hooting through out speciall when pooja bedi comes out to seduce sikander- screen name of naseer in that film.

I also liked the pooja bedi song because there was only doordarshan at that time and we never had an opportunity to see such type of seducing song. There was another song featuring “Juhi Chawla- Me teri rani tu raja mera- Juhi wearing only shirt. I used to enjoy each minute of the film. Even today i can remember poster of “Lootere” I am missing that days!

I think Lootere was Dharmesh Darshan’f first movie as a director and as per my POV it was his best film till date containing all masalas of entertainment songs, action (sunny deol), comedy (chunky pandey) and skin show(pooja bedi). I can remember its title song also: “tujhe lene honge mere sang phere.. o lootere, lootere, o lootere”

Dilwala had some ready for the claps dialogues… it also had Pran returning as a villain after a long time… Smita Patil’s slap on the face dialogue to Pran just before the interval “Kuch log saamp ke dar se usay doodh pilate hain hain aur kuch log uska sar phod dete hain”… something like that and the crowd went mad… saw it like 3 times back to back days… one of those rare movies from the southern studios which was digestible because of some strong performances, good comic track and awesome (but over the top) dialogues… Now that I think of it I liked Kader Khan’s comedy best in this one and the other was the utterly forgettable if not for Kader Khan’s comedy - Aaj Ka Daur

HAHK : I remember watching it with my hockey mates and discussing it in our post game session.

Batta : nahin nahin achchi hai vai, saaf suthri parivaarik film aa.

mimtu : kee achcha dus mainu, jamaa hi moot di chagh vargi aa( tell me wut is good about it, its like froth on the piss).

I could’nt agree more with it even at that age. :d/ :d/

Dilwala is K. Bapaiyaa.. one of the all time greates with some classics under his belt.. namely maqsad, majaal, mawaali, muddat, paatal bhairavi, himmat aur mehnat and not to forget his greatest ever Diya aur Toofan (much ahead of its time.. can be placed with films like Terminator, bicentennial man…)
