anurag basu mante hain ki desh mein vikas ke saath sari cheejen teji se badhi hain.is vikas ka ek bura asar yeh hai dilon ke beech dooriyan bhi badh gayi hain.aapsi rishton mein thahrao aur gehrai nahi rah gayi hai.self interest aur aspiration itni badh gayi hai ki hum ne apne friends, wife, husband aur doston ke bare mein sochna band kar diya hai.jyada chahne aur pane ki talash bani rahti hai.film mein dharmendra ne kaha hai ki talash khatm nahi hoti, waqt khatma ho jata hai.
metro life aur culture ka sabse bada dosh yehi hai ki har aadmi jeevan ki aapadhapi mein ekangi hota ja raha hai.subah se sham aur sham se subah ke continuous struggle mein woh sukh, prem, khushi aur vishwas sab kuch kho deta hai.sukh ke chalawe mein who kahin aur bhatakta rahta hai.anurag basu ki ‘life in a …metro’ mein saare characters niji aur aapsi rishton mein nakhush hain.anurag basu ne middle class ke upwardly mobile characters hi liye hain.unki umra aur situations alag hain, lekin problems ek jaisi hai.koi bhi present rishte se khush nahi hai, sabhi ko talash hai.
film largely Mumbai jaise metro ke middle class ko lekar chalti hai.anurag basu upari aur satahi taur par hi tootte rishton ya akelepan ko dekh pate hain.sahi subject aur achchhi koshish ke bawjood anurag basu ki limitation hai ki woh characters ke inner conflicts aur outer pressures par poora dhyan nahi de paayen hain.ho sakta hai ki ise art aur serious film hone se bachane ke liye unhone simplification se kaam liya hai.lekin is wajah se characters ki taqleef humen pareshan nahi karti.
is film mein Mumbai ko ek kirdar ke taur par ;aya ja sakta tha.humen Mumbai shahar to dikhta hai, lekin film ke characters shahar se jude nazar nahi aate.aisi films mein dialougue meaningful aur to the point hone chahiye.problem hai ki idhar ki films angrezi mein sochne aur likhne ke karan dialogues bejan aur beasar ho jaate hain.woh scenes aur characters ki feelings ko kayde se nahi rakh pate.anurag ko apni films mein is par dhyan dena chahiye.
baharhaal ‘…metro’ anurag basu ki achchhi aur bhavpoorna koshish hai.is koshish mein small town ka perspective hai.stri-purush sambadho ke depiction mein anurag basu ka male attitude aur opinion jahir hota hai.saare female characters indecisive aur kamjor hain.ek nafisa ali apwad hain.aakhir auraten hi guilt ki shikar kyin hoti hain anurag?

mujhe nahi lagta hai ki metro me male attitude hai. har kirdar hi kai tarah ke confusion me ghira hai. har koi uljha hua hai. aise me kewal female characters par pinpoint nahi kar sakte.

Hey Sanjeev. Loved your dialogues. Loved the way you managed to make them sound profound n simple at the same time(guess all things which are genuinely profound are more often than not simple)

Good stuff dude. Expecting more such rockers from ya.

meri rai yeh hai ki metro ki mahilayen kamjor aur apradh bodh se grast hain.shikha aur neha ki pratikriyayen gawah hain.dono hi shoshit hoti hain aur virodh karne ke badle khud hi bisoorati hain.neha to finayl bhi pi leti hai.
aapke samvad theek hain.aur behtar hona to ek sambhavna hai.

I particularly had this post in mind when I went in for the second viewing of the movie last sunday. I didn’t feel there was a male attitude though. There were quite a few scenes and dialogues that bring out the female strength

1 – Shilpa’s reply to Kay Kay that she’s at home because of him and if she goes back to work she can find a job and make more money than him. The times she goes into self repression in front of Kay Kay is only on those times when the guilt eats her within.

2 – When Kay Kay’s lover opens the car door and runs with that smile of freedom on her face… you can clearly feel it – the joy and euphoria of breaking free.

3 – Nafisa leaving with Dharmendra in spite of the family opposition shows her strength as a woman who dares to defy her son even in old age.

4 – Konkana’s aggressive stance where she turns back and looks right into the eyes of the Radio Jockey to say “YOU ARE GAY… AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN IT…” – that to me is one of the peaks in the movie that shows the female strength of facing up to reality while the men are just victims of their own desires and selfishness.
