Mission Is? And a Trend
No Reviews to do. How many (Hindi) films were released in May? When was the last time you saw a (Hindi) movie in a theater? Next few months seem busy, though. So I shall review a promo. Or should I say, I am going to judge a movie from its first theater trailer. Mission Istanbul. Is the subject of this article. Some of the PFC authors already have classified the aforementioned movie as the Buckvaas Hindi Movie of Year 2008. What do I think?! Promos are meant to be judged. Whose right or whose wrong? Not me to decide. But I agree with them. I will give you my reasoning. I am going to dissect the promo - logically, I must add.
The film is directed by Apporva Lakhia. Who is that?! Oh, he is the guy who has given duds like Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Ek Ajnabee and Shootout At Lokhandwala. Those all film had a Bachchan. So does this one. So he has a record. Will he give an another dud? More likely. Stats are hardly wrong. He is unable to make a film without a Bachchan connection. And based on TRUE RUMORS, I will say without a hesitation that, this film is a copy!
Why is the film titled as Mission Istanbul? Apparently, the film is called Mission Istanbul, because a) their Mission Is Ta be A L**d or b) Jr. B liked Turkey so much after shooting for Guru their that he wanted a short holiday in Turkey.
In first 20 seconds of the promo is an ordinary template of an action movie from a a Deol’s action movie with Anil Sharma, that is, a few vehicles blown away. And then, in rest of the promos the actors are performing some of the KamaSutra postures with the half naked women. I don’t want to go into the detail. It is very explicit. And this will be another movie, which will be classified as a family movie and family will be dancing to this song in Boogie Woogie. India is truly a developed country!
If you don’t believe us, then watch the promo and judge it yourself.
GameShow Trend
I thought the trend of Bollywood Stars doing TV Game shows was over, but new TV Game Shows hosted by Bollywood stars are popping up from everywhere! What is with them? Do they don’t want to give any newcomer a chance or they thinking of the future because their are getting old? Also, the audience and contestant of the show are so embarrassing - none of them know how to behave in public - why are they left out of the mental asylum? Jokers have a lot of self-respect than these Big Bollywood Star TV Gameshow Hosts. They want to make from every single opportunity. If they were told to clean a gutter and I bet, they would do it. Let’s start a GameShow - which would be hosted by Big B and will have celebrity contestants and they all will be cleaning the gutter of Mumbai and the winner will get a gutter named after him and idol of him will be placed on the gutter. Gutter Ka King Kaun? SRK ya Salman ya Akshay Kumar ya ….?

mission Istanbul doesn’t even deserve a trailer review, let alone a full fledged film review, am waiting to see who are the pfc guys who actually goes on to see this film(?) and reviews it, they might be good candidates to ask for some money as am in dire need of some…..i guess that way they would prove they have a little too much of the green in their pocket…..
but then again i hope some one do writes in a review cause it would be hilarious to read. :)

HG..we should not judge the movie based on the directors previous ventures……ashutosh gowarikar made a couple of really bad movies before making lagaan…so no one should be underestimated…having said that..mission istanbul seems bad all the way ……the trailer doesn’t show anything new or different…….
Ohh crap..Mission Istanbul…another crap in Apu’s feather..
HG..we watched Shot in Bombay by Liz..it was a very good documentary from/on the sets of Shootout…the point i am making is..after you watch the docu..you feel bad for Apu at the end of it all…it was a very ironical(for the lack of a proper word) docu…
What’s up with the Bachchan bashing? Abhishek is only doing a brief special appearance in the movie. Why not mention the real stars of the movie? I guess it is easier to get attention by dropping the Bachchan name.
@ Carol..you are right…it not only is easier..it also gets traffic..see how you landed up on PFC by the mere mention of Bachchan on this article rather than tons of articles written by masters?
HG- Mission Istanbul does not star Jr.B. he has a guest appearance in the film.also, though i didn’t quite like Shootout@Lokhandwala the film was a hit at the box-office.
I know that. And I did say ‘a short holiday’. But Jo Bhi Ho. There is a Bachchan Connection.
Om, what’s Shot in Bombay all about?
@HG
Shot in Bombay..was shown at IFFLA..it was documentary..right from the sets of .” Shootout at L”..it was a brilliant docu by Liz…it showed how Bollywood functions….well..yeah..even from one movie set…about star trantrums..to stars coming late on sets…to sanjay dutt dealing with his court cases and movie career to Apu using duplicates to finish off the shoot..etc…
Om, where can i find that docu…..
Anand…no idea yaar..from wht i know it is being screened in UK…and the BBC is gonna broadcast it…but i cud be mistaken..infact..i think dabba would know more about it…saurabh dixit..one of pfc authors had recirded an incredible interview with her…
I do agree Vivek that Mission Istanbul is going to be total crap coming from Apoorva Lakhia though i should admit that Shootout at Lokhandwala was not that bad as a movie….
I agree it was purely commercialised but still it had some hard hitting moments which did try to capture the gritty reality of those invloved in that incident….
But hav to admit that Apoorva Lakhia is not capable of dishing out any good stuf which is purely evidnet from the first look of Mission Istanbul which actually looks like a bad copy of any of the other action crap that has been turned out by our so called wannabe action movie directors…
I think you are ALL, with the exception of Anand, being wayyy too hard on the film! I watch films for visuals, as much as I do for a good story. Seriously, we have all (well, except maybe for that girl “Nell” that Jodie Foster played a few years ago!) seen ALL the stories told at least once before. Isn’t there an old saying that all movies start from the same 8 basic stories?! But I truly enjoyed “Ek Ajnabee” and the fight scene in MSAMD. The former, for the depiction of Bangkok as one of the main characters in the film and the latter, for the costumes, the look and the “taste” of the Rajastani desert. “Mission Istaanbul” - as it’s actually titled, to allow for the proper Turkish pronunciation of the city’s name - will be visually stunning, as it’s already obvious from the trailers. I know I am not the popular vote, but if I want a truly original story and something intellectually stimulating, am I going to watch the next Bollywood release? I think NOT! I’ll curl up with my copy of Sir Salman Rushdie’s “The Enchantress of Florence”…
somehow i expected the guy who was an AD with ashutosh to make better films…anyways i didnt have the patience to see shootout after the starting 20 minutes and i saw the mission instaanbul trailer its really ordinary.. :/
at the moment jaane tu ya jaane na is waht im looking forward to
btw vivek agnithori plans on remaking 12 angry men…someone please try and poison him before he does so
@ Vivek - Fair enough… If you need a volunteer for the poisoning job, put my name down!
p.s. “Jaane tu ya jaane na” sounds an awful lot like “Neal ‘N Nikki” with a MUCH better cast… Sort of like N-n-N on steroids!
@Nina
Seriously ?
i never saw neal and nikki all i remember is that girl in amazingly short skirts
anyways back to the point
something n jaane tu ya jaane na touches me,or maybe i just have a very weak heart for any thing good and romantic
i sense jaane tu ya jaane na to be something like the next jab we met
then again all the material we have to see are those two trailers
@ Vivek - Fair enough. You have sold the movie to me. We’ll see if it turns out to be anything like our expectations. Though, for my more adventurous side, I am still going to be first in line to see “Mission Istaanbul”. If for nothing else, the Turkish landmarks! Oh, and the hunks…
