MY THOUGHTS ON PASSION FOR CINEMA

As PFC is going to be 1 year old soon, here are my random thoughts on PFC.

One day in March-2007, while searching on net about one of my favorite directors- Mukul S. Anand, I found a superb article by our dear OZ. The site was desitrain.com and through that site I entered in the family of passion for cinema. Continuously for a week I read lot on PFC and found that I am not only passionate about cinema but there are lots of people like me. I am not the only one who always thinks about movies, there are lot paagals or majnoos of movies like me. I wrote to OZ and asked for invitation to write and luckily there were not too many authors at that time so I got invitation and PFC became medium for me to express my thoughts about cinema which are harassing and pleasuring me all the time.

Before PFC I was living in the dream that I know lot about films but when I read talented PFC writers I landed up on earth and realized the truth “Bachche! tum kisi bhi khet ki muli nahin ho”.

Before PFC I was aware of only Hindi cinema and Monster- Rambo type English action movies. Thanks to our global movies hunters and reviewers, my list of must watch films is getting longer and longer. Now I am excited and little tensed “how could I complete this list?”

I believe that most of the PFCans are intelligent enough and it is not the thing that they can not do anything in life and can do only films. But they have passion for seeing their dreams on silver screen. Most of PFCans are not having any forefather relations with movies but they believe that they can do little better in films than their current occupation.

I did not think in dreams that I would be able to discuss about films with most talented people of film industry like Anurag Kashyap, Onir, Pavan Kaul, Sudhirji, Supern Verma, Anish Kuruwilla, Hansal Mehta, Bhavani Aiyer, D. Santosh etc. and also surprised that they are so gentle that they answer to most of the comments and I am sure that most of readers are getting benefit from their comments.

By reading blogs of No smoking, Bhram, Nishabd etc. I felt that I was on sets of those films (thanks to Smriti, manjit, rajkumar, surya, kartik and many more- who at this time might be wandering around movie sets) It was exciting to read about shoot happenings and so I learnt that it is not easy to make a film like to criticize a film and a simple shot can take lot of time.

By our south Indian friends, I came to know that there is more than Dhinchak Dhinchak dances and illogical action in south Indian films. Infact, I started to see dubbed version of these films on TV and I have to confess that some of them are better than Hindi movies. Also PFC made me interested in law budget and short films which I used to take as out of my coverage.

Here Dhramendra, Sanjeev Kumar and lot many actors are getting respect which they never got in Hindi cinema career. Here there is Oz, RK who are able to give comments longer than the original post. For technical quarries there is OZ, who gives response before Refresh key completes its procedure (OZ bhai, tum sote nahin ho kya?).

Here there is Bhavani, whose articles I can not digest in first reading, and there is author like me whose terrible mix of English and Hindi is unbearable for most of the readers. Here there are Tony, Vivek Kumar, Kartik Krishnan, Manjit who are trying to enter in cinema while there are Anurag Kashyap, Onir, Hansal Mehta, Anish Kuruwvilla and lot others who are still struggling to get their due in cinema. Also lots of guys like me who are day dreaming to enter in cinema world but confused among career, family and cinema. So at the end of the day, PFC has become mixture of all type of people having true love to all kind of cinema be it art house, masala or candy floss. It is continulusly growing.

It is not that only intelligent stuff is discussing here, sometimes we are discussing on B grade horror movies, erotic scenes, subhash k jha etc. and also enjoying and having great fun.

As we say no one is 100% perfect, so here is flip side of PFC
- The bad things written about my favorite Amitabh Bachchan- the question marks raised on his acting ability. (Personally I don’t like)
- Some commenters hurt our exclusive writers by writing comments like that they have personal reason for disgracing them. (though most of them are trolled)
- In their posts, some writers spoiled some of the talented films maker’s careers like Manoj Kumar, Subhash Ghai etc. We know they have lost their magical touch but we should consider their past work while writing anything about them.

At last one suggestion:
- There should be section or special sight for Indian films’ movie scripts like we are having for Hollywood films. At least we can have idea how to start writing by reading brilliant scripts like Omkaara, Black Friday etc.

So these are my personal views on PFC, and should not be taken personal. And on PFC’s first anniversary I wish “LONG LIVE PASSION FOR CINEMA!”

    I liked this post.

Can’t say more because right now I am putting in my first reaction. What you say has a lot of shades. It would take me time to really understand everything that you said. (I have to consciously go through a process of taking the part of my life that echoes with yours and spend some time with it.)

But nothing you said was out sync with my own feelings except one thing.

Ultimately the idea whether you are or not as big a ‘khiladi’ as others on PFC should not be a stumbling block. If everyone captures most intimate parts of their and translate it on screen, everyone can make the most beautiful films there is to see.
