Mysteries of Life Solved - Dhoop to Good Boy Bad Boy
Mysteries of Life Solved - Dhoop to Good Boy Bad Boy
One of the mysteries of my Life got solved today.
Was talking to one of the former worker of Mukta Arts. He solved the mystery for me ….
The mystery was how come the guy who made a “art” film like Dhoop got to make Good Boy Bad Boy ?
Guy = ashwini chaudhary
Art = Dhoop
Yes the same Dhoop which touched upon the death of Captain Anuj Nayyar , an army man who dies in Kargil War. In “compensation” his family gets a petrol pump. And the rest of the film the father tries to get the petrol pump - the symbol of his son’s sacrifice from the corrupt government officials.
Throw in Om Puri, Revathy and the HOT Gul Panag, and the film is an intresting watch. Based on a true story and poignantly highlighting the families of the army personnel for a change and not the usual “Hindustan Zindabad” jingoism.
The very next film by the same man was Good Boy Bad Boy. Yes the same film with the AWESOME track of the century and the anthem of the youth -
Of course when a Tanushree dutta does a character analysis of you(the back benchers) saying “You Bad …bad bad boy…” and then does an encore for the front benchers of the class …who even look at Mallika sherawats of the class as Nirupa Roy, with a soul stirring “You good good good boy”
And when Emraan Hashmi (actually Himesh Reshammiya) sings “Ek Jhappi mere yaar ki, kaleje ko thandak pahunchati” WOW !!!
With the mumbai heat sizzling up …and the ill effects of Global Warming, this shouldve been the anthem for the youth….and all cine goers should have been made to STAND for this song in the cinema halls…rather than the National Anthem (in case you don’t know..I’m talking about Jana Gana Mana here)
I guess this was the only “social message” in the film. Hug females and reduce global warming….
But I’m digressing to greener pastures.
The question so troubling me was “How could a guy who made Dhoop…make Good Boy Bad Boy ????”
So was just talking to this friend today and he said ..
“The germ of idea of Good Boy Bad Boy was set in a normal school (not college), with 8th - 10th standard students (and not college vidyarthis). Very much like Rockford”
Hmmmmm Intresting.
“But then some creative person at Mukta suggested, lets make them college students …. lets rope in Emraan hashmi, Tushar Kapoor, Tanushree Dutta…”
Ohhhhhhh hum …
So this is how the transition happened?
Of course it then goes without saying that scenes were rewritten and motivating dialogues (and social message oriented) like “Impossible also means I am Possible” were incorporated.
Emraan hashmi was given a tailor made role (he was a tailor in his free time in the film and used to take measurements of girls)….
Tushar Kapoor became the quintessential good boy next door…the sort who always thought Blue film was a film shot on blue light filters…. and that Play boy magazine was actually a Science magazine with photos of Sir Issac Newton and Madam Curie….and that “apna haath jagannath” actually refers to Fleming’s Right Hand Thumb Rule !!!
BRILLIANT…
And that’s how the filmmaker who made Dhoop, directed Good Boy Bad Boy…
Ahhhhhhhh …one of the puzzling mysteries of life….SOLVED
I can now rest in peace.

Recent Posts:

Kartik, i read somewhere that to make Dhoop; Ashwini chaudhary mortgazed his house and that passion was seen in Dhoop.
For good boy bad boy; money or majboori (control of producers) replaced passion and that was also seen in that.
When first promo came, i firmly decided not to watch it.
Hahaha- hilarious! There is no dearth of such mysteries here in Bollywood I guess… How could Mani Saab create something as hideous as Guru’s climax, for example?
sabhi phisalte hain,insan wahi hai jo uth khada hota hai aage badhne ke liye.umeed karen ki ashwini aage badhenge…chance mile to…
hahahhahahahahahha ok i hav one more puzzle how did hansal mehta made YE KYA HO RAHA HAI after a genuis work DIL PE MAT LE YAAR …………
Hug females and reduce global warming
hahaha
:)
Hugging se..garmi badhti hain na..? yeh kya?…well Good Boy!!! haha
mazaa aagaya…
@OM
I think this must be karthik’s theory for global warming
Bollywood ladies are generally “HOT” and they have radiation power which inturn makes other people hot like this our mother earth is becomming “hotter” every day..
By hugging females guys can nullify the effect…
*geek alert*
om - varun … if u had that much intelligence to listen to himesh bhai’s gyaan in the song that i have uploaded …u wouldnt have dared ask this question
Those high speed shots of “Isha ‘hanging-from-the-tree’ Sharwani” turning and giving a ‘look’ into our souls are the best part. I mean, there’s some high level thinking behind all this which is beyond a common man’s comprehension.
And yes, Himesh-Bhai is being missed sourly these days…and we have to make do with Anu malik’s comeback vehicle “Pahlaaj Nihalani ki Khushboo” (Kyun hai mujhe lagta, jaise kali hoon main…)
Though the mystery still remains Karthik. It just can’t be a case of producer-interference and Emran-Tushar-Himesh curse.
Monumental works like these can’t forgive/forget the director’s contribution or yielding or mute support or adherence. Or a (put-on) hope that it might work.
Shailesh,
dhoop wasn’t produced by Ashwini. So the story u’ve heard is false. It was produced by Parth Arora and Saket Bahal.
@Jahan Bakshi..
Maybe Mani sir has an answer to your mystery…
Mani to Shobha Warrier in an interview on Guru “It reflects the time period. India was different in its mindset soon after independence. We were little more socialist then, sacrifices were important and individual was not important. Today it is not like that, and youngsters are not ashamed of being ambitious. I think we can be ambitious. That is how we can beat the world. They call it the killer instinct. So, we have imperceptibly changed over the years, and this change is seen through one character. ”
Now,maybe you could try reading the film along these lines..the climax is naked truth..India ka sach NANGA! as Shyam Saxena would say..
What was so good about Dhoop BTW?Overtly tragic,and humdrum in its insight of the Govt. milieu
