What makes the performance even more effective perhaps is the fact that Ray makes the character so self referential for Uttam Kumar, being a huge matinee idol himself. I really liked Sharmila Tagore too.
this is amongst ray’s best undoubtedly, the citizen Kane of indian cinema. shows what even the most commercial of actors can be turned into in the hands of a maestro.
Uttam kumar had a charm about him which i dont think anyone before or after him even came close to.
An effortless performer…Nayak is the movie that made me an Uttam Kumar fan….even in his lesser movies he is effortlessly charismatic…
