Well, not quite… but close. For those who are not familiar with it, Netflix is the largest online DVD rental service in the United States, which started up in the late 90s. Has India caught on the trend? Check out Catchflix.com – India’s answer to Netflix.

According to their website….

* There is no membership fee, monthly subscription, security deposit, or any other charge.
* Shipping (delivery and pickup) is free both ways. Home or office, either is fine.
* We offer next day delivery if you order before 4:00 PM (unless the next days is a Sunday or a national holiday).
* You can also choose a Preferred Delivery Date. For example, order on a Tuesday and ask for a Friday delivery to enjoy the movies over the weekend.
* You can keep the DVDs for three days; we pick them up on the fourth day. If the fourth day is a Sunday (or a national holiday), the pickup is done on the following day.
* When you buy a Movie Pack, you can rent DVDs over a period of one year by selecting two or more DVDs at a time.
* You can pay by check to buy a Movie Pack. Just send us a check for the Pack’s price. Make the check for Catchflix Services Private Limited. Write your name, email, and phone number on the backside of the check. Mail it to our address on the Contact Us page.
* Still have questions? Read the Frequently Asked Questions to get the details or contact us at info@catchflix.com.

And even the prices seem relatively reasonable… but will the online rental craze catch on in India? And does Catchflix have the variety? That remains to be seen.

Have you complained about not having a video store near your residence? No worries. Just logon. Happy renting!

I just checked this out, and it looks a lot like the old Walmart movie service – lots of mainstream titles but very few foreign or independent films available.

I am having a bad day at work and am about to send my resume to Hyderabad.
Good to know that I can still get movies delivered if I go since I am too lazy to ever make it to a video store ;)

you know, what would be the best: AppleTv, Apple HD Display screen and (i would be happy with Hindi but world, for you lot ;) ) films on iTunes at reasonable cheap price. Apple are getting their at snail pace. And that’s Bill Gates vision as well – he has predicted DVDs will be ancient.. by what year…. i forgot

I’m seeing lots of posts about online movie rentals in India. And one thing I find missing in almost all of them. Here it is.

Moser Baer has entered home video business. They plan to sell movies at Rs 34 (for DVD) and Rs 28(for CD). They have already launched few hundred disks in southern languages and claim that they are in the process of acquiring rights for 7000 titles (almost one-third of all the movies produced in India till the date.)

Moser Baer is the real threat to all such rental services. The price point they are offering is unmatched.

hey you ever tried Moser Baer DVD? Hows the quality? Had read they were going to launch DVDs of Hindi films with price as low as Rs 48 per DVD.
Thats unbelievable but if it happens it will be revolutionary step.:)
