Nilu PhuleLegendary actor Nilu Phule has passed away. He was 80. Just a few weeks ago Anupam Kher had visited Phule to invite him on the get together for their movie Saaransh. Though Phule did work in Hindi films, it was the Marathi cinema arena that he revelled in and came to be known for his acting prowess. We at PFC offer our deepest condolences to the legend. links : imdb

    yes, Sammy, good you remembered these two films.

    …that memorable song ‘Ushakaal hota hota kaal raatra jhaali.. chala punha aayushyanchya petva mashaali’
    the journalist played by Nilubhau
    -the love story between the journalist and the sex worker
    -the scene at the end, when he looks into the eyes of a mentally deranged beggar

    and in reaction to all that has happened before in the film,
    loses his mind.

    We shall never forget that disturbing laugh, that face.

    Only got to know him in and around the movie circles following the news of his demise. In case anyone else, like me, wants to do more research on his roles, here’s a link: http://broadband.bigflix.com/bigflicks/faces/jsp/searchall.jsp?searchFilter=All&searchCrit=neelu%20phule&searchCode=All

    very good of us to carry news about the passing away of this excellent actor and warm human being known also for his understanding (and living) of socialist thought;

    but did you really want to say he ‘REVELLED’ in Marathi cinema?

    and why are we offering our condolences to Nilubhau because he’s passed away?!

    sorry to be nitpicking like this;

    but surely an obituary deserves a little more care,
    a brief pause in the rush that we call our professional lives

    to once read the words we have written, the meanings they make.

    May his soul rest in peace…but why is that dozen of other great actors like Ninu Phule are not taken care in last days and its only on death, we remember them saying some lines or words. This is the darker side…where people are running for stars who are giving them crap like kambhakt ishq and forgetting true sons of Indian cinema like Ninu Phule… But all is not lost bcoz there is still a platform like PFC where actors like Ninu Phule are worshiped…

    As a kid, I did not know the names of actors when watching serials and regional language films. His face and act as a villain with a comic flair is something I will never forget. A very very unique actor who could blend in with the roles he played with ease – made sure that the roles he did would stay in the mind of the viewer. Physically he has passed away – however his ’saaransh’ lives on. RIP

    RIP the great Nilu Phule.

    Apart from his massive output in Marathi cinema, from the good old B&W days … he was an active member of Sane Gurujis “Rashtra Seva Dal” working for common man and current social issues.
