Nine- The short that started it all

9_poster The original ShortSaw “9” the other day. Am still stunned by visual, production design of the movie, one of the very few movies about the supposed apocalypse that i really like.

Imagination takes on a new meaning with it. Its a story of nine puppets designed by a scientist to save the world from the monstrosity, that he, himself thrust upon the world.

The first eight have failed, now it is up to “9“.

It is a Shane Acker film, that pulled together two visionary giants, Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, and it is not a mean achievement. I only wish it was also done in 3D.

Here is the Oscar Nominated Short that started it all..

        Same here.
Hey SriramVenkit and everyone else. Could you please share the list of films recommended by Mr Kashyap?
Amongst his recommendations I have seen 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days & Let the right one in, and both were fantastic. I might have missed it had he not recommended it. I want to see more of his recommendations. Could you(or anyone) please share..Thanks.

Hi ANurag, if it wasnt done in 3D, then what did they use? All I know is Tom and Jerry was 2d and most animation movies were 3D. The 10 minute clip is so awesome, it looks like some kids wearing these constumes and actually performing and using SFX for the monster.

Anurag, a total of seven movies released last week, and probably another 6-7 this week. All of them small films with barely any pre-release buzz or marketing. Have you seen any of those? What are your thoughts?

    Hello Anurag Bhaiya…

Hope you are fine…. I will definately watch “9″ and post my veiws about the film soon….
    How is it all going…
You know there is something I would like to share with you… I feel really torn when I address you by calling you “bhaiya”. This two letter Hindi word has a beautiful sense of respect and that is why it is used in our hometown to address elders… Part of me feels the same sense of respect when I address you using this word… But there is another analytical part of me that constantly argues that the term, “BHAIYA” is used in Mumbai like an abuse… To quote an example, the other day I was walking by Turner road in the night when I saw an autorickshaw driver take an acute turn and the driver of the mercedes c-class, rolling behind the autorickshaw, shouted, “Bhaiya sale”. For a moment I was confused… Eventually this confusion changed in to a deep thought which was trying to decipher as to the driver of which vehicle was in perfect harmony with “ABSURDITY”-THE AUTORICKSHAW OR THE MERCEDES.

Anyways… Your Birthday is supposedly approaching… What is the plan…

    See you,
    Take care,
    Yours sincerely,
    nasoral
(PS- Just another bhaiya whom absurdity addresses
    by calling him,”Dr. Vaibhav Singh”)

  24. AXAY AXAY says:

i think the film is in 3D…the characters are in 3D, the objects around the characters are also 3D only the background is not…this is a style used to keep the focus on the characters.i think it looks great without using complete 3D…In India we think 3D animation is the ultimate thing (coz we dont hav any good 3D feature film) but there are different & innovative styles that are needed…for example ‘Waltz with Bashir’ it is a different style of rendering all together.

i loved the film it sucks u in the story to figure out what is actually happening & the Leitmotif is used intelligently…also it doesnt hav dialogues which only masters can tell stories in this way & i felt it doesnt need dialogues & that is why it works.

i hope u hav seen the last years Oscar winning animation short ‘Octopodi’ it is in 3D & is made by animation students but it’ll make or Indian filmakers to shame.

  29. Saw 9. Amazing visuals and breathtaking storyline. Thanks Anurag for the recommendation. I was plagued by the thought of Bhagwan Vishnu’s Dashavatar. Could also see images of the nine avataars in the 9 robots. The tenth creation, Kalki, brought destruction and then the 9 were resurrected to save what was to be salvaged, leaving in the end a new era of evolution.
