Ocean 13 :: Is not it feasible to cast actors from many countries in such films

Last film of the Ocean – triology is at Cannes.
The cool “Danny Ocean (George Clooney)” is back again with his gang.
Story revolving around Casino of first part is back again but now it has to be a single Casino only.
It is said that audience will be fascinated with the scenes showing inside of the casino. Tons of Swarovski crystals were used to decorate the casino. Tables were equipped with special lights.
But more than such gimmicks, the fact that Al Pacino has been included in the Ocean 13, as Willi Banks, who has to face the wrath and revenge of Ocean and his gang, generates more curiosity.
Ruthless owner of casinos of Ocean Eleven, Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) also joins hands with Ocean and his gang this time, against Willy Banks, the Casino owner who cheats Reuben Tiskoff (Elliott Gould).
Andy Garcia and Al Pacino will be seen together after God Father III, the last of the G.F triology.
No Julia Roberts and Catherine Zeta Zones this time!
Ocean’s thirteen have plans to bankrupt the new Casino owned by Willy Banks on the night of its opening only. How they will do it?
This just hits the imagination that when they have one Chinese character/actor then why not an Indian character/actor also. This was the perfect story where characters of different ethnicities could have worked.
Did not India miss this triology? This was the suitable film which could have actors from different ethnicity. Such projects can be made with actors from different countries and a truly global film can be made.
This was the concept where actors from different countries who look different from each other could have worked.
For now, we have to take things as they are. But considering globalization such international projects can be seen in future. Concept is market friendly also.

Earlier International projects were difficult to be materialised. Only Krishna Shah had Hollywood stars like Rex Harrison in his Shalimar but he was not truly Hindi film Director. Prakash Mehra wanted to make a film on Bhopal Gas accident (Union Carbide’s MIC accident) of 1984, with Amitabh Bachchan and few Hollywood actors but project could not run off because Hollywood actors did not like to be directed by a hindi film maker.
Sean Connery’s “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” contained Naseerudin Shah but neither film was good nor Naseer’s role in a strange get up. Though the length was fine but his get up hided his face and Naseer could not do his best for which he is known. Nobody can act from behind the veil and before the camera.
Few attempts have gone awry in the past but hope in future films will be made with actors from different countries and cinemaking takes a true global shape!

RK you are a Indian on a mission….. IMAGE MISSION!
We all feel the same way brother.
Its embarrasing to watch Pacino anymore with his god knows how many facelifts. Actors like him should be denied such operations. Imagine how great he would look without all this facelift. OLD MATURE & lots of CHARACTER.
He is trying to look like a pretty boy at 70.
Also I think its unfair to ask why no Indian when there is a chinese.
Watch Wes Anderson movies. He always has a Indian Character. Should the Chinese protest that why not a chinese?
I dont think when they made OCEAN’s ELEVEN they realised it would be such a massive sequels of films. But I love them. Probably the only blockbuster sequels i like. You can tell they are having a blast while making this film.
but things will change. Kal Penn has played some regular American characters already where the character had nothing to do with being Indian.
We are all waiting for Striker to strike now unles he ends up being the next RAJNIKANT!
I seriously don’t get the india on why indian actors should be in hollywood movies in the first place, there is no need to be, I feel pretty much happy seeing indian actors in style which they are good at and not try to do something which naturally does not come out of them.
Imagine sharukh khan doing the next 007 movie or John Travolta doing the next yash raj movie.
Mainak:
Friend,I am affraid you concluded in haste. Its not the point that because they have taken a chinese then they should necessarily take an Indian also. Even thats not bad either if for a second we see social structure of USA. what are the fractions of her society can represent her cinema also.
But leaving this factor, and as I wrote it just hits the imagination!!!!
Its not a complain! Its an imagination that such stories especially thrillers where you have 10-11-12-13 main characters, it can bring much fun to watch if biggies of different countries are casted together.
If you have any background of reading Om Prakash Sharma, Ved Prakash Kamboj, Ved Prakash Sharma then you would get this point of seeing together
Vijay, Jagat, jagan, Vikas, Gopali, Raghunath, blackboy Pavan (Indians), Alfanso, Singahi, Madam Princess Jackson ( belong to no country, international criminals), Bagarof (Russian), Lee(Chinese), Two comedian detectives(Pakistan, forgot their names), James Bond(U.K)etc. Any book dealing with whole team and you would then realise how big fun it would be to see people of different countries working on a project.
No I am not a brand ambassador for India and I am not on mission. You read something wrong or interpreted wrong. Words have this shortcomings that they often dont carry same meanings.
I dont think I would say that when they had two main americans in The Last Samurai and one main Japanese, then why not Indian. Neither will say this about CTHD, that Ang Lee should have followed old slogan Hindi Chini bhai bhai, as Jacky Chan did in The Myth. These are not the subjects but Ocean series has that scope to cast actors from different countries.
This imagination has nothing to do with nationalistic feelings. Cinema as an art may demand this desire and may also fulfil this desire.

Re: Al Pacino,
Not an iota of problem if he has got 2 or 12 face liftings. If he has Yayati syndrom, it does not affect me as an audience. He is in profession of acting where looks matter and if he is doing something for remaining in his profession for longer time then its his personal life.
We dont bother why Sunny, Salman etc did under go treatment to tackle their baldness.
As long as Al Pacino as an actor performs good on screen , these things are immaterial.
Rajini Kant is happy and satisfied in his looks in real life but he goes for heavy make up in films, to look younger and Al Pacino is not satisfied with his aging factor in real life also and tries to do something, both cases are fine. Its their personal growth which matter. It has nothing to do with us, the others. We dont know in their personal lives what they are facing.
This view abt Al Pacino’s face lifting factor is too opinionated.(In my opinion).
When people are still dying over Pamela Anderson’s synthetically inserted papayas and still watch her with wide eyes then it looks bit odd and hypocritical to object Al’s face lifting. And who knows its true or not
In short, it was with hope and imagination:
more fun, financially more feasible as returns can be more and enrichment of cinema as an art because of interaction of different kind of actors and cine makers.
Ash:
No harm in these things,
Dilip Kumar refused “Lawrance of Arabia” but Hollywood got Omar Sharif.
In detail I have tried to respond in Comment 3.
Its not with that nationalistic angle to insert India and Indian actors in Hollywood. But its about few international subjects where different actors belonging to different nations can be contained. Its not only Hollywood. Its about French, Iranian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc etc etc also.
History has give us proof that multistarrers often bring more vitality on screen and when it happens within a nation’s boundaries then it will be far better if it happens internationally.
RK:-
yes, including different country actors to play different parts wl certainly add to the fun factor, they do not even have to change the accents…that way it’s fun…like in the usual suspects ‘Fred Fenster’ talks with a strange accent and that’s very funny…
it wl also do good for their business worldwide with huge market in India and China if they cast so….then that can b called truely International
@RK
Well, Its not about being nationalistic, I still feel the actors style doesnot fits in with the hollowoodian notion of actors and cinema.
Its also about the economics and target of the movie, till now hollywood movies were more west viewer based, but now that the scene is changing, who knows you might see Ravi Kissen in Spideman 25 :-)
Jai:
If actors from different part of world can be part of such film then it may turn out financially beneficiary effort also.
and Ocean like Crime drama has full potential to fulfil such dreams.
Asia:
It would have been fun to see AB/Kamal Hasan/Aamir/Hritik/Irfaan
Then Jacky Chan or Mat Lee etc
Europe: Vincent Cassel/Jean Reno etc
Would not it be fun to see them also in the team of Ocean.
Ash: Who is Ravi Kissen? Sorry could not recognise this name. Any new actor?
