One of His Better Interviews
Vivek Kumar | People | February 15, 2007 at 4:25 pm
Hi Folks,
Chanced upon this interview of AB today. Congratulations to both the
actor and more importantly the media person (don’t know him) for
asking intelligent questions and getting a perspective of a man, who
in his twilight, holds back less and less. Right from the move from
corproate to creative (gives of all reasons a financial one), his
reponse to the more “serious” actors accussing him of only shaking
his hips (refer to the Naseer comment). Got to hand it over to the
guy “who has held it together despite all the fuss” for these long
years. Most folks this and that side of the Atlantic, would develop
a whole lot of mannerisms, numances, idiosynchranies, etc. But he
has kept a total ‘ 9 to 5′ and a ‘I have a job to do’ approach to
life. Again no idol worship, just admiration for a thorough
professional.
& no I think FAMILY was pathetic, but again he as a professional did
what he was supposed to do…now could someone called ARYEMAN please
quit films.

headline=Amitabh’s~shyness (type in one line)
Typical “dumb” questions asked of AB by media folks having a
negative IQ
a) If you were not Harivansh’s son, how would it have been ?- Dude
if you were born in Mars and had tentacles, would that have made you
more dumb.
b) How does it feel to be Man of the Year? – If you expect an answer
saying it “makes me very sad” please stop writing/reporting.
c) When you were being operated upon at Lilawati did you think of
COOLIE and Puneet Issar? – Clown, do you realize there is a medical
phrase called ANESTHESIA and have you been informed that you may not
make it in the next one hour, at that time, did you want Bacchan’s
autograph.
d) Do you think Abhishek is a better actor or Jaya Bachchan? – Jerk,
who qualified you to become a journalist.
e) What are your thoughts on Dharmendra and Rajesh Khanna? – Your
thoughtless question leaves me speechless!!!!!

Good job Indiatimes, good job AB, good job Mayank Shekhar, we need

Thanks vivek I had recently discovered Mayank Sekhar and he has fascinated me…But all those “politically correct” answers from AB bore me to death just as much as all those narcissist answers from SRK…No offense.
Yeah that was a good read. See, the thing to keep in mind is AB, like nay superstar, tries his absolute best to come across a certain way in interviews. He understands the audience and purpose of each interview as he does for each film. He may sound like he’s being completely sincere, but I think the only time he is totally honest or totally himself, nothing held back, no superficial modesty is when there’s no journalists or media around. When he’s at home, with his friends/family. Or maybe when he’s on set.
Thats not to say that he is being fake or superficial, but we have to understand giving an interview is part of what he does and he knows better than most on how to deliver the answers in a certain way.
And I say thank god for that, because I don’t think India needs incidents like Mel Gibson or Micheal Richards. Imagine the reactions!
On a side note, between Surya’s posts about working with the Big B on sets, and the many other stories I’ve read/heard from everyone who’s worked with him on a film set, the man is indeed an absolute professional, dedicated and hardworking. And I think only a fool would deny his versatility and talent.
I remember about 10 years back I had the chance to work fairly closely with Shahrukh (in Vancouver for Pardes) and I found him to be very real. He wasn’t trying to put out a certain impression of himself, he just was who he was. And I personally I found him to be the type of guy (as I’m sure most stars are) that if your normal with him, he’s normal with you. He was shooting the shit with us between shots. But then when some bimbette approaches him all starry eyed and in awe, you could almost see him role his eyes.
I think the common link between these two has to be that they come from modest, middleclass backgrounds, which gives them a certain down to earth quality.
Vivek, no doubt that the interview is bit different. But I am sick n tired of AB and SRK now. Is there anything new that they r talking about…its the same old thing…everything is predictable. U can guess all the answers. And if there are some uncomfortable questions, of course they would never answer it…it would be either private or not in public domain or something else.
Wondering if the humble Mr AB would reply to this kind of things…….

(read the story under the heading…Yeh Bedi ab sawant hai )
Phoenixnu:
Puja has been quite abusive towards AB after that so called interview. It was perfect mismatch given their personalities. She did not know how to interview personaility like AB. I see no wonder her glib nature produced problems.
AB’s interviews can be boring, but that does not mean anyone can do his insult on TV. Mismatch is a problem in interviews. Like Its pathetic to see this seniour journalist of Aaj Tak in programme Seedhi Bat, he has been political interviewer and now he is using his skill with film stars and it makes it a comedy show when he asks about sexy image of Priyanka Chopra.
Pooja Bedi and her sytles were not fit to interview a serious person like Amitabh. She treated him by thinking he lives on same level of frame as she she lives. Puja is good to interview people like Rakhi Savant. both can bring a juicy interview. She tried to dominate her guest on the show which is not a good sign. If her later behaviour has forced Amitabh to decide that he should not work with Puja then its not anti human. Some people may be above this nature that may work with the people with whom they have difference of opinion, Amitabh does not have that. People should give him this liberty to decide about his life what he wishes to do. Puja went to extremism and hence it brought her at this stage. Its nothing to do with who is more powerful. We can see this between Amiatbh and Shatrughan Sinha also. Afterall Shatrughan Sinha has been more powerful then him from 1998 till 2003 but once they developed differences they did not work together.
RK, ya thats ok. But I hate it when people say oh-i-am-so-humble-down-to-earth-i-am-nothing and then they play games. Looks so funny. Working together is different issue…its not that they are going to live together. Also, was it about Amitabh’s wig ? Wonder if someone will ask him about it someday. And then Amitabh will give just one look….if looks could kill, that would be it!!!
Phoenixnu:
If we believe Puja then she said she had asked about why he dyes his hairs and all the rumours about his affairs with heroines etc. She had alleged him that she was asking him juicy questions and he was giving very unromantic plane answers. As I said level of understand was very different between them. A kind of generation and cultural gap. We all have our images in our mind and if somebody goes against that image we dont like it. Amitabh too might have faced this phenomenon. But Puja’s show was not meant for him and if Star TV compelled Amitabh to appear on that show then it was wrong choice. Amitabh might have said yes because of Puja’s father Kabir Bedi but she did not understand that she is before Amitabh Bachchan. Now Simi Grewal also asked about his alleged affairs with his past heroines and he has been answering almost same questions asked by other journalists so somewhere Puja’s own conduct was responsible for the problem. and her later behaviour made it more clear.
I think Amitabh is very reserved kind of person and is open and comfortable only with his chosen people. That makes a lot of problem with others because they go with his cinematic image where they see him doing all kind of comedy and acts.
Problem stars when his cinema image is mixed with his personality and we find it very odd when he is found to say that he still does not get what to say or how to behave when enter in a unfamiliar place. We have an image of his and whenever he says which does not resemble with it, we find it hypocricy. But he has been like this only, if we go by literature available on his life and interviews of people who worked with him at any time of his life. And it seems he has a habit not to forget what he thinks was done bad to him in the past. He may not do anything against but he tries to avoid those people. Only time I found him retaliate was when he said something about Mahesh Bhatt when later had ridiculed him and Amar Singh in Zee TV’s programme in Dubai/Maleshia/Mauritius? Otherwise he maintains silence. And want him to say everything clearly as so many other film stars say.
RK, somehow I dont agree. May be true, may be not. The more I read/watch about this man…more I dislike him. He may not do anything but Amar Singh n the gang is there to take revenge for him. He is very smart strategist. Nothing wrong in that except that i dont like it…m talking as if he is bothered…ha ha ha.
