EXCLUSIVE TRAILER OF JOHNNY GADDAAR

oz   | Breaking News, Exclusive, Preview | August 2, 2007 at 1:31 am

And it’s again a first for PFC… for the first time the blogger community gets to see an exclusive first – the trailer of an eagerly awaited movie… and the honor for that goes to …

JOHNNY GADDAR

by Sriram Raghavan who made the taunt thriller… Ek Hasina Thi

The trailer’s a Whammo… this looks like a movie which will rise above, much above what I’m expecting from Sriram… the opening – how the camera zips and brakes at each character, the humming song “Hey Johnny…” playing in the background, the introduction of characters, a brief idea of what the movie “really is about” (which most film previews forget to mention these days), Dharmendra with all his suaveness, I love how Sriram lends energy to his camera, the darn fun he’s having playing with light and darkness… DAMN IT… in short : it is one hell of an exciting trailer… watch and let us know what you feel…

(oz Warning: trailer may get you addicted to push the play button again and again)

Enjoy and spread the word around!

The trailer is intriguing. Gives the film a very pulp feel. Interesting looking cast. Dharam paaji rocks! The guy playing the lead…eh…doesn’t seem very convicing. In fact I find him to be the weakest link in the trailer. Hopefully the film proves me wrong.

EK HASINAA THI was one of the top 10 movies of last ten years. It rocked. This one looks good except for the lead Neil. He looks like a Hritik clone. Or worse a Lokhandwala Gym member. Which I bet he is too :)
He just took the fizz out for me. Dharmender finally getting to kick ass. Why can’t they give a theater actor with no connections a break?
But then Anurag says he will blow our mind. I will take his word for it. MaybeAnurag has vested interest in saying that. Who knows. I’m not impressed by Neil.

=OZ, thanks for taking lead in releasing the trailer on net before it was released elsewhere. Now it can be present at some other sites also but exclusive fact that viewer’s can comment about the trailer provides specificity to its presence on PFC.
EHT was a dark film and may be thats the reason that people are expecting Johnny Gaddar also a dark film but trailer has shown good blend of comedy, stealing, some gangster moments, some intimate scenes between lovers, some timely said sharp dialogues, and these factors are able to generate curiosity abt the film. Its highly interesting to see Dharam ji doing experiment not only with his looks but with his way of saying dialogues. Though I fear with this small trailer that promising Vinay Mehta may be typed with this style only, if he does not bring bit change in his style. He has got very animated face but he is almost similar in his TV serial Vinay and Ranveer also. He is a big hope and he shd be careful abt repetition factor.
    film may establish Neil properly.
this will be clear after viewing of film only who is kamjor karhee.
Hope you get lead in releasing some more trailers in future.:)

Fortunately, in India..the marketing is still not an astronomical cost..but well it needs to be done imaginatively…also, undisputedly…Actors and Actresses spewing english on all the english channels is not good marketing..I actually scoff at that..as not even 10% of the total audience watches all this…so there..mileage…yes..that counts!!!!

Neil…welcome to PFC….loved that scene in the car….driving in the night with that smart ass grin on your face….that set the tone for JG for me….was telling someone the other day….all NOIR leading men seem so cocksure of themselves and screw-up in the end….and the acceptace to the glitch which got them in the soup is also so casual….thats what makes the genre so interesting….Here’s wishing you all the best…..

another thing i’d like to mention about bluffmaster as it is being discussed here is that it had wonderful cinematography n photography…all outdoor locations were of mumbai…doesnt the city look beautiful…Anurag Kashyap wrote that Mumbai of Life in a Metro looks more beautiful than NYC of KANK..i won’t mind saying that mumbai in bluffmaster doesn’t look any less…

100% true. Bombay hasnt looked that beautiful on screen in years. I think they shot in during monsoon as from what i remember the streets were wet. And it wasnt very bright either. It looked perfect. Do you remember the rooftop scene where the sky is orange & there is a mosque somewhere far off. I think its a heavily color corrected scene. But great nonetheless.

Neil I saw the trailor once again. I still think you are very good looking & that for some audiences can be distracting. For your next film pick up a role where you have really short hair or maybe even bald. That will get you serious work for atleast 5 years:)

So Neil do you work out in a gym in Lokhandwala? :)

Hey Mainak: Thanks for your list of top 10. you have good idea to make list of 10 bottom films.
why you do not write a full length post, what you found in those 10 top films which kept them in your merit list. and what was so bad in films included in your bottom list.

This is true that you always can provide a shock. :)

Neil,I am big fan of Ek Hasina Thi. Hopefully Johhny Gadar will be even better.Who are the music composers for the film: Vishal Shekhar or SEL. Since last year the credits mentioned VS as the music composers. Last week, I read somewhere that SEL are the music composers.

as you were suggesting to make.
Top film’s list you have given, so I supported your idea to make a list covering 10 bottom films.

Pavan, it isn’t Gaddaar. Infact I had the same question almost a year ago when I first heard of JG and had put it on my blog. Sriram somehow got to read it and commented in that it wasn’t. That Gaddaar too, was a fun movie with Vinod Khanna, Pran, Madan Chopra and half the industry villains in it at that time of the 70s.

Hi Sriram (if you’re reading this),

Ek Hasina Thi blew me away. I felt here’s one director to watch out for. And then, you just disappeared from the scene (or so I thought). But now you’re back and how! To say that the promo of Johnny G looks promising is an understatement. I think it’s the slickest Indian promo ever and I can’t wait to feast on the whole meal! As for someone commenting about similarities like the airport scheduling shot from SNATCH or the title design from SIN CITY, forget it. SNATCH wasn’t the first with such a scene. SIN CITY wasn’t the first either with a Comic Book or retro look poster. To me, Johnny G seems to be a product of passion and that’s how films should be made. Bollywood is finally waking up, thanks to people like you, Shimit Amin, Jaideep Sahni, Anurag Kashyap, and Vishal Bharadwaj.
Go ahead guys, rock the very foundation on which Bollywood has been resting!

i saw the movie and i loved it.
the movie kept me engrossed and the whole concept was great.
bollywood lacks such movies.a stylish thriller, i must say.and to top it all neil’s dance in ‘move your body’ was so great…so natural.i loved it.
i loved the direction of sriram raghaven who nails the grimy, grotty feel of a james Hadley chase novel, where everyone is either bad, greedy, villainous, plain amoral,or simply, a combination of all of the above.
neil nitin mukesh who combines seeming innocence and guile with a chilling gift of killing, makes one of the most memorable debuts.
