Oscars will now pick 10

Changes from 2010 onwards. Oscars will pick 10 nominees for the best film category instead of 5. The 16th Academy Awards in 1943 was the last one where the best film was chosen from a list of 10 nominees. According to Academy Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis “After more than six decades, the Academy is returning to some of its earlier roots, when a wider field competed for the top award of the year. The final outcome, of course, will be the same – one Best Picture winner – but the race to the finish line will feature 10, not just five, great movies from 2009.”

hmm….the sagging TRP of the oscar ceremony needed some boost though i am not sure if this will work…Star Trek and Harry Potter for the Best Picture anyone?
Not everyone is a fan of the decision:
It comes with a lot of problems, they will have to restructure the entire voting system lest a movie win with a small percentage of the vote.
