Oye Lucky Lucky Oye : The Music Video
UTV Motion Pictures | Exclusive | October 20, 2008 at 11:07 pm
Dibakar Banerjee is back. After Khosla Ka Ghosla with Oye Lucky Lucky Oye. PFC received this music video from the movie and like Dibakar’s last comic outing this one too looks like it’s gonna be one hell of a ride. News is that Paresh Rawal has a “triple” role in it, and has personally mentioned that Mumbai Meri Jaan and Oye Lucky Lucky Oye are the two movies he was proud to be working in this year. And that is quite loaded statement!
The movie releases in the US on November 26th and opening worldwide on November 28th.

Looks cool. Very much like Khosla’s title track promotional video…Good Luck to Dibaker
Looks interesting. Would like to see this one from DB..
Abhay Deol’s choice of flms are really good. I can watch a film just based on if AD is in it. It takes some time tho to get used to his expressions – seem quite bland at times here. But he was apt in MSFU…
I wish the team all the best and hope that this film carries forward the honesty and sincerity of Khosla Ka Ghosla. Kudos to UTV for backing and standing by such filmmakers.
As far as the video is concerned, it really did not make an impact on me. Too flashy, which doesn’t really allow it to stand apart from all the other promotional music videos we see for every other film out there. Performances in the video are too over the top.
The song itself sounds a little cacophonous and doesn’t quite have the infectious groove of Kailash Kher’s track from KKG. Yes, it may be unfair to compare, but hum public aise hi hai. Perhaps the song serves the film better in its storytelling than it does as a promotional tool.
A funny, dialog oriented, curiosity inducing trailer would perhaps have been a more effective promotional tool.
I quite liked the promo..quite similar to KKG..the same laid back feel to the movie…:)
I love it….
I second Vijay. A crisp dialogue based promo would have been far more effective, like it was for Bheja fry. This video says too little and barely stands out. I love the title logo though. All in all, a little lacklustre first look for a film I’m really looking forward to, from the makers of one of my favorite films, though Jaideep Sahni seems to be absent from the team this time.
More power to Dibakar! Chak De!!
loved the video, didn’t like the song; couldn’t recognize whose voice it is..is it mika? it had the kkg feel but somehow it didn’t feel right. maybe hearing it again would change my opinion…
Dibakar has this knack of getting the behaviour of the characters right. The use of typical punjabi lingo in the lyrics is so cool.
Sneha’s music is awesome!
i would say a music video always works better in creating a buzz around a film than a dialogue promo. ideally it should be a music video punctuated by dialogues and scenes from the film….me thinks
Awesome video and catchy tune. I’m really excited about the movie.
My views totally opposite to Rick. Song worked for me (though not in a big way, a la Chak De Phatte), but video doesn’t work at all. I loved Chak De Phatte’s video. Strategy wise, I would have preferred a (better) video (maybe punctuated by dialogues as Rick said) coming after a few strong dialogue promos.
Glad to see Paresh Rawal in roles like these, he owes it to himself. Speaking of Chak De Phatte, BTW, I love the song Alvida by Kailash Kher from Dasvidaniya (*ing Vinay Pathak). Another film I’m looking forward to.
good stuff! curiosity factor’s on up tick (wish i could say the same of my portfolio).
Paresh Rawal in tripple role!
Lucky Singh Luck lucka rahe hain.
waiting eagerly for this film from a promising director.
Oye lucky lucky oye….like the name n the tune…very catchy! the year belongs to UTV! hope they make shitload of money n more power to them! but why is it looking so dark…n the shorter version looks very abruptly cut. n hope dibakar lives up to the expectations.
Dibaker gettin back to his ad roots? Abhay Deol and Paresh saab means its definitely on my to watch list..loved paresh saab in MMJ..if he has mentioned OLLO as a movie he was prd to be part of..then i cant wait for it!
Just saw…. It’s gonna be good.. after all my fav Abhay Deol is acting in it..
Btw, Saw Archana too in that… I hope she doesn’t kill it.
i saw this promo on B4U music last night( why would anyone put a promo on B4u music, is beyond me), while i was trying to tune my tv set for PIX.
it was technically very bad…
just hope it was beacuse of the channel!!!
Love the title, typical Delhi sounding way of calling someone.
Look forward to seeing the movie.
i like the song, but the promo is listless. i am not a big fan of using music videos as promos. they could have just cut a humorous trailer from scenes of the film with songs playing in the background. curious to watch it nonetheless for dibakar.
i like it.. it’s catchy and has me humming. don’t need too much more from music at my end. and i honestly never thought i’d ever say this… but as an actor, i’m jealous of abhay’s filmography. he’s getting to work with every director i’ve written down in my notebook… more power to him, and will definitely give this one a watch. 1-for paresh rawal. 2-for the man who gave us KKG.
I’ve always been excited about this film. The song is quirky and fun but i hope there’s a promo with a voice-over too. I want a peek into the story…
superb !!! song is catchy
CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE
I don’t remember the last time a Musical Promo excited me so much. This is awesome. Looks sleek in a good way.
I hope we have someone to compete for these roles with Abhay soon.
Striker.
Lets bring some variety to the lead role of Indian Indie movies.
Oh Woooow!
Not fantastic, but damn nice.. I am finding Paresh Rawal to be doing something so nice after years.. Cant wait to see the film for him and Dibakar.. I love the work UTV is doing.. THey are superb!
beautiful… dilli estyle… paresh ji is rocking…
Ah, sorry.. I forgot Paresh Rawal’s MMJ. But I guess that was the only exception.
great video.. i am eager to watch another blast from Dibakar… look at the expressions of abhay when in last everybody is dancing around him.. and very well sung by mika and not to forget Pareh ji who i think again is doing great cinema..his act was beautyful in mmj.. great work..
there are two voices.. one of Mika Singh and other of… ?
Anyway, they haven’t learnt anything from Khosla Ka Ghosla promotional campaign……. however, that did sorta work. So did Welcome To Sajjanpur’s promotional campaign.
Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye. Intriguing title that it was, it was equally puzzling. I heard it and I thought let me see how they make a song out of it, in the dilli flavor.
Oye… Luckkkiii…Luckkkiii Oyye…
Anyone familiar with the Dilli jabaan(burger shargar) won’t take time to understand the intentionally twisted nuances in the song. Sung in a very interesting way by Mika(one of his better sung tracks in recent times, and involving more from him as a singer with expression), I love the title track. Waiting for more songs.
Bangali chal plate badal de oye…
Wonder who is the bangali though…
Abhay looks more at home with such videos now. He felt a little out of place in laari chhooti.
Because the song has so many things in it at one time – a catchy panjabbi track, a promo video’ video, and then so many clippings and get-ups from the film, it is understandable it can get heady to react at the first look. I saw it a couple of times, and the film clips look great. Looks like Abhay is finally biting into a full-fledged comedy outing, and who else but Paresh Rawal to give him company. Also noticed Archana Puran Singh. Hope she finally gets to do something else than the done-to-death loud punju aunty. It should be interesting how Dibakar has wrapped this one, whatwith the money-robinhood-angle.
Also, such videos are great fun after the film. Not before. As of now, I will let the ‘cracking-it’ pass and enjoy doing balle balle to the rocking track! Oyye Luckkkkeeee!
As for the film, I love the darker tones, implies a grayer mood than KKG.
more than the video, i like the song…it’s catchy, esp when the title track is sung…i like…and i love paresh rawal…thnk god for the triple roles…there’ll be more of him to see…
liked the song, is reminiscent of ‘chak de phatte’ from Khosla, and now after many of those who didn’t turn up at the theatres but saw the movie on tv and loved it, a promo similar to khosla’s would definitely work.
what’s sad though is it was almost like this movie needed a punjabi song on the lines of ‘chak de phatte’ to reach out to the masses. what can you say boss, even Rehmaan has to keep a Shanno in his album for the disc crowd.
very catchy..UTV is rocking this year..something tells me that this shall be AD’s biggest hit..UTV shall do it for him..needs it, BTW, wonderful resume he is building up..then Dev D immediately afterwards..wow!
Between an ARR and the GHAI….a Sneha comes up with a Oyeeeeeeeeeee !!!!
By now people are already humming it in the trains and busses…..well most of the times its me I guess but trust me I have that effect on people. I keep on humming it till it passes on like the ghost in the Fallen. And Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! Is bound to have that effect on all. Call it a Khosla ka Chak De Phatte sequal…it rocks none the less. Oye!! welcome ji…appna hi garage hai….!! Chalbai…ho ja shuru….
The remix seems a loop at the club scene. Never liked remixed anyways. Prefer the trakanwala geet…..dhol over techno….anyday for me
Jugni – “Jugni tap tap tap tap…..khoon bahaundi ye….” Rendered by Des Raj Lachkani
Am hooked on to this.
Tu Raja Ki Raj Dulari – Rajbir, Mahaveer Chopra – Thought this album would be an out an out Dhaba special. This came as a complete surprise. It haunts me with it’s melody. Still growing into it…..with every listening.
Superchor – Dilbahar, Akshay Verma – jugni rehendi sheeshe par…..jugni haasdi ve haasdi…..Hip Hop/Rap….very UK underground.
Hooriyan – Brijesh Shandilya, Himani Kapoor – Seems like will be a Shaadi/Sangeet hit….
Was never a Punjabi music fan….but seriously would love to plug it into my ear….stand on the foot-board…..the Dadar to Andheri train ride is fun for sure..
Just checked the music out. Its one of the best shuddh desi punju scores you would ever hear in Bollywood, spare a few Daler Mehndi, Malkit Singh, Sukhwinder numbers. This is straight out of the pind. A true blue desi soundtrack, unheard of singers rock it all the way till the end of the night.
Superchor is superbly restrained. n the punju tracks kick any recent fake punju score’s ass. eat this, pritam ji. superchor da punju rap…
johnny walker walking walking
old monk is talking talking
…oye petrol khatam ho gaya…koi gal nai. saadi gaddi te goodwill pe chalti hai..
Jugni, Hooriyan – wicked tracks.
Tu raaja ki raj dulari is another world.
Frankly I didn’t expect it to be this good. Heavily recommended.
i like the title song, superchor and tu raaja. not sure about other tracks yet…
thik hai,..
frankly speaking,.
I’m too tired of this Punjabi Punjabi thing in films
Yay for Dibakar Banerjee!! My fellow West Delhi denizen (Karol Bagh in his case New Rajinder Nagar in mine). We seem to have grown up with overlapping lives because every image in that video resonates with me.
Especially the surreal kitsch of Narendra Chanchal-esque Mata ka Jagran performers singing bhajans set to the tune of “Choli ke peechhey kya hai”.
Almost no Hindi filmmakers in recent years have treated a city so much like a character that buzzes in the background, loud, abrasive, at times introspective complex with all its warts and charm.
Vaary vaary good.
I hope this movie succeeds just for Abhay Deol. He is one guy who has not hit the marquuee, inspite of movies like “Socha Na Tha”, “Ek Chalis Ke last Local”, “Manorama 6 Feet Under” where he has given some really good performances. Also one of the most subtle actors in the movie industry.
And yeah after KKG, i am eagerly looking to this. What a delight to see Saddi Dilli, as it is, the Dilli of the middle class neighborhoods of Patel Nagar, Karol Bagh, Punjabi Bagh, Rajinder Nagar. To date i think Dibakar is one of the very few directors to have really captured the ethos of Sadi Dilli as it is.
So here is a toast to Dibakar, Abhay, Paresh and Saddi Dilli.
stupendous!
Amazing stuff!! To get it SO right (yet again) is a rare case. Hope the film does justice to the quality of the song and video.
