Pakistan ‘Welcome’ Bollywood

I have seen ‘Welcome’, in cinema, and I went to see the film on Christmas Day, last year. I did not like the film; I found it quite pathetically ridiculous. Perhaps slapstick comedies are meant to be ridiculous, but this film was clearly not a good one. There were a few good scenes and all of those good scenes were between Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor. Katrina Kaif looked hot – she is like on old school actress – cannot act – just for song, dance and sex appeal. Anyway, the film has been in news recently, because the film was officially released in Pakistan theaters a few weeks back.

Pakistan government has shown signs of softening its stance on the long-standing ban on screening of Indian films by allowing the release of latest Bollywood blockbuster Welcome in theatres on Friday.

The release of the film has come days after a Pakistan Senate standing committee on culture had recommended to the government to allow exhibition of Indian films under a proper censorship polic

It seems like the film is doing quite well in Pakistan – so far it has completed two weeks – and might continue for another few weeks. But ‘Welcome’, is quite a strange choice.. how did it get all clearance from the censor board? Or they did cut down some of the scenes? Anyone from Pakistan who has seen the film in cinema?

Awaarpan and Goal were released in Pakistan, but in single theater, i think. But, from Welcome onwards, more Bollywood films be shown in Pakistan theaters, legally.

It is good news for Bollywood. People of Pakistanis will finally be able to see their favorite stars on the Big Screen. There will be less piracy around, hopefully. So it is good news all around.

So many Indian artists did not like the fact that Pakistani artists earning fame and money in India, where as they (Indian artists) could not sell their work in Pakistan. But, I suppose, they (Indian artistss) will be slowly be allowed to sell their work in Pakisan, so will they change their stance against Pakistan artists in India? Or this is too good to be true – Pakistan will soon ban Bollywood again?

    @sunnylalany

Katrina can Act? then any hot girl can act..

And what are u talking about ‘give her time’ ..

She’s hot thats why give her time? and if she was average looking you would say she can’t act.

    Dont be so ‘looks oriented’

Namastey london she was just fine.

And anyway… hardly any scripts are Heroine/actress based..so its the Lead Actor what really matters.

pakis were always mad about hindi films , they banned the theatrical release of hindi films to protech thier “own” films , now that pak film industry is more or less dead with less than 10-15 films being made annually and most of them in punjabi , it didnt make sense to continue the ban on hindi films.

huh .. brother what world u live in .
actually islamic scholars do say that watching/making films is unislamic (basically imagery is prohibited in islam .. and films are an extension of that) .. thats why Zia , being a religious nut, fucked their film industry in his rule

    @filmi bhai,
I extend my statement for you
dont confuse between a muslim and islam.
This is not necessary a muslim understands Islam as such as its mentioned.
Zia was a dictator and he was going to harm people one way or other.
    His religion was dictatorship.

Islamic scholar says that what you are saying, like recently Dar-ul-Ulum Devband has issued a fatwa that for a islamic person doing works in films is prohibited.
Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and all the other muslim actors are going to listen this fatwa?
Even if all maulvais go to Bombay and stand outside the studios to stop them, they will continue working in films.

Though a Maulavi has said that its not necessary for people to follow such fatwas and in future Devband will take care not to issue fatwas in irrelevant areas.

One has to see whole picture.

true he was a dictator (now why paki ppl got issues with dictatorship is beyond me .. afterall their religion is just not democratically inclined anyway .. it recommends authoritarian control .. unquestioning submission) .. but do u not realize that religion was the basis of him taking those decisions ??

‘Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and all the other muslim actors are going to listen this fatwa?
Even if all maulvais go to Bombay and stand outside the studios to stop them, they will continue working in films’

u r right .. these actors wont stop working .. but spare a thought for those thousands of impressionable young minds who visit madarssas and are told watching films/listening to music is unislamic .. and this IS happening in india also (some days back there was a report in the newspaper) .. now what will u say

  20. Rk RK says:

    @Filmibhai,
Not only in Madrasas, but parents of every religion say to their kids in their childhood to keep a good distance from films as films are also kind of intoxication and once kids come in its trap, they find it difficult to concentrate on study. and then films show short cuts, all kind of lies etc and often kids take impression that life is as cool as shown in film or they get inspiration due to violence shown in films.
But kids are watching films since its inception.
Now madarsas, churches, and other organised religious institutions have to say a lot about sex also, but are people following that all things?
So many things are told to kids in childhood, are they all true. Once grown up they see world from their own eyes and see that its not possible to follow those kinds of differentiation. They search practical ways to live life with comfort. Nobody wants life full of tensions.
These preachers also have to live and their survival depends on number of people coming to them. They have to teach rotten things because they themselves dont know any other thing. This way they pretend they are holier than thou. Else their talent is less than a person involved in labour work. he can earn to eat bread but not these preachers.
Kids have to be in dillemma. On one side these preachers tell them what is islamic and whats unislamic and on the other hand they see Shahrukh Khan living with maximum possible luxury because he works in films, he is a film star.
    Conflict is there.
People avoid religious clash among same religion, hence they dont question these maulvis. Only a firebrand social reformer can do that.
Yes people with vested interest are problamatic. But on other side and on positive side we may find Irfan Pathan coming from a Maulavi family and laying in national team of cricket.
Sania Mirza, inspite of all her controversies, remain an interesting role model for youngesters ecause of her fame through the game.
These practical things, name fame, luxury etc dont allow youngesters to follow what maulavis are saying.
Maulavis are in minority. They cant stop, youngeters going to dance on boogi voogi. They have no moral power to organise a big gathering in Gandhi maidan Patna or Shivaji park Bombay, they have to preach in dark rooms of madrsas. and within a limited area even small time magician can impress its viewers. but once out of room, viewers take that as haath ki safai.
Pakistani film “Khuda ke liye” brings that clash between practicality and religious absurdness preached by maulvis in a good manner.

Religion was not the basis behind Zia taking those decisions, he tried to allure fundamentalists because of those doings. His situations were different. Due to Afganistan condition he was able to fetch good sum of dollars for his country and that might have worked for him. But what happened to him?
in Pakistan, rich class is more powerful than in India and no dictator touch them. they have houses in London and whether its dictatorship in Pakistan or democracy, it does not affect them.
Rest common people still could not solve problem of families living in pakistan since ages and those who migrated from India. Their problems are bigger and they are divided in more smaller groups. Thats a small nation but has big inside problems.
If anybody will go by Islam then one cant follow rule of anybody. So Dictatorship is unsilamic in its very nature.
One has to bow before God only. But we dont see any muslim following that. Common muslim is as opportunistic, greedy, cunning as any other religionwalla.
difference is only in claims, big talks etc.
    They will do 1000 compromises.
Then in India they have problem of pure status. 80-90% muslims are generations of people who were either forced to opt Islam or who changed their religion because they found it good to opt religion of rulers. Such conversion affect the psyche of generations forever, because one is more alert about its status.
People marriyng in different religion want a liberal atmosphere because only then their kids can grow normally. Thesy become extra sensitive towards religious matters.
Hindus dont have to feel any such thing but Budhist becomes sensitive if one says Budhism is a branch of Hinduism because Gautam Sidhartha was a hindu.
Sikh become disturbed if its said that sikhism is also part of Hindusim. because such acceptance make them like second class in contemporary times and for once common people may not have problem but religious leaders, political leaders they have to show sensitivity because thats basis for their survival.
we are living in era of survival and everybody has started beleiving in one thing.
get here and now because present moment is the only true moment. Nobody is spiritual but they have caught this motto ( though in wrong manner).
    Even terrorists live in luxury.
Those who became habitual of dollars in afgan war time in 80s, became terrorist later because their supply of dollars was stopped.
Money forces them to remain terrorist. Their power lies in weapons. They are more practical people than common mass, they have no illusion of improved situation before them. They cant do any other thing so they are continuing their terroristic missions. Now any kind of religious touch they can give to their activities.
But there are million of common people who are not following any kind of religious bigotry, and so many times they dont have so called modern literacy level. Literate people more folow the ideology.
Naxals are mostly educated but foolish people.

if those have some goodteachings with smell of our culture.like remember old dosti .what a big hit that was but do u find any vulgarity in that film . chek de india n tare zameen per are the latest eg.filmmakers should follow their culture n inspire outsiders rather than following outsiders blindly.Their attitude reflect that they r not proud of their own culture.remember a film doesnt become hit bcz of skin showing or copying a foreign hit film. The story of the film should connect n touch the heart of the audience of our country .now I m waiting for the remake of dosti.let see who remember it. i think there is no harm in showing such types of films anywhere wether it is a islamic or non islamic country
