Palm Springs 2009 : Last day and best of the fest

Four Days. Fourteen films. And I didn’t even get a chance to watch most of the films which the festival selected in its Best of the Fest Category.

Tried my best to barge into Departures (from Japan), never could make it into any of its shows. All packed and full. The movie won the Audience Choice award.

Ended the last day by watching the following movies

Waltz with Bashir

I suspect this was a documentary where the director tape recorded all his interviews and then made an animation film out of it. Not sure. But Waltz is about the Lebanon ‘67/68 problem between the two major religious segments, where Israel moved in to see the problem didn’t blow up.

The Little Traitor

A movie from Israel about a little boy who befriends a British Sergeant (Alfred Molina). Best film of the day for me.

Terribly Happy

From Denmark. A cop gets posted to a small town. And his problems begin. It has a casual pace to it, and yet doesn’t deter far from the plot and keeps you hooked throughtout.

Did you like Waltz? I have mixed feeling about it. I thought the ending was the pt he was driving to and all the other 90mins was just a way to get to the end.
