PANCHAM UNMIXED: AN UNENDING JOURNEY

Pancham UnMixed: An Unending Journey, is a film-documentary on RD Burman, by Brahmanand Singh.

It is more than a film, in fact, the film is a tribute or a Shradhanjali to the legend Rahul Dev Burman.

The film explores RD Burman’s life through his works, colleagues, family, close friends and admirers, which include personalities like: Gulzar, Asha Bhosle, Shammi Kapoor, Shakti Smant, Bhupinder, Pt. Shiv K Sharma, Pt. Hari P Chaurasia, Louis Banks, Vinod Chopra, Javed Akhtar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Shantanu Moitra, Leslie Lewis and many more. So the film should have quite few interesting and exciting anecdotes….

KCP, regular reader of PFC, was/is part of the Film, and this is what he had to say about the film, the director and experience:

The journey started when we came to know that one Mr Brahmanand Singh is starting a documentary on R D Burman. We as RDFanatics knew the craze of Pancham these days in the music world. We thought that it would be a just-another-project. But after getting in touch with Brahma and knowing his previous works and most important, getting to know his real reason behind making the film, we were amazed.

The film was made with the pure passion and dedication towards the life and times of R D Burman. The film was made to explore the real Pancham, the human being, by meeting his colleagues , friends and family members. Once we saw the vision of Brahma, we were flying in the air and dreaming about this wonderful piece of work. This film has been through the usual ups and downs in terms of finance, time, celebrity appointments, production and post production hassles. Its only due to Brahma’s perseverance that finally this fantastic tribute has come to life and we all are so excited !!

I think that Brahma, being one of the most sensitive persons that I have ever met, was the right person who could make this awesome film and offer a proper Shraddhanjali to one of the great legends of India. A delight for the fans of Panchamda, it explores the works of Panchamda through the eyes of Brahma. A DVD, when made, is surely set to make a revolution in feature-documentaries on Indian Film personalities.

And KCP has some good news to share:

PANCHAM UNMIXED is having its world premier at ArcLight Hollywood, Los Angeles on the 26th April, 6.30 pm (as part of IFFLA ‘08).

That is some good news. I wish I was in America! But, i think, KCP, Brahmanand & his team will be at the premier. And of course a few PFC authors will also be present at the festival. Anyway, don’t forget that date!

A four minute teaser of the film.

And he further adds:

After this, there are plans to screen, first in Mumbai, and later in London, Dubai, Singapore and within India, in cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Jaipur, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune etc (… any others, please suggest).

I hope the film comes to London, so I get to see the film.

PS: IFFLA Film Program 2008 scehdule.‘Vaapsi’ by Srinivas, will also be screened at the film festival.

    yeah.. let’s hope…

you know, if the film was in English, then I reckon BBC Four could have been interested in it.

Anyway, we will have to wait for the DVD.

English audience should not find a problem. People interviewed in the film have spoken both in Hindi and English. Moreover, the film carries subtitles throughout and is rich in music, which crosses language barriers.

Gaurav, I presume you were part of the film, if you guys are thinking about submitting the film to a tv channel, then try your luck with BBC…

    Contact BBC’s Programme Acquisition team:

So acquisition is for broadcasting on BBC channels . After BBC buys it, can we sell to any number of channels, anywhere in the world ?
Also just for my info, what are the chances of “selling” R D Burman’s film to them ( at a good price ofcourse ;) )

  15. Honhaar Goonda on April 2nd, 2008 4:11 am

i am not sure about that. there could be other complications as well. i will try to find out some information.

i think, the film would suit BBC Four channel.

    just shoot them an email.

Thanks Honhaar Goonda for the link. We also feel the film should find its right audience as it suits global standards in terms of cognition and quality. KCP has done some initial research on BBC and Brahma also has some insight into it. Kindly pour in more info on the procedure etc as u deem fit. You can also email on….. Cheers.
